The Amazing Race 15 - Season Finale Blog Party Post

Oh my ... what a shocker ... the finale is going to actually air on time here tonight! I'm a bit disappointed that it's only an hour as I'd like to see Phil interview the teams, but I'll take what I can get. I love the show so much!

As it airs here on the East Coast, I'll update any major happenings in this entry. However, the real fun (and most of the information) will be in the comments. Everyone is welcome to join in. My actual show review will be posted over on TV Squad sometime late tonight.

Megan and Cheyne just won The Amazing Race. Sam and Dan second.

Looks like Zoetwany has been busy. I love the flashing Jackie.

Hey Becky and Jackie. let's get this show on the road!

Becky said...

Hey, Donna. How is the weather there?

joy n said...

I read on TV Watch that Phil has said that Meghan and Cheyne hold the record for most 1st place finishes. Can't wait to see how this turns out tonight.

Viva, Las Vegas!!!

Becky said...

They will probably stack the last flight this time.

Donna in Alabama said...

It's colder than a well digger's a$$, at least for Alabama! How bout you?

joy n said...

This is where I'd be done on TAR.

Lisanne said...

Why do I have an urge to get a roll of quarters and play slots?

Go anyone but the brothers (they just play too dirty for me)

Sydney said...

Hi everyone. I would love it if they won -- arrgh, what are their anem,s.. the couple who got to Mandalay Bay first.

THat is a TALL hotel. Meghan is NOT going to do that one!!!

Becky said...

During our second Beagle reunion we stayed at Mandalay Bay. Talk about snotty, lousy service! Overpriced unhelpful. But they had a terrific Sunday buffet.

Delee said...

They sure have them running back and forth!!!

1. Airport
2. Near the Old Strip downtown
3. Then back past the airport to Mandalay Bay

Sydney said...

Donna, I see you've both curbed your descriptions yet come up with an equally interesting way to convey how chilly it is where you live...

lol

Becky said...

Weather was rather nice today. It was lousy Friday, okay yesterday, but sunny today.

How about the rest of you. Weather report, please.

Donna in Alabama said...

I could do that! Yeah, right... if you knocked me in the head and threw me over the edge!! That would be the end of the race for me too!

Delee said...

Teens here tonight and snow off and on for the week...NOOOOOooooo

Sydney said...

re: commercial : YES I THINK RUSSELL will pull off the boldest Tribal council move ever.

I think Rupert has some competition. Not for being nice, but being a favorite...

Lisanne said...

Here in Indiana its cold and snowy. But I would take that over cold and sleety any day.

Sydney said...

Are they just letting them down or are they having to let themselves down?

Sydney said...

Nevermind, I see she's doing it herself.

Sydney said...

I'd be more scared not looking I think.....

Delee said...

So sick of the Miss America references...guess after tonight I will not have to hear them.

Sydney said...

I wonder if the brother might go faster than Cheyne?

Delee said...

Back down the Strip again...I hope they take Paradise one street over from Las Vegas Blvd faster by far

Sydney said...

AK, I'm commenting with myself! lol

joy n said...

Sam is flying down that building!

Sydney said...

HIs feet are walking but not even touching the building.. But he's going fast... the brother...which ever one he is.

Becky said...

Donna, your comment needed a spit alert.

There would be a yellow stream down the front of the building.

The brother did well on that.

Sydney said...

Wonder where Monty is tonight....

HI JACKIE!!!!

Sydney said...

I WOULD LOVE TO DO THAT!!!!!!! (cirque)

Sydney said...

Not exactly part of a show....

Becky said...

Saw the Circus in LA. Wonderful show. Go if you ever get a chance.

Delee said...

He should grab her at the knee and pull

Becky said...

Grab her higher on the leg.

joy n said...

Ericka's got a real nasty streak!

Delee said...

Venetian is the wrong direction Monte Carlo is beside the Bellagio

Becky said...

Married couple list their chance and their lead. Trailing again.

Delee said...

Towards New York New York

joy n said...

Sheesh, Ericka, calm down!

Becky said...

Heck, the driver could take me by the scenic route and I wouldn't know.

Sydney said...

Aw, I feel so bad for them. I'd be going out of my mind too... but the franticness isn't helping either. They are so close, sleep deprived, jet lagged etc... so easy to melt down without finale pressure.

joy n said...

Well, so much for the Miss America plug.

joy n said...

Donna in AL, LOVE your avatar!

Sydney said...

