The Amazing Race - 10/19 Show

jackie's tv blog, the amazing race

Sigh. Once again, the show is delayed in this area due to football. 60 Minutes started at about 7:45 PM ET here. I'm going to go ahead and open this post for comments in case the show started on time elsewhere. While I won't be live-blogging tonight's show per se, I will update this post with important events ... once I see them anyway. Remember, it's going to be Phil's father at the Pit Stop tonight!

Finally, it's starting ... recaps.

Uh-oh. My team in the pool -- Aja and Ty -- have a flat tire. I can't believe neither know how to change a tire. That should be required knowledge to drive a car as far as I'm concerned!

Maori warriors are cool.

Pit Stop Order

1. Ken and Tina - used FF. Won a trip to Rio.
2. Terence and Sarah
3. Kelly and Christy
4. Toni and Dallas
5. Nick and Starr
6. Andrew and Dan
7. Aja and Ty
8. Marisa and Brooke -- Philiminated

Phil's father will be at the pit stop? I didn't know that!

Well, guess we have another 45 mins before the show starts. Guess I can get the dishes done :)

joy n said...

Kind of curious to see what his dad will look like.

Don't know who I will pull for tonight since the Nerds were Philamated last week. I know it won't be the brother/sister act or the married couple.

Woah can't wait to see that-- I always like to meet people's family members to see what characteristics they share.

I am going to leave town at the crack of dawn Tuesday for nine days in the Shenandoah Valley. SIgh, just as I have gotten on a roll over the summer, blogging every day, I will have a snag in the momentum of posts there.

But I will welcome the chance to experience some fall weather and see some foilage. I have been hearing from people in New York, CT and Maine that the leaves are particularly beautiful this year.

Never been but my husband says when we were in New Zealand it reminded him of SV so I can't wait to see that!

RBennie said...

Oh we'll miss you Sydney, but it sounds like a great trip.

Delee said...

Finally starting here!!!

RBennie said...

Yes, the show is finally starting here.

Unknown said...

Eww, keep those frat boys away from my Cute Smiles and Candy! Guess what, boys? You're not the sharpest knives in the drawer either!

Unknown said...

I've had a flat tire once in my life. Why is it that there's a flat on every season?

Oh well, Ty, I didn't find your 'Fidel' joke all that funny, so there's some karma for you.

Delee said...

Lots of big egos on this race!

RBennie said...

Oh what a bad break for Aja & Ty. I wish Terence would just listen to Sarah at all times!

Delee said...

Good one, Clementine. Karma really does happen.

joy n said...

Fidel (Aja) and Ty starting to bicker a bit. Not a good sign.

That Terence seems way too needy.

Delee said...

No way I would climb that tower.

RBennie said...

Oh no the Divorcees are making a dumb move again.

RBennie said...

Well this is much easier to do in the daylight isn't it.

RBennie said...

I gotta say, even though I don't like Ken & Tina much, she is one tough broad! No way could I do that.

joy n said...

These two blonds are "knot" very bright, are they?

RBennie said...

LOL Joyn.

joy n said...

I don't get why Ken and Tina felt the need to use the fast forward. Weren't they already in first place?

RBennie said...

LOL, the frat boy thought the guy wanted to kiss him.

Unknown said...

New Zealand is beautiful. The greens are very intense. And the city looks very clean.

RBennie said...

They really didn't need to use it.

Unknown said...

Oh, come on, SBs! Get moving! You're way to entertaining to be eliminated! Maybe it's a non-elim round?

RBennie said...

Yes, Team #2

joy n said...

Aja and Ty better get a move on.

Unknown said...

Why wouldn't Nick drive to begin with after Starr hurt her arm? I thought maybe it was a rule that they couldn't switch drivers, but apparently they can.

Oh, jeez, SBs stompin kiwis in the dark! Please, please, let it be non-elim?!

RBennie said...

Awe, I feel bad for them.

Unknown said...

Aww, Philiminated! But we got a hug from Phil's dad, so that makes it better.

Boo-hoo, Caroline! I really thought we'd make it further with our Cute Smiles and Candy!

joy n said...

Jackie, our guys Ty and Aja, barely made it, but we're still in this.

I feel kind of bad for the blonds. They tried hard.

RBennie said...

