The Amazing Race: "Our Parents Will Cry Themselves to Death"

Jackie's TV Blog, Amazing Race, TAR

Oh my. The show is starting on time here on the East Coast tonight. Once again, I offer my apologies for not posting a lot. I'm still working extra hours at work and have battled a cold since Tuesday. It's not a serious cold per se. But every time I go to bed, my sinuses and throat fill up with ick. Therefore I'm hardly sleeping. And due to working extra hours (which I must take as I rarely am offered them), I'm going around groggy-headed this week. Blech.

Anyway ... onto the show. My full review will be posted later tonight on TV Squad and everyone is welcome to party in comments!

Pit Stop -- Three teams arrive almost all at once --
1. Jen and Kisha -- won a trip to Barbados
2. Tammy and Victor
3. Margie and Luke
4. Cara and Jaime

Explosions betweeen Margie and Luke at the Pit Stop.

Mark and Michael last, Philiminated.

Jackie, hope you feel better soon. I would recommend Alka-Seltzer Plus in lemon flavor. If you use ice cold water it isn't that bad.

Also, if there is congestion, Musinex is the best thing out there.

A nice hot toddy might not be a bad idea. Can I fix you one?

Jackie S. said...

Sounds good! Merci!

becky said...

Here you go. Watch out, it's pretty strong.

Joanie said...

Jackie,

How is your boss, who was in the car accident?

Margo said...

Hey everyone I made brownies!

OK, the girls are justifying their bitch comment way too much, or so the editing makes it look like it.

I understand if they both are frantic and with momentum clashed at the box at the same time. There was no reason for him to elbow them... though I'm sure it was a knee jerk reaction. But really, if they both got the clue 3 seconds apart it would not make a difference in this race.

Luke says I can't believe they called a "deaf guy" a bitch. It has nothing to do with him being deaf ... got to stop playing that card not...

OK, and now the girls did it back -- they're even.

Sydney said...

god these guys are clueless -- thought they are my guys in the pool. My husband loves them.

I am getting kind of PO's about how they are treating these birds. Where's PETA when you need them?

becky said...

Looks like they are showing Marge and Luke's nasty side tonight. He is out of line, IMHO.

I hate to hear that. The sisters, Keshia and Jen aren't being very nice either. The one is nastier than the other.

I would hate for the stuntmen to shampoo my hair. They look pretty rough

Sydney said...

Jackie -- re: Joanie's question -- did they ever let him go? I think you wrote us something like he was taking sick leave... then it kind of turned into forever.

becky said...

Brother and Sister selected the wrong boat.

Hey,Sydney and Margo. Margo, do you have any milk to go with the brownies.

Okay, Sisters, you both pushed each other. Grow up and stop acting like first graders!

Sydney said...

Yay, two of the birds got to fly away!

Sorry, as an animal lover I try not to go over that edge where I'm intolerant... I know stuff goes on all over the world and we will never be able to change it all. But it still kind of hurt to watch that part

Sydney said...

Jackie -- I picked up some TCBY chocolate/peanut butter lo fat frozen yoghurt before the show. I don't know if that will help you when you lay down and get congested, but it SURE could help you feel good right now, while you're still sitting up. Sugar rush, if nothing else? Would you like me to make you a banana split with it?

Jackie S. said...

Joanie and Sydney - He was transferred to another location but still with the company. Physically, he's okay. But the accident has all kinds of legal matters involved. I don't want to know lawyer's fees. I'm much happier with the new boss, so I call it karma more than the bird biting Luke.

BTW - We saw those fishing birds on Survivor China, remember?

Sydney said...

Hey back Becky

Sydney said...

Um, mom, replay the tape and you will see he DID elbow the sister first.

Margo said...

becky would you like white 1% or Sugar free Quik and 1%?

Anonymous said...

I wish the pushing and name calling had been with Keisha/Jen and the mean cheerleader instead of with Luke.

Sydney said...

gawd, how did you all think the boys shampooing went. Seemed like they kind of forgot they were washing little older ladies... it wasn't a dog in a bathtub!

Laurie said...

Hi all, just checking in after doing a little gardening. My sweetpeas are blooming, so I needed to pick flowers and tie more vines up. Yaaay!

Good to know the show is on time tonight. oooh, frozen yogurt and brownies? Divine. I made sun tea in our 90 degree heat wave. Help yourself!

Jackie, I've been fighting a similar thing for a month now. Musinex is good for the congestion, and I also took non-drowsy claritin (generic). Both helped me live through it. Things are better now but I'm still sneezing a lot periodically. Hope you can get some rest.

Sydney said...

