'The Amazing Race 12' - East Coast Updates - 1/13

Jackie's TV Blog, Amazing Race, TAR

Oh, no. I don't know if I can handle this. The show is starting on time here in the NYC viewing area. Yikes.

As it airs, I'll post updates in real East Coast time including the elimination -- and we know we can expect one tonight. Late tonight my full episode review can be found over on TV Squad. But, for now ... commentary is always welcome here!

In Taipei Ron and Christina have a slight lead. TK/Rachel, Donald/Nicolas, and Jennifer/Nathan are bunched together at the airport, so TK and Rachel have overcome the 3 hour gap. They haven't done any tasks yet, so no Speed Bump yet.

Speed Bump completed. Ron and Christina still ahead. Donald/Nicolas and Jennifer/Nathan awaiting 8 PM train, TK and Rachel on their way to the train station.

At this time, on the way to the Detour, Jennifer and Nathan are last and bickering. Ronald and Christina are on their way to the Pit Stop and likely will be first. The other team standings are all fairly close.

Ronald and Christina came in first, won a trip.

2. TK and Rachel (yay!)
3. Donald and Nicolas!!!

My thanks go out to all of the readers who declared Nathan and Jennifer the fan favorite team last week. Due to our hard work and telepathy, they were Philiminated and won't be in the finale.

OMG Nate thinks Thai food comes from Taiwan...are you kidding???

I love that Nick and Jen were going to "get ugly" -- but when someone else beat them to it, they get angry. Jen "couldn't believe they would do that to them on HER birthday." All I can say is lololol!

One hurdle crossed! Hope the speed bump is an easy, quick one.

joy n said...

Speed bump - Run thru fireworks, then water. WHOA!!!

Hopefully brains wil win! N&J sure don't have them!

joy n said...

If TK and Rachel can only catch that train, they're still in this.

Jen - poor baby, not enjoying her birthday so much so far.

joy n said...

YES!! They still in it! Jen is soooooo disappointed!

joy n said...

Ooooh, sour grapes galore!

joy n said...

I can't stand you either, Jen.

Oh! They so deserve each other! This is getting better and better.

joy n said...

Hope N and J's bus gets a flat! This will be right down to the wire. Please let Jen have the birthday present she so deserves!

Did he just call Jen a shrew? I love it! Could it be he's finally had enough??

# 1 team at the gate!

joy n said...

Monty and all -- Looks like our reverse voodoo worked BIG TIME! Buh Bye Nick and Jen!!!!

joy n said...

This was worth watching! Every minute of it! I almost felt sorry for Nate but not one iota of sorrow for birthday girl!

Delee said...

Now that was entertainment..thank you CBS and AR!!!

The mojo of the blog favourites (even when we fake it) still works!

Sydney said...

Well, Nick can be a dick himself though..

He WAS crying at the end, but who knows why.

joy n said...

Jackie, WONDERFUL idea on that reverse voodoo or whatever. We did it!

I am one happy camper -- in the company of a lot of other happy campers!

I don't care who wins the million. I like all three of the remaining teams.

YAY, Whoohoo, Yippee, can't believe it worked! I'm as giddy as a school girl. I haven't watched it with sound yet though, LOL. We were out to dinner at a restaurant and they had in on the screen but no sound. Have it DVR'd and about to watch it!

Good job guys... we did it!

I'm still hoping for a TK and Rachel 1st place finish, but won't be ubhappy if Ronald and Christina get there first. I still hold it against Nicholas a little bit that he let his grampa do a lot of the hard work.

Boy, didn't they all turn against TK and R when they started catching up? I am so happy for them. They've been decent to each other all along. I'm turning the mojo off this week. TK and Rachel all the way!

When Nathan was talking about Taipai he said he liked Thai people and Thai food. The taxi driver looked puzzled...was Nathan joking or stupid?

monty924 said...

Anon 1:05, he was being stupid. I actually had the biggest chuckle of the show hearing him say that.

Nate, if we're ever in Thailand at the same time, you don't have to buy dinner, I'll treat.

I was really warming up to Donald and Nick, until I saw the previews for next week. Could it be that I was wrong about Grandpa and Grandson? Nick's been nothing but gracious and accomodating to Donald the past couple of weeks, and it appears when the heat is up, GrandDAD gets ugly. Any team at this point could win and I'd be happy... however.....

No reverse Mojo here either. Go TK and Rachel!

Delee said...

The remark Nate made was about Thai food in Taiwan, as that is the country. Taipai is a city in Taiwan. Not to be nitpicky, was just to clarify...

No favs for next week, but if age has anything to do with it TK and Rachel will win it. Last season's final run was not as long as other seasons, but Ron and Don would have a hard time in a long finish run with all bunched up. We will see!!!

We were out for dinner for my son's birthday and we got home for the last 15 minutes. I was in seventh heaven when I saw TK/Rach right there, racing with N/J and started yelling my brains out.Kudos to CBS,the finish was a real nail biter, but was so happy the Dastardly Duo came in last and Phil gave them the old heave-ho!

I hope that it's TK and Rachael who win when this is all said and done, but I can handle any of the three coming in first. There have been times I have not liked Ronald or Nick, but TK/Rach have run a good race and overcome many obstacles and remained nice people all the way through.I agree if it's a foot race to the end, they have the edge.PUH-LEEZE,make the football schedule the same next week...okay?

wowo Jackie, thank you! that was a good one, and I loved seeing jen get her birthday "desserts" humble pie.
I like all three remaining groups, esp R&C and N&R Im glad the diva is gone...Oh and I think Nick was crying cause he just spent all this time with this bitchy woman and now has to ride home with her on a plane....he probably hopes they get separate flights...

