'Celebrity Apprentice' and Schtuff

Brr ... cold enough out there for you? Here's a hint about what I had to face this morning in 15 degree temperatures and high winds. Although that article has few comments, I know what the commenter from a previous post was talking about with the nasty comments left on that site. Scary stuff.

I'll talk about The Celebrity Apprentice towards the end of this entry. I'll be mentioning the fired person at the end of the post, so beware if you haven't watched the show yet. Although the show caught my interest enough tonight, I doubt I'll be watching it come mid-February. So I'm not going to get into blogging about it full-force.

A few other things first:
  • I was pleased with the return of Letterman last night, but that beard has to go. Soon. And far away. It frightened me.
  • I think I'm going to like the new cast changes on Law and Order. It's about time McCoy got a promotion, eh? I like Jesse Martin fine, but Dennis Farina partnering with him didn't do anything for me. The new dude shows some promise. I was a bit disappointed that it was two separate one-hour episodes. I think it could have made a splash debut with an involved two-hour story.
  • I watched Wife Swap last night. Is it just me or is that show getting even cheesier each season? What the heck was up with that "sparkle" bit? I kept feeling I was watching a commercial of whatever that gum is that cleans "dirty mouths." Why do people go on these shows knowing that they'll look like idiots?
  • The cast list is up for Survivor -- thanks, ORKMommy! Jonny Fairplay indeed. I thought they said fan favorites?!?
Onto Celebrity Apprentice ...

The pros:
  • I actually enjoyed Gene Simmons from Kiss and, on the whole, how the men got along.
  • They're in NYC where the show belongs. Good.
  • The "celebrity" bit enhances the tasks -- they can call on their contacts, etc.
  • The proceeds go to charity.
The cons:
  • Donald Trump, the Trumpette, and the Trumpling.
  • Piers Morgan is rude. There, I said it.
  • I hate the Baldwin's eyes. He always looks stoned.
  • Who are half of these celebrities? If I saw most of them on the street, I wouldn't even notice.
  • Trump is partial to Omarosa and tonight's show showed it.
  • Omarosa is still a B Word.
The odd:
  • Not even going to his hair, but Trump's tan/coloring is all screwy. It looks like he's been in a tanning booth wearing sunglasses. Ew.
  • The winning team got to watch the main boardroom session of the losing team prior to the firing. I'm of mixed feelings about that. They can see the weak links of the other team too much.
SPOILER COMING

The Fired:
  • It should have been Omarosa because she's the one who decided (and enforced) they shouldn't use their celebrity to sell hot dogs. But, instead, it was Tiffany the Playboy Bunny who didn't call Hugh Hefner for a donation. (After Omarosa didn't want them to do that, mind you.)

I loved it! Gene Simmons had the line of the show... "She's a survivor... a cockroach", speaking of Omarosa. I think this cast will give us plenty of laughs, and we really have little to watch these days.

Go GENE SIMMONS! lol

Jackie,

Five minutes into the show and I was yelling at Omarosa. I have a feeling she'll be around for awhile (for the entertainment value), but I would be happy if she went home next week.

Stephen Baldwin is the brother who is saner than Daniel but not as sane as Billy or Alec. And none of them are related to Adam, for which I gather he is eternally grateful.

Omarosa has got to go. She was playing the game like a regular season of The Apprentice and it's not. She had assets in the form of her more famous teammates and she deliberately chose not to use what they brought to the table, their celebrity.

This was a task where you sold the sizzle not the steak, and if there was anybody who realized it, it was Gene Simmons. You use your contacts and make a big deal out of it so that you not only get their money but you get a crowd that you can get money out of.

Of course I'm a bit prejudiced in Gene's favour; his "lady friend" Shannon Tweed and I went to the same high school at about the same time - she was a grade behind me and as far as I know we never met, but we knew some of the same people. (And yet she's not responsible for my low Kevin Bacon number; one of my close friends in high school is now the VP of R&D at Pixar, which means he worked with Tom Hanks on the "Toy Story" movies who worked with Kevin Bacon in "Apollo 13.")

Jackie, yes it is cold, but I will be watching California for what they are about to receive. Makes what we have seem like nada.

I agree about the beard...makes me think of a "Mountain Man" trying to stay warm in the winter.

Wife Swap is getting stranger and stranger exchanges. You mean you do not have "sparkle"? LOL

L&O CI is moving back to NBC on Weds nights, so back to back with L&O. I am glad about that because I kept forgetting it was on USA.

I enjoyed Apprentice...I am glad a different take was conceived. I agree with Monty that the cast is interesting and their antics will shake things up.

Jackie...I wish you and all bloggers a wonderful NEW YEAR. I am now back in PA after a scary trip from New Orleans. We had an emergency landing in Huntsville AL, we were to land in Cinncinati, then on to DC. The front landing gear came down an hour out of Nola and shortly after the pilot told us we lost a hydraulic line-1/2 the brakes-1/2 the spoilers and later we learned control to steer on the ground. After landing with fire trucks and police everywhere, we were towed to the terminal. Thank God we were on a regional commuter jet vs large jet and needed less runway to stop! Guess what we got for this? LOL pizza and soda!!! No I am not joking!!! Flew to the other airport in DC on USAirways and my car was at the other airport. OH WELL, we had fun in NOLA.

