'Survivor 13: Cook Islands' - Billy Garcia Interviews

Well, well... for someone who conserved energy instead of using it on the island, Billy Garcia (the second castoff from Cook Islands) sure has been busy on the media front.

Reality News Online had an interview <--- to read the whole interview, click on that link. A few points brought up in the interview:

Billy thought that the idea of separating the tribes by race didn't work for him although it seems to work for the show on the whole. He believes it gave a lot of folks from various minorities a shot on the show. He felt that because his music is heavy metal, a type more popular with Caucasians, that his tribemates feared he would eventually flip to side with the Raro tribe. He also claimed his strategy was indeed to conserve energy and then come to save the day when the rest of the tribe tired (I'm paraphrasing).

Billy mentioned that there was indeed a lot of food in the six days he was there -- more than all previous seasons combined. Okay, he exaggerates a bit, but it's not just the viewers thinking they have a lot of food so far. He said that Cristina thinks Ozzy is a "pompous-know-it-all-jerk." Heh. I think he got that one spot on. I think Ozzy really does know a lot, but he certainly has a chip on his shoulder.

He claims that he was "starving for attention" when Candice gave her the "We love you" bit and when he was watching the show, he saw there was really nothing to it. He said he had to laugh at himself when he saw the show.

If he had his choice, Billy would have wanted to be on a tribe composed of all of the "outsider" types - Cao-Boi, Flicka, Sekou. He called them "alternatives."

He knew before the Tribal Council that the vote would go against him. Cristina had indicated it would go down that way. That's why he went ahead and called out Ozzy and JP.

Media Fiends has a rather poorly written transcript of Billy's The Early Show appearance. But, it's better than my own as I was already on my work commute when he appeared on the show.

Billy Garcia's band (Forsakken) has its own website if you want to check that out or you're into heavy metal music.

I'm glad they have more food this season. I remember Survivor Africa and I was appalled at the lack of food and sanitation. The real challenge of this show is living in the environment you are in and dealing with any problems that come up. The preview shows some problem with a squid or octopus (I don't know the difference) coming up. Maybe that will put them off seafood :o)

I have been thinking that Billy has a point about being in the wrong tribe. I mean if they had been mixed race tribes there ARE people in the other tribes that he would have clicked with. I think Cao Boi and Roller Chick (forgot her name) to name two.

Sorry, but I think Billy is just wierd. His strategy was to be lazy and come to the rescue when everyone passed out? That's not a strategy, that's an excuse for being lazy in the first few days of the show!!

The whole premise of Survivor when it first started was to survive in the area you are dropped. How is it surviving if the producers give you food, fire and shelter?? At this rate, it's gonna be Big Brother in the jungle in another couple of seasons!! I still love the show, but it's becoming to soft core for me. The reason I always loved it was to watch the contestants figure out how to survive!!

Has anyone heard anything from PETA about the killing of the chickens? Remember when that one guy killed the wild pig and PETA went nuts!! I'm just waiting to see what they say about the chickens!!

I think Billy is strange two, but if I had to choose between Ozzy, JP and Billy, I'd take Billy. I'm not a lazy person, but Ozzy and JP are arrogant as all get out. The two girls have their hands full. I at first thought Ozzy was hot, but not any more. He's a little too big for his britches. I'm rooting for the women on this team.

The food thing has been bothering me as well....I mean the one tribe has chickens running all over,m standing next to them...the crabs are abundant...plus they all look very healthy and happy still...even made up to me. How can people look so good without makeup? Is it the lighting??

I think losing a comp on purpose is s stupid thing to do and a rotten way to get rid of a guy they don't like but may have been useful to them at some point. I hope the loss of Billy comes back to bite them in the butt.

OHHHH ORKMOM...you stole my thoughts..hehe...i was thinking the same thing when I was watching "Surviv-ER?????" :)...i was so thinking man..what happened to this show..i missed the last two seasons and was like dang...they so have it made...heck send me there. What is so Survivor-ish with all that food around..and I wondered too about Peta...maybe KFC is sponsering Survivor this year..hehe...ok..ill stop

Peace,
Melissa...

P.S. I thought Billy was a little...something...his eyes I could not trust...who knows why people go on these shows..but hey..at least his music/band got some recognition....i would like to understand the process of how they chose participants more to make someone like Billy a candidate for the show as oppposed to the million other applicants they turned down...

saw sekou in an interview,he didn't even apply to be on survivor ,he was asked to be on had only a couple days notice.
I am happy they have food and water, hated to watch when they were getting sick from hunger and thirst, some of the former survivours had lasting effects from starvation and dehydration

Hi Jackie,
Just a few thoughts to share... Yul rocks...as long as he keeps on the low down, he will win. So sorry for Johnathan missing the second part of the Immunity Idol Clue....the south island out of sight...he was so close but missed the point...no pun intended. Throwing a comp. at this point was....not a good move, it's numbers that count right now.
Love your blogs Jackie.

Hi everyone! Loved the BB7 blog, Jackie, and am now trying to keep up with The Amazing Race and Survivor. I agree with Anon 1:23. I also don't enjoy seeing contestants struggle with starvation, but I would like to see them work a little bit harder for food and water. They got flint so easily and quickly this time too. To me, part of the game is to see how they work as a team to scavenge for food, but that part's missing this season so far--between the bananas, seafood and chickens, they practically have an all-you-can-eat buffet out there! As far as Billy and his "love at first sight" comment--hilarious. How bizarre. I'll bet he's gotten some serious ribbing about that from friends and family...Kim

What does "heh" mean in computer language?

Anon at 1:39 - In computer language, I haven't a clue if it means anything. As used, it was sort of a snarky chortle.

Thank you Jackie :)

Hey Jackie!

I have a question for you and your readers...

What do y'all think about Survivors throwing comps?

Anonymous said...

Hate the throwing comps idea. It works against the tribe, not for them.

Kalifornia Kat - Unlike Big Brother, where it sometimes makes sense to throw comps, where they are in Survivor where it's supposed to be tribes, I don't think a tribe should throw one. Individuals down the line may want to throw comps to keep the heat off of them, but I think it's a wrong move within a tribe.

What is with these people who are accepted for the show and DON'T PRACTICE STARTING A FIRE WITH FLINT OR BY RUBBING STICKS TOGETHER? By now they have to know that they will need to make their own fire. Jeeze, cavemen figured out how to start a fire.
