So You Think You Can Dance Discussion Post

Although I'm personally in the "So You Think You Can Walk" stage right now, this is a show I really enjoy.

I won't be blogging about it each episode, but I think it warrants a discussion post. I know I'm sure to add some thoughts in the comments section.

The link to this post will be added to the sidebar and I hope everyone who watches the show jumps in with their opinions!

hi jackie!! am so glad you are doing so well! keep up the good work! my thoughts and prayers are with you.

meb...(and everyone) i wrote a comment on the last post...then jackie added this so i was not sure you would see it. i don't know how to carry it over. just wanted to thank you......

Thanks, Jackie! It is great to "hear" from you, and you are sounding more like you every day!

I will jump in West Coast time ~ Thank heaven we have something to watch tonite! Last night was just pathetic. :)

Nancy -- I'm so happy to hear that you're feeling better!

Thanks for cracking me up just now with that Jackie. Though may I remind you, you WERE dancing just a few days ago and apparently you can't blame it on the pain pills... :-)

but perhaps out of celebration --- the joy of coming out of surgery and getting back into life

I'm glad Twitch did well. He's my sentimental favorite.

Awwww... nancy in pa... I went back and read your post and that was so touching. I'm glad they were happy tears. It's just that so many of us have ailments now and then and when one of us is "missing in action" we start to worry. I wanted to ask you what was wrong, but was afraid it was personal. Thanks for giving us the particulars and I'm so glad you're feeling better, although not quite up to par yet.

Man, you must have been really sick to not even able to get into the hospital. That's a first I think, or at least first time I ever heard of it, but it makes sense.

Keep on plugging along... just like Jackie and you'll be feeling better in no time.

I'm going to watch SYTYCD tomorrow, so I'll comment then. Keep good notes here everyone. I just can't keep my eyes open for some reason. Could be the heat.

Later...

Stephanie won Top Chef.

Sydney said...

Woah -- a woman won to Chef????!!!

Jackie - So glad to see that your sense of humor got through the surgery intact!

Loved SYTYCD tonight ! My favorites were Joshua and his partner ( can't think of her name ) and the couple that did the Mia Michaels piece. Mia's choreography (sic) is always fantastic. I think we are in for a good season!

Glad Stephanie won Top Chef. I really didn't want Lisa to win. Wasn't there supposed to be a fan favorite ? I thought it would be announced tonight.

Thanks for spoiling Top Chef for me!! Please keep comments like this off. I came to read about the dance show not get the end of an entire season ruined for me. I am west coast and haven't even got to watch it yet. Posters please be careful!
Jackie, glad you are back and doing a bit better.
SYTYCD is going to be off the hook this year. I am so excited.

Caligirl, that is how it happens here. We have the freedom to write what we want. Since Jackie does not comment on Top Chef, where else should we comment? ALSO that result should have not been a surprise.

Maybe you should have waited until you saw all shows from last night to come on here. Gee Whiz, relax, it happens.

Anonymous said...

Yes,I think most of our West Coasters are saavy enough to know that we comment on the happenings as they occur in East Coast time and if they don't want to know the results, then they should probably try and stay away until they watch it in "their " time. We try and be careful, but it's hard sometimes, and as one who got "raked over the coals",I appreciate the anon who said, take a chill pill,it happens. I'm sure it wasn't the end of your world, and how could you be surprised at that result anyway??

I'm still uncertain as to who stood out for me last night on SYTYCD,but they have a good group. I think some of the b-boys and poppers surprised me,but the praise for Chelsea and Comfort was just a little over the top for me.I thought their partners did much better than they were given credit for and the ability to shake your rump does not an entire dance make. The guys are almost always at a disadvantage in most ballroom, just because the woman is almost always the focus of attention, but they partnered really well,IMO. I don't much like the teacher from Miami,Susie, and I hate those dark eyebrows with her "blond" hair!I kind of like Twitch, too,Jackie.

I'm sooooo happy that Stephanie won Top Chef. About time...girl power!!!

RBennie said...

SYTYCD got off to a good start! Nobody was horrible, LOL. If I had to pick, I would say my least favorites were the disco number at the end and the jazz routine with the really tall couple. Sorry I don't know all of the names yet, but it takes a while. I thought Susie and Marquis were really good and the hip hop number with Justin and ______ was really good also.

Sorry about the Top Chef results being revealed and spoiling it for you Anon, but that does tend to happen here. I should know, I'm often guilty of it. I totally forgot it was the finale last night and went to bed without watching. Glad a woman won, although I actually thought Richard was the better chef.

I don't think Jay Mohr can make up his mind what he wants to do when he grows up. First he started with Last Comic Standing, then moved to Ghost Whisperer, and now he's taking a sabbatical from GW to star in his own sitcom...Project Gary. Jamie Kennedy (I'm not familiar with him) is going to take a role on GW to fill the void.

If Mohr's sitcom doesn't work out, taking a "sabbatical" from GW will permit him to return to the show. He's no dummy!

Oh... This problem with spoilers is never going to change on a blog like this. We are free to say what we feel here (as long as we're nice) and so you read at your own risk.

Happy Thursday!

SYTYCD is looking good for another season! No stand out faves yet (or actually too many to name!), but I agree Twitch rocked!! And we love him from last year, so that was great to see. Comfort was probably my least favorite last night, but too early to tell!

See you all tonight!

Anonymous said...

My husband doesn't like SYTYCD so unless I want to go in the bedroom by myself, I won't be watching it this year. I am filling my time reading the Inspector Lynley series by Elizabeth George - #11, A Traitor to Memory to be exact. Glad you are feeling better now, Jackie.

Hi all!

nancy in pa...

I had to read a few entries back to read that you had a very nasty bout with the flu. I'm glad to hear the worst is over and hope you feel great soon.

FYI...I usually read the newest posts and may not get time to go back and read older posts. So, if I've missed something important that someone here has posted, please forgive me.