Sorry Clementine & Caroline, your girls gave it a good try.

joy n said...

I'd hoped it would be non-elim, too.

One year ago tonight, friend and family were celebrating our weekend wedding celebration with us (we eloped in June in Maui but had a wedding-like party Fri-Sunday in October). The day after we left for New Zealand.... and we definitely saw Maori and they were mesmerizing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wishing you a late Happy Anniversary, Sydney! How lucky you are to be so well-traveled.

I know Petals, they are doing great!

Will be away until around Nov 8th, but will check in when I can.

Sydney, have a great trip, we are heading to Richmond VA tomorrow, our paths will kind of cross. HAHA

Have a great trip, Sydney. One year in October I flew into NYC and met three of my friends. We drove through New England. Wouldn't you know that there was no fall foilage until November that year.

I enjoyed the show tonight.

Sydney said...

I've been writing papers all weekend, so I am making no sense now.. we went to NZ for a honeymoon, left that out.

And Delee, what did I miss that you are going for a long trip to Richmond? Wonder what is there for you?

Anybody know anything about Shen. Valley or Charlotsville, VA?

Laurie said...

Good evening everyone. Just checking the AR stats for the night. I have nobody to root for since last week's elimination. Maybe I'll warm up to someone for next week.
I'm loving my visit to Chicago. Can't wait to return in the spring!

meb said...

lynn1... our sister and brother are still in there. I still can't figure out why people don't like them. I truly can't see anything they've done wrong. They haven't even played the game in a mean way??? Oh well... I'm rooting them on and hope they win, not because they're mine in the pool, but because I really like them.

Sydney, have a great time. I hope you get to see a lot of fall colors. We have none to mention in NC yet.

Laurie, I read that you couldn't wait to get back home in the Spring. I almost flipped out until I realized you meant you can't wait to get back to Chicago in the Spring. Am I right?

How did I miss that that was Phil's father? When did they tell us that?

OK, bed time... talk again tomorrow.

Terry is a Texan! said...

well once again I cannot watch TAR, so thanks for the updates, did anyone say if Star broke her arm or not?
Im sort of rooting for the separated couple, would do my heart good to see them reconnect.
Sydney, congrats, so happy for you and your husband! I love that you two are world travelers..
I think NZ would be awesome.

Jennasmom said...

Hey, Karen! We're in 1st place AGAIN! I was getting vertigo just watching them climb that tower!

Sydney & Delee - have great trips. I was in the Shenandoah Valley once for a sorority convention. But I was 20, and not really paying attention to the scenery. Thinking back, I think it must have been really pretty. Hope you see some great fall colors. We are seeing the trees turn here in South Texas, but I think they are just dying from the drought! LOL

PDX Granny said...

Well, here I am, a Johnny-Come-Lately as usual. The only time I ever get to comment along with everyone else is for the debates. Woe is me!

OK, enough feeling sorry for myself - on to the game!

Laurie, since our team has already bit the dust, we have to come up with someone new to cheer on. I think the only couple who hasn't done something to bug me is the mother/son team, Toni & Dallas. Maybe if we're real nice Petals and Delee won't mind if we grab our pom poms and be the pep squad to their cheerleading.

I must say I'm going to miss those Southern Belles. Definitely not the brightest of the bunch, but they did have good entertainment value.

Laurie, Sydney, Delee and everyone else out there traveling, first, I wish you Godspeed. Second, I'm jealous!! I'll be on vacation this week, and I'm spending it working around the house.

Oh woe is me - again! LOL

Delee said...

Jennasmom! Hip-hip hooray! We're still in it. That tower climb was awesome and I didn't hear much complaining! I laughed at the frat boys w/the warriors - he looked so scared! I did find the "Fidel" comment kind of funny - it was their way of talking it out. I loved that Phil's dad was there - I didn't hear the announcement either, but he did get a lot of hugs. I also thought that the player (cousin w/little person) from previous season would have loved to meet Phil's dad. I think she would have fainted.

Just glad I got to watch the whole show last night - we babysit the grandchild every Sunday night and he fell asleep early, so no babbling in the background.

Sydney - congrats and have a great trip. We are celebrating my one-year wedding anniversary in a few weeks. The leaves are starting to turn in SV, so you should have a great trip.

Be safe everyone on your journeys -
Karen in MD/DC

Laurie said...

