Boo on the American Idol Chicago Auditions!

Oh my. I want the hour of my life back. Y'know, Chicago is a city full of talent. Apparently most of the talented were out of town when the auditions were held. Even the ones who made it through didn't thrill me. I thought last week's auditions fared so much better. I can't keep myself from thinking "pants on the ground, pants on the ground, lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground." Yeah, he's 62 and not a real contestant, but he's spot on! Randy Jackson was on Letterman last night and they showed the clip again.

What ended up to be my only real point of interest in the Chicago auditions was the guest judge, Shania Twain. If there was a Six Degrees of Shania Twain game like the Kevin Bacon one, I'd score a two. No, I don't know her. But I went to junior high/high school with Dave Malachowski and he was in her band for years. More recently he's been playing with Commander Cody and the Lost Airmen, Savoy Brown, and now the Woodstock All-Stars. Obviously, he's not as country as he is blues and rock.

But he was with Shania Twain for more than a few years and through her breakthrough success with "You're Still the One." He's the closest thing we have to a rock star in my high school graduation class. I fear he has the same haircut he had when they removed the dress code in the last year of high school. Here's a video I found of Shania, along with Dave (he's the long-haired guitarist on the right) from those days circa 1996 or so ...

Don't know why but I've got a blank where the pic of the video should be. Your TWTW pix are still there so can't figure out why no video.

I agree about all the talent in Chi-town must have been elsewhere last night. I thought Shania was great as the guest judge too. And thought Kara was a bit obnoxious. I really don't like her much.

When I was in high school as a sophomore, Gene Cornish who later became a guitarist for the Young Rascals, and later still, The Rascals, was a senior at my old Ben Franklin High School. He was born in Canada but moved to Rochester as a child, I believe.

In 1963, he gave two concerts in our auditorium which thrilled us barely post-pubescent teenage girls no end. Just seeing him in the halls was a pleasure. Tall and cute!

I guess I didn't update my page as I didn't see this until I commented on the OT post.

I agree that Chicgo left something really to be desired. The talent was nil for the most part.

Loved the 62 year old who sang "Pants on the Ground". Like the guy who sang, "She Bang, She Bang", (and I'm guessing that's what he was saying)... POTG should be a hit as well. I loved it when a whole bunch of the contestants sang it in unison!

I think I'll go on AI and sing My Name is Flo...

Hey guys!

Just stopped by to let you know I'm not floating away here in SoCali. The severe storms have caused much flooding and mud slides. Why don't dogs use a doggie litter box? My poor babies have to cross a river to potty. ;) My entire back yard looks like a lake. I guess it's my turn for some nasty weather.

A shout out to Laurie and Terry...stay safe and dry.

We've been watching AI but I just can't get into it until all the weirdoes have been weeded out. Just so you know, my pants are NOT on the ground. :D He was bizarrely entertaining unlike the "Tiny Tim" wannabe.

Somebody is bugging me to use the computer here and it's not my dogs, so I have to sign off now.

My WV is nonsing. LOL

Ciao~

I am originally from the Chicago area and I think there is some better talent there than showed up for sure! I read an article today all about how they do these auditions and by the time the judges actually see them it is actually weeks after those mob scenes. They are not only looking for the good ones, but the bad ones that make "good TV"

I actually had a great star in my classes from grade school right through high school - John Belushi! They lived just around the corner and I didn't miss a single episode of SNL back when it was funny.

Glad to hear you are keeping dry too Zoetanny. I'm up here in the Bay Area and I thought that if we weren't about to float away - today we could have blown away. And the storms are still lined up to come in!

Zoetawny....HI!!!!! It's been a long time since I've seen your name. I hope all is well in your family. So are you sandbagging your property to keep the water out?

Jackie thanks for this post...I haven't seen the show and it sounds like I don't need to waste my time! Pants on the Ground guy was pretty funny....he is going to be the William Haung(She Bangs) of the season.
Guest judges are nice but I am anxious to see Ellen DeGeneres on the panel with the others.

OT--It is very sad about Jennifer Lyons from Survivor dying. She was only 37 and had breast cancer.

Jackie, RTVW has an article on the contestants from TAR 16. It's confirmed that Jordan and Jeff are in it.

Wow, I didn't know Savoy Brown was still playing. I had one record of theirs that totally brings me back to summer in high school when I head it.

I knew one of those singers on Idol last night looked familiar. He was Daniel Franco from seasons 1 & 2 of Project Runway. He was shown in that tribute bit of the ones who seemed to be Adam Lambert wannabes. The one who said, "If Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle had sex....I'd be it." He knew he was past the age limit (he's 38) but he wanted to tryout anyway. He didn't get to sing though. Just the clip of the look-alikes was shown.