I watched SYTYCD for the first time last night. It's ironic that I never got into this show since I've studied dance from the time I was 4 yrs. old until college.

I paid particular attention to Twitch since Jackie mentioned him. I did like the routine that he and his partner (name?) performed. But, I was really taken with Chelsie and Mark. I was really up for the disco routine but was disappointed. I think maybe it was the choreography rather than the dancers themselves. Also, liked Kourtni and Matt doing the jazz routine to Tainted Love. The Tango was great but I thought Will out danced Jessica and carried himself better. I thought I was really going to like the Cha Cha but it was predictable and not that professional.

As a dancer in my younger days I'm fully aware of how much work and training it takes just to execute one simple move properly. These dancers have to be admired for their strength and the state of their physical condition as well as their steps. These dancers are athletes in their own right. I can't help but view the dancers a bit more technically than somemone who has never danced.

sydney...

Don't you just love the hair/make-up and outfits they wear? I'm sure you had some opinions working in your head. ;) I know you're busy getting ready to "get out of Dodge" soon and I wanted to wish you a good trip and good luck with your presentation.

Just so you know, I might not be around that much in the next couple of days...busy...busy...busy.

Off topic...

With all the wicked weather I've been seeing in the news, I hope everyone is safe and out of harms way.

Hope you all have a good Father's Day weekend. I know it will be bittersweet for those who have lost their fathers. Hold their memories in your heart to cherish forever. I'm very blessed to still have my Dad.

Jackie...

It's so good to see your appearance and words on the blog once again. I hope you can manage to let us know what your OS said at your appointment today. I hope you find time to read your AOL emails and see the pizza (graphic) I sent you. We should have another pizza party here. LOL Keep rockin' and rollin'. :)

Ciao!

Did anyone watch the A-List awards on bravo last night? Evil Dick was nominated for Drama King in a reality series.

Anonymous said...

Not surprised who went last night, but was hoping maybe Rayven would last a little longer, just cause she was the oldest(though years younger than me!).I guess I have a soft spot for those who haven't made it and are growing a little long in the tooth.I was shocked they kept Mark and sent Jamie home, since TV Guide had Jamie down as one to watch and predicted he'd go far.I still can't decide on a front runner just yet.

Hope all went well at the doctor,Jackie, and you got nothing but good news!

Nancy in Pa,sorry to hear you've been so sick and it's good to see you back posting. Take care of yourself and take it slow and easy in your recovery.

meb said...

Watched the first night's show and am again, amazed at these dancers. Let's face it, they're mostly young and to be able to do some of this choreography to the professionalism some of them exhibit is phenomenal. Just love it! I, too, am sort of a critic, having been in theatre most of my life, but I just gotta give these kids kudos.

I thought, since I didn't watch the elimination last night, I'd wake up to someone giving us the low-down here. Who were the three couples and who went home???? Come-on, spoiler or not, I NEED to know. Otherwise I have to go home tonight and watch a lot of "stuff" just to get to the ending.

jamie... will we ever be done with Evel Dick????? Smile.

meb said...

Sharon, I must have been slow typing while you were posting. I had a feeling the first dancers would be in the bottom three. Don't know the names yet, so not sure, still, who went home except for your saying the "oldest" female... she was in the first dance and while good, I thought the choreography was a little off on that number.

RBennie said...

Spoiler Girl to the rescue! Just for you MEB :)

The bottom 3 couples were Kourtni & Matt (Jazz number), Will & Jessica (Tango) and Rayven & Jamie (Hip Hop). Rayven & Jamie were eliminated.

I personally thought that based on solos it should have been Jessica and Jamie going home.

Will's solo was phenomenal.

Anonymous said...

I just knew they wouldn't send Will/Jessica home because all of the judges raved about their dance and they made the comment that "America got it wrong",BUT if who they send home is based on their solo, then I agree that Jessica's was not very good,at all,but then,Rayven's looked strange for some reason. I also thought Jamie had more personality and technique than Matt(sorry I called him Mark). And I think it puts the mismatched couple at a disadvantage next week,to go up against couples that already know each other's style and who have bonded, but that's JMO.

RBennie said...

Jamie and Rayven were partners Sharon, so the couples will remain the same.

Anonymous said...

Man,I guess I am all messed up,I thought a couple was split up,but I can't tell who's who at this point....lol! This is sooo what I miss about Jackie being here, she keeps up all up to date and she's always had the 411 on what goes down. Thanks Rbennie,I must have been typing my fantasy while you posted........I'm going to take my fuzzy brain and go think about it for a while......LOL!

RBennie said...

Don't worry about it Sharon. There are still too many of them to keep the names straight. I will admit that I checked the SYTYCD website before I posted the names, LOL.

dla said...

Happy Friday!

Sorry I did not post last night, but got caught up following the show, and then could not remember the names of the dancers that were eliminated! lol

Too many to remember at his early stage of the game. I was somewhat surprised to see Rayven leave, but give her kudos for her gracious departure.

I don't believe we often see an actual couple leave together, do we? I am having a hard time remembering, but it seems to me they are typically split up?

This show makes me smile! I know I comment on the same thing year after year, but it is a happy show, and, with so much drek on TV these days, it is nice to have something so positive!

Have a great weekend!

Anonymous said...

okay...so i watched SYTYCD for the first time last night. LOVED it!!! can't keep anyone straight as I am just learning the ins and outs of the show..but i am sure as i watch, and read all you guys post i may be able to figure it all out. i do agree with you dla...it was a good show and no one was crude, rude, or backstabbing. totally refreshing....although i must admit i am soooo looking forward for bb to start again. loving something that usually disgusts me as it goes on (bb)....perplexing and disturbing.....hate to think what that says about me :)

i am caught up on real world and workout. yes, there are shows "in my closet" i rarely "come out" about. ok, i watch the hills too. oh my. ok...i even watch "sweet sixteen". thats enough admission for now!

oh yea...can someone tell me the premise of the mole before i tune in next week?

meb said...

nancy in pa... the premise behind The Mole is the people on the show have tasks they have to accomplish... however, one of them is a mole and tries to sabotage their efforts. They earn $$ for their accomplishments that goes into a "kitty' and at the end of the game, the last one standing wins the money. Could end up being the mole.

