'American Idol 6' - East Coast Update - 3/14 Results Show

So far, they've announced two of the bottom three...

Brandon Rogers (not unexpected by me)
Phil Stacey (a bit of a surprise, but I'm not thrilled by him)

Remaining to choose from, we have Sanjaya Malakar and Haley Scarnato. Of course, they're dragging this out. I will return to update this once more is known. Stop back!

UPDATE: Sanjaya added to bottom three. Brandon and Sanjaya bottom two.

Brandon leaves, Sanjaya is safe.

Did I call that last night or what?

Sanjaya, Sanjaya, Sanjaya! I thought maybe if i said it 3 times he would disappear!

Did anyone else wonder who the tall girl with straight hair was? I totally didn't recognize Jordin. I like the straight look!

One more thing...who in the hell paired Kiki up with Sanjaya to sing that bit from the girl song? She would eat him alive and spit him out ;)

Darn!! It didn't work!! :(

Don't those teeny boppers know they're just making Sanjaya look even more pitiful by making him stay! Someone take those cell phones away from the 11-14 female crowd!!

I was surprised to see Sanjaya in the bottom two. That is good news!

Sanjaya is cute, but this isn't a contest of who's the cutest. He can carry a nice tune, but he's not a singer! It's not fair that someone gets booted just because someone else has a better fan base.

Not that I thought Brendon was that good, but he was certainly better than Sanjaya.

Oh well...I didn't vote, so I guess I can't complain too much.

It's not the teeny boppers, it's votefortheworst.com & howard stern fans keeping Sanjaya in. I was actually surprised he was in the bottom 2, I thought they'd have bigger numbers voting than that. Hopefully the sincere voters are taking the threat seriously and outvoting them. So close. There is still hope.

I think they got the bottom three right(Haley should have been #4),but the wrong one went home.Sanjaya is just painful to hear AND watch. He has all the sex appeal of a grapefruit. I didn't happen to agree with the judges,I thought Phil oversang his song,it hurt my throat to watch him. I liked Brandon best of the three bottoms though.

There will always be idiots whose idea of fun is to throw a monkey wrench into someone elses plans, show, life. No one who really is interested in American Idol and helping to select worthy candidates for a career in music would vote for Sanjaya. He appears to be a very nice kid but one with very little talent. Howard Stern is a 50 year old man whose idea of fun is still making prank calls. He and his fans need to grow up and stop voting for the "worst." Maybe Stern should focus on his own sinking ratings.

I feel sorry for Brandon. He's wasn't the best male singer, but was far better than Sanjaya and could have used exposure for a few more weeks to jump start a real career. Sanjaya has a lot of growing yet to do and keeping him on the show is embarrassing even to him...you could see that as he walked back to the group. He knows he is not being kept for his talent.

I find it funny that people say Sanjaya has no talent. Geez, he is 17 years old and is on American Idol. He is more talented than most Americans. Lay off the kid.

Sanjaya has potential...that's why he's on the show. The producers always like the judges to include a teen boy and a teen girl in the mix. But Sanjaya's talent is small compared to the competition and needs developing. I'm sure someday his vocals will be stronger. In the meantime he's in way over his head with the competition and to have a space for him means a better singer is let go. That's what people object to. His talent at this point would be singing in church or a school production. He seems like a very nice young man who just needs to work on his voice and delivery. This is a singing competition and Brandon had the better voice, but he doesn't have "votefortheworst" fans calling in. That is a group that works to subvert the purpose of American Idol and I wish they could somehow discount those callers.

Jackie,
Are you going to watch Dancing with the Stars? I hope so as I'd love to read your take on the weekly competition. The show is a lot of fun...and it will be interesting to see how Heather Mills is received. My guess, at first with hostility...later as she works with a prosthetic leg, gaining fans.

As a girl who lived in motown during the heighth of it's popularity, it was sad to see Diana's abysmal performance on the results show.

Some stars just don't know when to hang it up...when they should no longer perform in public. Diana Ross is one. It was sad and I put the tv on mute. Opera star Beverly Sills stopped singing at 50 because she said her voice, while still good enough, wasn't as crystalline and pure as it had been and she wanted to quit when she was still in good voice...Remember Frank Sinatra who was pitiful as well at the end. But we'll always have our memories of their good years.

Anon 4:17 -- I can't agree with you more. At the beginning of her performance she was so worried about that horrible feather contraption she had on. When she finally dropped it, it looked like Big Bird's red cousin had died on the stage.

Her singing was horrible!! If Simon were to critique her, I'm sure he would have said it sounded like she was screeching. Now, I LOVE Diana Ross and am impressed with her lengthy career, but that was just scary!

Every year, they bring back an older star who has a new album and/or tour, they mentor the contestants and theny get to plug their album/show in front of 30 million viewers. Last year it was Rod Stewart and I wasn't impressed with him either.

