Blog Discussion - Project Runway 2010

Project Runway's latest season premieres tomorrow night on the Lifetime Network. Since so many of this blog's readers are fans of the show, here's a new show discussion post for you! Mind you, this show isn't on my own viewing schedule, so I won't be blogging about it. However, you can feel free to hang out in the comments section with friends discussing the episodes! Margo has already got the blog pool going and the water is fine.

The show's official website can be located right here.

OK Hannah... looks like we've got Amy (whoever Amy is). I haven't had time to go look, but I will. Hope she's good. I have bragging rights until the 14th as my gal won last season... and guess what... I've forgotten her name! So, what else is new.

Hope Janeane is good. Thanks, Margo and Jackie.

joy n said...

Janeane seems sweet but she may be the season crier. Hope she brings some bang to that little black dress.

joy n said...

Where is everybody?

joy n said...

Well, my girl is safe this week.

joy n said...

I just realized....maybe I'm the only one in the eastern time zone watching?

joy n said...

I won't spoil it for anyone.

joy n said...

Good show. Really liked most of the clothes.

Laurie said...

Joyn! You might be the only one in your time zone but I think Sidney planned to watch it. It's not on here yet ... and even so I won't see it until later, so my contributions will have to be after it's over and everyone (including me) already knows who wins and who is "aufd" each week. That's okay, I enjoy it anyway and can relax when I know how it turns out.

Margo said...

I just got home from the theatre so I don't know what happened yet. I'll update the auf'd list tomorrow.

Sydney said...

Hey JoyN-- thanks for holding down the fort for the first night... I could not be at my TV tonight but TIVO'd it so I can catch up with everybody....

What was your impression of my Emelio?

joy n said...

I like Emilio and loved his dress.

Ping is a bit of a crier, too.

One of the models irks me a bit. Can't remember her name but she's 32 (old for a model?) and doesn't take direction very well.

Joy n, sorry I couldn't be here last night. I couldn't see the show until today. I have a feeling that my person Jesus will not last long.

Anthony made me smile.

joy n said...

I love Anthony's sense of humor. Hope he sticks around for awhile.

meb said...

I can't read these comments yet because I haven't seen it yet. I have it taped...

Jackie I don't know how you keep up with everything. I'm behind on everything.

Someone said joyn was here (as I said haven't looked) and basically no one else had shown up. Sorry joyn, I want to discuss it, but I don't know if I'll ever get here during the actual show. Most of the stuff I have is taped first.

Going to go watch now! Later!

joy n said...

That's okay, Meb. Last season I taped it, too, which is why I didn't comment then. Some nights I may still do that, but will check in often.

PDX Granny said...

I just watched, and am not so sure I like my gal, Pamela. I guess time will tell, but my first impression was that she was too much like the gal that won last year.

I like Janeane too. I hope she goes far.

Anthony is a hoot! I hope he stays around just for the comic relief, if nothing else. : )

Has anybody watched the show following ~ Models of the Runway?

I didn't realize until tonight that it was the models from Project Runway. I caught the last half of it, but will probably add it to my recording schedule.

PDX Granny said...

JACKIE,

Just in case you read this before your emails, I sent you a timely one.

Rockwrites said...

Lol JoyN,

she's 32 (old for a model?) and doesn't take direction very well.

That's probably why models are 12, lol

joy n said...

PDX Granny, that Models of the Runway started last season. I think it's pretty cool to get to know them, too. Sometimes you like your designer but aren't so crazy about the model they choose or the other way around.

Nana from the NW said...

Rochelle--are you saying 12 yr. old take direction?? My girls DIDN'T and if they did it was with a major eye roll and stomp of the foot!!

Joyn--I tape the show and watch it over the weekend so my comments are always late, but laughed at you replying to yourself! LOL OT--Hope things are going well with your hubby.

Sizzie--out the 1st week, that sucks. Feel free to climb up on my floatee...I have Ben.

Now who is Ben?? I think he was shown about 2 times and didn't speak. He certainly didn't look the designer type. Oh well, we made it through the first week. I hope he has more airtime next week.

I was glad to see Christaine go. She was pretty cocky and then because she had designed for some stars that she had the contest won already.

See you all next week.....

meb said...