I loved this show, I thought it would suck like the last season but between Gene Simmons and Vincent(big pussy)this is going to be great and trump might finally have a hit. Omerosa is a bitch and she wants it that way. She should have been fired but then how will Carol Alt kick her butt later. I can't stand Pierpont. As for the Baldwin all I kept thinking of was the poor Mom who had to raise all those boys. Her house must have been crazy but I like him he's always happy(maybe stoned). Anyhoo Jackie thanks for the updates

Thanks for the spoiler Jackie, I didint watch cause Omarosa..well I had my fill of her the first 10 seconds she was on the original...And wife swap is getting weirder, and I didnt watch it either....Im thrilled there is Survivor talk...but Jonny Fairplay? A Favorite? Are they NUTS?

oh yes..we are awaiting the "Storm of the Century" here....while my son in Watertown NY huddles under many feet of snow and cold...

Brrr, cold and colder here in OH. It was 4 yesterday and only went to 17. But never fear,it's to be in the 50's by Monday....LOL.

Won't,and didn't watch the APP. I have had my fill of Trump, along with Rosie and refuse to watch another thing in which they are involved. He will do most anything for a dollar and I think he's an ass.

I watched WS,just because there was nothing on and I have to say...where do they find these "people"(using the term lightly)!!! The "beauty pagent" family was the biggest joke in the world. Now aren't those two pathetic parents teaching their kid some valuable life lessons? God forbid anything happens to that kid's face, because they would probably disown her. They are probably in awe and shock that the two of them, neither lookers OR smart, had the luck to spawn her.She may have a pretty face, but they have raised her ugly on the inside. And in the other family, how would you like to have that man for a teacher of your kids? He was near insane when he roared out of that driveway, with his kids in the car! What nut jobs...all of them!

Did any of you watch Gene Simmon's show "Family Jewels" on A&E? He's a savvy business man and will be the "secret weapon" as Stephen called him.

Thank you all for being such a terrific sounding board! I have been 'lurking' since the last BB and look forward to commenting more often.

Boo - I absolutely love Family Jewels! His family is so funny and they're real people (as opposed to weird Hollywood people!) Gene is a very savvy businessman indeed. Did you see the one where he bought that ranch with cattle so he could get into selling bull semen? He actually "extracted" semen from a bull! He's a crazy guy!

Anonymous said...

Orkmommy----how exciting! You replied! See! I knew this was the place to become involved!

Family Jewels can be seen on A&E On Demand if you have that facility. One of my very favorites---and the children seem to be well adjusted. They never told us if the bull semen business paid off.

While I am here, Jackie, let me thank you for all the enjoyment you have given me and for providing this forum for nice people!

Hey Boo, I'm a Family Jewels fan, too. Absolutely love the family and crazy Aunt Tracy.I loved the Kentucky Derby episode.
I can't stand Trump, but the celeb version is interesting. Different celeb personalities who need to work together for the greater good of the team. That's a nice dynamic, and I enjoyed watching it last night.
I am hoping Omarosa gets fired soon.

I watched it, but I think it was only because I'm soooo tired of repeats. I was really into the Apprentice the first couple of seasons but lost interest. I can hardly stand Trump and Omarosa on the same screen. But, I watched. ;) The good thing about the show is that profits go to charity.

Jackie...

Have you told Letterman to shave that beard yet? Some men look very attractive in a well groomed beard but NOT Dave. LOL

I hope you were bundled up warm to face those 15 degree temps. I can't even imagine. I'm complaining because it's in the low 50's here. ;) Yes, it's actually raining in So CA. The last time our local weather forcaster said we were on "storm watch" we got about 10 drops. LOL But, we're getting some real rain tonight. My prayers go out to those who live in the burned areas as they are in real danger of mud slides.

Stay warm and safe all!
xoxo

I was never an Apprentice watcher, but for lack of anything else, I watched. Omaroso is a bitch and I'm already over her. She should have gone first. Have to admit, Tiffany was mild mannered and she should have called Hugh Hefner for a donation. Especially after seeing Marylou Henner's windfall. If Omaroso doesn't go next, I'm not sure I'll be able to continue watching. She never shuts up!

Welcome to the fold Boo! You're gonna love it here!

Tiff sealed her fate saying she was holding out calling Hef for later. If she had said we lost by 40k because our PM told us to focus on selling hot dogs...and out PM didn't advise us to change tactics when she saw Mari Lu reel in 2 5K hot dog sales.

On the new Survivor cast...1st i was looking at the 8 on the 1st page trying to figure out who they were...but it was 4 favorites and 4 fans...but then even after I went to next page I hat hard time with couple of faces.

