The Amazing Race - 11/02 Show

jackie's tv blog, the amazing race

Oh my, the show is actually starting on time here tonight. That's two weeks in a row. They're spoiling us! While I won't be live-blogging tonight's show per se, I will update this post with important events. Later on tonight or early tomorrow morning, my review of tonight's episode will be up over on TV Squad.

Nick and Starr made it first to the Pit Stop, each won an electric car.
2. Kelly and Christy
3. Toni and Dallas
4. Terence and Sarah
5. Andrew and Dan
6. Ken and Tina -- Still in -- non-Philimination

They will encounter a speed bump in the next leg -- a task only they will have to do.

Sydney said...

Awww.. I thought I was first!

Petals said...

Thank goodness I wasn't first... may end up losing. Or is the first poster curse broken? GO Toni & Dallas!!!

Anonymous said...

Only if I can be second. Looks like Ken is getting tired of Tina (according to the previews)

Sydney said...

Kudos RJM!

Anonymous said...

Okay, I will take #4.

Sydney said...

Hi Petals, Becky!

Anonymous said...

Welcome home Sydney. We missed ya.
And Happy Birthday Petals.
RJM

Sydney said...

oy, divorcees, quit talking about your divorces. What, did they happen the week before you got on the plane to start this?

Petals said...

SYD ~ was it beautiful??

Petals said...

Becky - I think Ken was already tired of Tina, hence the cheating..hehehe (was that bad?)

Sydney said...

Maybe this has been discussed before -- there is something about TIna's looks -- what is it? She looks ---what? A little drag? Really tired? Her eyebrows are overplucked and black with hair that's too bleached but that only adds to something already there.... does anyone know what I'm talking about?

or is it just me, lol?

Sydney said...

'twas beyond beautiful there in Virginia. Have you ever been?

Anonymous said...

Hey, Sydney, Petals and RJM. Happy BD Petals! What day? Mine was the 11th.

Sydney said...

Thanks for the welcome back RJM

Sydney said...

Hey guys, english is the language in India, you'd better be quiet when you are insulting your drivers.

Laurie said...

Hi everyone!

Sydney, I'm not sure of the word either, but she does look a big ragged around the edges. I think she looks very unhappy from the inside and it shows on the outside. In the olden days we would have said she looks "hard".

I'm an honorary member of the Toni and Dallas team so I'm rooting for them tonigh!

Can't they get out and get another cab if they get bad drivers?????

As we say say in the South--Tina looks like she has "been rode hard and put up wet"

Sydney said... Maybe this has been discussed before -- there is something about TIna's looks -- what is it? She looks ---what? A little drag?

She looks old. Yep, fireworks are firing.

Petals said... Becky - I think Ken was already tired of Tina, hence the cheating..hehehe (was that bad?)

Nah, not bad.

Petals said...

Laurie - our team has been doing really well! Go Toni & Dallas! Dallas, stay away from Starr! Nick & Starr continue to get "closer"...eeewwwwwwww.

Petals said...

Divorcees - we get it already! Your team name is "the Divorcees", OK? Pretty soon, CBS will change your team name to "The Bitter Ones".

Petals said...

Dallas, no! Starr doesn't seem like a good girl to hook up with. You didn't get the proper shots at customs!

Anonymous said...

Laurie said... Hi everyone!
I'm an honorary member of the Toni and Dallas team so I'm rooting for them tonigh!

I am pulling for the Mom and Son too.

I think the unhappy comment about Tina hits the nail on the head.

Terrance is a big donkey rear.

Unknown said...

Maybe Ken and Sarah should dump the control freaks and pair up?

Aww, I love guys that treat their moms good! Go Dallas and Toni!

RBennie said...

I really hope Sarah dumps this jerk after the race is over.

Sydney said...

Did no one tell them that everyone speaks English in India!?!?!??!? You may also pseak hindi etc. but especially in Delhi and Mumbai they don't need to be running around shouting ENGLISH? ENGLISH?

Sydney said...

Hating Terrance tight now. They are my team, tho.

He's trying to be gentler -- she's so patient with him, she deserves a medal.

RBennie said...

Awe come on, I can't get knocked out of Survivor and TAR in the same week.

Sydney said...

Clem, I'm totally down with that suggestion!

Sydney said...

wow, the money challenge is complicated

Sydney said...

In reading the clue you'd think laundering clothes might be really hard or unusual?

Didn't the indian guy who they met on the carpet (to get their next clue) look like a nutcracker when he stood all stiff there?

Sydney said...

hang in there rbennie, we never know what can happen on this show. The laundry should be easy. SHOULD

Sydney said...

RBennie, I take it back. The laundering money is going to be hard and our guys picked it. Maybe they will rock at it though

Sydney said...

don't burn your bare legs and arms bikini divorcees.

Sydney said...

Note to self -- have gloves with you!

Sydney said...

my god, I'm blogging with myself! lol

Sydney said...

I've got it -- Tina looks like one of the hard fraus in lederhosen and garters in the band in the movie CABARET!!!!!!

Dede dele de leeee two ladies! sing with me!

Petals said...

I'm here, Syd, but flipping back & forth to THe Howling.... a desperate attempt to hang onto Halloween.

RBennie said...

This is absolutely nerve wracking! Find the damn groom already, LOL.

Petals said...

Syd, how many Red Bulls have you had? hehe

Sydney said...

Hey -- I did a Halloween post on my blog this morning, the New yorker one, so I'm with ya on that. It's just about my favorite holiday too.

RBennie said...

Question - did Terence & Sarah have to leave the pit stop 30 minutes later or will they add 30 minutes to the time they arrive at this pit stop?

Donna in Alabama said...

Well, my frat boys are being babies now. Just iron it.

RBennie said...

Question - did Terence & Sarah have to leave the pit stop 30 minutes later or will they add 30 minutes to the time they arrive at this pit stop?

Petals said...

Oh no... the divorcees will rag about their exes during this challenge

RBennie said...

If that's the case, I think they are doomed. Poor frat boys can't catch a break can they. Mommas should have taught them how to iron.