Well I have Amy and I can't even remember what she designed. Guess it doesn't say much for her. Sizzie, I didn't quite care for your designer, but I thought her dress was ok except that she didn't finish the hem. Why in the world didn't she at least press it down. Other than that, I thought the dress itself was ok, but somebody had to go.

I know I haven't heard anyone else say so, but I liked the poopie brown evening dress. Guess I'm back in the 70's or whatever year they said it came from, but I still thought it looked good. It sure fit the model to a 'T'!

I'm not watching the models. Can't add another show. But would love to hear about them from those of you who are. I don't think anyone would mind if you posted here about them.

Enjoying the show already and looking forward to the next episode.

AlbGlinka said...

AlbGlinka checking in here late. I thought the losing dress was pretty fugly. But not as bad as the one from the older lady who used to be in advertising-- it had weird triangular sleeves, maybe it looked better in person.

Two of the designers, Jay and Amy are from the Bay Area, SF, so I have to root for them.

Laurie said...

We watched the show finally and I was very glad to see the loser go so quickly. She has serious attitude and seemed to think she was "all that and more." Buh-bye!

Many of the designers were unmemorable but we'll get to know them better soon. There was something about the older woman with the bangs that annoyed me, too. I think it was her attitude of superiority and a certain haughtiness about her. She seemed very cold.

As to the outfits, nothing stood out to me this week. Maybe next week ...

Sydney said...

SPOILER ALERT for anoyne who has not yet see the first ep---

FINALLY -- I saw the first episode.... and my boy Emelio, who I thought must have faded into the woodwork after seeing no comments involving him here, ends up winning the first challenge. Whew!

For those of you who only watched their first season last time, you have to understand that was considered their duller than dull flop of all the seasons. Maybe it was being in LA for the only time, maybe it was because they inexplicable moved from Bravo to Lifetime and there were transitional glitches, but I know several of you took up my plea to join me in watching and now are hooked. I'm so glad and just hope you like it even more this season.

Sydney said...

I'm a fan of Anthony's as well, but you could tell his first comment on the runway was charming the judges, but Heidi was already over it by just the second comment he made when he knew he was safe...

Sizzie, my condolences. I also invite you to hop on with me and root for Emilio.... we are fighting over you already!

joy n said...

Sydney, I didn't mention the Emilio win because I didn't want to spoil it for you. That's probably why no one else mentioned it either.

I've also read that Heidi said the show may go back to L.A. again. I believe she meant occasionally.

I thought that Pamela's dress was one that some slight alterations would fix and didn't think that she should've gone.

Ping's was totally unwearable unless an exhibitionist bought it.

Jesse's was made without any regard to the rules of the challenge. I really believe the wrong one was sent home.

Mila pretty much insulted everyone there in re her model not choosing her and that it was "her loss" to go with someone else. Maybe Ms M. was really peeved about being picked last for the challenge.

I thought Amy's was closest to what had been asked for in the challenge and she probably should have won. Just my O.

Laurie said...

I'm watching the show now. I wish i could remember the names of the designers! Too early in the game for me!

Lots of last minute sewing this week!!

Laurie said...

I couldn't believe Ping stayed! They must want to see more from her but she better watch it.

My husband and I thought Amy should win, that she was the most creative while still staying true to her "organic" roots. That was a cute dress, too. I was just so glad Mila didn't win. Wasn't she just a bitch about being chosen last? And so rude to Jonathon who had nothing to do with being chosen by "her" model. Yikes! She is just a scary woman.

Some of the dresses that scored high enough to move on but not win were really cute, I thought, especially since they were made with burlap. Just sewing that stuff would be a chore!

Rockwrites said...

I can't believe what those people made out of burlap sacks. I mean, only one or two of them looked like what they started with.

I think they know ping has great creativity and wanted to give her another week...

I love Lauren Hutton. Tell me how can I age like that? Tan, freckled, always pretty, natural clothing and STILL THIN. She did a nude shoot in all her natural glory (meaning, no big surgery or injections) and I think I stood up and applauded her in the bookstore I was in looking at it.

meb said...

I couldn't believe that Ping stayed either. Even if the strapless dress the other girl made wasn't what they wanted, at least she wasn't showing her model's a$$. Why in the world wouldn't Ping have lowered the dress... Tim even told her to. And yet, she's still there.