Meb, yes I meant return here to Chicago in the spring! I may get back in December for business but that's not for sure yet.

PDX, Delee said we could join her and Petals so let's do it. Go Toni and Dallas!!

For everyone traveling, have fun... be safe... and enjoy the journey!

For everyone in pain (of any kind) hugs and love to you. May today bring you some comfort.

RBennie said...

Good morning all. Good show last night. Hey Sydney & Orkmommy our team is moving up steadily. If Terence can shut up and listen to Sarah, they might take over first place next week!

lynn1 said...

Meb, sorry I didn't get to post last night. I am with you I don't get what everyone has against Nick and Starr. Yes they are competitive and play agressively but they have not been playing dirty.

Sydeny enjoy your trip . Charlottesville is a pretty place. I am sure you plan to go to Monticello. There is also a historic tavern near there that is a nice place to catch a meal.

I love driving through the Shenadoah National Park. The last time we did that we saw a baby deer which could not have been more than a day or two old. Wild turkeys were on the side of the road as well.

While it isn't real close (probably a couple of hours drive) to Charlottesville You would be able to run over to The Homestead or The Greenbriar for either a great meal or spa treatments or both!
I know you will enjoy the area.

GAS WATCH: Gas this morning in Kingsville, TX is $2.16!

Anonymous said...

Sounds like lots of fun vacations starting. The one thing I have learned about road trips is to not have a set destination for each day. You can find yourself spending ALOT of time in the car to reach a certain location....thus missing interesting stops.

Well, my frat boys seem to move up one spot each week. At that rate they should be #1 by the finale!! LOL

I'm starting to not like Ty&Asa....he is a bit condescending and she whines alot; sorry Joyn & Jackie).

I think this is the first time I have seen so many teams choose one challenge and then switch. Those rocks must have really hurt.

I guess we have to wait till next week to see how seriously Starr injured herself.

Phil's father was a nice touch!

It is gray, gloomy, and raining here. I could have stayed in bed all day....but instead I get to go look for my daughter's dogs who escaped yesterday and haven't returned.

Went dancing yesterday for a few hours. It was good to get to be with my friends....couldn't remember anything and my legs got tired quickly.

BTW--gas is $2.85 here!!!

lynn1 said...

I seem to be a woman of a thousand words and always have super long posts..sorry about that but here comes another one,I am just busting to tell you guys about my weekend.

I visited some of the Mississippi casinos this weekend.
On Friday I won $680 on one of the slot machines. Not life changing but a nice bunch of pocket money for the weekend.
Yesterday I won $900. Although it wasn't a true Jackpot for the machine I was playing there were lots of bells and whistles going off. I had a flashing screen that said jackpot winner and I had to get the slots supervisor to hand pay me.
I also played in a slots tournment at the Hardrock Casino but didn't come close to a high score.
I didn't make it home until after 7:00 PM last night and was sure I would miss some of TAR but luckily for me it was very late starting so I didn't miss a minute!

RBennie said...

Wow Lynn1, congrats. Aren't you the lucky one. Can I borrow you for Atlantic City sometime?

lynn1 said...

rbennie,
Trust me my luck is not usually so good, that is why I was so excited.
Considering how often I give money to the casinos I think the law of averages finally caught up with me and I won for a change!
LOL

I have never been to Atlantic City or Las Vegas but I would love to go. I pretty much stick to the casinos on the MS gulf coast and New Orleans area.
I'm not a high stakes gambler but I love to pull the slots and play a little Black Jack.

meb said...

Hey lynn1... are we partners in your winnings too? I can send you my address. LOL

Seriously... That is great news. And whatever amount, it certainly isn't anything to sneeze at! Congratulations!

Caroline said...

Oh Clementine...I'm so sad our girls are gone! Had I not gotten them in the pool I may not have rooted for them...but by this point I've developed a soft spot for them and I'm sad to see them go. They were always so positive and nice to each other and everyone around them. Certainly good ambassadors to represent the USA. Oh well, at least they had a good time and saw some awesome places, they'll have good memories.

I can't stand the divorcees, they are nasty for no reason and look to be making more enemies next week out of Toni/Dallas. I'm in the group that likes Starr/Nick...maybe Starr more than Nick though. I thought he was kind of a tool to make Starr drive after she got hurt...and I wish they had updated us on that at the end of the episode.

