Survivor and TAR Blog Pools, Tonight's TV, and a bit of Off Topic

It's that time again! Thanks to members of this blog community, the pools for Survivor and The Amazing Race will once again go on in the comments area. If you didn't participate before, don't worry -- no money or wagering is involved. Those who want to be in the pool just need to speak up and the show contestants are chosen randomly for us to cheer on throughout the season.

ORKmommy is running the Survivor pool and here's who she has listed as in so far:
Terry in CA

Jennasmom
PDX Granny
Laurie
Becky
Dixie
Rbennie
lynn1
Margo
Joyce
meb
dla
Caroline
ORKMommy
Jackie
Sydney
Gayle
Jodie
Sizzie
Donna in AL
Petals
Zoetawny

Margo has volunteered to run the pool for The Amazing Race. So far (I'm adding my name):
Margo

Donna in AL
Meb
Sizzie
Caroline
ORKMommy
Lynn1
Jackie

If you want in, just reply in comments and mention which pool. Or, if you prefer to notify Margo or ORKMommy, they left messages in my last post's comments. I just don't want to put email addresses here on the main page of the blog.

I have a TV dilemma tonight. I want to watch American Idol as they're going to narrow it down to the final 36. Argh! It's two hours tonight! Meanwhile, at 9 PM ET, Lost comes on. What I'll probably do is record the second hour of AI and watch Lost as it airs. Then it's Life on Mars for me. Hopefully either late tonight or tomorrow I'll at least get some commentary up about both Lost and American Idol.

And, now to a bit of off topic. I haven't seen Roofus the Cat for a few days, but I'm sure he's fine. Unfortunately, there was a murder at the station in the wee hours of Sunday morning. An 18-year-old was shot, no one is in custody. The train station I go to daily and the neighborhood surrounding it are safe as I go through both on my way to work and home. I'm friendly with fellow commuters and the shopkeepers in the area. But I wouldn't be there at 2:30 AM. It's a totally different world there at that hour.

Today's musical non sequitur:
When you walk through the garden

You gotta watch your back
Well, I beg your pardon
Walk the straight and narrow track
If you walk with Jesus
He's gonna save your soul
You gotta keep the devil
Way down in the hole
-- "Way Down in the Hole" by Tom Waits

I do want in the AR party. I was surprised not to see my name listed, oh well, there is time.

Jackie, that is horrible what happened at the train station, and I agree I would not be there at 230am either. I am sure Roofus is safe, just found a new place to hang out for a few.

PS I think Sydney should get Sydney, just give her her!!! :-)

I want to be in the AR pool, please.

Jackie, how are you feeling? Has your boss come back to work?

Did they catch the shooter? Why don't parents pay more attention to their children?

Delee. I think Sydney should get Sydney too.

Becky - I thought the cortisone shot was working for the right knee, but today it's hurting. Both knees hurt today, so maybe it's just the weather.

My ex-boss is okay, but the accident turned out to be one waiting to happen with legal issues. He's been transferred and last week a new boss arrived on the scene. Fine by me -- someone I know, like, and respect.

Very few facts have come out about the shooting other than the victim's name and age. There's gang activity in the area, plus it's a haven for robberies and muggings at that hour. I saw a picture of the victim on the memorial and recall seeing him around the pool hall on that block. But he was just a kid.

Amazing the songs you come up with... and knowing the lyrics!

ORK and MARGO -- Thank you for doing the pools! We love you for it!!!

And I have not seen the square looking so festive as with the balloon seller there. Roofie, I hope it wasn't tooooo cold for you. It's just starting to warm UP now, so come out and let us know you're OK.

Jackie, do you ever see the old man who feeds them still doing that all the time? I would send a donation to feed them (like you need another thing to do)... or maybe we could all take up a little donation to give to him to buy catfood in these hard times? Just a thought.

RIP for the young man at the train station.

Margo--"put me in coach...I'm ready to play". I am definitely in for the AR pool and was already listed in the Survivor pool!! I told my husband he might as well move to his garage(there is a TV out there) because it's going to be Reality Heaven(to me)/Hell(to him)...Amer. Idol, Bachelor, Biggest Loser, Survivor and Amazing Race.
I agree--Sydney should get Sydney(if she wants her)!

Jackie--that shot was suppose to buy you several months...:-( Hope it improves.