OK, after seeing how the dancer lady "manhandles" teh two redheads, I take back what I said about how rough MIke and Co were with the shampooing.

Now guys, just be kind to my BIRDS!

becky said...

1% white, please. Thanks, Jackie. I knew I had seen the bird fishing before.

I expect the cheerleaders to blow at any time. Nasty, nasty, nasty! "Just run over them." He, he, he. Karma just came back to bite them. They are doing something wrong and no one speaks English. Or if they do they decided to fail the snot nose girls.

I'm off to fold laundry while I watch - so Help yourselves to brownies and milk (brown or white).
Margo

Sydney said...

uh oh, what's that adage about redheads and tempers? Applies to at least one of them....

Sydney said...

yum Margo! Thanks. I have some extra frozen yoghurt if anyone wants a dollop on top. I'll grab a scoop and put it next to the brownies.

Sydney said...

how did the sisters get there before Tammy and bro? I thought they were leading everyone the entire time?

Sydney said...

I don't think I've ever seen something like this before on TAR... have I? I only began watching 3 seasons ago (Jackie, do you know?)

Anonymous said...

Looks like Luke started all the shoving at both places.

Petals said...

Luke is a spoiled mean BRAT, encouraged by his mom, playing the deaf card. Grrr....

Anonymous said...

Darn, Momma called and I missed all the confortation. What happened? While did Phil say? Aw, the little guys were Philmanated. I had hoped it was the cheerleaders.

Sydney said...

My boys are out... I don't know that I'll miss them much, lol. But it;s a respectable time to have gotten to if you're going to be eliminated.

Petals said...

Sorry I ranted before I said this:
Hey Everyone! Missed you.

Anonymous said...

I really resent that Margie said all hearing people make fun of deaf people.

Laurie said...

Here's something I keep forgetting to say. I think it's odd that Luke can only communicate through his mother. Why didn't they have him learn to read lips? I know the deaf community doesn't consider being deaf a handicap but it isn't fair to have a child only be able to communicate with sign language in the general public. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to me he should be learning to communicate with the hearing world in some way. Momma can't always be with him.

Sorry the little guys got Philiminated this week. I liked watching them play the game.

Hi Jackie, I just now had time to read the heading. So sorry to hear you are feeling bad...you said "It's not a serious cold per se" to which I add, all colds are serious in my book because they make us feel awful. I hope yours is gone soon.

Jackie S. said...

Sydney - Never a confrontation to that extent before.

Petals said...

Jax - feel better. A Spring cold is always rough due to all the pollen & air changes. I hope you're feeling 100% soon.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Margie realizes how much she is sheltering Luke. Maybe watching the show will help her see that. I also don't know how old he is. I think parents get in the habit of fighting their kids battles and forget when it is time to let them learn how to handle those things on their own.

lynn1 said...

I was very disapppointed in both Luke and Margie's behavior and actions.
My feeling is that as a team they should be penalized.
The sisters fessed up to name calling and one even went so far as to say they stumbled into the clue box when in fact Luke pushed her.
I hope that Margie and Luke are actually made to see the clips of what happened and are forced to apologize to the sisters.
Tammy and Victor looked really uncomfortable when Margie went off on the sisters.
Jackie, I hope your cold improves and you are feeling great very soon.

Anonymous said...

Although Luke did raise his elbow, I believe that, since he could not hear the sister, he did not realize that she was that close. He ducked and put his arm up as a defense when he felt her reach over his back.

Kathy in NC

Laurie said...

Kathy in NC: I agree. That part just aired here in CA and it looked like an automatic defense move to me, not an aggressive move. Too bad his mom told him of the bitch comment! Game on now!

Anonymous said...

That "defensive" move almost smacked her in the face.

Anonymous said...

Neither team's distinguished themselves tonight. The girls were meanspirited and nasty even after they had come in in first place, indicating that they plan to "push" Luke and his mother in the weeks to come. Poor winners. Mom and Luke looked like crybabies. This is a race for a million dollars and Luke needs to know he will not get special privileges or be treated any differently than a hearing person. Hopefully Phil, who is a diplomat and a decent guy, will have a little off camera chat with members of both teams.

I noticed that, too, and I was glad they ddin't jump in and make it worst. Keeping quite was their best bet. I think they might have been hoping for a penalty that would make them first team.

Was it a footrace at the end and J and Ke run it? I noticed from the starting times that M and Luke were way ahead of the others arriving the week before. It was a hour or more I think.

I cringed with the cheerleader behaved so hatefully to the dance judges and stepped on people with apology or remorse.

Anonymous said...

too many errors in my last post to believe ! Sorry folks. : (

I wondered if first place team 'won' the footrace. And thought the cheerleaders had rude behavior without remorse.