Anonymous said...

I think AR powers that be should apologize to the world for unleashing Jen and Nate as ambassadors of these United States. Ugly americans indeed. Did you see the people just staring in disbelief as the pair argued about taking bus or taxi. Unbelievable! So glad they are gone.

Anonymous said...

I think this is one of the first times that I really won't mind seeing any of the three finalist win. Usually there is at least one that I am hoping will miss a plane or fall down while sprinting for the finish line, but I don't have anyone to root against this time. Other than Nate/Jen, I was pretty happy with the racers this season.

Thanks for the recaps Jackie. Looking forward to the finale next Sunday!

For the handful of you who are interested, here are the ratings for TAR on Sunday and it is really good news on a great day for CBS (times are Eastern):

7-8 p.m.: 60 Minutes: 9.49 million (#2); A18-49: #3, 1.9/ 5 (#3)
8-9 p.m.: TAR 12: 11.63 million (#2); A18-49: #3, 3.8/ 9 (#3)
9-11 p.m.: Comanche Moon: 15.75 million (#1) 3.3/ 8

For comparison, FOX won the 7-8 p.m. time slot with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: 18.29 million; 7.6/18. ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition which usually wins the time slot had 10.75 million (#3), A18-49: 3.8/ 9 (#2).

Of particular note for TAR 12 is the 2.14 million viewer growth coming out of 60 Minutes and the growth in the 18-49 demographic. Obviously one of Les Moonves's lackey's is getting his butt kicked for approving Viva Laughlin and not getting two series of TAR from the beginning.

Sydney said...

YES Margo! I was watching all the ppl in the background staring in disbelief in the subway area, on the corner when they were to get busses and once on the bus. I too thought that these folks are as bad as Bush (sorry if I offend anyone)for our rep worldwide. I will spend the rest of my travels over-compensating for them!

Anonymous said...

What network boob thought Viva Laughlin was better than this season of TAR? Did the network even screen it before bumping it back to mid-season replacement? This is one of the best casts I can remember!

I can't stop giggling about Nate last night (Rrruhhr! We're gonna be like the Incredible Hulk and rip our shirts off and everybody else is gonna be like "What?, where did they come from?!")

Where should we chat about Dance Wars?

joy n said...

Delee, Jackie has a place on the sidebar for discussions on Dance Wars.

NANA- (and maybe Dla is also interested?)

This is a carry over from your question last post. Cashmere Mafia has started already (Jan 6th?)-- though I haven't seen it yet. Since Darren Star, producer of Sex in the City was not able to secure the rights to his friend Candace Bushnells' book Lipstick Jungle, he went and wrote one of his own and Cashmere is it... and he got it on the air a few weeks before Lipstick Jungle starts! Ha!

Cashmere is Wednesdays at 10 EST on ABC and Lipstick will be on Feb 7 on NBC 10 EST.

Jackie...just got around to reading your TV Squad article ... my sentiments exactly...

I have to say that this episode was probably the most exciting I've watched. Of course, because I want TK and Rachel to win and so their catch-up was scary to watch. One minute you think they're OK and then they would do something like searching the grounds for the clue box, only to walk right past it. With Rachel saying they should be searching the grounds, I was sure they had gone back down. My heart was in my throat...

Also whether they were going to catch the monorail in time ... Then whether they were going to beat Nathan and Jennifer to the pit stop.

When they came in second I had to actually take a deep breath... now that's good TV IMHO.

Go TK AND RACHEL! Don't dislike anyone, but still have bad vibes for Ronald...and now Donald. You got this far, don't start finding fault now Grandpa...

Did anyone notice that Nate looked wet before he went underwater in the jeep. I was wondering if he had to do it more than once and they didn't show it. I viewed it twice and he is definately dripping. Any thoughts? I was also disappointed in Jen's reaction to the jaged rocks. I thought she would be screaming and crying - no such luck.

monty924 said...

I couldn't agree more, Meb. I was practically screaming at my TV and Rachel to listen to TK when they were looking for the clue box. I mean... Sky Building and Floating Garden... what was she thinking? If I hadn't already watched it (sans sound) and knew they came in second, I would have had a heart attack.

Donald said he thought they would go out early and didn't want to look like a schmuck, and that he was proud they made it this far, then in previews he looks like an A$$ talking to Nick. I wish he'd make up his mind. Geesh!

I think TK and Rachel stand a good chance to win this. Ronald and Donald could be the downfall of their respective teams. I've never watched TAR before this season. I got into it for lack of anything better to watch, and more so because of this blog. I haven't been disappointed. Thanks! :)

I was up on my feet in my living room by the end of the show, pacing even. Yippee is what I say!
I couldn't stand one more minute of Jen. I was up to the part where I was hurling insults at the television to the dismay of my family.
Although Nathan displayed few redeeming qualities, I was sad that he cried at the end. It seemed to me that he was crying more about the relationship than the game, and there really is no point in crying over that...it's poison, let it go.
I like all 3 final teams, but I hope TK and Rachel pull out the win.
Nate's comment that he doesn't know a lot about Taiwan, but knows Thai food is good was priceless. It has to be one of the best lines ever.

realityworld.com has an interview with Nate and Jen. They spent a little time apart after AR, but are now HAPPILY together. Go figure. Some people are gluttons for punishment. They also say the "editing" made it look like they fought more than they really did. Riiiight!

Just a short note since I'm commenting so late. Jen and Nate GONE! YEA!!!!!!!! :))