Roofus has probably found a food source in another building...bet he'll be back in a few weeks.

Will check in tomorrow...

PS Jax -- I sent you an e-mail if you can take a little lookey when you get a minute.

And yes, I liked Sydney's video. She seemed level headed and balanced. refreshing!

I am so excited that Survivor starts tomorrow. I still haven't watched the videos. Yikes!

Count me in on the TAR pool, too. Being in a pool really makes the shows more fun.

Thanks for doing the pools, OrkMommy and Margo!

Thanks for opening this up for blogging, too, Jackie. What a great group we have here!

I want to be in the AR pool, too! Margo, I sent you an email but don't know if it went - having lots of trouble with AOL tonight.

I ditto the thanks to Orkmommy & Margo for putting it all together for us!

My thoughts are of Roofus. Please let my lil black-n-white, roof-loving buddy be OK.

I think the Survivor pool is all I can manage. I love getting all involved & excited, but I can never seem to manage catching AR when it's on, so I will cheer from the sidelines.

OMG - Survivor is TONIGHT?!?
YYEEEEEEAAAAAAAA !! !! ! ! !

I would like to be in the pool too! Count me in for both. I have been anonymous at times as I have a hard time getting logged in on this site but can go to my account, log in and come back. That seems to work better. I have followed Jackie since her first season of BB. Let the fun begin!

Margo, Your work will make AR even more fun here at Jackie's. Thank you for doing it.

Jackie, As you say, you can't underestimate the pain factor in weather. I hope that when the front or whatever passes through your area, your knee will be better.

I know how a local shooting can bring it all home..even when we weren't close to the people involved.

Mostly, I stopped by to tell you I appreciate all you do, Jackie. ou have built a great community here. : )

Welcome to all the new names I see here today. Great that we can all be in the pools and that Margo and Orkmommy have offered to host it for us. Thanks guys.

Jackie, I know what it's like to have the cortisone shot only to not have it last. Before I went to Greece, I got a shot in my knee... I immediately went shopping and by the end of the day, the pain was back. I limped all through Greece - 17 days. When I got home, I started the Omega 3 and within days the pain was gone and I haven't had it since... 5 years ago and counting.
But I don't think mine was anywhere near as bad as yours is.. bone on bone sounds excruciating!

I'm sure Roofus is fine... he's enjoying the good weather by scouting around. He'll be back as AS says!

Sydney - The balloons and all were actually the memorial for the shooting victim. Today there's a big People for Progress Unity demonstration there, but I won't be on the train as I'm off today.

As for the man who feeds the cats -- I peeked in the office door last night and saw bags and bags of cat food and one gorgeous black and white BIG cat looking back at me. I think the elderly man must be there daily as fresh food is always outside for the cats. But I haven't seen him for a while.

Looking at the list of Survivor pool participants I was wondering if
Terry in CA
PDX Granny
Dixie
Rbennie
Joyce
dlb
Gayle
Jodie
Zoetawny
want to sign up for the TAR pool also?

I have added SueGee to my list that is posted here in the comments.

Margo

MEB would you mind if I used your rainbow bridge post to send to my sister who doggy just died.

Mary if you are lurking - I am soo sorry. She is in a much better place now with no pain.

meb said...

Oh Margo... of course you can use it. Especially for the person who just lost a dear pet friend. I'm so sorry to hear that. Just click on my cat or my name and go to my blog and copy it.

Jackie... was it Roofus that was looking back at you.. "BIG BLACK AND WHITE CAT" ?? That would be neat if you actually got up that close to him.

Someone must be supplying this man with all that food. Hope so or maybe he's just rich and doesn't have anything else to do with his money. I would spend it to feed animals too (and humans).

Thanks MEB

MEB - Nope, it wasn't Roofus. It could be a relative of Roofus. It was huge and fluffy.

Hello fellow watchers! I am so excited to join you all and Jackie while watching these 2 wonderful shows. Please add me to the pool(I hope I don't have to swim). I'm not sure what it's all about; however, if it lets me be friends with you fine folk then I am in.

Ork, Jackie or Survivor pool lifeguard - I think I am listed twice on the Survivor pool: once as Jodie, then as Petals. Just remove the Jodie (if it's the same as me)...unless there is a different Jodie.

Thanks.