At the end of each episode, they have to answer about 10 questions individually as to whom they think the Mole is. The one who gets the most wrong answers is eliminated.

The mole can never be eliminated. The "cast" tris to make each other think they are the mole, so they'll answer the questions wrong and get sent home. We, as viewers, don't know who it is either, so we try to guess along with them.

I really like the show and hope you can get into it as well. Fun to discuss and throw out who you think is the mole.

Hope this explains it.

RBennie said...

MEB, I think your Mole explanation was excellent except for one point. I don't think the Mole can ever actually win the game. I think it's the last person standing against the Mole wins. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the way I remember it.

meb said...

rbennie... I re-read that later after I wrote it and thought that might not be the case. I think you're right. The Mole just gets paid for being on the show, right?

Thanks for catching that.

dla said...

nancy in pa, I have caught the first and most recent season of Workout. What did you think of the episode this week?? :)

Did you watch Real Housewives? I watched OC, but only caught the reunion show for NYC.

The show that I truly loved to hate was Blowout with Jonathan Antin... What an addictive train wreck that was! lol

Anonymous said...

meb and rbennie.thanks for the mole explanation. i am anxious to see my first episode!

dla....workout got really interesting for me..especially with jackie and her trust issues....but then i realized that was the finale till next season (whenever that will be). so far i like greg and ..is it rebecca?..the one that left to go console jackie after her break up. jackie seems to have some major control issues. i could never work for her. and that video looked boring. i felt bad for her mom getting thrown into that little family fest without warning. it looked to me as if she was going to get back together with brianna after all that complaining about how young she was...go figure. yes, i watched both real housewives (both oc and ny) love that show. thought i would like oc better but ended up liking ny better. the difference in coastal cultures was amazing! i don't know the show blowout you refer to. oh yea..i watch split ends too. cripe, i never realized how much tv i watch. prior to getting sick i really did have a life.......

Anonymous said...

oh yea...i'm watching next food network star too ZZZzzzz.....

oh yea...ace of cakes....

Anonymous said...

Again,I may be wrong(again)but I thought if the Mole does fool everybody, then they win all the money. And I thought it did happen on one of the shows, the one that ended in those ruins, was it of a prison or something? The last one walked out and it was revealed they were the Mole and had fooled everyone. But then I don't remember what I had for dinner two nights ago,so I may have this all wrong. Where are our posters with good memories...they'll have the ticket, yes they will.

pepsip said...

Sharon,

I think that was the firdt dseason of the mole. Katherine was the mole and I think Steven won. He came out to get his results and was told he won. Then Kateherine came out and was revealed as the mole. ( There were 3 people in the final - 1 winner - 1 mole - 1 final victim of the mole i.e. loser) All finals have ended in a similar way with the 3 people .

Joy n - thanks for the info on the reunion show for Top Chef!

It's been reported by several sources that Bachelor's Matt and Shayne, whom moved in together into her condo immediately after the season ended, have had a change of plans. Though Matt says they haven't broken up, they feel they both "need space to grow". Hmmmm........

We had one heck of a thunderstorm last night. Knocked out the electric, phone service and, of course cable and roadrunner. The electric came back on after a few hours (about midnight) but no phone, no cable, no internet until late this am. What a bummer! At least I had a battery powered radio and CD player. Music does soothe the soul. Music by candlelight is pretty cool, actually.

I also saw on AOL gossip that Andrew Firestone is finally getting married, but not to his Bachelor pick...of course!

AboutDubbed television's smartest reality show, ABC is bringing back "The Mole," featuring all-new missions, locations and music, plus online and mobile interactivity, enabling more viewer participation during the 10 episodes. Jon Kelley ("Extra," "The National Sports Report," "Baseball Today") is host.

"The Mole" follows a group of 12 players as they try to figure out who among them is The Mole, a saboteur trying to keep them from winning money. Players must decide who they think The Mole is and then learn as much about him or her as they can, because, at the end of each one-hour episode, the player who knows the least about The Mole is immediately "Executed" from the game. In the final dramatic episode, The Mole is revealed and one of two final players wins a substantial cash prize.

"The Mole," based on the hit Belgian format, will be produced by Stone & Company Entertainment.

Are SYTYCD dancers going to be better than the AGT dancers? I guess we'll find out tomorrow nite.

dla said...

Strong show again tonite... I have to say that Twitch and Kherington bring a tear to the eye!

It will be interesting to see who goes home tomorrow nite ~ I am predicting Susie for the girls, and not sure on the boys.

See you tomorrow nite for the results! :)

Anonymous said...

I started watching "So you think you can dance", and was unsure why......

meb said...

Chris...if you like dance, then you know why you watch... these kids are just one dimensional who are taught, in a very short period, a dance routine that for the most part is totally unfamiliar to them, and then they have to dance their heart out to remain in the competition. The choreography is not simple, it's very difficult. You watch because you want to see them succeed. You watch because they are worth it! You might want to give it another try.

Having said all that, I was impressed with most of them last night. I thought the "jedges" were a little tough on a couple of them, (and I still don't know who is who yet), except Twitch, and he did a great job considering his background... tackling a waltz... I mean, come on.

I'm not sure why there are those who don't like Comfort... I think she is very talented.

Anyway... great show and couldn't even start to predict who might go home tonight. Feel bad for whomever it may be, because I think they are all worthy of continuing, but I guess someone has to go.

Anonymous said...

