What's On Television Tonight?

Holiday weekends, particularly those in the late spring/summer season, are often a bit lacking. After all, the common thought is that folks will all be away traveling and enjoying the weather. But, not everyone is. Some of us have hot weather phobia or have to work. Some of us will be home. So, what's out there on the tube tonight that we may not have seen before?

CBS is all repeats of Numb3rs and 48 Hours Mystery. But NBC is airing the movie, Chicago. FOX has repeat Cops and a new America's Most Wanted. ABC has basketball. CW has baseball here. USA has its regular Law and Order listings. BET has the start of three nights of the HBO mini-series The Corner (by the same writers as Homicide: Life on the Street and The Wire). AMC is showing a John Wayne movie, The Quiet Man. The History Channel is showing the original Planet of the Apes while Bravo has Apollo 13. Comedy Central has Coming to America slated for the primetime block.

Hmmm... I'm most likely to go with The Corner as I haven't seen it before.

What will you be watching? Or, are you off to the beach?

Our local PBS station shows Lawrence Welk at 7pm followed by the Brit-coms starting at 8pm. Doctor Who starts at 11pm, if I can stay awake!! On the other hand, I may watch Cops and America's Most Wanted on Fox.

I have Little People circled for 8-9p as I always miss it on Mon eve. Celeb Fit Club at 7p on VH1. Rest will be hope to click and find. LOL

A lot of John Wayne movies as it is his 100th birthday (26 May 1907). Heard that last night somewhere, so his movies will be played on oldie channels. Just looked up the date.

Have nothing planned because I was to be away but new refrig did not work (Tues delivery) and another one delivered this am. SO no trip to DC and kids. Want to go see Pirate's but not with opening crowds. Yuck! So will just be hanging and hope phone rings to go and do anything!!!! IMAO Enjoy all who have plans!

Not going anywhere! Have a trip planned in a couple of weeks and the gas crunch is enough to keep us home this weekend. We have lots to do around the house too.

It's raining here(but we NEED it bad)so have been reading a lot(James Patterson...have any of you read the Woman's Murder Club series....I'm hooked) and I have Netflix...Word Play(about a spelling bee)and I bought "Night at the Museum" weeks ago and haven't looked at it yet!

I'd also like to get to the movies,I want to see "Pirates" bad,but like delee, not wanting to buck the crowds,so maybe will see "Spidey" or Shrek this weekend.

Have a safe, fun holiday all of you and drive carefully if you are traveling!

Susan--- Lawrence Welk! That's great. I remember seeing a million of his shows, but it would be a hoot to see them again at this age. I think the shows that still translate best are old Carol Burnett and some Sonny and Cher (for the pure kitch value if nothing more). I've seen some Laugh In reruns and they are great -- so many good memories when I see those characters.

Not going anywhere this weekend either. If I were on the East coast still I'd be tempted to head for Martha's Vineyard, but this is the one weekend I would not go, to avoid the crowds...

Delee, I AM going to join the masses in going to Pirates on it's opening weekend. Would also go to see Shrek but my finacee and his son both outvoted me (I'd rather see it first too). Other than that, I have a to-do list a mile long... would love to dust off the bike and get it in riding condition. And/or clean out the closet! Been thinking about both for months!

Sharon -- rain expected here too every day, so maybe my closet WILL get done. Have also found myself in a reading mood last few days.

Is anyone BBQing or picnicing?

Sharon-- the Woman's Club murder mysteries... if I like Sue Grafton's Alphabet series and also Agatha Christies works, would I like those? I guess just about anything could fall between those two! LOL

Wish I had the kind of life that going to the beach was actually something I would do. But what I will really be doing is watering, pruning and trying to figure out what to do with the the zillion or so cherries from our tree that we are left with after we pawn a bunch off to friends, family, neighbors, and unsuspecting strangers walking down the street. Anybody got any good recipes?

Monday we will be watching Carnavale. We never saw the series when HBO aired it in 2003/2004. Saw the first 6 episodes these past couple of weeks and HBO is airing the second set of 6 episodes starting Monday. Very period, very creepy and atmospheric. Anybody see it?

Happy weekend Jackie et al.

PS To the mystery readers: anybody like Janet Evanovich? She writes mysteries centered around a female bounty hunter in New Jersey and she injects alot of humor.

Lili, Love Janet Evanovich's characters - Stephanie Plum, Grandma Mazur, Lula and Bob the dog.

Sydney, Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone is the best. I started rereading the series this year and I'm currently on Q is for Quarry.

And I am also rereading "The Cat Who . . . " series by Lilian Jackson Braun. Great stuff.

Sydney...I think you would like the series. About a San Francisco police lieutenant,Lindsay Boxer! I started w/book 4,then went back, got the whole series(5,so far)and have been reading them ever since. Patterson is a very easy read for me,I can do a book a day if I have nothing else to do.

Lili....I LOVED Carnavale...I never had HBO but got it from Netflix and was sorry they didn't take it further than two seasons. Enjoy it!

Watched some movies that I've seen a few times before. I never get enough of Meet Joe Black. Cry my eyes out every time I see it. Love Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt.

Law and Order Special Victims Unit is another one that if nothing else is on I'll watch.

Yes Sydney...barbequeing on Monday. Seems the thing to do.

Everyone have a great holiday and stay off the roads...two fold: too expensive and too dangerous.

Well, tonight with BBQ we watched 2 movies unexpectedly-- The Hunger with David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon. Boy does everyone look young in that movie... even a 2line part with Willem Dafoe!
Followed that with The Fountain with Hugh Jackman. Long movie but kind of in the vein of What Dreams May Come. Jackman was great in it.
Like that when there is not much on the tube we compare notes on movies and books!

Ms. Jackie, I hope you are going to enjoy a long weekend free of the day job and this little respite post season finales! Well deserved!

Hi everyone!

No BBQ's or travel for me this weekend, as I will be working!

Retail + Las Vegas + Memorial Day Weekend = BUSY!!

I didn't even turn on the TV tonight until SNL, and, even then, only as background noise.

I do plan to lay low on Monday, and believe I will be doing some much needed tasks around my house! My pool needs serviced, so I won't be floating out there, although the high temps this weekend are around 98 degrees, so that would be the perfect place to be!!

Enjoy the long weekend, and stay safe!

Hi Everyone, We're having a B-Q birthday party. I just watch "The Holiday" on DVD. It's a feel good movie. Loved it. Karyn

Oh,Karen...loved "The Holiday"too. Saw it in the theater and am going to buy it now that it's out.

I had three movies from Netflix and watched two,so far. One was "Word Wars" about professional
Scrabble players. Now I love the game, but am nowhere near these people's league. There isn't much money in this, but the top players are a bunch of strange "ducks" to put it mildly. It was interesting!
And I watched "The Pajama Game" w/Doris Day and John Raitt. They were both so young and the film was hokey by today's standards, but loved the music and Bob Fosse was the choreographer,so I really enjoyed it.

Was going to BBQ,but looks like the rain is coming again(again we DO need it bad) so have a gift card fro Famous Dave's and going to get take out. Yey,no dishes to do!!!