Laurie said...

I've got it -- Tina looks like one of the hard fraus in lederhosen and garters in the band in the movie CABARET!!!!!!

OMG Sydney, you've got it! I'm now singing along.

The show starts here in a couple of hours. I'm logging off now so I don't see who wins. Oh yeah, and also to serve up dinner and all the home stuff.

Petals said...

Sarah seems like she'd been cool, away from Terrence. He's wound very tight. Not my type.

Sydney said...

look for the woman in a red and gold sari -- that's the bride! We wear white but isn't red fab-o?

Petals said...

I think I think Tina resembles Pam Anderson without makeup. I mean, when Pam is photographed sans makeup & hair, she looks like Tina looks now? Yes?

Sydney said...

Rbennie -- we're #4 - thought there was a 30 minute penalty though......

Petals said...

GO TONI & DALLAS!

Sydney said...

jeepers tina, just sit on his lap already it's a RACE

Sydney said...

Look, she;'s just over him, you don;'t treat someone you believe in like that.

RBennie said...

Well they are team 4 so I guess that means the time was tacked on at the beginning of this leg and not the end.

Donna in Alabama said...

Nana we are still in it!

Petals said...

Sydney - Pam Anderson? Tina?

Anonymous said...

Did they ever issue the penalty to the ones who got the speeding ticket.

Petals said...

OH! I have a Halloween joke!
What do you get if you goose a ghost?

a handful of SHEET!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anonymous said...

I hope Ken and Tina don't make that comeback.

RBennie said...

Yay Sydney our guys did it! I hate Terence, but I really want Sarah to win. She's a saint for putting up with him. Wow Ken & Tina got lucky didn't they? Too bad they used up their fast forward, it might have come in handy now.

Sydney said...

darn, I missed it -- what made Ken tear up? someone please tell me

Petals said...

Ga-ROSS! Get off each other or get a room!

Donna in Alabama said...

I didn't hear anything about the penalty tonight...did anyone else. Poor Kenny!! He doesn't want to lose his wife.

Petals said...

Syd, I didn't see Ken tear up. If he did, s'probably from being emasculated again by that harpy!

Sydney said...

becky -- I guess they forgot all about the penalty for the ticket -- unless they made them start 30 minutes late?

And Petals, I figured out what it was about Tina and wrote it a few posts back... but yes, I see Pam Anderson in her too -- the hight forehead, the white blonde hair the plucked brows but that girl needs a bit of Pammy's party attitude.

Sydney said...

NEXT DEXTER on showtime!!!!!! AND then Ture Blood!

Jackie S. said...

Becky - They started out thirty minutes later.

Donna in Alabama said...

Ken thinks if they lose TAR, they HAVE divorce and he seems very upset at the thought of that.

Next week, the tasks are hard for the pretty girls...their faces get painted...ha

Sydney said...

Yay Jackie!!!!!!!!!!!!! are you feeling Ok-ish today? Hope the weekend brought you some rest, after the first week back. I was able to read your posts from my iphone while I was away, so I could keep up a little.

Donna in Alabama said...

Thanks Jackie, I missed that!

RBennie said...

That 30 minutes had to be tacked on to the start of the leg. I thought they started much later than they should have. Didn't they come in 3rd on the last leg, but left 5th on this one?

Petals said...

Frat boy reminds me of Seth Rogan.

joy n said...

Yes, Terence and Sarah got their penalty at the beginning of the race. Instead of 3rd place they left fifth at 12:05 AM. Only Andrew and Dan left after them at 12:29 AM

Sydney said...

totally Petals. Could be his twin!

Unknown said...

Aww, touching moment between Ken and Tina at the end. Now I'll have to hope they stay together, cause that was the first time I saw them have an actual moment of empathy with each other.

Syd, Ken was just talking about how he didn't want the race to end and how this means more to them than just a race (inferring their relationhip possibly ending, I guess).

****

I was reading an article about Margaretta from the Season 1 of TAR passing away after a 3 year battle with cancer. For anyone who watched the first season, she and her husband Dave were the "grandparents." Here's the video of them being philiminated:

Dave & Margaretta

RIP, Margaretta! They were a great couple.

Petals said...

I wonder if Ken's reluctance to divorce has anything to do with a massive $$$$ loss, rather than the loss of Tina. He played pro ball, right? Kids, too. Prolly didn't do a prenup. Cheaper to keeper.

RBennie said...

I'm moving on to something really trashy now - Rock of Love Charm School. I know, I know, I should be ashamed of myself, LOL.

Petals said...

Granny from Beverly Hillbillies! Tina looks like Irene Ryan!

Petals said...

Rbennie - I am right there in the guilty pleasure boat with you, sister! ROL Charm School w/Queen Sharon.
Do you watch Celebrity Rehab? Now that's a train wreck!

Jackie S. said...

Welcome back Sydney! As for me ... way exhausted this week. Some pain and swelling issues, but exhaustion has been my main roadblock.

Petals said...

Sorry Jackie, that you're so fatigued. THat's your body's way of healing, tho, right? Take care of yourself!

joy n said...

I think Dallas and Starr would make a cute couple. Those are some Hollywood names, aren't they?

Ken and Tina made it by the skin of their teeth this time. They shouldn't have wasted that FF a couple of weeks ago, by using it when they didn't even need to.

Since my team is gone, I'm rooting for Nick and Starr or Dallas and Toni.

I don't think the klutzes, Andrew and Dan, have much of a shot although miracles do happen.

If Ken and Sarah were together, I'd half-heartedly root for them, but I'm so tired of Tina's and Terrence's whining and nagging that I'd be disappointed if they won.

Kelly and Christy are just a pain in the butt the way they always put everyone around them down. And all the while, convincing themselves of how smart they are supposed to be. Give me a break.

lynn1 said...

meb, our team did great tonight. They don't seem to be to popular with our blog buddies but I think they are just competitive.
Go Nick and Starr.

joy n said...

Clementine, I remember those two. They were a very sweet couple. God rest her soul.