Again I was so impressed with the poppers and b boys last night. Most of them really stepped it up.

I guess, because I am not a trained dancer, I just don't get,or much care for,a lot of the modern dances. I get telling a story through dance, but some of the moves are not attractive or add to the story and it just ends up weird, for me.Mia Michaels or Mandy Moore don't float my boat and Michaels is sure a hard a$$ when it comes to judging these kids. I really didn't like the first one with Chelsea/Thayne and thought C was very stiff legged in it.The second one was a little better, but not great, that was Courtney/Gev.

For me,I liked Kharington/Twitch's dance the best and thought Chelsie/Mark(tango) and Kaytee/Joshua(broadway) was the best of the night.

I thought Susie was a joke! This was her speciality and she sucked, big time and her partner wasn't much better. I feel sorry for Kourtni, she's so tall and her partner isn't much taller than her and she just looks like a giant next to him and she comes off as less than graceful. I wish she could dance with somebody else, and if she lasts that long,it may happen. God forbid she gets some shorty, like Gev,that would be even worse!

RBennie said...

My thoughts on last night's show:

I thought the judges were a little harsh with Chelsie & Thane. I thought they did the best they could with bad choreography. I usually like Mandy Moore's pieces, but didn't get this one at all.

I thought Courtney & Gev's contemporary was really good. It was very romantic and there were some really unique lifts.

Loved, loved, loved Joshua & Katee. They are one of the couples to watch. Joshua is much more than a "Popper".

Will and Jessica's hip hop was a lot of fun. I thought the judges were harsh to Jessica. Yes, Will was clearly better, but she held her own. I don't think there will be any style that Will will struggle with much.

On to Kourtni & Matt. I thought they did a decent job, but she is just so big that its very hard for her to look graceful and elegant. Someone said they wanted to see her with another partner, but I think she's already with the tallest guy in the competition. She would tower over all the others, with the possible exception of Twitch. I think Kourtni & Matt will be in bottom 3 again this week.

I enjoyed Comfort & Chris' krump routine. Nigel just lost his mind on his critique didn't he? He has made the same comments about krumping before, and someone needs to reeducate him on what its all about.

Susie & Marquis did a very forgettable salsa. I think they are in danger tonight. I wouldn't mind seeing her go, but I think he has a lot of potential.

I was so proud of Twitch! Kharrington was great, but he was so out of his comfort zone and did such an amazing job that I actually teared up a bit, LOL. They are so safe!

I almost forgot Chelsie & Mark. Their tango was good, but didn't excite me much. A little too much of that "leg kicky" move. Probably not the correct technical term, LOL.

dla said...

Not surprised that Susie left, but I was a bit surprised that Marquis got the boot.

What did you all think? Any favorites yet?

Caroline said...

I also don't think Marquis should have been the guy who went home. His solo was much better than either of the other two. Thayne wasn't too bad, but it seemed like Chris just ran around the stage and completely improved his solo. I think he should have gone home instead.

My three favorite couples are Courtney/Gev, Kherington/Twitch and Joshua/Katee. I like Chelsea Hightower, but her partner Mark freaks me out a little. And I enjoy Kourtni/Matt but I don't think they're up to the level of everyone else. I think Will is much better than Jessica and would like to see him with a different partner. The rest are good but they just haven't grabbed me yet with any fantastic routine.

Caroline said...

For clarification...I meant that I thought Chris' solo was improv...as in not planned ahead of time. Not sure that was clear the way I worded it.

Anonymous said...

I totally agree with you,Caroline. I thought Chris's solo was crap and could not believe that they kept him over Marquis. And Nigel said the decision was unanimous? They damned him for doing "tricks" and then tell them they have to go all out and "dance for their lives",and when they do,they lose.Nigel keeps telling Chris he has no personality, and it's true. Are they just trying to keep the couples together? I KNEW Susie should be the one to go home,I have not liked her from the start,in fact, was surprised they put her in the top 20. I still don't have a favorite,I hope somebody stands out for me soon.

RBennie said...

I agree with you guys, I don't think Marquis deserved to go home. IMO his solo was the best of the mens. It was definitely Susie's time to go and I think the judges just took the easy way out and sent the couple home instead of having to repair a team. I was surprised to see Chris & Comfort in bottom 3 - I thought it should be Kourtni & Matt.

meb said...

Some powerful dancing tonight. I actually liked the African number, but probably most people won't, so they'll probably be in the bottom. Names???

The two step, they were really off tonight as to be synchonized. I'm guessing they too will be in the bottom. I hate it I can't remember their names yet.

Excited to see who goes home.

dla said...

This show does my heart good! :)

Great dancing tonight, and they are definitely stepping up week by week, which is great to see.

Not sure who will be in bottom 3 couples, but I would personally pick Jessica to go home for the girls and Chris to go home for the guys... I think this will be the week that a couple is split up and we get some movin' and shakin' on the pairings.

meb, I am also excited to see what happens tomorrow night!

Anonymous said...

Can't wait for tonight,I am not sure who will be in the bottom three, but feel certain it will be Chelsea/Thayne(quickstep)and Comfort/Chris(jazz) and have no idea who will be the others.

I "loved" Chelsie/Mark(hiphop)and Kaytee/Josh(samba) and I "liked" Kortni/Matt(contemp) and Jessica/Will(disco) and Coutney/Gev's tango.So I guess that just leaves Kherington/Twitch for the other bottom couple...maybe,maybe not!JMO

RBennie said...

