'Hell's Kitchen' - A Quick Take on Episode 6

Hell's Kitchen
Why did Ramsay keep Melissa last week? It's not like the men are so great on their own, but I knew she would surely make them worse.

The challenge saw a win for the Red Team, but I can't help but wonder if this one was just a tad tainted.

After all, the prize was a photo shoot with Ramsay. It seems that the women always seem to win that prize. I wonder if they could have gotten by with serving a walking live lobster. Rock didn't take too well to their rather suspicious win either. Ah, but he had to see the girls in their glory and had to go through their trash as punishment.

When it came to the dinner service, the guys crumbled while the girls got the job done. With the exception of Bonnie not knowing what to do with a kitchen fire in a pan -- don't walk around with the pan -- and Julie letting the pressure getting to her and crying, the Red Team did a fairly remarkable job throughout the service.

Then there was the Blue Team, the Men Plus Melissa. They were horrible. Everything Melissa touches, she curses. Josh and Brad had their worst services to date and Rock just watched it all happen. He didn't do poorly, but he couldn't save the sinking ship.

In the end, after six dinners from the Blue Team were sent back, Ramsay shut the kitchen down and ordered the Blue Team to come up with two nominees. Melissa knew she would be one on the block no matter what (deservedly so). Then it was between Josh and Brad. Brad said it was his personal worst night while Josh has continued to not perform well on the whole.

Ramsay didn't give them a chance to even tell who they nominated. He called Melissa up, took her jacket, then had her whisked away. Then, in a move to make us think he was getting rid of both Josh and Brad, he reamed them... and sent them back to line with Rock.

So this leaves us with Julia, Bonnie, and Jen on the Red Team. I still hold my grudge against Jen for trying to use pasta from the trash can, but she's most likely the most capable in the long run. While I think a lot of Julia, I'm not sure if she's ready for the responsibilities which come with the win. It's getting to the point where Waffle House might limit her. Bonnie is out of her league and I don't see her lasting much longer.

Of the men left -- Rock, Josh, and Brad -- only Rock has any possibilities. Josh and Brad could go before any of the remaining women and it wouldn't ruffle my feathers.

I think we'll see it down to Rock and Jen as the final two. But I could be wrong. I'm still not impressed with any of the chef wannabes this season.

I totally agree. Rock was so right...Blue should have one (Go blue...hahahaha....BB8 shout out!)

The girls were gonna win this challenge because who would he want pics with? The girls!

However, this doesn't excuse their service in the dining room. It was awful!

I agree. Save Rock...get rid of all the other Blue team.

I agree with you aybodybutjanellehillaryjen... but I have to admit that if I was the one who decided who was going and who was staying, and I saw Rock's tirade, I'd have to second guess whether he should have a kitchen of his own ... I must say that was a cheap shot to send him to pick up their trash over at the shoot...just plain mean.

In the comment before this one, a spoiler was revealed. I had already posted a link to that for folks who want the spoilers, but try to keep them out of the show entries.

But what Martha said was in line with what I've heard. She also said: "All the contestants are terrible. Ramsey's act is getting old. Top Chef is better."

My apologies to Martha for the removal.

Poor taste to remove my comment. I'm only reporting what I read. It's not like it's a state secret for heaven sakes!

Poor taste? I explained there are no spoilers in the show recap entries. I reposted everything except the spoiler. Some folks don't know spoilers, nor do they expect them here. If the comment stays, I get more folks upset with me for keeping it.

It's possible that you didn't realize that, but that's what happens. Your reaction is a bit much if you consider the explanation behind the removal. I'm not angry with you, but I also don't want others angry with me for leaving it here.

I thought the girls did extremely well tonight. I actually didn't get anxiety waiting on Gordon to yell "Shut 'em off!!!"

I agree that Rock and Jen are the only two that possibly have a chance to win this season. Bonnie and Julia just aren't experienced enough, nor is Josh. Brad's ego gets in his way. And that was a lousy thing to send Rock to the photo shoot for no other reason than to embarass him.

Actually I think it is a sign of superior leadership skills that a team consisting of A Waffle House cook, a bimbo nanny and a pastry chef (albeit one who worked for Iron Chef Morimoto-sama at his Philadelphia restaurant) beats a team consisting of three (supposedly) skilled chefs and Melissa.

I wanted to know what was up with Melissa's chin. Her zit (I'm supposing) was so bad, it gave me the impression that she was sporting a "soul patch" like she was one of the boys (or something to that effect)! :)

I was shocked when the women won the 1st challenge. But I guess for a makeover the guys had no hair and they hopefully do not wear make-up.

This year is a disappointment, even at ths date I see no Exec chef jump out and lead. Same thing is happening on The Next Food Network Star. Top Chef has a better group of cooks.

Rock's temper is not something I care to watch or have going on in a real kitchen. At least we know that Chef Ramsey does it for TV, mostly.

Brent I liked when that was said..a nanny, short-order cook and a pastry chef, beat the chefs!!!

Nancy B - I know I wondered what that was on Melissa's face, but later it was not there.

I agree -- there isn't much competition. How can Jen win after they showed her taking food out of the trash? Would anyone go to the restaurant she worked at? The only one who can possible win is Rock.

There is more than cooking skills to be considered when choosing a chef.

Leadership, working under pressure, the big C "consistency", being able to follow directions, ability to retain information. Respect and love of food and the kitchen. Making sure the guests get what they ordered and so much more.

There is but one of these so called chefs that would ever be allowed to work in my restaurant and that person is Julia.

I saw her burning desire to succeed from day one.

Go Julia!

Julia really could run a restaraunt if she only knew the culinary arts!! She would definitely be a perfect contender in this contest if she knew how it really was in the top restaurants. I've been to Waffle House (like I'm sure most of you have) before and I can tell you it's not easy what those cooks have to do on a day-to-day basis. Taking orders and making the customers happy was really what she did, mostly because she was used to it. She also really got comeupance with proposing the steak for the main course. Good going Jules and keep your head up!!
