Survivor Samoa Season Finale Blog Party Post

Argh, football doesn't care that we have a season finale and reunion show to watch. Football doesn't care that we're already booked for TV watching until 11 PM. That's right -- tonight's show is delayed here in the NYC viewing area. I believe 60 Minutes started at about 7:22 PM ET instead of 7:00 PM. While football doesn't care about our lack of sleep tonight, graphic artist Zoetawny cared enough to make us a new logo for the show. (She rocks, as we all know.)

Once the show starts, this entry will be updated with major events. But the real details and fun will be in the comments area. Everyone is welcome and you can even bring food and beverages. I do ask that no one swings from the chandelier, please. I'm going to open up the post now and I'll let you know when the show starts here.

8:22 PM ET and we're finally starting here. (Grr.)

Apparently it started on time in some places and Brett has won immunity again. Jaison was voted out according to those who have the show airing on time.

Russell has won immunity! (Finally!)

Brett voted out.

Natalie wins. That is SO wrong. At least Russell won the 100 thousand from the fan vote.

Jackie--this is Rebecca from Plainfield, by the way!

Russell deserved it ALL! He is the best player ever--little Lucky Charms--looking leprechaun! Glad he at least won the 100 grand!

I think Natalie should split the money with Eric. His comments showed the rest of the jury a way to justify voting for Natalie even if they thought Russell was the best player. He won it for her.

Russel deserved to lose,he played a brillant game to get to the final three however,he didn't play the people game. He always under estimated the power of the jury.
He didn't play a game that made the jury okay with him being the cause of their demise. He was too smug and had a deal with everybody. People talk and compare.
It doesn't matter to the jury that what you did was to further your game, they don't care that you want to win, because that was their goal as well.
Also, to rub it in at the questioning only opened the feelings of betrayal and anger again.
Why would anyone vote for him?
So did we ever learn who voted for whom?
I was pretty sure Mick wasn't going to get any votes.
Everybody was happy when "nice " girl Jordan won Big Brother and I am happy that a relative nice girl won Survivor.
I'm glad that Shambo can still be such a positive upbeat person after all the abuse she received.

Look forward to Heroes v Villians.
Bet Russel will be back for that.

Like so many of the also rans of shows past, the fourth and most important part of the Survivor game is the one that Russell forgot - the social game. That is why he didn't win...

That finish Sucked!! Russ is the best player of all time! Name one better!

I think the jury voted to "punish" Russell even though he was clearly the best player Survivor has seen in a long time....if ever. Natalie benefited from the hostility of the jury who didn't base their votes on outwit, outplay and outlast. Natalie's best move was to ride Russ's coattails and then benefit that he called the hard shots. Jaison developed a conscience after he was voted out. He was quite content to hide behind Russell too. Glad America recognized Russell's play and gave him the $100,000. I hope it is some consolation for a bunch of losers voting "spite" rather than "player."

Joe in NY: good to see your Willie. Sure hope his joint has recovered.
Now on to season 19...Russell know when to take the hint at being humble...how you got thru w/o your name being written down is mind numbing.
All the BITTER females voted for Nat...so glad Russ got the $100 thou. I do see him as a great gamer, he does need Syd. as a stylist tho.
Not happy not seeing all the final votes...makes me wonder? Or did I miss it?
All in all another good season... see y'all February 11th.
Hugs to Jackie, good job once again!
I'm tossing a milk bone to Willie...Have a super fun spring lunch y'all!!

Couldn't be here last night.

Well, that was a shocker. I thought Russell would have this win in the bag. I dislike him so much but he did play a hell of a game.

He just did himself in in the end, didn't he? Doing the jury in was one thing but to beat them when they're down was another. That tribal council speech was dumb, dumb, dumb. The social part of the game IS just as important as the strategic part when you get down to it and that was his biggest flaw. I think he had an inkling of that just before the votes were read when he said he wasn't so sure anymore about the votes after what had been said by the jurors.

The man just doesn't get that he did himself in. And now, he is the bitter one. Hopefully, he'll learn something by this and maybe he'll do better in Villains vs Heroes.

It would have been different if Evil Russell had gotten by on cunning and manipulation, but he deliberately sabotaged his teammates by destroying their things. He destroyed the their spirits by doing that. Lying about Hurricane Katrina was just as whack.

And really, Shambo? You were the biggest traitor of them all. You weren't loyal to anybody but yourself and look what happened to you. You deserved that. By the way, what the hell does "theckless" mean??

I missed the first part of the reunion show. I know Mick got zero votes. Did they just show Natalie getting the five? How many did they show Russell getting?

**FINAL POOL UPDATE**

Woo Hoo I WIN AGAIN!! Who woulda thunk it that the girl in the yellow dress would win the whole shebang? She should thank Eric for that win. I wish the jury would vote for the best player not who they dislike the least. Russell did win the fan fave $100,000 plus whatever 2nd place gets. What is it $50,000? Not bad for 39 days of your life. Not a million but way more than Mick got.

