Survivor Gabon Finale Post

jackie's tv blog, survivor

This is it! It's the big three-hour finale and reunion show! Zoetawny has made us a new season finale graphic to lend to the party atmosphere. Alas, football has delayed the show here, but I will update this post with the major updates. My full review will be up on TV Squad later tonight or early tomorrow morning. Please join in down in the comments area -- that's where the real party is!

I'm expecting the show to start about 8:30 ET here. Sigh.

And ... it's ON! 8:30 PM ET start time here in the NYC area.

BOB WINS IMMUNITY AGAIN!

Kenny was blindsided. What comes around goes around, eh? Bye-bye Kenny.

Memory walk time. Corinne likes not being nice and Randy found out he can make friends.

Yikes ... Susie won the final immunity challenge. There goes my night!

It's a tie between Bob and Matty being voted out, onto a firemaking challenge. Bob has been practicing.

Bob wins the tiebreaker! Matty is out of it and the final three are Bob, Sugar, and Susie.

BOB WINS SURVIVOR GABON! Sugar got no votes, Bob 4, Susie 3.

BOB also won the 100 grand from the viewers. Sugar was #2, Matty #3.

Did I miss something? They kept showing Susie's occupation as "hair dresser" but she kept talking about her students and how much her winning would mean to them and her son.

For those of you who think Sugar is a "successful" actress & model, I'd check her resume again. She appears to be "getting by".

And they were all clearly shocked that the audience like Sugar, I think we'd be very surprised to see the Sugar that all the castaways really saw. Even Marcus was totally done with her and sneered when Jeff asked questions about her. Methinks a lot more went on behind the scenes.

And if Sugar wanted any votes she shouldn't have been a complete smartass at tribal. She was condescending and rude to almost everyone who asked her questions, why on earth should any of them have voted for her. I liked Sugar for the most part and I would have gladly voted for Susie instead of her after hearing those answers.

Btw, I thought both Corinne & Randy were awesome and I bet we'd all be surprised about how we'd act in the same circumstances as they were in.

Maybe Corrine is Jen's (BB)sister! Both have the same personality.

Susan in FL -- THAT"S IT!! or at least who I was thinking of when I looked at him. Thanks for coming up with the name.

Caroline, you are, of course, entitled to your opinion and so am I.

I so disagree with Corinne and Randy being awesome. If being rude and condescending is such a terrible thing for Sugar to be, why would anyone think it awesome for Corinne and Randy to be the same and worse? If Corinne had said to me what she said to Sugar about her life and her father, (neither of which Corinne could possibly know about)I would probably have jumped over people to sock her in the mouth.

We don't know what happened around that camp as far as what Sugar did or didn't do that wasn't filmed. And I certainly wouldn't take the word of two anti-social types who professed loudly and early in the game that they HATE Sugar. They've all shown their bitterness as losers and want the world to share their opinion. My reply to Corinne would have been the same as Sugar's was in reaction to Corinne's venomous speech. Then, I would've punched her in the mouth!

I applaud Sugar thumbing her nose (and her middle finger) at those who expected she would kiss their butts to gain votes that she never had a chance of getting anyway.

Most of those questions were only asked to serve the askers self-satisfaction anyway.

I missed the first hour of the show because we attended my daughter's Christmas performance. Just finished watching it on my DVR.

Sorry I missed the fun party here.
Loved all your comments. You guys really are too funny.

Well, guess I'll work backwards. I was thrilled that Bob won but was really worried for a while there when Susie won immunity. Shocker! How the heck did that happen?! She hadn't won an immunity all season. Amazing how the situation can turn so fast. Sugar was very clever creating a tie. She really was caught between a rock and a hard spot choosing to vote for either Mattie or Bob. Bob was very sharp to go off and practice his fire starting skills. Jeff's comment about fire starting skills as a tie breaker was so true. I'm wondering how many other seasons had a tie vote at this point in the game?