Joyn -- THank you for the names. Erika. I was hoping they might win tonight, though Cheyne and Meghan have certainly earned it.

Delee, it's so great having someone who knows the city so well telling us all the inside scoop!

Delee said...

Mirage-Treasure Island- Caesar's-Bellagio- then Monte Carlo HAHA

Venetian is Italian

joy n said...

Brian is his name, Syd.

Delee said...

This is almost as bad as ringing the bell was for them

Laurie said...

Hi everyone, sorry I'm late. Of course it's only 5:30 here but I like to chat with you.

Delee, it does seem we need to hear about Miss America and the plight of a racially mixed marriage every week. Won't miss that a bit. I really hope they don't win. He should be leaving her in LV, lol.

Karen in Oregon said...

Hey Everyone I made it better late than never I sure hope the young couple wins tonight. I havent read teh comments yet but will here in a minute. I want to thank you all for keeping us out here on the west coast up on everything ..
Jackie WB glad things are a little better loved your Sunday update

Well, so much for the Miss America plug.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Becky said...

Finally! Erika doesn't look very happy.

Sydney said...

F&$#**#! The Brothers are there FIRST?????

I know anything can happen, so hurry up Erkia and catch up while the brothers mess up on these chips PLEASE!!!

Delee said...

Yikes wish they were $10000 chips

Delee said...

That's why you use Paradise LOL

Becky said...

Guess it pays to have a little geography knowledge. Well, and to remember Princess Grace.

Karen in Oregon said...

What do they have to do with the chips

Sydney said...

Hi Laurie!!!

Lol and I was hoping they would win...

I figure, to a large extent, they cast them partially for those roles -- like father and son, gay couple, old folks, etc...

So I'm sure the producers ask them about it every week and choose to edit it in. (*Hanging head* I hate to disagree).

HOWEVER, it will still be something you won't miss hearing! :-) We agree on that!

joy n said...

Count out $1,000,000. worth.

Sydney said...

If he's not screaming SHUT UP at his brother, he's hurrying him as aggressively?

Becky said...

The brothers getting on my last nerve.

Karen in Oregon said...

TY Joy WOW that is alot of chips lol

Sydney said...

Her husband is counting AS they go...

Sydney said...

<<<<<<<< SO TENSE! >>>>>

Becky said...

I want to yell SHUT UP at the brothers!

Becky said...

And we were never allowed to use the word shut up in our house.

Sydney said...

Great line meghan . THis is all real money if we go faster....

Sydney said...

Now it depends on how fast their counter is....!

Sydney said...

OH! TWO INCORRECT...

And C adn M were last in there. OK, I resign myself. They deserve to win.

Becky said...

Looks like the couples are ahead again?

Becky said...

The married couple can't win a break.

joy n said...

Frank Sinatra? LOL!!!

Sydney said...

Dean Martin, Sammuy David, Frank... I totally would not have thought Wayne Newton and I KNOW it's him.

Ditto the Monte Carlo. I've been there in person twice and could not remember the name for the clue.

I miss coffee. lol It made me so much sharper when I could drink it.

Becky said...

Gosh, they didn't even know his name!

Becky said...

If the brothers win I will throw up!

Becky said...

At least the brothers didn't win!

joy n said...

I wasn't laughing at Ol' Blue Eyes. I just wouldn't think it was someone who was deceased.

Meghan and Cheyne won!!!!!!!!!

Sydney said...

Better buy her a ring now dude.

joy n said...

I'm so happy for them. They had a great race!

Sydney said...

What was that little look from the snarky purple girl. THe other one looked happy for the boys.

Elizabeth Beetschen said...

Yeah! "Not the brothers" won. I call that a good ending. :)

Now if only "Not Russell" wins Survivor...

Sydney said...

I won't miss THEIR screaming. I can imagine how many guys they are going to meet in the future who will say -- um, dude. I know how you get...

Gonna hurt their love lives methinks. Or not, lol.

Becky said...

Do second and third place win anything?

Karen in Oregon said...

WOOOOHOOOOO Meghan and Cheyne deversed to win they played the BEST game in my opinon.. Thanks for the updates you all now we have survivor and then BIG BROTHER oh wait that is in the summer lmao Great season of Tar thanks Jackie for your updates

Sydney said...

OK Enough now...

Laurie, I agree with you. :-D

I retract my former statement!

Becky said...

Let's see, a million dollars, which after taxes will be around five hundred thou, which means two fifty each. Not bad.

Sydney said...

Lol Lisanne.

Becky said...