I have Amy and I loved her outfit... Finally figured out which one she was and she made me proud... I think she almost won. Makes me think she has hope.

joy n said...

I wasn't crazy about most of the outfits last night and Ping's was really awful. Glad she's gone. She seems to live in her own little world. I'm sure she may do well in the future for a certain clientele.

Anthony made the cut only by the seat of his pants.

Mila's outfit was nice but not my style. I don't like batwings.

I am afraid if Ping had not been eliminated last night I would have been tempted to turn off the show until she left. I am glad the model spoke up and saved the partner's behind.

Anthony scimmed by on his chinny-chinny-chin. Both of his outfits were gosh awful!

I hate it when a person with immunity sluffs off and makes the partner do all the work. Surely the judges see film clips so they are aware of the ones who slide by on their partners talent -- or in Ping's case drag a very good designer down with them.

I would like to comment on the model elimination show that follows PRway... I would like to see more interaction between the models and the designers. Jesus claiming Sofia was "hard to work with" appears (from what was shown) was her pulling away when they were spraying and messing around her face in makeup. The girl was highly allergic to whatever they were spraying/doing. I wonder what the judges would have said if Sofia had walked down the runway broken out in hives? I don't care for Jesus much, and I have his name.

joy n said...

Becky, I thought that Jesus was unfair in his comment about Sofia, too. I was sorry to see her go but won't be, to see Jesus leave either.

Rockwrites said...

Well, Ping was so annoyingly frenetic and loopy I was happy to see her go. But I am wondering if she was also very lovable outside of the edit of her. When they showed her speaking to the camera she was quite articulate and honest. And when she was saying goodbye to the crew at the end she said I want you to remember a happy Ping not a crying one, which I thought was very sweet.

And when it came time for Tim to tell her to collect her stuff and go, even he, who'd been caught at least once by the cameras rolling his eyes at her, said a very sincere sounding extra... something like "It won't be the same workroom without you there Ping." I know that could be taken as the only thing he could muster but he sounded very complimentary saying it.

Who knows... anyway, on with the show!

Sydney said...

Once again, I had no idea why the black modern pants and jacket with the white graphic through it won. I think that was Mila's. I understand they like to see separates for a change, and maybe it was well sewn, but I liked the black and pink gown and also the black one with the gray wavy long pieces coming from the shoulder all the way down, with only one shoulder. Can't remember the names of the designers but I'm sure y'all know what I'm talking about.

Margo said...

I don't care for the team challenges. I think if a TEAM loses both should go home. I wonder if the Judges found out about Team Mila no being so much a team. I thought it was not fair of Mila to only work on the coat and let (I can't remember his name) do everything else. The guy mad 3 sep pieces to her 1 and she gets immunity. I think the should win as a team or lose as a team. Jay was so not fair to his teammate since he had immunity. Enough on the ranting. Til Thursday.
Margo

Sydney said...

That's a good point Margo--- why team people up if only one goes home as a loser... though I think they reserve the right to send two people home.

The benefit I see of the team challenges, much as I don't like watching them, is that it brings out characteristics in each person that we would possible not otherwise see. Still, I get annoyed that it puts the designers I like best at risk. On the other hand, I really don't think they've gotten rid of a designer that they know is rally good, even if they grew a third head of bitchiness on the team challenge. I noticed that the last three seasons. No matter how much they may scare you with their comments that a good one is going home, they end up being all foam and no beer and keep them at the 11th hour.

Margo said...

What an interesting visual - "Foam and no beer".

Becky said...

Frankly I am surprised that Jesus did not go home earlier. Most of his creations have been gosh awful. I too wondered about his taste. At the end when he said he was 21 I thought, oh, he is just starting and will probably evolve into a decent designer. He just isn't ready for the big time yet.

Sydney said...

Same here re: Jesus too Becky. It was the first time I saw Heidi balk at saying something harsh to a contestant in all the seasons when she told him she doubted his taste level.

But they did say he was talented at actual construction, so maybe he as a career ahead.

Margo, thank you for the link to Tim's. You'd think I'd see these things myself but I just don't have enough time in a day!

meb said...

YAY... Amy's my girl... and she won... She showed promise last episode, so I'm really happy I have her in the pool.