Thought it was overall a good show last night. That quickstep will definitely land Chelsie & Thane in bottow 3. I actually thought Comfort & Chris did well with their dance. I didn't like the choreography much, but thought they executed it well. I liked Chelsie & Mark's number, but didn't see much hip hop about it. It looked way more contemporary to my untrained eye. I really, really hate the disco numbers, but thought Jessica & Will did good. Will was exceptional - so much feeling in each cheesy move, LOL. I thought Kourtni & Matt's number was a little weird, but I guess they performed it well. I do think sometimes these choreographers get praise where its not due. Love Joshua & Katee. These 2 are the couple to beat right now. Courtney & Gev's rhumba was very nice. They are just such a tiny pair that I always kind of think of them as junior dancers or something, LOL. Hard to think sexy when I look at them. Even though she was wearing the hell out of that dress! I liked Twitch & Kherrington's hip hop, but don't think it was as good as the "jigges" made it to be. My guess for bottom 3 is Chelsie & Thane, Comfort & Chris (undeservedly), and Kourtni & Matt.

Anonymous said...

rbennie,I so agree with you about the choreographers! AND a lot of attention and praise is heaped upon them each show...enough already! And I think they lose sight of the fact that these kids have so little time to grasp these dances and are so out of their element much of the time, that the ones that deserve the praise are the dancers!!I'm not much into Hip Hop but have to say that I like Tabitha/Napolean's take on it better than most. The two MM's(Mia& Mandy),I could do without all together. Sometimes it's almost watchable, most times, not for me.I loved seeing Melanie(and Tony) again, have watched for her since she was on What Not To Wear( and no,she didn't take Stacy and Clinton's advice).

RBennie said...

What about this latest choreographer they added. I don't remember her name, but she was kind of scary looking, LOL. I think she's going to give Mia a run for her money as far as quirkiness goes.

dla said...

Another highly interesting yet freaky number by Mia Michaels to start the show! :)

(I would love to get in her head to see where all his comes from!)

No big surprises, but Nigel is pretty darn tough on a few of them this season.

Next week should be interesting!

meb said...

OK... so who went home last night. I didn't get to watch.

I do have to comment on one thing... Mary acts like an idiot. She might know her dancing, but her screaming and hot tamale train crap gets on my nerves, I want to turn down the sound when she's talking.

I did like the fact that when Cat Deely (by the way I really like her as the hostess...she's so natural) well, when she asked Nigel who should go home, I'm so glad he and the others went in a different direction and didn't pin-point any one dancer. I don't think it's fair because I think it probably influences the voters to a degree.

Anyway... who went home!

Damn the spoilers, full speed ahead.......a big shocker(at least for me)they sent Chelsea Traill home and, finally,Chris!! His solo was, again, less than spectacular. I was almost positive they would send Kortni home, but nope, they didn't.So a new couple will form, being Thayne and Comfort. I know some of you like Comfort, but I think she's had it easy, getting mostly dances that fit her comfort zone, and as long as she "dances for her life",it seems they wll keep her.I think Jessica is lucky she's got Will to dance with, because think he's saving them as a couple.I'm glad Kortni/Matt stayed,I kinda liked their little quirky contempory dance. I also agree about Mary's screaming, she dresses like an elegant lady and acts like a complete moron,at times. I don't much care for that Adam guy, either,he talks waaayy tooo much. I still can't stand MM's dances, this one looked really similar to others in seasons past, but done by other choreographers,no?

dla said...

Ladies, I must agree that a very little bit of Mary's hysteria goes a long, long way with me. If there is the occasional outburst for something spectacular, that is one thing, but we are getting a bit much of it for this early in the season. And then Adam had to join in and do some screaming! Oy vey! :)

Adam is also not one of my fave judges, primarily due to his lack of ability to stay on point. Bless his heart.

The funny thing about Chris (after watching his highlight film) is that his auditions looked so much better than his solos... What is up with that?? If you are dancing for your life, I would think it was time to throw down, but who am I?? lol

Remains to be seen how Thayne and Comfort will do as a couple. Neither of them are in my personal TOP 5, but maybe they will bring something out in each other that we have not seen.

I also agree that Jessica is oh-so-fortunate to have Will as her partner! :)

See you next week, same time, same place!

AS much as I don't care for Mia Michaels so much as a judge, I have to say I love her choreography. The "bed" # I thought was not so much a dance, but I couldn't take my eyes away from it.

Time for bed, so I'll comment more tomorrow. Just had to say something about Mia.

Anonymous said...

"So you think you can dance" what a joke, It should be called,"So you think you can be in a Broadway Musical". When I watch the show now, it makes me feel like I'm watching skits to a Broadway musical, not a dance show. Last nights show was the worst. The choreographer Mia Michaels, choreographed a skit where both the performers flopped on a mattress and were throwing rose peddles up in the air. All the judges thought Mia did a wonderful job and they all loved it. You've got to be kidding me !!! What are the judges seeing that I'm not ? That definitely wasn't dancing to me. If the show continues to go the way it's going, you can count me out and I don't look forward to it having another season !!!

Anonymous said...

I also agree that maybe they should change the name to "So You Think You Can Choreograph This Show"! I have said, many times, that I don't like either of the MM's dances at all. To me,that's not dancing. Where are the steps, the moves, the flow and give? But I guess this is just like reading movie reviews, the critics for that rave over the stupid, obscure films nobody goes to see and bash all the box office hits, the PEOPLE's choices. I,for one, thought that bed dance was a farce and the one for Kaytee/Josh they all raved over, what ugly positions and moves,it almost looks as if they are having seizures much of the time. Again,I am NOT a trained dancer, but I know what I like to see and watch, and sista Michaels, that's not it.

I didn't see one dance that blew me away last night, not one! And that West Coast Swing,by Benji, with Kaytee/Josh,those stupid judges were all over her with praise and she had no bounce in her step, was stiff legged and Josh outdanced her,by far! I think I actually liked Courtney/Gev the best out of them all, they were,at least, consistant. And I agree with Nigel, that Jessica will be in deep doodoo when they have to change partners,Will is carrying her on his back.

meb said...

