'American Idol 6' - May 2 Results Show - East Coast Update

The show is starting here, Ryan is clean-shaven. I'll be updating this blog entry with events as the show airs East Coast time. Please use the American Idol label/category on this entry or the sidebar to return here.

Ryan's talking to the judges now about last night. Robin Thicke and Bon Jovi will both be on the show. Ryan and Simon have already quibbled.

Reuben Studdard is promoting the Idol Aid cause, but not singing. He's shed some weight from what little we could see.

Now they're recapping last week's Idol Gives Back special. No results yet, no Bon Jovi performance yet. Ryan was right when he said they're "stretching" this show to an hour.

Robin Thicke is performing now. I guess he's popular, but I'm just not feelin' it, dawg. Falsetto and a wannabe mustache.

A very toned-down Fantasia just plugged Idol Aid much the way Reuben did. We're into commercial now and supposedly the first goodbye will happen... when?

After the break.

The Idol Ford video commercial was sung to "Paint it Black." Thankfully better than Gina sang it.

RESULTS UPDATE - Melinda, Phil and LaKisha to join Ryan. Two week total over 135 million votes. Melinda is safe. LaKisha is safe. PHIL STACEY is leaving tonight. He's going "Down in a Blaze of Glory."

RESULTS UPDATE - Jordin is safe. Joining Phil in leaving will be either Blake or Chris. I hope it's Chris, but it hasn't been announced yet and we're in break. Ryan sat Jordin down quickly because he "messed with her enough last week."

Bon Jovi, the "guys from New Jersey," are performing now. They did "(You Want to) Make a Memory" and Jon's pleased with the contestants.

Taylor Hicks is pushing Idol Aid now. We're in break and, guess when the final result will be announced?

RESULTS UPDATE -- Chris Richardson is going home.

So, it's goodbye to both Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson tonight. Gee, I called that one. I had predicted Chris and either Phil or LaKisha.

Yay! Phil just does not do it for me at all. Now hopefully Chris will be gone tonight too! I think the others will be a strong final 4. I would like to see Blake and Melinda in the finals though.

Great to see the New Jersey boys. I have loved them since the 80's. They still got it. Can't wait to see them this summer. They are playing at Summerfest in Wisconsin. So excited!

After last night, I'm rooting for Jordin (still) and Blake.

Thank goodness the right two were removed. The show is now setting itself up for a stellar finale. Can Blake defeat Melinda or will Jordin or LaKisha sneak up on the inside and take it by a nose? Can't wait for the next thrilling episode.

I really wasn't shocked with anything that happened tonight. I kinda expected Phil and Chris to go. Next week it is gonna get real though. They all better be ready. No more "this was my week to be off". Just watched so I could see Bon Jovi perform!!:)

Phil went out in a very classy way. I don't think he ever had what it took to win & I can't stand the bald head/bushy eyebrows, but I will miss him!

Now Chris on the other hand...didn't happen soon enough for me!

Well, after all your comments last night, I could have bet my house on Blake not being the one to go tonight!

I can say it should be Kiki next week to leave. Blake should win it all. It will be close in the weeks to come. Can't wait to see who wins. Jackie you rock. I found you a couple of yrs ago when you blogged on BB with Janelle, Kaysar, and the gang (not all stars). I fell in love with your blog. Since then, I have been a fan.

Just had to share this with y'all. Too funny, but not really. The article is longer, but just copied a bit of it. Found on my local paper's site.

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. --Cable operator Comcast is investigating how hardcore pornography was broadcast during a popular cartoon program on the Disney Channel.

Customer Paul Dunleavy would also like to know. He was stunned Tuesday morning to find his 5-year-old son watching something other than "Handy Manny," a cartoon about a bilingual Latino handyman and his talking tools.

I was not surprised, and feel like we have the best of the best of the season in the final four. I did, however, shed a tear this evening, as I thought both Phil and Chris exited in the most graceful manner possible. Kudos to them for being gentlemen, and I wish both the best.

Now it gets really interesting...

No surprise tonight...Phil doesn't "show" well. Some men look great bald...it's cool, but somehow it just didn't work for him...he should have stuck to wearing hats. As for Chris, he was too much a Justin Timberlake wannabee. I think Kiki better bring her A-game next week. Ditto Jordan. The final two will probably be Blake and Melinda...I think Melinda will do fine whether she wins or not...I love her, but I think she came into this with more professional experience than Blake. I love how he has grown every week. Melinda started strong, stayed strong and will always be strong. Wish they could tie as winners...Simon, as always, was right on about Phil and Chris...should be great shows ahead.

OMG! What an awful result show. If Blake doesn't win it all, then Im done with this show. Just what we need, Lakisha winning and putting out a old and boring gospel sounding album and that goes ditto for Melinda or Jordin putting out another boring R&B or Beyonce sounding album. If that girl wasn't 17, nobody would be so ga-ga over her. The three women are all good singers, but they bore the snot of me. No Originality in the three. Blake on the other hand brings so much talent, style, performance & karisma(sic?) that if he doesn't win it will be a sad shame.

Sorry to see Phil & Chris gone. Phil was odd looking, but the guy had an awesome voice and Chris wasnt the best singer, but he was a great performer.

SORRY AMERICA, YOU GOT IT WRONG! HOPEFULLY U DONT SCREW IT UP ANYMORE.... GO BLAKE...

***Blaker girl...

i think sometimes we get caught up in who is getting voted out next, when at this point in the show, we should start thinking about who is going to win it all, & the rest are going home sooner or later

my picks to win are each person in the final 4 !! i love them all, & would like to see any of them win

what are we going to blog about when AI and survivor and amazing race are over ?? they showed previews of a new reality show about people directing - zzzzzzz

Not at all surprised with the results last night! I think the right two went home.I agree that Phil had a really good voice, but not up against the four remaining singers. And Chris was never one of my favorites, thought he was boring and predictable.

So now we are down to four. Hope they all step up their performances. At this point I will not be sorry if either Jordin or Blake win. I agree with whoever said that Melinda is a little old for the "Idol" thing to happen. But then again, you can take the position that this may be her last chance to make it big, although I think this exposure will do wonders for her career. I don't know about Kiki, she just has never moved me,I think she is a shouter and I don't dig that!Blake is very, very original and he seems very marketable. We shall see.

Taylor Hicks was no spring chicken, but then again his sales have not been the best.

Jackie, Criminal Minds was scary and riveting last night. Reminder to me take gun to the woods. IMAO

Barb -- we'll blog about Big Brother and maybe Nip Tuck or Rescue Me's new stuff .. maybe there will be a third season of Rock Star... til survivor and TAR come back in the fall... are you into any of those shows? Is anyone watching the Riches on FX?

I saw last night on the reality channel that big brother is still casting....
as for taylor hicks, he was on our morning news type program yesterday and his voice has mellowed out a bit, not so harsh and overworked sounding

I think that Blake should win because he's the most original. HOWEVER...just like with Chris Daughtry last year, it would be better for Blake to NOT win. The winner is stuck making music that the Idol producers want them to make. I saw an interview with Chris where he told everyone not to feel bad for him because he was able to make his music with his band and not be stuck doing some cookie cutter pop junk.

Blake will do much better if he looses and can get his own record deal.

I think Jordin should win because she's the most marketable and will be able to fit the Idol mold better than Kiki or Melinda.