I enjoyed Tim's comments too Margo, thanks for posting the link.

I was surprised they were giving Mila (I think) such good comments regarding the dress with the stars... I liked the star at the waist, but the big one I thought looked ridiculous. Obviously I'm not a designer.

As for Amy's... it was really pretty as it flowed when her 'model' walked.

PDX Granny said...

Margo, thanks for the link to Tim's comments. It's interesting to see what his thoughts are, considering he sees so much more than we do.

I must say, I agree with most of his comments, and wonder about the judges selections. I like Amy's dress and am glad she won.

As far as the other two "top three", I didn't like either. In my opinion, the "stars" dress could have used one less star. The larger of the two made the dress look too much like a costume. I liked the concept of the other, the "heart" dress, but not so much the finished product. It looked like it was just so much bunched up material going across the front and down the side.

I was surprised that Jeannane (sp) wasn't in the bottom three. Her dress didn't look like it was finished well, with the hems of the layers bunched up. Maybe that was the look she was going for, but I didn't like it;

joy n said...

Jeanane is "my" designer and I didn't like her dress much either. I also thought she might be in the bottom three. She needs to step it up soon. That "middle ground" won't keep her safe forever.

joy n said...

My girl, Jeanane, almost went out this week. I have a feeling she may not be long for this comp.

I think they got the top and bottom 3's right this week. I liked all three of the top creations and thought that Anthony's was smashing. I almost hoped Mila was going out. Her dress was an awful color. It was puckered and also had a hole in the middle of the skirt part. Bad sewing. Jeanane's was nothing new looking and Anna's was kind of pretty but not magazine cover material.

Sydney said...

I recorded it last night JoyN but haven't watched it yet, though I did catch a little of the Models show after it. I'm not really watching that, are you though?

SYDNEY said...

Hi everyone. My computer is in the Mac shop, waiting to see if it's salvageable or if I'll have to buy a new one so my visits have been brief here. I did get to see a TIVO'd PR, but there were two, so I'm not sure if I'm out of order... it was the ep where they had to make something for Heidi.

I actually would prefer that they had given the designers more than a day to do this. It was such a huge reward, it would have been nice to see what each could come up with given at least a reasonable time to think, shop and sew. I don't think just because you can wing it under the circumstances that it makes you worthy of getting a whole fashion show in the end. In other words, they have had too many quick turn arounds for me and I think you can lose a few people who had talent enough to be serious contenders because of some mishap that was a rare thing.

Yes, in the world of entertainment and fashion you need to make the impossible happen under any cricumstances... so it's critical to know how to do that in the big bad world. And it creates ddrama for the show to push people to the limit time and time again, with little sleep inbetween. But having watched every season, I'm starting to tire of back to back challenges like this. How about you?

Sydney said...

Yay, got my 'puter back.

Now I just have to stop watching the Olympics every night to see the last show I've got on TIVO!!!!

joy n said...

Just read that Tim Gunn says that the show will probably not return to L.A. again.

joy n said...

Got my pute back without the virus and a day later, my sound is gone. Sheesh!

Sydney said...

I don't know why but my tivo does not seem to be recording a show every week. And our comments here have kinda died down. I wish Jackie you liked this show as I know people would be as into it as they are TAR and such...

It's funny though, there has not been much drama this year. Been no time to show any, with their deadlines all seemingly being one day or 12 hours for each challenge. There is no time to see any fun comments or hear much about what goes on in the work room or after hours because they are so focused on the task at hand.

I finally saw the kids ep. My guy Emelio is not winning anything or being in the bottom, though I hear the other designers respect his experience. Seen very little of him though. But maybe that's the way to make it to the end.

I did love the blue dress that Heidi will wear on the cover of Marie Claire. What a lucky break or that designer, He's my favorite.

Becky said...

Hey, anyone here?

Becky said...

Hey, Sydney. I loved this episode.

Becky said...

I loved this "Romper Room on Crack" comment. I would be pulling my hair out. I know they are children, but someone should tell them indoor voices and manners.

Laurie said...

Hi ladies! Still over an hour until Survivor and then PR, but I wanted to drop by and say hello. We do need to get some drama going on with the designers ... drama and romance sell!

Becky said...