Wow! Guess it's good that we all don't like the same things. I think I look at the dancers, not to see whether the dance is good or not, but did they do what was choreographed, and when you watched Kaytee and Joshua do that # of Mia's, you had to marvel how they could carry that off. Mia is weird... granted, but if the kids can do what she asks of them and does it well, then the dance is a great success. When Josh was actually carrying Kaytee across the stage and her legs were barely touching the floor, I knew they had accomplished what Mia asked of them.

I'm no fan of Mia's, but I love what she can get these dancers to accomplish.

Truth be known, they don't know what or why they're doing it either. Last year, Lacey did a rag doll Mia creation. I think it was the most clever "dance" I'd ever seen, barr none!

I'm anxious now to see who they'll be paired up with when it's time to change partners. That should be happening soon.

It will be a toss up as to who goes home tonight.

meb said...

No body commenting on who went home? Well, I'll start.

I felt a little bad that Kourtni and Matt were sent home because I think they danced what they were given. Nigel is always saying they're not doing enough, but if th3e choreographer told them to dance it that way, they should sent the choreographers home. Neither of their #'s were that good, but I thught they danced them well.

Bummer, but somebody had to go. I guess Nigel is out to get Comfort next from what it sounded like.

And I thought he was really rude to the kid who did the special. Nigel holds a grude obviously since the kid "name" turned down the offer to go on to Vegas during the auditions.

Nigel also went after Mary for her screaming the other night... he's really getting testy!

Anonymous said...

Oh,meb,I certainly agree with you about how rude Nigel was to the guy who washed out in Vegas(they say he quit,he says not). That was totally unprofessional of Nigel to ask him on the show and then attack him on-air. He has a niche and he does well in it,but could not conform to the choreography. The fact that he didn't want to embarrass himself is none of N's business.

I was sad to see Kortni go,but thought Matt was in danger for a while. They kept saying he wasn't dancing into the floor, and I could kind of see that.I am so glad they saved Courtney/Gev because I like them,a lot.Comfort can go any time for me,she's lucky she had those hip hoppers on the judge's panel this week.

meb said...

I guess people are getting tired of the show or are just too excited about BB coming back on to comment.

I have to be honest, while I like some of the dancing, it's nothing like last year's talent, I don't care what the judges try to get us to believe.

At any rate, Comfort and Thayne are gone and now the final 10, who will be on tour are left. Regardless of who goes home from this point on, the final 10 is set.

I'm still watching tho, but usually from what I taped. I never seem to get to see it during actual time. I hate commercials, so I prefer to fast forward.

Who's next t6o go? Who knows. See you next week.

Hey, here's some news:

http://tinyurl.com/5ncs3b

Jessica is out with an injury and Comfort is coming back.

I thought Mia Michaels was very mean to Jessica last week, when she told Will he needs a new partner and Jessica is holding him back.

Not a big fan of Comfort, though. Don't think she can do much outside of her own style.

Erica said...

Who is ready for some mary screams this week?

Not me!!! I can't stand when she does that crap, and the whole "You were hot, YES YOU WERE!". She does that crap all the time. I am getting so sick of her. And, Nigel...what a creepy pervert. ROFL!

Erica said...

Thanks for the info Clementine. I'm not a big Jessica fan, but I a bigger "not comfort fan". My favorite is the shorter blond. I think her name is chelsi. Can't stand the girl that is with Gev. I think it is her mouth that really bugs me, and I think she over does her dancing. Everyone else seems to love her (even my husband, lol).

RBennie said...

Well there's a twist I wasn't expecting. Jessica's injured and Comfort's back in. I don't think it will do her much good other than having one more week to show her stuff. The audience never warmed up to her and you can't be saved by the judges anymore, so I'm sure she'll be gone again after this week.

Too bad about Jessica. Although she's far from my favorite - that would be Will - I did want to see what she could do outside of Will's shadow. I think the judges have been overly harsh to her from the beginning.

I find myself liking the boys more this season. The only really good girl, imo, is Chelsie.

Anonymous said...

That's too bad about Jessica,I was so glad to be done with Comfort, and now, she's back, and I guess she gets to dance with Will,or is this the week they mix it up?

I still like Courtney/Gev as my favorites, but who knows when they get new partners, how it will go.I don't like Mary's antics, but just mute the tv when she goes into her rants. I think MM is overly critical of almost all of them,EXCEPT,her favs, which she is quick to point out, which I think is totally inappropriate, considering you are a judge. I also don't think you should be a judge AND a choreographer on the same show, that's a little suspect.

maybe Nigel will be out for Comfort's head again this week,we shall see. I'm glad everybody is back commenting again.

RBennie said...

Did anyone watch last night? I was doing my whiplash thing between BB and SYTYCD and then between SYTYCD and Project Runway, so of course I missed big chunks of each. From what I did see though, I think Will and Katee make an amazing couple. She's the only girl in the competition who is anywhere near his level technically and they were both showing a lot of personality last night.

I missed Joshua and Courtney's first number, but their rhumba was smoking hot. Courtney actually surprised me. I thought it was only the chemistry between her and Gev that made them look so good, but she has just as much or even more chemistry with Joshua! She has gone up a couple of notches in my estimation.

Moving on to Gev and Chelsie. She danced circles around that poor boy. I give him credit for hanging in there, but she clearly outshined him. I think he could be in trouble this week. His solo was excellent though, so that might save his bacon. Chelsie is definitely my favorite among the girls.

I came in on the middle of Comfort and Twitch's waltz(?). I'm guessing it was a waltz, I could be wrong. Not a bad effort, but no wow factor to it, except for the lifts, those were amazing. Their second number was hip hop and, as expected, they burned up the stage on that one. I missed both their solos, so don't know how those went. I would predict that Comfort will once again be in bottom 2 of girls and will go home again. I think Twitch will be safe.

Surprisingly, Kherrington without Twitch is not much fun to watch. I found both of Kerrington and Marc's numbers to be just so-so. The country number was very slow and looked like they were thinking through the whole thing. I think the second number was jazz, but it was so unmemorable I could be wrong. These two were not a good match up at all - zero chemistry.