I'm still not totally getting why they didn't like Sugar the way the viewing audience did. It must have been the editing and we just didn't see why Sugar was so unpopular. Although, you would think that they would have been more understanding and forgiving if it was Sugar's grieving over losing her dad so recently. Do you think that Bob should have been eligible for this season's best player? I would have preferred the $100,000 go to Mattie or Sugar.

Jeff's comments were priceless as usual. He seems to get more entertaining each season. Wonder who his new girl friend is?

Corinne's hateful speech was beyond reprehensible. Her issues must have issues. Even Randy wasn't as blatantly meanspirited. I can see how some might think Randy is funny but it's just not my type of humor.

Crystal's excuses for not being good at physical challenges were lame, imo. She's only good at running in circles. ;)

I think the jury this season were more about holding personal grudges than other seasons. We never know if they are going to vote emotionally or for whoever played the game the best no matter how devious.

There's so much more but I'm running out of time here.

Jackie...

Thanks for all your tireless efforts making this Gabon season most enjoyable.

Ciao~

Bob really does owe Sugar a big one for that tie. Of the seven jurors (well, minus Matty) five of them said they would have voted for Matty if he'd made it to final three. Only Crystal did not put her hand up.

No wonder Matty was miffed at her.

I only meant Corinne & Randy were awesome within the context of the show. What fun would it have been without villains? We all love the drama on these shows and they both gave us lots of it. For me the difference between them & Sugar in terms of condescending was the venue in which it took place. If Sugar wanted a chance to win the million, the jury questioning was not the time to be condescending. She didn't have to suck up to them, but she truly had horrible answers to their questions, she didn't even try to pump herself up and prove she deserved the money. If I was on the jury, her lack of even trying would have prevented me from voting for her. We all know Susie did nothing to deserve the money, but at least she tried to pretend she did...and it translated into votes for her.

Offtopic: Dexter

What did the Dexter fans think of the season finale the other night?

I thought it was a great ending to a great season. It was a nice touch that Deb got her detective shield, and I'm glad Quinn turned out to be a good cop, he's a good foil for Deb as her partner. It was nice that the wedding went off without a hitch, and I can't wait to see what happens when the baby comes.

How long before Deb figures out her dad's affair was Dexter's Mom, and how much info is in that file about Dexter and his brother? Deb may be in for the shock of her life.

Caroline, you're right that Corinne and Randy were entertaining as "villains", but I still think they and several of the others were much more condescending to Sugar and she didn't deserve it.

Dexter was great and I loved how they tied up so many loose ends. But that blood dripping on Rita's wedding dress as she and Dexter danced seemed ominous. I can't wait until next season!

I was concerned about that blood on Rita's dress too. The previews for next season makes it seem like one of the main characters may die. It was something like "As one life ends, a new one comes into the world." It was really creepy.

My husband said the same thing. I saw it a little differently. I don't know that either version (his or mine) was what was really going on, though. I saw it as Sugar knowing she had no chance with them no matter what and chose to lay it on the line. It was her opportunity to say what she thought of them, just as theirs to tell her off (as Corine had been waiting to do). I liked the honesty of it (Sugar at TC), but I really don't even know if it was honesty on her part. All of them (except maybe Bob and Susie) were spotlight hogs and looking for ways to get the attention on themselves. imjo (in my jaded opinion) lol

I read an interview where Sugar talked of the pre-game classes they took to learn about Africa. I think the dislike with the other contestants toward her might have started there. She said since she was fooling around screaming at bugs, etc, 'they' (production people?) made her leave the group.

But, even though the other players didn't like her, it seemed like the film crew and Jeff did. Maybe she shows different faces to different people. I think Survivor has given her career a big boost and she will do okay, even without the money.

I think jealousy may have played a factor in the juror's dislike for Sugar. Marcus was mad that SHE found the idol and he (Mr Genius IQ) didn't.
This little girl out-played most of them, and none of them liked it. So she cried alot, so what? I would too.

LOVED THIS SEASON!!!!!

Me, too, Petals. ALL of it. The good, the bad and the ugly.
