Rest in Peace, Scherzo

I apologize for the lack of Big Brother updates. My 17-year old cat Scherzo, who had been fine two days ago, was lethargic when I got home from work yesterday. As the night went on, she took a turn for the worse. She died while I was waiting for a ride to get her to the emergency vet. I don't know what happened. I'm a bit of an emotional wreck right now.

She was such a good cat.

Oh Jackie --I am so so sorry. I know how difficult it was when you lost your other kitty. I wish I could have been nearby to speed over in my jeep and gotten you to the hospital.

How comforting for Scherzo to be with you in those final hours. It had to be just traumatic for you though. Sending you much love and hugs and sending blessings of passage and peace.

(((Jackie))), we are all grieving the loss of your wonderful Scherzo, the beautiful Calico who shared your life for seventeen years. All of your cyber friends across America have their arms wrapped around you and are sharing your tears.

We know that the pain you are feeling right now seems almost unbearable. It is so easy during times like these to say you will never let another pet get so close to your heart. But had you not let Scherzo and her companion into your life you would have missed the joy and laughter (and yes, even the frustration they can cause when they get into what they should have left alone) they brought to you over the years. Pets like Scherzo helped mold you into the caring, loving person you are today.

Scherzo was part of your family and as a member deserves the tears, regret and sadness you are feeling to see her go on before you. Take the time you need to grieve. Send up thanks to God that He allowed you the privilege of sharing your life with such a beautiful creature.

A favorite comfort to the Beagle Buddies is a poem (see the link below) about the Rainbow Bridge, a beautiful place where our furry (or winged) pets go to wait for us. One day when it is your turn to cross the Bridge, there will be a flurry movement as pets you have loved and cherished rush to meet you. They will fly across the Bridge and then you will cross together.

Jackie,

I want to add my sincere sympathies on the loss of your beautiful cat. The loss of a pet can be heartbreaking and it leaves such a hole in one's life and home. It just doesn't seem fair that our cats and dogs don't get to live very long, when they've given us so much love, companionship and entertainment, asking little in return.

Take comfort in the knowledge that you provided a loving home for Scherzo, and that maybe your two cats are playing together again, at the Rainbow Bridge.

The Rainbow Bridge story

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your Scherzo finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of Scherzo, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together........

I hope this message warms your heart & lifts your spirit if just for a moment.

From one cat lover to another.

My Deepest Condolences, Jokats

May I add my condolences. This is a difficult time and I hope the hole that is now in your heart will soon be filled with fond memories of Scherzo and the joy that he brought into your life.

The right words are often hard to express when a beloved pet has been lost. I hope you find a small amount of comfort in the words of Irving Townsend.

Another cat? Perhaps.
For love there is also a season; its seeds must be resown.
But a family cat is not replaceable like a worn out coat or a set of tires.
Each kitten becomes its own cat, and none is repeated.
I am four cats old, measuring out my life in friends that have succeeded but not replaces one another.

I lost my cat of 19 years. A friend sent me this poem. My sypmpathy to you, Jackie.

"The Rainbow Bridge"

"There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated."

We all understand your pain, especially those of us who have choosen to have pets instead of kids. They are family. Scherzo lived a good long life and did not suffer a long illness which should give you comfort. Also, it spared you from having to make that horrible decision of when to put a pet down.

I know right now that may not seem comforting but hopefully you will soon be able to look back at all the sweet times you spent together and know what a blessing you and she were given.