Petals said...

I agree with Anon/Kathy in NC that PERHAPS Luke's elbow was a reflex defensive action, however - it doesn't excuse his infantile behavior at the end. It's been clear from the beginning and especially now that he has been protected and privileged and allowed to act-out due to his disability.
There have been plenty of other TAR contestants with disabilities that never played that "poor me, and shame on you for not letting me win" act.
And I agree with everyone that gave KUDOS to Vic/Tam for staying out of it.

In the end, the cameras say it all!
Hope you are feeling better today, Ms Jackie.

The name calling and shoving overshadowed Tammy and Victor speaking Chinese. I loved hearing them, but also wondered if the other Racers knew what they were telling the stamp man...like the title of the show says.

Petals said...

Sizzie - I didn't know Vic/Tam were Chinese - I wonder why that didn't give them a better advantage at this stop in the race?

I just re-watched last night's tape of TAR. I checked out the two altercations in slo-mo several times. Luke was definitely the aggressor in both instances.

At the first box: Luke was not caught off-guard because of his deafness. He knew Jen was behind him. As they both ran to the box with Luke in front, Jen's running momentum caused her to put her hands on Luke's back to stop herself. Luke pushed his butt out towards her. She did NOT push him. Her hands touched his back and she immediately pulled her hands away. She moved to her left trying to move around him, towards the side of the box. At the same time, Luke moved also to his left and, at the same time, brought his elbow up hard to keep her from reaching towards the box. He really came close to hitting her hard with it. Then, with the clue in his hand, he moved away. It WAS a bitch move and NOT a defensive one.

At the second box: They ran neck and neck toward it. As they closed in on the box, he tried to shove her aside, He shoved her hard enough that she fell towards the box, knees bent and almost knocked the box over. She almost fell. He tried to reach around her and she pushed his hand away. Then, as Margie and Kisha rushed towards them, he put up his hands as if to say he didn't do anything. Anyone else with a tape can verify this.

It happened fast but his memory can't be wrong on both counts. Jen and Kisha were telling the truth. Luke was not. Margie was only covering her son's butt.

****

I think it was because the birds didn't speak their language.

I do want to see the end again, where all three teams were running to the pit stop. I hadn't realized they were so close. I don't know how I missed that.

Petals said...

Thanks Joy - You're analysis was pretty much what I remembered viewing. I hate that TAR has gotten to an "ugly" place over this, after all these seasons. Luke is a BRAT and a BITCH!

Sydney said...

Thanks Joy!

Caroline said...

Re: Tammy & Victor.....it was totally the birds that set them back. It allowed the other teams to catch up with them so that they all arrived at the caligraphy challenge together. Then the other 2 teams just followed them from stand to stand. Had they not been slowed by the birds and reached the caligraphy stands first, it would have been much harder for the teams that didn't speak Chinese to complete that task.

As for Luke vs. Jen...thank you Joy for the play-by-play...exactly how I thought it occured. Luke always whines about how he wants to be treated the same, but think about this....how do you think Jen & Kisha would have reacted to a hearing 19 yr old boy that cried cause he got called a bitch? I bet they'd have laughed even harder at him than they did at Luke. It wasn't cause he was deaf....they were laughing cause he's a whiny spoiled baby. His mother needs to stop coddling him so much and let him deal with the real world.

Well since I've been philiminated, I'm rooting for the brother/sister team. They have shown they can change from when they first started to a behavior that will allow them to go forward and maybe just win this race. I hope so.

Jackie, hope this finds you feeling much better. Colds make us miserable, no matter how intense they may be.

Until next week.

Hi guys! I'm actually here at my home sweet home on the blog. Yea!

Jackie...

I'm sorry to read you're filled up with "ick". A good expectorant might help with the mucous. IKWYM about not getting good sleep because of it. My allergies have been causing me similar symptoms and feeling sleep deprived the next day is really rough. I'm not sure if you still have Wednesdays off but if so, hope you got to sleep in. Feel better soon!

I finally watched TAR and wish I had been here for live comments. The fights were so childish and petty on both sides. The sisters need to grow up...talk about carrying a grudge. I can understand Luke's mom being over protective of him because of his disability but for his own sake she needs to cut the cord.

Sydney...

I was cringing at the way they grabbed the necks of those poor birds. I could be wrong but I don't think other countries treat animals/fowl as respectful as we do here in the USA.

Sydney said...

LOL I was thinking the same thing. I don't like a rough hairdresser. The older ladies were good sports.

Well my 5 minutes of playtime is over...phone call for me.

Hope all is well with everyone here.