Hey, Laurie. Survivor is a great show tonight.

Becky said...

Anyone here? My WV is oclapr. Sounds like my day yesterday!

Sydney said...

I loved it when the funny guy who won the Heidi/Marie Claire challenge asked the kids if they had an off switch.

So I better watch what I say. Here I was complaining that my guy in the pool, Emilio, has never been before the judged for good or ill and there he was in the absolute bottom this week.

I think they know he's talented so they didn't let him go, though I thought his outfit was far worse than the dirty vaccume bag hershey's kiss one. And that designer they let go proably did have more talent that some others left. But it's down to 10 really talented peeps and someone has to go each week.

And any of the top three could have won. Too bad more than one can't. It was an accessories challenge and they said the woman with the key necklace had the best accessory yet they gave the prize to the guy with the garbage bag belt. I know they said it was really good too, but it was more about the whole outfit? I don't know. I think the key necklace outfit was pretty cool too. Both took a lot of work. What did you guys think?

Sydney said...

Becky-- sorry. I was all set to watch PR and my husband wanted to put on two back to back eps of battle star Gallactica on DVD. And I had three little squirrels to feed by that time too so I didn't go into the other TV room and live blog.

Laurie said...

I'm just now watching the show from last night. My fingers are hurting watching them deal with all the sharp stuff!

Sydney said...

I know. I am amazed that they can come up with a concept, then shop in such a short time. That alone would be a challenge for me... but then to have to make it? Would still be a challenge if given 48 or 72 hours!

Sydney said...

Shocking how many came out great in this challenge.

Anyone else watching tonight?

Sydney said...

Guess no one showed up so I don't feel so bad. Watching half way thru the rerun at 11:00 PM. I really like this element challenge and think these 9 designers are doing really creative interpretations. Tim sounded pretty happy with everyone walking through the workroom too.

But the judges await... we shall see how it all works out.

Laurie said...

Just wondering how tonight's show went. It's going to be on here in just a few minutes but I need to go to bed. I'll catch it over the weekend, hopefully.

joy n said...

Amy's gone. Thought it should have been Jay. His whole outfit was terrible.

lynn1 said...

I completely disagree with the judges decision tonight.
I won't post my opinion right now so as not to post a spoiler for someone to read before they see the show.
The one designer who always disappoints me/turns me off did so again tonight. I really thought that designer would be aufed.

joy n said...

I didn't think Anthony's outfit was so bad. Mila at least used some color this time but that's the only good thing I can say about it. She should have gone home.

lynn1 said...

Joyn I agree with you that Mila should have been the one to go. I definitely think Anthony's dress was something women would wear. I didn't think Jonathan's dress was as bad as Mila's but his backward jacket was just weird.
Personally I think Mila has been a one trick pony but for some reason she hasn't been called on it.
I thought that Seth Aaron should have won this challenge. Obviously I am not a fashionista because the things I like best rarely win.

Sydney said...

I don't get how my TIVO is missing recording the shows, but I missed the week Anthony went home. However, tonight I caught the ep where he comes back in... and amazingly he WON with that very plain b&w dress. I love him, and I could see it moved well when his model walked but it was two pieces of fabric with no detail on top and a skinny "belt"... how did that win w/Jessica Alba wanting to wear it?

And this week, I thought Seth Aaron's circus inspired was so much like MIla's and between the two, Seth's is miles above hers in quality, line and design...

joy n said...

I hated to see Anthony go but understand that he still has some things to learn. Polyester?

It surprised me that Jay was tied with Mila for the third spot. I not too keen on either of them and doubt either one could win this.

I like Emilio's style. He's done some nice stuff but his ego is irksome at times.

Seth has also done some really nice work and seems to be the more likable of the two IMO.

Guess it's a tossup.

I am not surprised but disappointed with the outcome of last night's show.
I feel that Heidi made the decision and that Nina and Michael disgreed but went along with her. It is her show after all.
I am cheering for Seth all the way. I am so tired of Emilio's ego. I do like some of his designs but he is a PITA to me.
I see Mila as a one trick pony. I find her clothes to be boring. I thought Jay's designs were much more interesting and current.
Plus I think Mila is a mean girl.
Mila's model, Brandeis, is a mean girl too.
I think the reunion show will be fun to watch. I can't wait to see Maya answer Nina's question of "Why did you really quit?"
I am looking forward to the end of this season. Some of the personality clashes and drama have taken away the enjoyment of the show for me.
I doubt it is any different from other seasons. My tolerance for that kind of stuff has changed though.

