'Survivor 15: China' - East Coast Updates 12/06

The show has started here on the East Coast. I'll update this post with important events (immunity, boot, etc.) as it airs. So, please refresh the page for the latest and definitely let me know what you think of the episode!

My full review is posted over on TV Squad.

Family members are being teamed up with them for the Rewards Challenge. Denise and her husband Robert won Reward -- a boat trip, meal, and phone call. Denise had to pick two others to go with them -- Todd and his sister, Amanda and her sister. The family members of the chosen will spend the night. The family members of those not on Reward go home immediately.

Peih-Gee win Immunity.

Not a shock ... Erik was voted out.

Yay! Denise won the reward challenge! Peigh-Gee looked so disappointed when she wasn't chosen to go along.

Hating Courtney right now...

FDO you think she should have picked Pee Ghee for going on the challenge? I guess so since she took Denise to the temple, Which was a once in a lifetime dream come true. I don't like Peigh-Gee's attitude on the whole, but I think she was right to be bitter on this one. That may come back to haunt Denise.

Man, this episode is a real tear-jerker. The family's re-uning and Denise's phone call.

That B***h, Courtney, saying Todd's sister's news about the miscarriage was a "Jonny Fairplay" move. That is one heartless biotch!

And P.G.'s sour grapes about Denise not picking her to share the reward. The only reason PG picked Denise for hers was for strategic reasons. Why shouldn't Denise have the same option?

Doesn't it seem that this immunity challenge is again geared towards PG's knowledge of China?

I'm seriously starting to wonder about some of these challenges. PG wins again.

I think Denise voted wrong but with a tie it would have been a toss up.

I think now was the time for Denise to flip. You have to put your neck out sometime or your never going to get anywhere.

Unfortunately, I have my doubts Denise will make it to the end either way.
I don't think Todd or Amanda would take her to F3 because she is well-liked and hasn't really screwed over anyone.
PG and Erik wouldn't have either for the same reasons.

Joy N, I agree with you about Denise. I don't think she'll make it to the end because they don't think they could win against her.

Sydney, Peigh-Gee thought Denise would or should have picked her to return the favor of being picked for her reward. I'm glad Denise picked who she wanted and did not pick Peigh-Gee! I don't like Peigh-Gee's attitude either!

Joy -- I think the whole show is geared towards showing China off, which is probably the only reason why they were allowed to do it... Though they of course play on the culture of every location of Survivor, it's a pivotal time for China with the Olympics coming up and all... however, it has been a bit dicey since because of this, Peigh-Gee definitely has knowledge that gives her the advantage, not just here or there, but in so many challenges. And for that very reason I wish she'd get the big chip off her shoulder!

I enjoyed this episode! I loved that Denise won the family reward challenge... go Denise! Courtney once again displayed the bitchiness that makes her Courtney, and I loved watching Todd "nervousing" (ala BB) a little bit. It was great.

I honestly thought Denise was going to flip tonight with PG and Erik. Would it have been smart to do so though? I think she would end up in the same bottom four either way, also as others pointed out. She also had that betray the group and guilt thing to think of.

I personally think that John Robert and James dislike Todd and Amanda enough that they could convince the others to vote for Denise in a final 3. I also think that they dislike PG enough to outweigh Jaime, Frosty and Erik if he made the jury. But who knows... it is what it is and we are stuck with a more likely than not final 3 of Courtney, Amanda and Todd. I'm hoping Amanda wins but it looks like it will be Todd. :(

Yeah,I kind of agree with Monty,I think the last three will be Todd,Amanda and Courtney. And it may be a sure bet that Todd wins since he's stood back and let Amanda be bold enough to make the moves to get the strong players out.If Courtney would win,it would shock me no end.She just solidified my intense dislike of her by suggesting that Todd's news was all a ruse. How can she be so cynical at her young age? To me,she's just not a very nice person, not somebody I'd ever ick for a friend.

I'm glad that Denise did what she felt was the right thing for her to do,to try and stay tight with her orginal alliance.PG only took Denise on her reward challenge to try and swing her vote, pure and simple. It's a game,PG! Poor Denise is out,no matter who holds the upper hand.I was yelling at the screen when PG,once again, won immunity. I hope she doesn't this next week and she is gone, before Denise,I hope.

thanks Jackie...awesome report...I will miss Erik, he is laid back and easy on the eyes. I was hoping Denise would Flip because with Todd gone, she has a better chance of staying in...I think they will dump her right after PG..shame....I think she has played a decent game.