Ditto on Diana - she sucked! She lost me as a fan anyway years ago when she refused to pay the original Supremes a fair take on their proposed reunion tour and instead hired two unheard of replacements for less money, and then couldn't sell any tickets. She was telling the world then that money and her ego were more important to her than her fans.

Nancy - Alas, I don't watch Dancing With the Stars. I've seen it a few times and just couldn't get into it. It didn't help that Jerry Springer was on it last season. (Ew)

Hi Jackie,
Well, you can't like them all. What I enjoy about Dancing is what I enjoy about American Idol...they are live shows in real time, so not heavily edited. People have to produce and show what they can do. I think having Heather Mills on the Dancing this year will be interesting..and that cute kid Ono who is a speed skating Olympian from Seattle. Maybe check out the first night...I continue to be your faithful fan and appreciate all your postings.

Anon 7:55...could not agree with you more!! I have never been a Ross fan and the movie Dreamgirls shows a big part of why for me. She was NOT the talent of the Supremes, but when you sleep w/the boss, you get some things thrown your way that aren't deserved. She treated those two other girls shabbily and thought she was sooo great.NOT....sorry to disagree with you,Jackie and all,but can't stand her, never did and never will. She was an average singer with a big studio and studio head behind her. OK,off my soapbox now and,as always....JMO.

And to all the Sanjaya sufferers,I would not count him out next week,either....those little girls will probably save him again, though he will probably be a regular in the bottom spots. The voting system is flawed,as some pointed out. A system like DWTS would be fairer to the truly talented.

I was embarrassed for Diana Ross. She truly is not the singer she was. And singers know they aren't the same quality as they were in their younger years, so I'm surprised she agreed to do the show. On her own show she will have all the extra stuff around her to support her voice and you won't notice her inability to project like she used to. Idol couldn't do that for her. Sad!
She was promoting her tour by doing this and I think it probably hurt her rather than help her.

I compare Sanjaya's fan base (whether it's teeny-boppers or VoteForTheWorst fans) to Jerry Springer's fan base on Dancing with the Stars. They kept him on the show so many times causing a better dancer to be kicked off.

Also Emmitt Smith winning over Mario. I loved Emmitt...he was the smoothest dancer I've ever seen, but he wasn't doing the dancing in the ballroom style of sharp/distinct moves. He was just a great dancer. Yet his fan base got him the win...more people knew the football star than they knew the "kid". Not fair to Mario who could go out and be a ballroom dancer for real!

Things just don't go the way we'd like them to sometimes do they.

Sanjaya will be a great singer some day with coaching. Just not today. Let the kid be voted off so he can start his training.

sanjaya is no better or worse than a million other high school kids, but he's just not good enough to be on AI
wouldn't it be funny if he actually won, that the votefortheworst crowd voted more & more each week, & kept him in til the end ?
AI will definitley have to re think the voting system

"Vote for the worst" has been around for a few years, they kept John Stevens (the crooner), Scott Stavos, Kevin Covalis and others in for a long time past their welcome.

I like the DWTS voting method better...a percentage from the jury of professionals and a percentage from the voting public to determine who leaves. The "vote for the worst" crowd are a real pain in the neck to everybody but their childish selves. Well, we can survive Sanjaya like we survived Tweety Bird on his year...Sanjaya will eventually be shown the door...

Anonymous said...

I too think Sanjaya will be voted off in time like other not so good singers on past shows. The sad thing is a better singer will be voted off so that he stays.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Sanjaya is that good, and should be off the show. I feel sorry for Sanjaya. He has to know what is happening too, and with the "vote for the worst" that he's probably being made fun of. So now it's probably all ruined for him too, and he has to go on every week looking like a fool.

It's cruel to the performer too - kind of like "Carrie" where the mean kids vote to make someone prom queen just to make a spectacle out of her.

I've watched Idol since the first season and it seems to me that the ones we're mad about getting voted off (like Chris Daughtry) end up having awesome careers BECAUSE they got voted off. Look at Jennifer Hudson, Bo Bice, Clay Aiken & Katherine McPhee. They were able to go on to have great careers and they weren't stuck into an Idol contract. Chris Daughtry was upset after he got voted out & Idol fans were outraged, but in an interview on Ellen he said the best thing that could have happened to him was losing the show. He was able to sign his own contract, hire his own band and make his own music without Idol telling him what to do.

I don't feel sorry for the people who are leaving instead of Sanjaya. The only way he'll have a career is if he does win (because Idol will be stuck with him) and the others will have the chance to have a better career without the Idol monkey on their shoulders.

The people I truly feel sorry for are us, because we have to keep watching Sanjaya every week!

I will be watching DWTS as usual. I really want to see Heather Mills leg go flying off though. I am not happy to have her as part of the show. There are a couple each time (except for the first year when they only had 6) that I don't care for, she is one of them for me this year.

Sunjaya is terrible, but in his defense, he was voted in during auditions and voted in the top 24 by the judges. Mistake? Maybe. He will eventually be voted out just like all the other votefortheworst.com people who stayed on too long.