1st Natalie - Margo, Sue Gee
2nd Russell H - Becky, Jennasmom
3rd Mick - Monty924, Jackie

Marisa - Joanie, Terry in CA
Mike - Lynn1, Zoetawny due to heath
Betsy - Donna in AL, Sydney
Ben - gaylos, Karen in CA
Yasmin - Laurie, Joanie
Ashley - ChicMc, Estelle
Russell S - Sizzie, Dusty
Elizabeth - Nana in NW, txrednkgirl
Erik - Delee, Rbennie
Kelly - Lisanne, Meb
Laura - DKNYNC, ML
John - Joe in NY, EileenM
Dave - Caroline, Laura in Miss
Monica - PDXGranny,
Shambo - Auntie Leigh,
Jaison - Donna in FL, chris
Brett - Lars, Tessa

Margo aka the Lifeguard

PS I swear the name draws are random. I did badly in all the other pools - just my luck of the draw and Natalie's smarts in not ruffling Russell's feathers and getting her self voted off.

People TV Watch says the vote was 5-4. Don't know how they know but I'm wondering how the vote would have gone.

We know that Erik voted for Natalie and Jaison probably voted for Natalie (he pretty much said so on Ponderosa) and Shambo voted for Russell. I think Kelly and Laura may have voted for Natalie. Maybe Monica also?

That would leave John, Dave and Brett. Any thoughts?

joy n said...

Now I'm not so sure about who voted who to win. Just watched the secret videos (before final tribal) and Dave seemed to lean towards a vote for Nat. Kelly seemed to want to vote for Mick. John - Nat. Laura said she'd wait for their answers at tribal but thought all three were unworthy.

They should have told us.

On the topic of Russell being the best player ever, I would only put him in the top ten. Some reasons why imo.
He was saved a few times because of his tenaciuos searching for and finding the hidden ii.
His social game was non existent.
He made too many and unnecessary deals with people soon to be on the jury.
And of course what can give victory one season with that particular group of people is what will give you defeat with the next group of people.
Remember Amanda,(I think that is her name) in her back to back losses, first to I don't remember his name(lovable, nice guy) and then to Parvarti(lovable?,schemer, back stabber).
Players on par with Russell just off the top of my head, Yul, Yau-man, Parvarti, Boston Rob,and Rudy.
A player doesn't have to be evil or mean to be a good player.

I'm guessing the final vote was Nat-7 Russell-2. If any more were cast for anyone other than Nat, Jeff would have drawn it out longer for suspense.

joy n said...

I just read another interview on People TV Watch, this one with Russell. He said only two people voted for him. Shambo and John.

Guess we have an answer.

YouReapWhatYouSow said...

If the vote had actually been 5 - 4, no matter which way it had gone, Jeff would have milked it all the way. No way would they leave the votes in the "box" unless it was a relative landslide.

Here's Jeff Probst's finale blog post. It pretty much sums up my thoughts on the season as well.

Happy reading!

Thanks for the heads-up, Monty, a very good read.

Russell did play a great game and Jeff summed it up pretty well. He does say that Survivor is a social game. And that was Russell's major flaw. He created that bitter jury and should have taken his gameplay one step further. His own cockiness refused to let him stroke a few feathers which probably would have won him the whole shebang. He just had to do it his way and that cost him. He ouwitted, outplayed, but didn't outlast because of it.

No Survivor fan will ever forget him.

Reality TV World has posted that the 16th season of The Amazing Race will start on Feb. 14. The cast will be announced at a later date.

It was also announced that CBS will be airing a one-hour special called "Survivor Survivor" featuring updates of castaways and some of the most memorable moments over 10 years on Feb. 11. It's part of the 2 hour premiere.

Yes, at least Russell got America's vote, but still, I am majorly pissed he didn't win Survivor! Not cool.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year Folks!

The jurys' faces when Russell was making his pitch said it all: why would you vote to give someone a million who took such malicious glee in voting you off? He did NOT deserve the million. Arrogant little man.

Thanks again for the blog, Jackie! Hope you and Vincent are well...

I didn't have a chance to read comments til now; no one will probably ever even read this. Hope everyones' holidays have been merry and bright- we all know they've been white!
Becky, hahaha, yes some of those boys are real cuties!
I have been rooting for Natalie for some time now. I wrote here before, that Natalie did play a strategic game; it was just a whole lot smoother and a lot less boastful than Russell's. Ever since she orchestrated Mick's ouster, I realized Natalie was playing much smarter than people gave her credit for.
I wonder, since the new Survivor has already filmed, perhaps Russell didn't do very well, and already knew his only shot for the million was against Natalie now. An all-star cast is bound to be less gullible and far more shrewd than this bunch of castaways. He certainly did come off as quite the sore loser.
As for Mick, feckless fits as far as his role in Survivor is concerned. He was totally uninspiring as a 'leader'. But to his credit, he probably realizes he still has a long career ahead as an anesthesiologist. Yes, Survivor is an adventure of a lifetime, but not everyone takes that as carte blanche to act despicably.
Happy New Year to all!
ML