My pick for boy going home would be Marc.

I'm kind of liking all these new types of dance they are incorporating into the show. I didn't think I would at first, but the Bollywood number last week was fun. Although I'm not a fan of country dancing, it was nice to see. I loved the pas de deux and would love to see more of that type of thing on the show.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

Erica said...

I agree about Kherrington without Twitch. She just lacked passion in both her numbers. I still love Twitch and Chelsi. Still can't stand Courtney or Katee. The rest are just "there" for me. My bet is that Comfort and Gev go home this evening.

Anonymous said...

Yes,I'm afraid it may be Gev or Mark who goes home tonight and that's too bad, because they were good with their other partners. I agree that that country number was horrible, but mostly because of Kherington, she was just awful!

And how convenient that Comfort/Twitch got hiphop,so they can shine. I thought they had zero chemistry,as did most of the new couples. I'd have to agree that Kaytee/Will were the best of the bunch, but I have to tell you, even with heavy hitters Will/Twitch,I really, really like Joshua, something about the guy's personality just makes me love his dancing.

I hope Comfort goes home, but Nigel isn't on the warpath like he was before she was gone, and if she stays, that will be a shame.

Meb,what did you think of Project Runway's season opener? They sure have some freaky people this time.I could not believe they let that guy who sent that diaper getup down the runway stay, but Jerry's was awful,as was the final three. They all should have been sent home. YIKES!

dla said...

Hi everyone! I am a day late, so to speak, and on the west coast, so will comment on last night, and pop in later after watching the elimination tonight.

I would agree with everyone that there was not much chemistry with the new couples last night. I did really like a couple of the dances, and felt that Will / Katee probably showed the most promise of the evening.

What in the world happened to our sparkly little Kherrington?? Yikes!

I am with most of you regarding Comfort... I was ready for her to go, and believe she will be leaving again tonight.

Boy going home should be Mark or Gev...

See you later after the results! :)

dla said...

Aaahhh! I think America got it wrong tonight. ;(

Shoulda been Comfort and Marc.

Darn.

Erica said...

I'm glad Gev left. I like Marc.

I don't understand why there was even a vote for the girls. Comfort has already been kicked off. I don't understand how she is still there.

Also, is it just me, or does Cat drive anyone else crazy? I think she has got to be the worst tv host ever!

RBennie said...

Somewhat surprising outcome last night. I thought for sure it would be Comfort and Marc, but in all fairness I think Comfort did do a better job than Kherington on Wednesday. It was kind of a toss up for me between Marc & Gev, but I thought Gev's solo on Wednesday might have kept him in it. I don't think that Marc can keep up with the other 3 guys that are left and will probably be out next week - but then you never can tell.

I actually like Cat Deeley. She seems to truly care about all the kids and shows them a lot of warmth and compassion. Her accent at times can be a bit bothersome, but I'm over that now.

Anonymous said...

Oh,I really like Cat,as well. When she first came on to replace the other girl,I was all set to dislike her, being a Brit and all(I have a thing about using our own talent where possible)BUT I do like her just fine now. I cannot believe she walks on those mile high shoes she wears!LOL!

Oh,I do believe America got it wrong, too. And what happens when Jessica comes back?? She goes on tour and Comfort is just SOL?And why did Jessica get a free pass, just because she made it to final 10? Other times when there is an injury, that dancer withdraws.I am almost positive that next week,Comfort will be gone and Mark, most likely.Who knew America didn't love little Kherington, but her dancing was crap this week! And the pouting didn't become her.

RBennie said...

I'm not clear on what you mean Sharon. I thought Jessica was injured and she's gone, end of story. Did I miss something? Does she have a deal to still do the tour? That doesn't seem very fair. I would think at the very least they would let them both do the tour. Especially since Comfort didn't get sent packing again this week.

Erica said...

Wednesday night, when they pulled Jessica out on stage to explain what happened, she said that she had to sit out for 4-5 weeks so she could heal for the tour.

I thought I'd be the only one that can't stand Cat. Her awkward height, the way she walks, her mouth, and her "judges" kills me. I mute or fast forward her.

Caroline said...

Seems rather harsh to hate people for their height or their accent since these traits are completely beyond their control. Guess you'd hate me and my "awkward height" as well.

dla said...

I personally like Cat, and think she is quite attractive! She has legs from here to Miami, and typically dresses very well.

My opinion is that she is very genuine with both the dancers and the judges, and I really enjoy her much more than the host from season 1.

That is what makes the world go round, as we each have our opinion, and "perception is reality" for every one of us.

And how lucky are we that we have such a great blog provided by Jackie where ALL opinions are welcome! :)

I will say it again...

JACKIE ROCKS!

Erica said...

Caroline:

Never did I EVER use the word HATE. I simply would prefer someone who does not accentuate their accent on purpose to host the shows that I enjoy. She drives me nuts because I know that she is doing some of these things on purpose...the "judges" thing is a perfect example.

I am very tall for a woman, but you do not see me strutting around all over a stage in 3 inch heels and a dress that would fit my 5 year old.

Erica said...

Last night, I thought that Bollywood dance was a little weak. I LOVED the number that Joshua and Katee did of the Bollywood. I thought they did an excellent job, but last night there were just too many dancers that weren't strong enough to pull it off for me.

RBennie said...

I liked the Bollywood number last night. I do think the Joshua and Katee number was much better, but I think that's because I could just concentrate on the 2 of them and in the group number there were just too many of them to look at. It was even hard for me to differentiate who was who with those costumes. I guess Will stood out the most for me in that number as he seemed to be in the front alot. The number I didn't care for that much was the guys number by the mystery choreographer, Nigel Barker. It seemed like too many different styles all jumbled together. Don't get me wrong, I thought the guys danced it well, but I think they should fire the choreographer, LOL. Mia's number was a little strange, as usual, and I hated the makeup jobs on the girls. They looked so washed out, but I guess that was the intention.