Phil looked so young.

meb said...

I know Lynn1...and I just don't get it. They aren't mean or anything, but that's ok... they came in first. And FINALLY, won something other than a trip.

I like Toni and Dalls too, but our team is cute and fun to watch and they aren't fighting... that's a plus.

Welcome back Sydney.. missed you!

Anonymous said...

Haven't see the show yet, but at least I know all the little things to watch for.

donna in al- Glad our frat boys are stilling hanging in. Sounds like it's really more by luck than skill and strategic play.

Sydney--WELCOME BACK!! You were missed! I'm going to catch up on your blog.

Jackie--swelling and pain??? Doesn't sound like a very fun weekend for you. Hopefully this week will be a little easier on your body.

petals--Happy belated BD! What a fun holiday to have a BD.

Time to get the dishes done before the show starts.

joy n said...

I like Nick and Starr and never really understood why others don't. I think they're playing a very good game.

Laurie said...

watching the show now. Sarah should have turned around and spray painted Terence. That would have shut him up. Ken should have done the same thing to Tina. I would never ever be with someone who talked to me like that. Sarah should run, run, run as fast as she can when they finish this race.

Jennasmom said...

Laurie,
LOL That's what I was thinking - turn around spray him! Terrence & Tina, now that would be a pair!

Well, I have to cheer Tina on - she's my team. Karen, we are still hanging on!

Anonymous said...

Im with all of you....spray Terrance and than run the other way!! That boy is way too ??????....I don't know!!!

Ken may have had tears in trying to express how important this is to his marriage but I don't see any hope for things to work out. Tina is very controlling and I think she will make him "pay" for cheating on her for the rest of his life.

My hubby was watching the frat boys ironing and said "who are they...dumb and dumber?" I laughed and said "Yeah, pretty much"! They got through painting the car and then couldn't figure out where to get a taxi.

The divorcees need to get over themselves! They are annoying.

My favs. are Nick/Starr and Toni/Dallas. They both have been respectful to their teammate and equally done the roadblocks.

Off to bed....a new week!

Sydney said...

I think Terrance is very anxious and doesn't know any other way to deal with it. Sarah has a tolerance for that, as she had a total right to snap at him and she usually keeps her head beyond any human capacity while replying with calm statements like, that really isn't helping right now" I admire that. He did try to hear her and they DID put in a few times after that that he encouraged her, albeit anxiously. There has to be a reason she is with him...

Anonymous said...

Yep! Sydney is back....the voice of reason and logic. LOL
Thanks for giving us something to consider. Being a member of the DOL(dirty old ladies) club I went a different direction.....maybe he's just really good in "other" aspects of their relationship! LOL
Whatever the reason something keeps them together. Although they are the "newly dating" couple so this could be a new side of him that Sarah hadn't really seen. She certainly has more patience than me!

It's a rainy, gloomy day here in Tacoma. I have lots of projects to do but would have loved to stay in my jammies all day.

Anonymous said...

My team at least read the clues right last night. Woo Hoo #2.
You know what they say the nice guy finishes last so I'm gonna WIN!
Go Divorcees.

(Sorry gotta do it - just the luck of the draw)

Margo

Laurie said...

Nana, I went right there with you. Visions of bananas were in my head! My guess is that this is one of those relationships that could work because they both need something from the other, not in a healthy way but in a way that works for them.

I agree that Tina will not forgive. That's part of what is coming out in her face, the down-turned mouth and the tired look. Did you notice how her whole face changed when she laughed at the end? She lit up like a Christmas tree and was suddenly attractive. I'm not saying she should forgive and forget, but I hope she finds a way to get rid of that bitterness and lets go of the uglies inside.

No I'm not a therapist ... lol!

RBennie said...

Good morning all. Hey Sydney - I liked your viewpoint of our team. Yes, our Terence is indeed high strung (to say the least) and Sarah handles him surprisingly well. He would be weeping uncontrollably in a corner by the time I got through with him, LOL. Thank goodness that 30 minute penalty didn't hurt them any. I think Ken and Tina will be in real trouble next week unless some other team screws up royally! As much as I don't like the Divorcees, (did you all know they were divorced?) I must say they impressed me - second place. They don't play with others well, but they work together well as a team.

Anonymous said...

I really don't like the divorcees either - I just wish they would stop making comments re their exes and just move on. It must have been a very bitter divorce. Let...it...go...already...

I thought Nick and Star did well, they are very calm. Terrence is another story, but I like everybody's comments re him. heehee Tina really reads the clues ahead of time, she is another one that needs to get the chip off her shoulder and just see where it takes her and Ken. I still cheer them on since I have to, but ...

I have a house full of boys - and they all know how to iron! My husband made the comment last night that he would do real well at that challenge, since he does my ironing as well. ha!

Have a great day - and vote tomorrow -- Karen

Anonymous said...

The biggest problem I have with Terrence & Sarah is how she explains his outbursts. She's constantly saying things like "I shouldn't have said that" or "It was my fault". I wonder if she was in an abusive relationship in the past (father, mother, boyfriend, etc) because she's a classic example of a person who rationalizes her abuser's behavior.

And no, I'm not a therapist either :-)

Being from California and knowing your blog is from New York. I am very surprised to see the banner advertisement on your website that says vote yes on prop. 8
Jackie are you aware of this and are you aware of what this is all about.
I am a huge advocate for voting no on prop 8 as it takes away human rights from citizens of California.
You seem like such a tolerant person who cares about everyone. How can you allow this on your site??? Jackie please check into this. Thank you from a long time supporter of your blog.

Off topic news: Us Weekly has a report that reads; DeAnna Pappas called off her engagement to Jesse Csincsak. Jesse made a statement on their website that partially reads, "I'm sorry. I did everything in my power to make this work. DeAnna broke up with me two days ago."

"She's a great person, but she wasn't willing to try anymore. She wanted something different. The answer I got was 'I love you, but I'm not in love with you.'

