TV Newsy Bits - Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Jackie's TV Newsy Bits Uh-oh. Regular readers may be wondering where my On The Lot report is tonight. Oops. I got watching America's Got Talent in its entirety and recorded On The Lot. I'll have to get back to you on it. But there's something about America's Got Talent that just draws me in. Tonight was the Chicago auditions and I'm looking forward to next week in New York!

In other real TV Newsy Bits:

  • There's still no new news on the upcoming Big Brother 8 show. There are some articles out there which may interest you -- Reality TV Calendar has an All About the Competitions article and a pre-season primer, Everything You Want to Know About Big Brother.
  • Actor John Cryer of Two and a Half Men got married in Mexico over the weekend.
  • The estate of Dr. Seuss wouldn't allow ABC to use the name Sam I Am for a scheduled fall series, so it's been changed to Samantha Be Good. Of course, we all know Sam I Am from Green Eggs and Ham. No, I don't like them either, Sam I Am.
  • The third season premiere of The Closer did very well. TNT sent me this same press release, but I found it online at the Futon Critic, too.

Yikes, thunderstorms are rolling in here... gotta go!

On the Lot was not that great last night for me. Not really into it, so that may be the problem.

We had storms here last night also, not as bad as last Tues nite. TG

Deadliest Catch wrapped for now so Tues will be a real wasteland now.

The Closer was as expected... excellent! Kept you guessing right to the end and then when you thought you had it figured out...a totally different close. I love Kyra Sedgewick's character... she can do all things when it comes to her job, but personally she is a mess. (Just like some of the rest of us).

Previews for next week look to be "Veddy Inter-rest-ink" (to coin a phrase from Laugh In). Hope I'm not so old I'm the only one remembers that show! Smile.

In my Big Brother News..i pick'd up an issue of Peopel, because it was the bachelor issue, w/Matthew McCon...(i have no idea how to spell that man's name)well it gave other bachelors in there and under rich, not famous bachelors was Mike from BB1 and BB all-stars..Dr Will's buddy..now me, I don't think he's cute..and he was starting to show his age in his face on the last show..but to each there own i guess..
Last night i was watching America's got Talent (well i was trying, we have some high stung weather men here who will break in when there's a tornado with in 36541684354 miles of Okla City) so maybe tonight when Last Comic Standing is on i wont have to hear about bad weather 3 States away...

FEllow Deadliset Catch fans-- I thought of you as I watched the last ep late last night which I'd TiVo's. Amazing how much they caught this year and how much the deckhands made... most between 42-45,000 each for 2 weeks is it...maybe 3 total when you count all the prep and travel. That seems better than in the previous two seasons, where I was amazed that they battled such bitter and life threatening conditions for about half that money.

It's always cold and there can be storms that bring those insanely high waves but the Opelio season seems to be the one where there is ice in the sea and on the boat and it snows and the temps go down further... while theses guys slug away at it round the clock. If they go thru this hell for the $$ last night's numbers seemed to me to be worth it.

Wow! I thought maybe I was one of the few who watched Deadliest Catch! Even though they run reruns of the early episodes in the season, I have found it really a great filler to watch on Tuesday nights! Bummer that this season is done....anyone heard if they'll do another season?

I think they have to (sob, they better!). This is the third season and seeing how it is basically the same thing all the time, I'm amazed they got this far... but apparently it has many of us mesmerized! There's somethign about it. Everytime they pull up that pot, I am on the edge of my seat to see what they got, lol. This year they had more camera angles (what it looks like underwater in the tank as they shove crabs in, an underwater shot of the pot being hoisted up), they gave more descriptions of things -- like how you measure crabs -- and best of all, did a little coverage on the Coast Guard and their job, which was great. Plus you get to know the captains and crew more each year, and even a bit about their families. So I can't see why not a 4th season.

On "After the Catch", it sure sounded like there would be another season. Thing is it seems the same but it is different. They work hard for the $$$ and the danger is something most of us would not even dare. Makes crab legs seem cheap after you watch the show.

Jackie, I just read next weeks TV guide regarding Big Brother. Showtime ShoToo station will be broadcasting live the feeds after midnight when the houseguests should be in bed. But I was thinking you can tape it and watch and fastforward to see if there is anything to report.

Thanks for all that you do.