I'm also cheering loudly for Seth Aaron. I like his stuff. Emilio bugs the heck out of me. He never listens to advice and seems to think his way is the only way to go. If E. does win with that ego, I pity whomever has to work with him in the future. It will always be his way or the highway.

Mila is a one-trick-pony and also usually ignores good advice.

Jay needs more experience as did Anthony. Less IS more.

I think Seth Aron is most talented!!!!!

Sydney said...

OMG I am so excited for this finale and for the after-show.

Becky said...

Hey, everyone. I agree that Seth is the most talented. And that Emilo is a diva and that Mila is a one trick pony.

Sydney said...

Like Mila's purple and black dress whith that wacky necklace and the balck coat that followed. Certainly helped young it up to have messy hair and dark make up.

Sydney said...

I liked her last dress too... but the judges love her stuff and I just don't think it's as true couture as Seth Aron's

Sydney said...

Why are her parents not in the front row but Seth Aron's fam is? And I see Emelio didn't dress up for the show.

Becky said...

What did they do about the missing models?

Between Mila and Seth, I like his better.

Sydney said...

Emelio's blue coat with teal turtleneck and black pants was beautiful.

Love how Tim was back there watching with the designers, hugging them. Well, two of them....

Becky said...

I must confess that I loved most of Emilo's stuff. Of course I don't have the style that some of you have.

Sydney said...

I have Emelio in the pool but I really don't want him to win. Not just because of his ego, but I don't like his stuff as much. I know he's won three show awards, so that does say a lot. I definitely liked his blue and black dress in the make your own fabric show for example... but so many people have already done that initial graffiti style prints- Gwen Stefani's LAMB and Louis Vitton to name two.

Sydney said...

Well, Emelio's line looked wearable and mature, but park avenue mature, so you have all kinds of taste Becky. I don't know why he threw in the last two looks -- the metallic skirt had totally different fabric--oranges and gold when the rest had been blue, red and pea green. And the last one was a kind of greeny gold, though of course it flowed well.

The commenter who said that Mila's and Emelio's were wearable are right, but most runway shows are fantasy pieces and outrageous and then what goes in the stores is a toned down version of those...

But Seth Aron is not a toned down guy. Still people who are in to fashion and have the $$would buy it as they all make such a statement.

Sydney said...

oh the judges are talking to Emelio. He is having a hard time taking any ideas from them. His face is not able to mask a thing.

Sydney said...

I don't; know why Kors loves Mila's mixed pattern black and white dress so much. They loved it on the last show too.

Sydney said...

poor Seth Aron wants it so bad they keep cutting to his face while the other two designers are getting complimets.

All of them have talent, all of them want it so bad. I have no idea how the judges are going to solve this one!

Maybe give it to all three???

Sydney said...

OH shit, I think they are going to give it to Emelio, and I do NOT want to see him gloat if they do.

Becky said...

He really deserved it. I think Emilio will do very well in the general public clothing.

Sydney said...

Oh, I will not comment on the winner until you all see it.

Amazing fashion, great finale!! I really enjoyed this season!

There were looks from all three designers that I would personally like to wear - I probably leaned more toward E & M for my personal style, but definitely thought that SA brought it in a big way for the show!

I hate to see this season end...

joy n said...

I am so glad that Seth Aaron won! And doubly glad that Emilio didn't.

They all did some beautiful pieces.

I SO did NOT like Seth's hairstyle. Like him a lot better with the hat ON.

Sydney said...

I hate to see it end too dla.

And yes, joy, that showing the forehead didn't work so well for our Seth.

I am glad Seth Aaron won. I thought his new hairstyle was bad.
I was worried when I saw the black and white graphic design dress that Heidi wore for the runway show. It seemed like it was a subliminal message to Mila that Heidi was impressed with Mila's concepts of design.
I was amazed at how brutual the reunion show was. There were some mean spirited comments.
It was a great season but this year was so intense at times I feel like I need a break. I will of course be looking forward to next season.