I had strong doubts about these two from the beginning, mostly because I believe the girl has some serious issues. I feel badly for Jesse because he and his family seemed so nice and normal. She did not strike me the same way at all.

Jesse and all the other guys that "got away" should count their blessings. P.S. He STILL loves her.

joy n said...

I think that when ABC didn't come up with the big wedding plans ala Trista's, along with all the coverage they got, DeAnna lost most of her interest.

Welcome back! I quickly read about your trip on your blog. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. We missed you and needed our stylist's comments.

Tina looks hard and old for so many reasons...her over-bleached hair...too long and droopy for her age...over tweezed brows with hard lined brow pencil...too black hard eyeliner...sparkly shiny foundation and blush...harsh too bright lipstick which emphasizes the lines around her mouth... and that's just on the outside. LOL

Spot on!!!!!!!!!!!! Sarah needs to run from Terrence. Or, they could try therapy.

Off Topic...

Deanna and Jesse have split. It lasted longer than I thought it would. Here's a video clip:

((((Jackie))))

I'm sorry you're having a struggle getting back into the pace of a work week. Sure hope your stamina and energy return asap. Please try not to do more than you can handle physically.

Forgot to thank you for the Mad Men forum link a few posts back. I haven't had time to check it out yet but hopefully I will soon.

Take care all!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, PETALS!!!!!!!!

On RTVW, Deanna says that after their engagement, she slowly came to realize that they were two different people and it wasn't going to work out. She says she still believes in love and "more than anything" wants to find someone she can spend the rest of her life with. She plans to give the engagement ring to charity.

And if you believe that one, I've got a bridge in NYC to sell you.

You can see Jesse's statement on their website:

deannaandjesse.com.

It's very sad. He's taking this kind of hard.

Anonymous said...

I feel badly for Jesse, that certainly is no surprise. Everything she talked about looking for in a man he wasn't....other than devoted to her every need. She said she didn't want to leave Atlanta and if I remember my geography there are too many mountains in Georgia...and Jesse is a pro snowboarder!

Oops.....Zoetawny you really are the voice of reason and logic(arent you a phycologist?)sp. Sydney just posted her comments first.

Becky--I tend to talk/type without thinking. I knew I wouldn't offend anyone and that some would be thinking the same thing!

orkmommy--I totally agree with your theory. The victim is always making excuses and taking the blame.

Jackie--hope today was better for you :-)

Off to check out DWTS

That should have read "there are NOT too many mountains in Georgia".

I LOVE that we are all (well, many of us) have minds in the gut-t-ah!. What a pretty gutter it is! I have to admit, I totally DIDN'T think of sex this time.. what the H#ll is wrong with me?

Also, thx for the news about Jesse and Deanna.

And Zoe, I haven't really written up the trip per se on the blog yet, but I will get to it elements of it, You saw the halloweenie stuff, which I feel like I missed being gone. THanks for reading it!

We saw such wonderful foliage -- we actually had the good fortune to hit it at it's peak. It was so heavenly to be in the fall air, I do miss that so much. Both of us had a really positive response to Virginia -- We landed in Charlottesville and drove all through the Shennandoah Valley from Lexington up through New Market and atop and over the Blue Ridge Mountains to D.C., then back through many towns including Fredericksburg on our way back to C-ville. There was so much civil war and political history, and wonderful cross of farms and rolling hills and colonial architecture. Lots of schools, which means young ideas and activities, and the curving roads, rolling hills and dales, horses, many ponds with Canadian geese stopping en route on them, creeks along the roads, cows, sheep... something for every sense.

It was great to stop in D.C and read Lincoln's words on the far wall of his monument. On the eve of our election, his second inagural address seemed so fitting for our present day circumstances. I will put that on my blog called "Looky Here" if you all care to take a moment to read it.

joy n said...

Sydney, it sounds like you and yours had a wonderful time and traveled at an excellent time of the year. Can't wait to read your blog when you get it all down.

GO VOTE!

Sydney said...

I DID!

Anonymous said...

I voted by Absentee Ballot. My husband completed his last week and then looked at me and said, "Well, I'm done with that one now where's yours?"! It's a running joke in our house that we usually cancel each other out...but isn't it great to live in a country that we can do that!?!

Shhhh...don't tell anyone that I'm here. I'm running behind schedule and should be at my daughter's house but I had to get my morning fix before I left! :-)

It's pouring rain here, the leaves are beautiful, the streets a mess from the wind, and gas is $2.23!
Have a great day will check in later this morning.

Sydney said...

Cute Google Logo today...

And have seen gas here for as low as $2.15, was as low as $2.29 in Virginia

Laurie said...

Nana, my husband and I vote absentee and often cancel each other out. This time we are on the same political page, which is nice.

I find it ironic that it's raining in southern California today and that could keep some voters home.

This is our first rain in months all the way down in San Diego.
We tend to come to a sudden halt when the streets get wet. Actually, a crashing halt since the oily streets get so slippery with the first real rain.

People from areas where it rains more just laugh and laugh at us when it rains ... If there's more than an inch it becomes a STORM!

OFF TOPIC:

My girlfriend was axed from The (newest) Bachelor. She left 10/13 to begin filming, and returned thsi past weekend, which means she prolly only lasted thru the 2nd round of cuts. I can't wait to pick her brain, but may not get alot of good dirt because of the confidentiality agreement, etc.

I'll fill you guys in if I get good dirt. Darn, tho - I really thought she'd last longer. And she'd bought so many new outfits!

HAPPY ELECTION DAY!

Sydney said...

Wow Laurie - I remember that from when I lived in CA. Being from teh midwest I was astonished at how people dealt with CLOUDY days, lol! I sure hope that folks make the effort to get out and vote. The other things that kill west coast voting is that the damn newscasters say it's a done deal from what's happening in the midwest to the east and lots of people think, why bother if it's done and don't get out to vote. Hopefully not this year! Too important!

PETALS -- I am SO primed and waiting for whatever your friend has to say!!!!!

joy n said...

