Simon Cowell Leaving American Idol

Yes, the rumors seem to be true. No, he's not leaving this season. It seems that the crowd who works there don't all get along so well (who woulda thunk it?) and Simon will be bringing an American version of his UK show The X Factor here. Since Cowell owns The X Factor. if it hits here, he'll be much better off career-wise. So, he's not giving his career the kiss of death. He might be picking just the right time. By the way, if you don't follow the link above, The X Factor is yet another talent contest show.

More about the American Idol Simon leaving brouhaha can be found in this Daily Beast article. While that article seems to concentrate on it's all about Simon thinking of Simon and planning to wreck American Idol, I really don't think so. I think he knows he has an audience and knows what he's doing. Sure, he's thinking of his own career. But, heck ... if I didn't think of my own career, I wouldn't bother getting up to go to work daily.

I just wonder how next year will go. I'll admit I'll most likely watch Cowell's new show. Will it diminish my interest in American Idol? Quite possibly. I guess we'll see what happens and whether AI can still be a powerhouse without Simon Cowell.

Your thoughts? Will you watch both shows? One over the other? How will it change Idol to be Simon-less and Paula-less? I'm not too keen on Kara and I can only take so much of "yo, yo, check it out, check it out" from Randy Jackson. I heard Ellen DeGeneres said that she'll leave if Simon goes.

I might try next season without Simon but not so sure I'd like it either. I would definitely watch The X Factor. And Kara doesn't do much for me on AI nor does Randy any more. I'll probably end up just watching the tryouts.

Have read that Simon may try to recruit Paula as a judge for The X Factor, but at this point, I'd chalk that up as a rumor.

I gave up on Idol three seasons ago-Nothing to do with simon, so it won't matter to me. I will probably watch x-Factor in the beginning also.

Ellen said she'd leave if Simon does??? Was she kidding??? I'm with you Jackie... I had had enough of Randy many seasons ago. He really get's on my nerves with his banter.

I like Kara/Cara.. whatever. She seems to be able to be fair in her assessments, but then they can only be fair if we agree with them I guess. LOL

I don't understand why a lot of people were upset with Paula leaving. It was her time for sure. She seemed to straighten up from previous 'rx drugs' this past season, but to say she was a good judge, even in her unhazy days, was a stretch..IMHO.

I'll watch again, but the jury is out as to whether I'll stick with it.

The Ellen quote came from an interview in this weeks Entertainment Weekly. Both were giving funny answers so when said I believe it was a joke. Who knows now that it is true that Simon is leaving. She may find it to demanding of her time this year and want to quit so we will just have to wait and see.

I will watch this year to see how it is w/o Paula and with Ellen. I did not watch last year because they put the other judge in and she did not impress me.
I do not like Randy's same ole, same ole lines. Simon is the only one that was a little different and he usually was right on the money about most.

I will have to check out the link to The X Factor as I don't know what it is about.

Jackie are you blogging AI this year?

MEB - I'm not sure about every night as I think it might come up against Survivor at some point. Right now the auditions are hard to blog about.