I also thought it was extremely stupid that Ken/Tina used the fast forward while in 1st place. Hope that doesn't bite them in the butt when the next fast forward opportunity comes around.

Anonymous said...

lynn1--congrats!! Playing the slots is alot of fun as long as you know when to stop. We go to our local casinos a few times a month and hit Vegas once a year. I was surprised to see you had to have the casino manager come for $900. Here in Washington state it's 1200.

We keep a gambling pot that our winnings go in and that's what we use to play with. That way no money comes out of the household funds....ya, I know...it's a mind game!

joy n said...

Meb, I also like Nick and Starr's competitiveness and haven't seen any dirty pool coming from them. I think the divorcee's are much more mean-spirited. Sorry, Margo and Sue.

Nana, I'm not too crazy about Ty and Aja, either, but I'm sticking with them to the (their) end.

Gas here in upstate NY (my neighborhood) is $3.29. Good old NY! I don't get why home fuel prices are not coming down if gasoline prices are.

RBennie said...

I still like Ty & Aja you guys. They have their little tiffs and he says stuff, but never really in a mean spirited way. He usually says things to cajole her out of her tendency to be bossy. I've certainly never seen him get really angry or yell at her like we've seen from past teams.

Anonymous said...

At Least the divorees are moving on up - 3rd place :P. I probably wouldn't be rooting for them if the weren't "my team" either. I haven't latched on to any team so far - they are all kind of eh. So I guess I'll just stick to the evil ones.

Margo

Meb - your kitty post is so cute.

meb said...

Hey Margo... did you try to comment? I think you can now...

Also, I have a dog video up now that is so cute. Received it in an email and just had to post it.

Take a look and tell me what you think!

Thanks everyone who agree that Nick and Starr are OK. I cannot abide the divorcees... Especially the smaller one. She's not a bad looking female, but because of her attitude, she really comes off ugly. Her facial expressions are contorted and I can't stand to watch her. Sorry Sue/Margo.

lynn1 said...

MEB you know that saying easy come easy go? Well that is how it is with my casino winnings. Every time I hit a few hundre dollars it seems something comes up to use that money on. Wouldn't you know it this time is no exception. We discovered this morning that we lost a few shingles off the roof. Guess Gustav and Ike loosened them and the last stormy windy day took them.

Nana I too was surprised I had to be hand paid for $900. I didn't have to fill out any paper work for taxes. Al and I talked about it and decided that it must be easier for them to hand pay for larger amounts than to have to reload cash into the ticket redemption machines. This is the first time I have had to get hand paid for an amount under $1200.

Back to TAR...The 2 teams that I find I don't like are the divorcees and Terence and Sarah. I like Sarah OK but Terence is emotionaly needy and must have constant reaasurance from Sarah. Did you hear him say last night as he was driving, Sarah I need some love, play with my hair. If Sarah wants a living being to be totally dependent on her she ought to get a dog.

meb said...

Lynn1... she ought to get a dog... Touche'. Now you have to go read what I wrote on my post about dogs... that we NEED to be like them... the difference with Terrence is that he wants her to treat him like one (sweet and cuddly), but he doesn't act like one.

meb said...

Oh... did anyone see Palin on SNL... really... the real one... I only saw the clip, but I'll bet it's funny. Sorry ladies, but I like her...I realy like her! (Shades of Sally Fields speech)!

Petals said...

Syd ~ I am soooo jealous and happy for you. Have a fun, special and safe anniversary trip. XOXOXO
PS - I wanna see a pic of real you.

Anonymous said...

I could be mistaken but wasn't this Nick:

A few weeks ago they had a challenge to find a phrase on a concrete wall and most of the teams started writing down all the phrases. Nick told one of the other guys when he was told the right answer he would come back and tell him but instead he just left?? As he was leaving he said to the camera "I'll say and do whatever I have to to get ahead of the other teams".

meb--I did see the Palin thing on SNL. It was very funny. I don't like Alec Baldwin but he was pretty funny, too. I've always thought that if you put yourself out there for public office you better have a good sense of humor and thick skin!

Donna in Alabama said...

Petals, go to Sydney's blog, her pictures and video's are up there.