A report on EXTRA about the DeAnna fiasco has Jesse saying he wonders if she ever really loved him or was just enamored of the Bachelorette publicity. What bothers him the most is that the only time she kissed him or held him was in front of the cameras. (Maybe that should have been a clue?) She told him about the breakup as he unloaded her luggage from the plane after she landed in Colorado for a "visit". Jesse says he now envies Jason for being turned down by DeAnna.

He also says DeAnna has serious plans to move to L.A.

Sounds like the girl is salivating for more than her allotted 15 minutes. Doesn't surprise me a bit.

Live and learn, Jesse.

We, daughter, grandson, granddaughter and myself, got out to vote. I tried to vote earlier but the lines were like 200 people in front of you. Who would stand in lines like that. Today, we walked right in and voted. Took 5 minutes. We figure with the four of us at the same time, the family that votes together...ehhh votes together.

My grandson said that my granddaughter who was in the booth next to his,(first time voteing for both of them) called out "Eewww this is too much like a test at school, it's making me nervous". Then she leaned around to her brother and started copying him and said "I'm so glad you're here". (We already knew who we were voting for.) We were hysterical tho laughing and everybody was looking at us. One of the "helpers' came around and asked if we were family. Too funny. Can you imagine being thrown out of a polling place.

Sydney, haven't gotten over to read your post yet. Going after I finish here.

joyn...thanks for the info on Jesse and DeAnna... she was an idiot for choosing him... we all knew she didn't love him. I feel bad for the guy.

meb, I am so glad you posted your family time at the polls story! I always like to hear what you have to say, you (and it sounds like your family, too) have great attitudes toward life.

I try to know what to do before I get to the ballot, but am always surprised by something. My least favorite are those bills that you vote 'for' if you vote 'no' and 'against' if you are for it. Those always have me confused. In Arkansas, we are voting on a lottery and on whether to allow non married couple to be foster parents. And a few other topics. Sue

The big issues in Wa. state is the Death With Dignity law and our Governors race. The same two people are running for Gov. as 4 yrs. ago. The race was so close it came down to absentee ballots and they say the same is going to happen this year!

It finally stopped raining but now we are having some urban flooding. For you Southern Cali. people...urban flooding happens because our storm drains are clogged with leaves and then then rain has nowhere to go. The media is asking people to please go out and clear the leaves away from any drains near their house. More rain is coming tonight and continueing for the next few days.

meb--that was a funny voting story. Did your granddaughter make up her mind(on how to vote) or was there some persausion from the "elders" in the family?

I'm excited for the Bachelor to air. It seems to me that he has alot more at stake. Not only is he looking for a mate but also a future step-mom for his son.

I guess I can't avoid Election coverage any longer....off to check out what's happening.

On my way to vote today, I was struck by the obvious...

By the end of the night, we will either have the FIRST African-American President or the FIRST woman Vice-President!! WOW!!!

Lest you think me incredibly dense, this did not come as a surprise to me... just needed to remind myself, how incredibly AWESOME and historic this vote is!

I love my country! What a great day for the USA and what a privilege to be a part of it :)))

Happy Election Day, everybody!

meb said...

Thanks Sue... we didn't have any bills to vote for this year. That's sort of strange, don't you think? And, we voted by marking our ballots by pen, filling in the oval. Well, at least there won't be any chads to concern us with.

I turned it over and over, wondering where the questions might be, but there were none.

nana in the nw.. no, we all knew how we were voting, and of course, I'm sure we had some affect on their vote, simply because we do discuss the pros and cons.

I'm not too concerned this year in who gets elected. I believe it'll be an historic 4 years, no matter who the Commander in Chief will be. Change is inevitable no matter what, and I can't wait to see it all unfold.

Clementine.. I thought about that today as well. Amazing night ahead... Can't wait for the results to start coming in.

I went to the internet to find a sample ballot for our county and printed it last week. One of my sons had never voted before and I didn't want him or any of us confused or not knowing what we were voting on. We had several statewide amendments that only effected other counties. If it did not effect my county, I did not vote on it.

Our county is a "dry" county and for the first time since 1980 we are voting for alchol sales. The nearest store for us to buy alchol is 13 miles!

My sons could not wait until I got home for us all to go vote. It didn't take but 10 minutes for me to vote!!

Well, if anyone is going to be glued to CNN tonight, and we behave ourselves, which I know we will do, I'm wondering if anyone wants to join me in making some comments as the night goes on.

We did fine live blogging the debates! We don't have to get political, but this is like the season finale isn't it?????

The polls have officially closed right this second in the East. They say that if Virginia and Pennsylvania go with McCain, then it will be a long night, battling it out as the polls close across the country.

Next they would look at Ohio and Indiana I think, for midwest times

Then Colordao, and Nevada, considered the final battle grounds.

Will the pink and periwinkle states on their magic map turn red or blue? The race is pretty close --I think McCain may have closed last weeks gap more than we think in reality and newither camp gave up pounding the pavement til last night. Suspense abounds! The fate of a nation hangs in the balance!

Just want to know what my Jackie's blog pals think as we all bite our nails this evening! :-)

Syd, you know we're reality tv addicts, when we refer to election night as the season finale! You're right, that's exactly how it feels!

I'll sure be here watching the results, but not a big fan of CNN, so will probably be cruising with my remote. Hmmm.. who's the cutest anchor... Brian Williams, anyone? :)

I really should have grabbed a nap earlier, cause I want to make it to the finish line.

Wow, did anyone see that -- they just beamed a hologram of a reporter (jessica Yellin) into the CNN newsroom from where she is in Chicago. It was pretty much what happened with Princess Lea. THE FUTURE HAS ARRIVED people!

Clem, loved your comment. Well said!

Petals -I'm thinking of ya.

Dla -- your state has had so much going on in the last 2 weeks! Big night for Nevada.

And Terry in CA -- I missed your b-day and you are a little under the weather. So sorry on both counts. Feel better... more excuses to eat ice cream!