Caroline said...

My mistake for misquoting you, it was not intentional. It just seems odd to me to base your opinion of a person on what size shoes they wear and how they pronounce words. Granted none of us will ever meet Cat Deeley, but it seems if someone uses those criteria to form opinions of people they run the risk of missing out on meeting and getting to know great people.

She only says "judges" the way she does because the audience absolutely LOVES it, you can hear them screaming it along with her every week. Why not give the fans what they want?

No one can please everybody, and I'm sure my thoughts won't change your opinion of Cat Deeley, I just wanted to better explain where I was coming from.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to sound like a broken record, and have made no secret of my dislike of her,but that number by MM was crap!! First of all,I had no idea they were supposed to be "angels" and having them writh around on the floor, like Madonna in heat, didn't add to the meaning of Ave Maria one bit. I don't know what has happened in her life to warp her,but her stuff is not my cup of tea,at all!
Yikes the WV is 15 letters and some of them unidentifiable!

Erica said...

Thank you Caroline!

My opinion on her is not an opinion of her as a person, but of her as a host. If it came off any other way, then that is my mistake. I believe that Cat is a very genuine person, but I like someone a little more up front and "mean" (I guess, for lack of a better word), like the guy from the Bachelor, or Jeff Probst. If they thought a dance sucked, they wouldn't be telling them that they danced it well, etc. Again, it is only my opinion, and I have every right to it.

I, myself, have a life full of tall, accented, and very diverse groups of friends and family, and do not judge a person on looks or anything else beyond their control.

Hope that helps explain my side of the "story" better.

:)

dla said...

Thank the Lord that the "judges" are in a good mood tonight!!!

Will check back in later!

RBennie said...

I missed a few of the dances last night between going back and forth with BB. I will have to try to find them on You Tube. Overall I thought all the performances were pretty great last night. They seemed a lot more performance driven than actual dancing.

Anonymous said...

Man,what a night...first half was turning back and forth with BBX and then second half with Project Runway,so missed bits and pieces of the dances.

Now,I know I don't like her and maybe that makes it biased, but does anybody else find it "convenient" that Comfort has gotten HipHop for one of her dances every time since she's been back??? That way,if her other dance sucks, they can still say good job on the other dance. Didn't much care for her fox trot, just not that great!I hope she goes tonight and I'm afraid it's Mark, and I really like him.

On the subject of HipHop,I'm so sick of seeing it,time and again, every week. There are other styles and genre of dance,Nigel!!!I'm sure that's why they brought in Tabitha/Napolean,so they could show a different side to it,that appeals to us "older" folk, but come on,enough already! Especially when it plays to the strengths of certain dancers...JMO!

Anonymous said...

I have to say,I am in total shock!WILL went tonight!!!! When Cat said that Mark was safe,I was as dumbfounded as he was(but happy, very, very happy)! And then when Josh got his news(another fav),again...shock!To know that Will & Twitch were in the bottom two, shocking! I don't think Nigel
was very happy about it either.

I had no worry that Courtney was safe and again,Comfort had written her ticket home! I hope she stays gone now! It's hard,I like all three girls, with maybe the edge to Kaytee.

I miss you here,MEB! Hugs, prayers and good wishes! (((((hugs))))

dla said...

grrrrrr...

Twitch is my sentimental favorite (to quote Jackie!), and Will is my technical favorite for the boys.

I guess that America watched a different show than I watched last night!

:(

Anonymous said...

I thought I was sad when Will left. I had tears when Mark didn't make it. I liked all 3 guys but Mark was just so quirky and so much better technically.
Was hard choice with girls. My fav is KT and I had a hard choice between other two. Still was not upset except for Mark. IMO, if America gets it right it will be a girl this year. My choice for the whole thing is KT.

RBennie said...

I thought of the 3 guys that Mark should be the one to go, so I wasn't surprised to see him leave, but I'm seriously bummed that Chelsie left. She was my favorite of the girls. I thought Courtney was going to go home. Although I think the 3 girls were pretty evenly matched - with Katee having the slight technical edge, Chelsie's sparkling personality put her over the top for me.

As for Twitch and Joshua, I love them both. If I have to choose a winner between the two I would give it to Joshua. He has been absolutely amazing all season long. I can't remember 1 dance where he was less than stellar, which is so surprising when you consider his specialty is hip hop.

Should be a great final next week.

Erica said...

I don't personally like Katee's attitude (think back to auditions...) but I think out of who is left, she should definitely be the one to win the whole thing. My pick was Chelci, but she is gone.

dla said...

I think it will come down to either Joshua or Katee for the win...

I love my Twitch, but I have to say that Joshua has outdanced him overall.

Should be a good finale!

RBennie said...

What, am I the only one who watched last night?

I love the final 4 and would be happy with any of them winning, with the slight edge going to Joshua. What a talented bunch of kids. They danced their butts off last night. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that they each had to be taken out on a stretcher, LOL. They were justifiably exhausted. I enjoyed all the dances with the exception of the Katee/Courtney number and Mia Michael's group number. I agreed with Nigel when he said it looked like the scottish olympics, LOL.

Caroline said...

Rbennie, I think you just may get your wish right with Joshua tonight. Personally I was hoping for Katee to win, but I think they all did a fantastic job and I won't be upset with anyone winning.

I didn't like the Katee/Courtney dance either and I was disappointed the gave them a Tice Broadway number. They are two fabulous contemporary dancers and that's what they should have given them to do, it was a wasted opportunity to really watch the two girls knock it out of the park.

Erica said...

What in the world was that rabbit dance all about? That was THE weirdest thing I've ever seen (I think!).

Anyone catch Allison from Season 3? She was my all time favorite and I cannot believe how different she looked!