Lynn1, I won $951.00 in Philadephia, MS a couple years ago and they hand paid me too. I had won almost that much in Tunica, MS and they did not.

Laurie, please be careful while you are in Chicago. Delee and Sydney be safe and have a great time. Are either one of you going to be able to log on and post during your vacation? I hope so.

Someone mentioned buying oil for heating last week. What kind of oil or heat? I only know about electric, coal, natural gas or propane.

I am having a hard time paying attention to TAR so far. I see it but I'm reading emails and Jackie's. Nana, I am still pulling for the frat boys and I'm glad they are still in it.

Gas around the Birmingham area is $2.89.

Hi All,
Hearing about the the big money some of you have won at the casinoa, I thought I would share mine too. I have been to the CAsino in NC that is run by the cherokee indians a couple of times.
I thought I had hit the big time when I won $12.oo!!!! I can't even begin to imagine winning close to a thousand. Then again, I can not imagine spending the amount of money I may have to in order to win $1000.00 lol- guess I am from the old school.
RJM in SC

Anonymous said...

RJM--When we go to the casino we each have $20.00 Sometimes it lasts for a few hours other times I'm done in 20 minutes! Usually if one of us is losing the other is winning. The most I have won is $400.00...playing 27cents a spin on a penney machine...I hit all the "wilds". But it is fun and that's about we spend going to the movies.

pdx--what cute elephants!! I love watching baby animals interact with their mommies.

Just a quick update on Sharon...

I called her husband earlier tonight and learned that Sharon is a "little" better. She's still in the hospital and when well enough, will be moved to a Nursing facility where she'll probably go through physical therapy to get her stronger.

Please continue keeping her in prayer,,, she's still has a lot of recovery to do.

Jennasmom said...

Wow, Lynn1, congrats! Where in Mississippi do you go? We always liked Biloxi, but it is still so sad to go there and see all the damage from Katrina. Most of our favorite places are gone.

MEB, don't apologize! I like Sarah Palin, too. As a matter of fact, we named our new little kitten Sarah.
She looks alot like your avatar.

The last time I checked, this was a place to talk about TAR. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting really tired of these seemingly pointless ramblings! This is not the forum for it and I'm sure this is not something Jackie condones having on her blog. Please be considerate and send your messages directly to whoever you are trying to reach. I don't mean to start any problems Jackie, but I just couldn't take it anymore. I would hate for people to stop checking in here because they don't want to see this stuff!

Caroline said...

I have to agree with Anon 11:27am...this really is getting out of hand as well as getting aggravating.

I'm getting very antsy about these odd and sometimes crude messages. I agree this is not the place for them. We've all tried to be patient and kind, but it's getting out of hand.

I have no idea what Jackie could possibly do about them, though.

Anonymous said...

I am assuming the comments were related to the "ramblings" by a select few. I must confess when I see certain names I just jump beyond their comments.

Is it still OK to go off topic about other things....gambling, baby animals, our vacations, etc.?

I know there are side bars for specific shows but on Jackie's main site is where we tend to talk about whatever...even if it is under a show title.

Jax-let us know if there is somewhere else we should go to just chit-chat.

Donna in Alabama said...

Yeah Laurie, no accidents! Hope you enjoyed your visit to Chicago. Was it business or just fun?

Nana, we have always done off-topic subjects but we make sense. Conversation and mostly complete sentences are the norm for usually. My sons and I nailed the replacement corner boards on my house tonight. Now it's too dark to do anything else to get the house ready for painting Saturday.

Tonight is another CBS night for me. NCIS, The Mentalist and Without a Trace. I guess you all will be watching DWTS results show and blogging elsewhere?

Unknown said...

Well, looks like I missed some excitement today. I could be totally off-base here (it's been known to happen) but I always assumed that Lars was Tom`s and Harold Cheesebuddy and a few other people (the blogs all looked similar), and that there was a medical condition involved there. They often report being in pain, and the clarity seems to come and go. Some days are not good, and sounds like it went to an extreme today.

Anyways, no offense meant, if you're out there, Tom`s! I've enjoyed some of your insights over the years. And I know how much you admire Jackie and Sydney.

Unknown said...

I should add to that, because I always appreciate what Jackie does to keep up the quality of the community here by drawing the line on inappropriate comments. Thanks for that, Jackie! This place is a little protected haven from the internet free-for-all, and I'm sure that's what brings us all back.

joy n said...