Because we are talking elections and watching till the end here is a funny story about my hubby:

When he was about 18(50 yrs. ago) he stayed up most of the night watching the results. This was when results were tabulated on paper or wipe-off boards.
About 4 a.m. his mom heard him up and went to see what was going on. He had the sheet off his bed, laid it across the dining room table and was writing names and states on it!! His mom just went back to bed. He never woke up and in the morning thought his dad had written on the sheet. LOL

I'll be checking in throughout the night, although most will be over by 8p.m. for us west coasters.

Donna in Alabama said...

I actually rented a couple of movies to watch and the boys have gone to pick up a pizza. No delivery out in the country!
I will check in occasionally to see who is ahead. If you guys are going to blog the finale, I'll pop in here for your take.

My WV is headdi, it looks funny!

Sydney said...

Clem, if you find someone good to watch, let me know. I'm bound to switch around. And while I was referring to your previous comment about history being made and patriotism, I didn't see you'd written another.

I think they will be doing the princess lea all thru the night so she can be caught again at some point if anyone's interested. Obviously they invested in the technology to do this because she is stationed in Chicago where, win or lose, Obama will make his speech.

She said she is in a tent with something like 36 HD cameras capturing her image 360 degrees, then thos ecameras talk to the cameras in the CNN studio in Atlanta and somehow they know to project her as a full "3-D" body (they show her front and back -- um, why?).

Clem, we can see staying up til the end as an endurance comp. I have a feeling you can take a little nap somewhere in the middle while they think they have the numbers but the West coast polls haven't even weighed in (hate that). Alaska's polls close at 1 AM EST!

Sydney said...

Yay -- Donna and Nana are checking in! Who will be next to say hello?

meb, here in Arkansas we had our choice of an electronic voting machine (there was a line waiting to use them) or the paper ballot where you fill in the oval like on school tests. No line there, so it was an easy choice for me. But, I have to say I trust the paper and pencil ones the most. I think the voters have done their thing admirably, but I am concerned about how the counting will go. I will be watching and am leaving the keyboard for a little bit, Sydney, to go check out the Star Wars projection campaign. Sue

I'm in Sydney... Don't know how long I'll last. Got up early this am to work at Club and need to do the same tomorrow. Also on my chemo pump and need to go in tomorrow to have that removed... but I so want to stay up for the finale'.

Unknown said...

Syd, I'm flipping between Brian Williams and ABC (cause I love Cokie Roberts). And I miss Peter Jennings.

In the States that have been called, Obama is taking 96% of the African-American vote and also winning the vote of white women (which nobody was able to call one way or the other beforehand).

Sydney said...

OK, NBC opened it's news by DECLARING Obama or McCain had X Y and Z states while showing a o% counted... I mean, I thought the anchors had learned their lessons and weren't going to delcare states before the votes are counted, hello.

There are a million polling organizations out there and they all make these projections with no mention of how many people they asked and when and where. It's totally irresponsible, as some folks who have not yet voted decide not to hearing all that gibberish.

CNN did say they are not going to call anything til the votes are in -- prolly cuz it's so close.

Sydney said...

Zoe -- I was just thinking that -- how totally sad it is that Obama's grandmother could not live another day to see the outcome. And what a double edge to this day for him... such a loss just before the most important day of his life.

However, maybe she has a job to do for the election from the spirit world!

MEB! Hi there. Boy, you are a trooper. SO you are still not feeling any cumulative effects of the chemo? If not, do you feel at all yucky on or after the days you are getting it? Hope not.

Hey Sue!

I love Cokie Roberts too Clementine! Admire her a lot.

meb said...

Hey Syd... nope, no affects whatsoever. I'm feeling great! No yuckys. My blood counts remain high so I don't have to have that last shot after chemo which you get if your blood counts are low to build them back up. It's also the part of the chemo I understand that can make you sick. It's a $5,000 shot. Can you imagine! I sit and look at all the people sitting in those recliners like me who are probably getting that shot. In my doctor's oncology area he must have 20 recliners, all full, and when they empty another person comes in to fill it. They work in there from 8 til 7 at night... you do the math.

One of my shots is $9600 which I get every time I go. Everybody else gets that shot too, and I forget what its called but I think it's for the nausea. The costs of medical care is rediculous. Needless to say I can't even afford to pay my co-pays so fortunately there are foundations out there who will pay them for you if you can't. I qualify thank God!

I agree with you re the early projections which causes some people to not go vote. It's a toss up and every vote will count... those states that haven't closed yet... PEOPLE GO AND VOTE!

Hmmmmm.. do you think they heard me?

My wv veddledi... sounds like fiddle-dee-dee. Well I added the last dee.

I've been saying the same thing about all these polls. It's not over until the fat lady sings. I caught a bit of "The View" this morning and Whoopi explained where that phrase came from...Kate Smith...a popular singer in my Dad's day.

Whoever our next president is, he will have so many negatives to overcome.

Pennsylvania just went to Obama. I'm not sure why but this is a "key" state to winnning this election.

Sorry that the West Coast is delaying any real election results.

I flip around, but keep going back to CNN because they said they wouldn't call a state until they knew for certain. I wonder if Obama's grandmother was well enough in the last weeks to cast an early vote?

I agree about either team winning will have a tough time ahead and we the voters are going to expect them to keep their campaign promises!

That Chicago party looks huge...and fun.

We have a no alcohol county here, too. Every once in a while, they try to change it, but so far the voters have kept it dry. No one has any trouble getting anything they want to drink, but it can't be sold or served in resturants.

Zoe -- I think Penn is key because it holds so many electoral votes, which is ultimately how the win is decided. I'm not sure about this system when at times the candidate who wins the popular vote does not win the election due to those electoral numbers, but again, it's something I still don't know enough about.

Thanks for the update about your stepson. It is so sad that so many young people are battling this. Every situation is different, but I know several people who had bone marrow treatment for lymphoma and have completely recovered and are living long lives today, many years after the fact... and they know even more about it now. We discussed the different measures and initiatives, as well as the candidates, and actually agreed on everything!