On the fans team...one is an ice cream scooper...LOL Do some just want the worst title?

So happy to see Yau-Man, James, Ozzy and NO Courtney! Johnny Fairplay I could have lived without seeing again. Guess they needed a villain. I liked Amanda until she started the "it wasn't me, it was him" act in the finale. I wasn't crazy about Cirie, either. I didn't like Parvati, but can't remember why anymore. I'm sure she'll remind me. I vaguely remember Jonathan and Ami. Eliza has completely been erased from my memory.

Of the fans, the girls look pretty good and the guys look hot. Michael and Joel, in particular, look good to me. I like big guys.

I can't wait until it's on again.

I love BB and am very much looking forward to it, too, but, it can be almost draining at times. A part of me wishes it had waited until summer to appear again, just for the respite. But I'll be there every episode awaiting Jackie's every post every single day.

I am so starved for the best of reality TV. It makes you kind of appreciate TAR ever so much more.

This strike is putting a huge damper on my TV evenings. I get the reasons for it and sympathize whole-heartedly with the writers, but, sheesh, I need my Jimmy Smits fix!

joy n said...

By the way I'm red-faced and eating crow because in spite of all my kevetchin' and because CSI was a rereun, I ended up watching Celebrity Apprentice (she said shame-facedly). I wouldn't admit that to anyone but you guys. And as much as I can't stand the Donald or Omorosa, I have to admit I liked the celebrity angle.

I agree with all, the biotch should have gone home. She grates on my nerves more than Johnny Fairplay, and that's saying something!

I was never into KISS music all that much, but am a huge fan of Gene Simmons on Family Jewels. The man is funny! Who knew? He is the biggest reason I will probably watch again next week.

I'm also hoping to see "O" go down quickly and that Gene himself has something to do with that. She is a roach.

Gene Simmons will make the show if he doesn't get the boot from the Donald this next week. Something tells me the edit on the previews isn't exactly what one would think though. Omarosa will only last as long as Trump decides to keep her around. She would never last past the first show otherwise. Ick!

I was actually a huge KISS fan in the 70's. My older brother took me to my second concert (ever), when he was home on leave from the Army, and it was to see KISS. My first was Billy Joel, lol. As you can see, my music tastes run the gambit!

Looking forward to TAR tomorrow night. Heres to Jen and Nate hitting the pavement back to the states. Go TK and Rachel!

joy n said...

Monty 924, I'm counting on the editing trying to play on our minds, as they ususally tend to do. If Gene Simmons leaves, I may stop watching.

My first concert ever was in LA in '71 to see Santana (Miles Davis opened for them). As a B-day present, I took my husband to see Barry Manilow in '85 or '86. He's one of my hubby's faves, swear to God. I won't comment futher. I've gone to a few others, but my favorite was my last one in '03 in Buffalo to hear the Eagles. I consider it a highlight in my life, I LOVE the Eagles!!!! My taste is kind of out there, too, in music, but how dull this world would be without it, you know? Did you ever hear Blue Man Group? Different with a big WOW factor.

And, YES, GO!!! TK and Rachel!!!

Happy New Year Jackie! I am glad you are finally being paid as a writer. I have been frequenting your blog for nearly three years now. I hope your are beginning to mend your broken heart. We all felt for you when you lost your beloved cat.
This may have already been mentioned, but Johnny Fairplay just got engaged to his 7month pregnant, bi-sexual girlfriend who was also a contestant on America's Next top model. Here is a link to her my space.

I along with many others of you simply can not take one more minute of Omarosa!!!!! She makes me not want to watch the show. I know Trump is keeping her on for ratings, but she makes me ill. She is the rudest and most arrogant human being and is a disgrace to womanhood. I hate that she has made a significant living by being the B word.
Here's to a great 2008 and all our anonymous friends on Jackie's blog1

There's so little to watch..thank goodness for Bravo...but I just can't want to watch Omarosa again.
I can't stand her for one second.
I couldn't even get to the challenge, I turned it off after they picked their names because I was already yelling about her.
That's NOT entertainment to me.

Sorry you got all caught up in that transit mess on the freezing day, Jackie. What a hassle! I live and work in Bergen County, so now that December is over, my mall traffic headaches are done too.

Welcome aboard Boo and thanks for all of the great comments all! It looks like the Donald may have found a way for us to watch his show even if we despise him with the celebrity version. Gulp.

Totally Loved your comment Brent!!!!

I agree Gene Simmons is a secret weapon. Yes I have watched every ep of his family's show. ALso used to work with him. He's a machine regarding business and winning.

Carol Alt is a force to be reckoned with. Omorosa should let up on the bitch stuff. Yes, it's part of the comic book-style character she's made of herself, cuz you gotta have a gimmic, but I think she sould redeem herself and get a serious shot at work this time around if she acted more wisely. Seems that's not gonna happen.

I didn't watch at all last year, but this one will at least be interesting as the first season or two was.
That's a realy LUCKY break for the Donald.
