Off Topic - That Was the Week It Was - July 31, 2011

It's Sunday morning, time for my weekly off television topic reflection on the week gone by in both words and photographs I've taken. If you're looking for BB13 news, check out the post before this and the next post I put up. I can't tell you offhand when it will go up, but it will surely be BB13!

I didn't take a lot of photos this week, nor are any really works of art. I had a bit of a weird week. I actually went to a barbecue at work on Wednesday. It was fun seeing everyone, but not being able to elevate my leg, getting up and down from low chairs without arms ... it took a toll on my knee. Sure enough, all swollen the next day.

It was still a bit swollen when I went to physical therapy on Friday.I had called my surgeon's office for a refill of pain medication, but he wasn't in. As it turned out, they apparently never gave him the message and I still don't have my medication. I'm eating ibuprofen like candy because I ended up pulling my not yet healed quad muscle. Sigh. It's a setback in the healing process for sure. I ended up really needing to use my crutch over the weekend. Tomorrow I have to call once again.

On a brighter note, I had another Peapod grocery delivery this week. Lots of fruit! I made blueberry muffins and all. Mmmm. I have no clue why I didn't use Peapod the first knee recovery. The only thing a bit awry with my order is that I ordered a head of cabbage to make a casserole I enjoy. Normally I just get a small head. They sent me a giant cabbage the size of a beachball! Okay, I exaggerate a bit. But it's way bigger than a bowling ball. I had to put it on the shelf because it didn't fit in my fruit/vegetable drawer in the refrigerator. I'll be eating a lot of cabbage this upcoming week!

Onto the photos -- clicking on an image will open it larger in a new window.

Doo-Wop!

Now, that sounds fun! Alas, it's a BB13 evening. If I'm not mistaken, Westfield might be having its Tuesday evening jazz through town. I'll have to head in some early evening.

Flower in a pot

I hit the "automatic levels" on my photo editor and it turned the greenery mostly blue. I like that, so I kept it. The color of the flower itself didn't change.

Future 9/11 Memorial in Scotch Plains

This is in the little park where I while the time awaiting my PT appointments. Only one day have I seen anyone working on it. On Friday I saw two men there. I think it's going to be some time before it's finished.

Plainfield Train Station

Yep, I was actually at the station this week. A work friend picked me up for the barbecue, but I asked another friend to give me a ride to the station there. Once I got to Plainfield, I ended up taking a cab home.

I didn't go up or down

I sat in the handicapped/bikes section all by myself. Although the seats are padded, they're not as comfortable as the regular seats in the train cars. But I didn't have to do stairs!

You better take it easy woman. Hope you get your meds back too. That's enough about you. Now me..I would love to know what kind of casserole you made with the cabbage. I love it and other than fried or boiled I've never done much with it. Do you have a recipe to share? FB me...

I have two dishes I tend to do with cabbage, perhaps more skillet dishes than casseroles.

1. Pork sausage/cabbage/egg noodles -- take a package of pork sausage roll and brown it in pieces, tear cabbage into pieces and simmer until tender, drain both. Meanwhile, prepare broad egg noodles, then mix all three together heating them just a bit more. I don't really measure-- just put enough cabbage and egg noodles to my own liking.

2. Kielbasa/cabbage/onion -- slice kielbasa and heat in one frying pan. Tear cabbage and roughly chop onion, add some water and butter in a Dutch oven, heat until tender, then mix in the kielbasa. Again, I don't tend to measure.

Hi, I am JULIE, I am writting for JOEY. I need to explain to you what happen with my JOEY.
He did not know that large letters/caps is use to respresent shouting/yelling. He did get upset because He thought He offended all of you and since He such a sensitive, caring person toward others, He was really upset and worry that He was taken the wrong way.
JOEY is a person, while strong and tuff, yet he has a heart of gold and He really is a rare person. I think of JOEY as male JORDON as they both are so much alike.
He hate BRENCHEL with a passion as He see brendon as a abuser and think that why RACHEL react the way she does. As He said " when they first met on the show, the ex-girlfriend said that was why they broke up.JOEY think that for all the Intelligence they both have, they have no common sense, and He hope they both go back to vegas and remember that what goes on in vegas, please stay there!!!!
If those two get married it be the shortest marriage known to man and please, if they have a baby, the world is dome. He said if Jeff doesn't marry Jordon soon, He, JOEY, gonna hunt his ass down and kick it. He think they are the perfect fit and would be the best thing to conteract of brenchel, the evil dual.
He think someone will finaly find the off switch to kala's AND BRING PEACE AND HORMANY TO THE WORLD. LAWSON will have a comedy act, BRENDON will become DR.WHAT?? and his school of sidewalk surgery,
I could go on for JOEY but I won't as He is really funny when He talk about all of them. JOEY is such a sweet caring man and cares about and has been following JACKIE'S blogs since the very beginning and He is happy to read them and all the post as the show captions is really slow and bad as well.
When brenchel FIGHTS, JOEY is really funny when He does his voice over of them fighting, I so wish you could see it, we all have such fun with him, HE better then the show.and to think, it took him seven years of speech lessons to learn how to talk and yet, he better then brenchel, did I mention, He hate them!!
Well, sorry for the long post but thought I should explain JOEY, and let you know,I will be helping him here as well and I stand by my man.
Also, to steal a phase from RACHEL;
NO ONE MESSES WITH MY JOEY!!!!!!
HE MY MAN!!
THANK YOU
JULIE/JOEY

I have always thoroughly enjoyed Joey's contributions here, caps lock and all. I hope he reconsiders matters and returns -- his insight into the shows is great, plus he seems to be a really NICE person. I'm never too pleased when other commenters take it in their own hands to "correct" someone I feel is doing no harm and enjoy. Please tell him that several commenters and Jackie want him back!

Ok, JOEY's joke was cute! And Jackie's first recipe sounds delicious and simple enough for me to try. I don't think I can mess that one up!

JOEY, WELCOME BACK. I think Jeff really wants to marry Jordan and she doesn't want to.

Jackie,

I get home delivery sometimes and every now and then, I am surprised by a size. Too large or too small. If there is a special instructions section, I make sure to fill it out when there's something critical.

Jackie S. said...

Justene - Thankfully, it's nothing critical. I like cabbage. Now I can snack on cabbage! :-)

It must have been a good year for cabbage, to have them grow that large. Peapod sounds like a very nice service. They haven't reached my midwestern outpost yet, but they're getting closer.

I hope the ibuprofen is working for you. The doctor's office should have a back-up system in place, to make sure patients can get the medication they need, especially when someone there caused the refill problem in the first place. I think I'd be ticked.

Does Vincent mind when you wear his toys on your feet?

Justene said...

Critical was the time they substituted the fatfree coffee creamer with regular. My husband tried to insist I never use them again!