I am going to bed, we will find out who the president is in the morning. I was watching the news, all different channels, and they aare calling states with less than 10% of precincts reporting. Off topic: (well off the election topic, and way off the TAR post topic)

For everyone feeling bad for Jesse getting dumped by Deanna, here's the video he posted to announce the break-up on YouTube:

Breakup

Seriously, who posts a video announcement of the their breakup (2 days later!) on YouTube? Why do all of the reality show "stars" think people are obsessed with their lives forever? (We're not, are we?)

Anyway, this just amused me, and I'm not feeling much sympathy for him. As my family would say, "Get a life!" LOL

Unknown said...

OMG, and Jesse's YouTube site is the #11 Most Visited Today! Really?? So, then I had to go to their website -

And their ?publicist? (or maybe Jesse himself) is keeping it updated with all the news stories about "The Breakup"!

Really???!!!

I have a bad feeling that it's people like me that keep people like this thinking that they are "stars". Hello, my name is Clementine, and I am a reality tv show addict, LOL!!

And now back to your regularly scheduled election coverage :)

meb said...

Hey Zoe... I agree with Sydney that with everything they are doing in the medical field, we can use your adage, that it ain't over until the fat lady sings, and I'm talking about your step-son. Miracles happen! I knew that about Kate Smith, but had forgotten it.

I have to agree with CNN's coverage as to even giving McCain all the states that he might win, without Calif, Oregon and Washington State, there's no way he can win.

As to the electoral votes vs popular vote, I've always hated the way this works, but... Sydney, as you know the 270 is the magic #. The total electoral votes needed to win... you can win most of the popular vote, but if the electoral votes of those states you've won don't add up to the 270 and the other candidate wins less popular votes, but wins the 270 electoral votes needed, then regardless of the popular vote, he wins the election. Bummer, but true. It's as simple as that. I think. Anybody...is the correct?

Where's joyn??? She'd know how it works.

meb said...

typo... anybody, is this correct?

And I forgot to mention Elizabeth Dole... I cannot believe she took such a cheap shot at Kay Hagan. I think she was at least in the running to win until she did that. You have to ask yourself how many $$ did she get from people she didn't know who could also have been godless people. Politics gets too nasty for me and I'm so glad these ads will be over now. I'm sick of them.

Gayle said...

Sydney, we know (Chicago) that all of the votes haven't been counted yet, but from what's left to be counted, that it is very unlikely that Sen. McCain can get the 270 electoral votes needed too become President. Sen. Obama has 206 electoral votes to Sen. McCain's 135.

Sen. Obama is at home now. There is a big party at the neighborhood bar that a lot of Hyde Parkers frequent. A lot of U. of Chicago teachers and students also frequent this bar. I just heard the reporter on CBS say that Sen. Obama had just left his home enroute to the big celebration downtown at Grant Park. There is also going to be a big party at the Hyatt Regency AFTER the HUGE celebration at Grant Park later on tonight.

Unknown said...

Here's an explanation of the US Electoral College. I got about one paragraph in before I gave up. Why does this need to be so complicated?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Electoral_College

But I did learn that the number of Electors (and electoral votes) is equal to the number in Congress (Senators and Representatives) for each State.

And while each State has only 2 Senators, they have a number of Representatives proportional to the population. So the electoral college votes would be somewhat distributed by density of population.

States like PA (21 electoral votes) and OH (20 electoral votes) and FL (27 electoral votes) are the battleground States that don't always go Rep or Dem consistently and have large number of Electoral votes to help a candidate get to the magic number of 270.

Unknown said...

Obama has 207 and he will definitely win CA, which will add another 55 for a total of 262. He would only need 8 more electoral votes from all the West Coast states.

Unknown said...

And if Obama gets FL, that would push him way over!

meb said...

And with that said Clementine, I'm going to bed. Good luck to Obama and to the future of this wonderful nation of ours. I'm eagerly awaiting the changes that will be coming. I hope they will all be for the best.

I still hope Bush puts thru that second stimulus check before he's gone. Smile and goodnight!

Anonymous said...

Can't remember who asked about Obama's grandmother voting.....ABC did a blurp on it and said she had been able to do early voting so her vote will count!

Here in my county we have a new ballot called "Ranked Choice" and also the normal ballot. Because many people didn't realize they had 2 ballots to complete the lines have been very long at our polling places. The media says that many places still have a 2 hr. wait to vote. If you are in line at 8p.m. your vote will count. Of course, that means we won't know much until the morning. Our governors race last time was decided by 113 votes!

Zoe--so sorry to hear about your stepson's struggles....sometimes life really isn't fair. Just keep thinking positive.

I'm usually not home in the a.m. but have programmed the DVR to watch The View tomorrow!

Watching an interview with Oprah. She really has strong feelings about Obama. Says she is not responsible for his success but, coming out in support of him sure helped. The crowd at Grant Park is HUGE!!!

The republicans are getting crushed in the house and senate....

It must be frustrating to be in a State where the results aren't even confirmed before a winner is declared.

Obama was so composed. He looked like he was in shock.

I didn't like Michelle's dress. She usually wears things flattering this red/black dress wasn't it.

Obama's speech brought tears to my eyes and hope in my heart. I didn't think I would ever see an African-Amer. elected Pres. The nation has said those barriers are broken!

Our biggest county is having a glitch with their voting machines....their votes won't all be counted until tomorrow. My county still has people voting even though polls "closed" almost 2 hrs. ago.

I'm off to bed. There will be no answers to our state races for a few days.

Laurie, when I saw the crowds in Chicago, I thought of you and your daughter and wondered if she would be there. That is how Jackie's brings us together.

The faces during Obama's speech were something to see!

About the electoral college. I hope it was done in an effort to be fair. It was politics and I wasn't there to offer an opinion, so I can't say for sure. : ) But it is a way for each individual state to be represented equally. I don't know that it is still fair, but I can understand why it began and was better than giving each state one vote. And, we couldn't have had majority rule, since we are seperate states. Letting each state keep their own identity is basic to our government and if majority ruled in the votes then that wouldn't hold true. The EC kept each state alone but united.