This is a terrific show. Now, when is the next one and what are we going to do when Survivor is over?

Laurie said...

Yaaay!! This is really good to know.

Sydney, you agree with me? Yippeee!!

Life is good. *grin*

joy n said...

Hope the winter season of TAR starts soon.

Sydney said...

Becky, I can understand that they didn't know him. They are far from his generation.

And I would have thought the rat pack guys too, not someone alive, but I didn't really hear the whole riddle as I was TYPING.

Two more eps of Dexter. It just gets better and better. Amazing!

oh, and BECKY - I love your avatar.

Sydney said...

Great season, this one was. And so is Survivor. I hate it when all the good shows end...

Thank you Jackie for giving us this place to have so much FUN fun FUN!

Sydney said...

Laurie, grinning back.

West Coasters.. Does it suck to know who wins?

joy n said...

That was me, not Becky, Syd. They had been told to find Mr. Las Vegas. I only meant they'd have a hard time finding Frankie.

Becky said...

Thanks. See you guys later. I forgot that the elect. went off yesterday and I lost all of my programming on my VCR. Catch up with you Thursday.

Sydney said...

Becky-- we would come here and talk about everything else under the sun til stuff starts up again.

Sydney said...

Doh... JoyN, then I missed something really important there, lol.

I think you are talking about one of the female pro poker players? I think she is pissed that the boys led her and her teammate on and then it turned out that both boys are gay! Both girls said they didn't care, but I am guessing that one did care. :-D

Laurie said...

Sydney, this west coaster likes to know who wins each week on TAR and who gets the boot on Survivor. I can keep calm during the show or wait to see it until the next day.

Yay to another season of this DECLINING show ending:

The finale's problems were indicative of the big problems:

1.) WHERE WAS THE CHALLENGE THAT REFLECTED ON THE ENTIRE SEASON WHERE YOU HAD TO REMEMBER STUFF FROM EVERY COUNTRY??? They do that just about every season, but not this one. Not surprising considering the big problems:

2.) For the second straight season, it wasn't a race around the world, just a race around EURASIA. Only racing through Europe and Asia. Pathetic and in the finale when they said "Eight Countries" I couldn't help but LAUGH!

3.) Harlem Globetrotters on the race. It was so obvious the show was paid by the Trotters to have them as a season long advertisement.

4.) A former Miss America(!) in the race. Come on. It was HORRIBLE in the prior season to have writer/actor MIKE WHITE ("School of Rock" and many other credits), but a Miss America??? This is getting ridiculous and we all know it.

5.) STILL NO HD!! Come on Come on COME ON!!!! How is this show refusing to go HD? It would benefit so much from HD and get more viewers, I know many who tuned back into Survivor once it went HD.

6.) Still lame gifts for the people who win each leg. We are how many seasons in? 15 or something? And still no trip back to the place where the leg ended so they could see where they race properly and bring back business to the place they abused?

Come on now.

Sydney said... Becky-- we would come here and talk about everything else under the sun til stuff starts up again.

Oh, good. I would go into withdrawal without Jackie's place.

BTW, Donna, I noticed your kitty earlier. Darling.

Donna in Alabama said...

I just finished watching as company popped in after the last comment I made! It happens almost every Sunday.
Yay for Cheynne and Megan won, I was pulling for them. They did play the best game!

Donna in Alabama said...

Thanks to you guys about my avatar! The kitty actually looks like my Fluffy except for the blue eyes!

Sydney said...

WTGMeganANDCheyne -- exactly what I was thinking!!

Becky-- agreed.

And Donna, that IS the cutest little cat picture.

Good ending! I had the brothers in the pool, so would have been OK with them winning, but really wanted Megan & Cheyne, like most everyone else. They played the best game and were the most likeable.

I started out liking my guys, but then their yelling and dirty tricks got on my every nerve!

ChicMc said...

Thanks to all for a fun season.
I'm happy to have bragging rights until next season even though I got my team through a lottery( thanks Margo).

AlbGlinka checking in late from work! (Monday night)

So I'm not the only one who thought that the Barbie & Ken Doll were TOTALLY boring??? I was not excited that they won. Oh well...

I know the boys had *issues*...

I had fun watching the season, but I would have preferred another ending.

joy n said...

Read an interview with Sam and Dan on People TV Watch. Among other things, they said that Brian and Ericka were okay with them over the cab incident because they (the bros) told the driver to send another cab for them, which wasn't shown on the show.

Also said that it was the narrow slippery walkway that made the GT slip and fall, but it bothered them that the GTs tried to blame it on them.