Sydney, I do understand the culture thing. It just seems as you said that it gives Peih Gee an unfair advantage and that drives me crazy.

I imagine the rest of the tribe will go all out next week to try to beat her in the immunity challenge because they really want her gone and lately she's won a reward challenge and two immunities. That's got to be making them very nervous.

Then , as others have mentioned, I'm sure they'll go after Denise on Sunday.

PLEASE, let me NOT see Courtney win this thing. I can't imagine that really happening but Todd and Amanda may think they have a better chance against her with the jury rather than going against each other. Who knows?

though i totally LOATHE courtney, her suspicions of todd were not unwarranted. he has back stabbed with no remorse and played the entire game as if they were all marionettes. good for him, whatever works. but after the johnny fairplay incident the game has proved that to win a million dollars, morals must be thrown out the door. so sad that is true, as a new mom and cannot imagine not having my little one. buuuuuut, never underestimate a players game or their family.

Im actually now rooting for either Denise or PG to win the whole thing. I DO NOT like Todd or Amanda and the way they quickly turn on their alliance. PG may have thrown a comp to get rid of the "new" memebers in their tribe, but she hasnt turned her back on her own alliance. Todd & Amanda are slimey and I hope they go next. Courtney is just a self indulging little twit who doesnt deserve to win either. The only thing skeletor has done in the game is sit perfectly still in a challenge...woo-freakin-hoo!

GO PG & DENISE!!!!!!!

Sydney said...

Funny Deanna -- I've been calling Courtney Skeletor myself.

I think Amanda has played the game well, and better than Todd, though he and PG aren't my faves, at least they are all PLAYING the game, which is something I can't say for lots of past contestants. For that reason I'm currently rooting for Denise and Amanda if indeed Denise goes, but this may change per ep as more unfolds.

Thanks for the full update, Jackie.
Hope you're not freezing over there.

You've all posted some really good observations from this episode. I enjoy reading them and most of the time feel I don't have much to add. ;)

The family challenge was touching. I always like it when they include a family member at some point. I did get all choked up when Todd received the sad news. Courtney's cold comments were uncalled for. Now I have even another reason for not liking her. She and PG have irked me from the very beginning.

I agree with everyone about Denise not making it to the end. Too bad, I'd really like to see her win but it's not going to happen. Interesting how if you flip from your original alliance too soon you're seen as not being loyal and trustworthy but if you don't flip as a strategical move to protect yourself later in the game you end up being the looser. Guess that's why it's called "Survivor". I've never been one to believe that the end justifies the means so I'd loose no matter what. ;)

So true about the cultural aspect of the show. The producers had to have at least one contestant of Chinese descent. But, I don't think that PG is personally favored in the challenges.

Sorry to see Erik go. He seemed like a nice young man. And so it goes on Survivor.

Stay warm and have a great weekend, all. :)

I think PG has a definite advantage in cultural questions...for example...every Chinese/American gives money in a red envelope..even I know this because my sister in law is Chinese. It was a no brainer for her and few of the others got it right. Same with Chinese inventions...most Chinese are justifiably proud of all the Chinese invented...even Chinese/Americans know this aspect of their history.

Sydney said...

Anon -- I totally agree. It's funny, it was the red envelope question and the inventors that made me think it too. I got money in a red envelope from my Chinese GF on my wedding 2 months ago and so I knew that answer but was surprised that so few others did... and then when they came up with the inventors, I thought, OK, this is WAY too easy for Peigh-Gee.

In the past when they have given questions as challenges about the culture of the location they're filming within, or traditional lore surrounding the area, they usually start with Jeff telling them some long story. Then they have to remember what they heard -- either right then or later in the game. They didn't do that with Chinese culture.

Maybe they felt it was not as unknown as some of the indiginous peoples of the islands they've been on in the past,...

Going back to the spoiler that was given at the beginning of the show as to who was in final 3, I was hoping the spoiler was wrong. Guess not. I still don't understand how Courtney stayed there all this time. She does absolutely nothing and remembering back to her in the temple and how we all just commented on how much we didn't like her. She's so unworthy of being in the final 3. HOWEVER, if I were going up against someone, she might be the one I would want next to me. I don't think any of them feel she has done anything to warrant the win either, so they probably wouldn't vote for her.

I have to say that Survivor did beef up their challenges this year and it wasn't the same old puzzles each competition.

Again, really don't want to see Courtney in the next Survivor.
