Scary TV Newsy Bits - October 30, 2006

Bwahahahaha! Graphic artist Zoetawny made me a cool, yet scary, Halloween tag for the blog!

Let's see... what else is scary? Oh, I know! I was channel-flipping yesterday and came upon the Stephen King movie The Shining, the one with Jack Nicholson. I've seen it before, but never in Spanish! I watched the "Here's Johnny!" scene and the kid in his "redrum" mode which really doesn't translate well into Spanish. Now, that was scary!

Hi Jackie - Tell Zoe this is a great graphic!!!!! I love it! And your bwahahaa...

Am I correct that Friday Night Lights moved to tonight when it was on Tuesdays? And what happened to Studio 60, was it not on in this slot? Just asking, as you have the means, the connections, the research. Thought Top Model was on Mondays too and it was not listed tonight. I guess with early season cancellations they have a chance ot move things around.

Do you get Trick or Treaters where you live?

Looking out there at the news sources, it looks like Studio 60 is canceled. You can read up by going to Google, then Google News, then searching for Studio 60.

Friday Night Lights ain't none too healthy, either.

As for Trick or Treaters, I haven't had any here in this apartment building since I moved in here five years ago. I always buy candy I like (Reese's Peanut Butter Cups) just in case.

Thanks Jackie! LOL, I do the same thing with the candy (and buy Reeces PBC's too).

I am SHOCKED that Studio 60 is being canceled, and they said at the end of Fri Nite Lights that the are showing tonight's ep again Tues night, so I guess they are trying to get more people interested, or they indeed cancelled Studio 60 and had nothing new to put in.

Have you ever known a Neilsen household???? Why do they not give shows more than 3 eps these days before they give em the axe. Or trade the days around so the audience they DO have can't find it.

I'm sorry ot hear it, as Fri Nite Lights turned out to be much better than I thought it would be... I was hoping this meant they were lining it up in a more succesful slot, after the world watchesd Deal or No Deal and then Heroes, which seems to be a hit. Poo.

Was it Seinfeld that had zero ratings the whole first year, but they left it on and it ended up with such a successful following? or was it Cheers or Mash? Eithe way those were all from the days they didn't yank things so fast.

From what I read about the Studio 60 thing is that the stars of the show were getting huge salaries and it needed to be a huge hit to support it.

But you're right. They don't give a lot of shows a chance at all to find their audiences these days. Several shows, including Seinfeld, didn't do well their first year, but they stayed with them.

Hi Jackie,
In reference to Sydney's comment, I've been a "Nielsen Household" more than once. We had a booklet for every tv in the house and for every household member. Then, we marked down what we watched or taped and when in the booklet, and sent it back to them. This was for one month.
I imagine your booklet would be filled to capacity!
Sorry to hear about FNL. Keep up the good work.

I am sowith all of you who hate the way they move new shows around and cancel them without even giving them much of a chance. It so bugs me that they went to all the trouble to save 7th Heaven and then stick it on Sunday night opposite TAR and other network heavy hitters. If you are going to stick it in a time slot that is a sure loser, why bother to bring it back????

I didn't care for Studio 60 and FNL was on opposite something I am a fan of,so those won't bother me if they go.I am so happy that ER is doing so well this season,I've been a loyal fan of it for years and thought it was on it's way out the last couple of seasons. But it has gained new life and has John Stamos, that hottie,in what I think is his best role yet on tv.

Does anybody else watch or like Two and a Half Men??? That show makes me laugh out loud every week,I like it so much. Other than it,I think most of the sitcoms on this season are junk. I was so hoping the show with Brad Garret would be a whole lot better than it is. I loved him in "Raymond" but don't like this one.

And I am soooo over Deal/No Deal! It's a mindless game of chane, and I guess since I'm just not that lucky,it doesn't appeal to me. And I'm disappointed in 1 vs 100,the questions are so lame and I don't see anybody trying to challenge "the mob" to the end. Bummer!

Happy Halloween. I do not like scary movies, but did watch comedy vampire movie "Love at First Bite" again. So much fun. Young George Hamilton and Susan Saint James. Love it.

Not surprised that Studio 60 is cancelled. And Sharon, 7th Heaven is opposite TAR and others cause so many of you called and wrote to save it. Its "a heavy hitter" because of that.

I know I was glad 7th Heaven was to come back, but the storyline that they started this time was sooo lame that it was easy for me to abandon it and stick with TAR,which is just my favorite all time show. I would still be watching 7th if it was in it's old time slot at 8PM on Monday. But to have Eric,a minister, deceive his wife about his health and then to push this stupid story about the twins teacher putting the moves on him while Annie is away, well that doesn't sit well with me. I may catch up with it and see if they can make this all make sense when TAR is over. I know a lot of people campaigned to keep it,I was NOT one of them, because I thought the storyline and the loss of main characters were dooming the show and I am still not sure that isn't true. It had lost a lot of it's appeal for me the last couple of years and I had watched from the beginning.

SPOILER**************GILMORE GIRLS

I am also not thrilled with the new writing or direction on Gilmore Girls. Anybody else feeling that? I hated the introduction of Luke's daughter and the way he handled that whole fiasco. But then,I also always liked Christopher and hoped they might have a shot. I am surprised that Rory is so set against it,but think she is just so afraid for her Mom getting hurt by Chris again. But I think they are writing him more mature and grown up now. If he goes to Paris and falls for Sherry again,I will never forgive those writers, but I read in TV Guide, they(Lorilai & Chris) get married in Paris. Wow!

lyss - I don't think he figured anything out. I think he knows of her powers as he's the Evil Dude. What struck him is that there are others who know about her, I think.

sharon...
i too am a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan...have watched it since inception..i've always been drawn to the quick, clever writing and i feel your pain...even if i hadn't already known the the long time writers/producers had left the show, i would've been able to tell by the writing this season...the 1st couple episodes this season were almost painful to watch...i didn't feel it as much last week, but still a difference...if this is how it's going to be, i'd just as soon see them wrap everything up in a nice neat package (lor and chris get married, rori graduate and whatever..) and end the series on a good note...
at least i still have good writing on ER