Something like 46 million people voted for Senator McCain, while it wasn't enough, it shows he and his platform have a huge number of supporters who need to be recognized.

Laurie said...

More than anything, I think we need to be proud of our nation that we cared and we voted. Now we need to support our elected officials and tell them what we want and need. I may be naive, but I believe they are ready to listen.

i just wanted to make a couple of comments...

nana- i thought the same thing when i saw her dress

and a little history on the electoral college..it's an antiquated system that serves no purpose anymore (IMO) before mass media, when men didn't even necessarily know who was running for office. people voted and officials entrusted to vote the way of the popular vote were given "electoral votes" to cast. it's supposed to represent fairly the population, but to me, if you don't know who is running for office and can't make an educated decision in this day and age, you must be living in a cave! it's a shame bc some states don't even see a candidate bc there's no point in campaigning in a state for 2 votes when there are the heavy hitters out there like Cali, Florida, PA and New York...
i have been fortunate to not only hear alot about sen biden bc i live so close to delaware but also to have been a frequent stop on the campaign trail.

good night everyone and good luck to our new administration

I'm very excited to see how the next four years will improve. I pray for all the elected officials. They're going to need it.

I too, had mentioned I don't like the idea of the electoral college and agree that it is an antiquated system. Obama would have won by the popular vote as well, it appears, even tho it was close, but it would have shown a better picture of how close McCain was to winning as well, if it were based on the popular vote.

This was a class act election. God Bless America!

Good morning all. Sorry I missed posting with you guys last night. I am ecstatic that Barack Obama won. I stood in line for 3 hours yesterday to vote for the man. I wish him all the best of luck. He will have a heavy load on his shoulders, and I think there are a lot of people out there with seriously unrealistic expectations of what he can accomplish. I fear that too many people expect him to be the savior of the world and that's just not going to happen. I believe he has good intentions and good ideas, but as far as how much of those intentions and ideas can come to fruition, let's just say I am much more sceptical than a lot of people. But I definitely believe he was the superior choice and I'm excited to see where we go from here.

Good morning, all!

Yep, Chicago is going to be one partying town! Laurie, how great it was that your daughter was able to be there last night. To be a part of such a huge night in history is amazing - for all of us!

McCain's speech was indeed gracious. It would have been nice to see some of that during the campaign, instead of all the negative stuff we saw from him and Palin. I don't know if it would have made any difference in the outcome, but I would have respected them more.

I missed most of Obama's speech. I wasn't feeling well last night so went to bed shortly after the vote was called. I had my TV on, but fell asleep. I know there'll be lots of clips of it, but I want to see the entire speech! Hopefully, I can find it somewhere!!

It's still going to be awhile before we know what's going here with some of our local candidates and ballot measures. The race between our senatorial candidates was so negative that many voted for the guy running from the Constitutional Party that nobody had ever heard of. It's still way too close to call.

Well, I'm off to work now, icky tummy and all. :(

Everybody have a great day!!

Jackie, are you okay? We have not heard from you since Sunday night. I am a little worried.

Apparently I stand alone in this blog as the one person severely depressed at the outcome of the election. Glad I never had children, because I would NOT want my children in a country run by this man or this administration.

Truly an exciting moment last night and this morning. Very emotional at work this morning. My husband and I kept waking up throughout the night to turn on the news to see what else was going on around the nation. The unplanned gatherings in front of the White House and other areas was just rewarding at how far we have come as a nation. I'm very proud.

Thanks for listening - Karen in MD/DC

pdxgranny, AOL News has clips and scripts of both speeches.

I have to say I doubted I would ever see such an event in my lifetime. "This change has been a long time coming", to say the least.

I agree that both speeches were inspiring and gracious. However, the same cannot be said for the audience in Arizona. That group of people loudly booed Obama's name just about every time it was mentioned, in spite of McCain's words for the need to unite both parties. Chicago however, cheered McCain's name when it was mentioned by Obama. A bit of GOP sour grapes, there in AZ, I think.

I agree with rbennie, we can't expect prez-elect Obama to perform miracles or to undo all the damage this last administration has showered on us for eight years.

It will be hard work to heal the divide in our country and it will take more than one president to remove the tarnished image of America that Bush has left in his wake, both inside and outside of our borders. The divide between Wall St. and Main St as prez-elect Obama put it. He will remind all that the poor, the working class and the middle class are equally as American as the rich of our land. I believe our new president can pave the way to showing the world once more that we are a nation to be reckoned with and a nation deserving of respect with good leadership.

Again, I believe president-elect Obama can help us as a nation to begin the healing process. He can make changes that are good for all the people of the USA.

The work has only begun.

I believe in this man.

I'm really sorry that you feel that way Petals. I sincerely hope that you will be pleasantly surprised in the future by our new president-elect.

Petals, you are not the only one on this blog not happy with the outcome of this election. Now we have to pray for him to do what is right for our country.

petals... Just remember who really is in control of our great nation and it'll be easier for you to accept. God is our leader and it's gonna be OK.

I'm really not that upset with the outcome, even tho Obama wasn't my choice. If I'd had my druthers (as my mother would have said) I would have voted for Ron Paul.

That said, it's a done deal and we have to support him and most importantly, as donna in al said, pray for him. He's gonna need all our prayers.

And we need to pray for George Bush as well. He came into the presidency and almost immediately 9/11 happened and he never had a real chance to do anything but respond to that. He may have been a great president, but we'll never know... he never had the chance to show us what he could do for our country. The war overshadowed him from the beginning.

Just my little ole opinion. It's upward and onward from here.

God is good, He loves us and He's going to bless us, no matter who the president is. OK, off my soap box for now.

Petals - I'm sorry you feel that way, but I for one am glad that I have a child who can experience this and benefit from the results. She's only 5 so she won't remember a time when a minority couldn't be our president. Hopefully she'll also see a female president or a Hispanic president. I have faith in this man and I'm sure we'll see a lot of good come out of this.

I agree with you Orkmommy - as much as I'm excited to see an African American president, I'm even more excited to think that this opens the door a little wider for a woman president!