This was particularly bad day where racial epithets and threats of death were used. Very uncomfortable to read of such things here.

Unknown said...

Yes, sounds like a bad day indeed. Too much hate and ugliness in the world these days.

Here's something that I found admirable today - a video from a McCain/Palin rally where McCain supporters stood up to some racist people in the crowd. I thought it was great that they were so civil, but firm, that it was unacceptable behavior. They didn't want to be represented that way, and they stood up for themselves.

McCain Supporters Snub Racism

That's my idea of everyday heroes.

Donna in Alabama said...

Thanks, It's good to know people stand up and speak out against such. A co-worker today said he tail-gated his neighbor because he saw an Obama sticker on his vehicle. He is a 31 year old arrogant young man. I do not agree with a lot of things I have heard come out of his mouth. I pose questions to him but will not argue with him.

Laurie said...

Jackie,

What do you think about some of us going off topic on your blog?

It seems to me we come here for the show at hand and then stay to chat until there's a new show.

Is this okay with you or would you rather we moved our chatting somewhere else?

I'm happy doing what you want us to do, but won't let an anonymous person or a casual poster tell me what to do on your blog.

Jackie S. said...

Laurie - I don't mind at all as long as folks aren't bickering ... or that weirdness which happened this morning that I had to delete. I should get into the swing of posting daily again. With some health issues, I've been remiss the past few weeks. But I surely don't mind if y'all gather here.

Good morning all. Well hopefully today will be a better day here than yesterday. Only a few of us seemed to be posting yesterday, but there was some truly bizarre stuff going on here. I was practically biting my tongue off trying not to comment on it, but then I just couldn't take it anymore. Thankfully Jackie jumped in and took care of business! It was not a matter of going off topic - we do that all the time. It got to the point where it was pretty scary. But enough said on that. Today's a new day and I hope everyone has a great one.

Happy Wednesday to all...it's hump day! Thanks Jackie for letting us stay around and chat. I hope you are feeling better.
Since I do not watch DWTS, who left last night? or was that last night?

Hi Donna, Toni Braxton, undeservedly, went home last night on DWTS. I have to say this is not the best season of DWTS for me. I find myself wishing I could see Max & Mel B. on that dance floor again!

Is Cloris that good or does she get popularity or sympathy votes?

RBennie said...

No Donna, Cloris is definitely not good, LOL. But, in all fairness, I guess she moves very well for a woman of 82! It amazes me every time she lifts her leg up - hehehe. It's just that she is no where near the level of the people who remain in the competition and at this point better people are going home because she's still in it.

I think Cloris is still there because of Corky. That man is an amazing choreographer who designs the dances to fit her abilities. If she had another partner, I think she would have been gone in the first week!

I just wish they'd put some duct tape on her mouth so I didn't have to listen to her talk!

Read on AOL celeb news this AM that Julianne Hough was rushed to emergency with stomach pains after the show last night.

What is with this season? It's as if somebody somewhere has a set of dolls and pins.

Joy - It's Marie Osmond! She's still ticked that nobody liked the creepy doll dance she did last season!

Ah yes, the creepy doll dance. I got what she was thinking with her being a doll designer, but that dance was downright wierd and creepy like her make-up. That thought for a dance went terribly wrong. Freestyle is always fun to watch and that was just ODD!

Happy hump day everyone!

Now your making me think about freestyle. When I think about the freestyle dance and this bunch, the only one's I'd be really stoked to see are Lance and Warren's.

Julianne always puts together a fun freestyle dance and Derek/Brooke will probably do well. Brooke's shown that she can handle almost anything he throws at her. I agree Warren and Lance will also do well. Now I'm wishing we were already at the end of the season. Pretty sad...but it says a lot about the talent this year.

RealityTVWorld says that Julianne is back home and resting. She's calling it "just a real bad stomach". The crew tried to tape her going into the ambulance and she asked them not to. Besides the live show, she said they pre-taped her singing two songs off her new album for a future episode. The stomach problem worsened during the long day. She also said she aked the doctor to give her a "note" stating she needed to rest today so she could play hookey from today's rehearsal. Sounds like something I would have pulled. She also mentioned that next week she and Cody do a samba.