And the reason for the blurred shots of their shorts was the "prominent (wet)outline" and NOT the hotties standing around. Said they have "good genes". LOL!!!

Gene said...

Why are we not getting any Survivor news since the recap episode??? I need my Survivor 'FIX'... Please review some more...

joy n said...

Elimination Station has a great clip (under 7 mins.) of the teams waiting for and greeting the winners. Pretty cool.

Jackie, have you read A. Waldman's post on TV Squad?

Kansas City Star Meghan Rickey and Cheyne Whitney ultimately prevailed and was the first team to reach the finish line and the face of the only person they wanted to see at that moment, the reality host Phil Keoghan.

12/06/2009 10:02 PM FTW. Seriously, one of the best comments here and right on for the most part. I wonder why people ignore it. So many valid points are made.

joy n said...

#First of all: TAR is most definitely not a 'declining' show. It's probably the best of the reality genre. Just look at the numerous awards they've won.

#1: The challenge that reflects the entire season, as you mentioned yourself, is not done every season. Maybe it will be back next season.

#2: It's the Amazing Race, not the race around the world. It was an enjoyable season and a very informative one as always.

#3: The Harlem Globetrotters, I'm sure, applied to be on the show like the rest of them. I highly doubt this famous organization needed a year-long advertisement.

#4: Miss America, the Globe Trotters and Mike White are really kind of small-time celebs. I wouldn't have recognized any of them as celebrities until TAR said who they were. What's the big deal?

#5: HD? I don't have it and have no plans in the near future to get it. I've never missed an episode of Survivor or TAR and enjoy it immennsely without HD. A true fan would watch TAR, HD or no HD.

#6: This is one point where I partially can agree with you. Just this and last season, I've noticed the chintzier prizes.

Prizes aside, these teams get the trip of a lifetime, are introduced to new cultures and people, see sites most have only dreamed of, experience new foods and also experience stunts some never thought they would or could have the opportunity to do.

Sorry if you decide to stop watching for any of the reasons you've mentioned, but I, along with their other millions of fans will watch until it is no more. And I have a feeling we'll be watching for many seasons to come.

Hope you reconsider.

Anonymous said...

"#3: The Harlem Globetrotters, I'm sure, applied to be on the show like the rest of them. I highly doubt this famous organization needed a year-long advertisement.
"

You know nothing about the Trotters then. It's so obvious that the organization got them on the show that you seem extremly naive saying this.

"It's the Amazing Race, not the race around the world. It was an enjoyable season and a very informative one as always.
"

Point is, you can't deny that the last few seasons they have DRASTICALLY reduced the number of continents. And I think they actually call it a race around the world in promos or Phil or something.

"Miss America, the Globe Trotters and Mike White are really kind of small-time celebs. I wouldn't have recognized any of them as celebrities until TAR said who they were. What's the big deal?
"

You are in the minority in not recognizing them. The big deal is that reality shows are supposed to have UNKNOWN, not even minor celebrities. Survivor was guilty of this too when they had a former WWE "Diva." Just because you don't recognize them doesn't mean they are not celebrities. Celebs have no place on reality shows that should have regular people.

"#5: HD? I don't have it and have no plans in the near future to get it. I've never missed an episode of Survivor or TAR and enjoy it immennsely without HD. A true fan would watch TAR, HD or no HD.
"

Again, you are in a shrinking minority if you have no HD whatsoever and no plans to get HD. More and more people are on the HD train, and The Amazing Race is a glaring omission from HD. Survivor ratings actually went UP when they went HD, the same would likely happen from The Amazing Race (maybe more so because of the locales used)

I didn't say I was going to stop watching (or did I? If I did, sorry didn't mean that), but TAR has more than its fair share of LEGITIMATE complaints and if more people voiced them (or voiced them by not tuning in), TAR might actually make some changes.

Is it SO unreasonable to expect the following from TAR:

1.) No celebs, true unknowns

2.) Other than the US (North America), at least 4 continents (just about every season up to the last two, not counting the lame family ed.), not 2(!!) like the last FEW seasons

3.) Prizes for MOST legs where you get to return to the country of the pit stop. After all, these teams FLY through countries and don't get a chance to "stop and smell the roses."

4.) Finally go HD and stop whining about HD cameras and all that (they've gone on record [see avsforum.com] to complain about costs). I want to say that TAR is the only non-HD show in CBS' Primetime Lineup and its past due to suck it up and go HD.
