Big Brother 13 HoH Result and Nominations Show Blog Party 9/04

Photobucket

The show is about to start here on the East Coast. Shockingly, it didn't get delayed by tennis! As it airs, I'll update this entry with major events. But the real fun is in the comments and I hope you all join in!

Rachel won HoH by a wide margin!

Rachel goes to the room to find Pandora's Box -- Tori Spelling and a shopping spree! She knows Adam's Tori fixation and thinks there can't be a big twist. So she goes for it. Rachel instead got Jessie. Eww.

The house got Tori Spelling. Adam is agog. Then the house got a three-minute shopping spree. Rachel didn't get to go.

Adam, Porsche and Kalia all pleaded their cases with her. But only Jordan and Adam are safe. Kalia and Porsche are on the block.

All is well with the g-grandson Jackie and Becky... thanks for asking. They are home and back to normal.

@Meb - I was gonna ask about Jake via FB!! Glad to hear he's doing well!!

Why does it sound like everything Rachel & Porsche say in the DR is being read from a script?

monty924 said...

During Adam's talk with the camera in the early morning hours (as he does) he confirmed again that he is standing with Rachel and Jordan because they kept him. He is voting Kalia out.

Thanks Orkmommy... big relief!

Okaaaay not to open up a can of worms, but I find it very very very odd that:

A) Tori Spelling was even chosen based on Adam's talking about her, which shows that Pandora IS NOT planned ahead of time

B) Rachel was talking out her decision out loud as if she was told to do so by producers beforehand: "So, if you find pandora's box, make sure you...."

Though Tori looked very very tempting so I'm not surprised she opened it. I would have based on how they presented it.

@Joe in NY...

When did it come to light that the claimed three year estrangement between Dani and & ED was fake? Did I miss an episode?

Re Dani's and a graceful exit...on BBAD she sat around for hours with Porsche ragging on the ridiculous, horrible, absurd unfairness of it all and stated about a million times that Rachel sucked. Her exit speech felt really bitter and condescending to me, and she spent some of her Julie time once again defaming Rachel. Interesting how we see the same thing but come away with such different conclusions.

Kahlia has officially become pathetic, and now reminds me of Kristin last year who was so pathetic last year during her eviction week that the other HGs strategized ways to avoid being cornered by her.

It just bugs me when a reality show contestant makes it sound like if they don't win the show their own life will be ruined, that winning a show that all the odds are against you to even get picked for is your sole shot at salvation. Good god people, maybe make a better life plan, so you can enjoy some measure of success and happiness without having to win a reality show. Kahlia suck it up and stop crying, you are ruining BBAD. Even Porsche is starting to shut down every time you talk now.

Hope Porsche goes next. Can't wait for A/J/R F3! Of course if Porsche wins next HOH or POV my girl Rachel will probably be out. Fingers crossed.

Joe in NY said...

Tilda,

1) They fill out all kinds of questionnaires before being chosen for BB. BB knew Adam liked Tori Spelling before they even went into the house. But that said, they can plan a Pandora with "random celebrity" and throw in one later.

2) The HOH and other hosts are given cues to read. Otherwise they wouldn't even know what the other HGs are supposed to do. All hgs in DR, for example, have conversations with producers where they only play the HGs half of the conversation. Same with Survivor confessionals. They are instructed to essentially repeat the question as an intro then answer it.

I'm not sure what your point is. All this is known. It is the attempt of producers to tell a story in the house. The technical term is the "Edit". You'll often hear former contestants complaining about "The Edit" they got. They show clips out of sequence, edit conversations so they sound different. It is part of the presentation of the show. What they are not supposed to do is alter the outcome of the game, although there have always been rumors of subtle manipulation in DR sessions.

On a side note... I'm really diggin' these behind the scenes looks at the upcoming CBS fall shows!

Joe in NY said...

Lilli

I never exactly said (I hope) that Dani made a graceful exit. She went out kicking and fighting to stay in. Again, everything before she was talking to Julie counts as game play in my mind.

She doesn't like Rachel. That's why I've been saying that "game play" is not going to change her mind on her jury vote. But she never whined and claimed it was unfair. She and Brendon had a collegial greeting at Jury House and she was even friendly with Jeff even though he was being (in my opinion) a dick.

monty924 said...

~~~, of course. The viewing audience (non-spoiled) needs a story to follow. A lot of gaps in between show days.
Joe in NY said...
Lili
I believe it was ED after he left the game who confirmed there was no estrangement pre-BB. I'm not sure it ever aired on the actual show.
Joe in NY said...
Lili I agree with you about people's drama over the game show being life or death. Of course part of it is they cast all these 20-25 year olds who are a bit dramatic by nature. I don't think it is much different than the lottery, really. People play $20 a day on scratch offs and stuff hoping to change their life not realizing that simply saving $20 per day would eventually change their life.
Becky said...
Good show! I never thought I would watch Jesse and enjoy it, but this was one of the best moments this season. If it had been anyone but Racheal it wouldn't have been nearly so funny.
Becky said...
I am off line. I will let DH have the computer for a while. Catch you on Wed.
Anonymous said...
@Joe,
That may be true, but there is no way of knowing that Adam would still be in the house at this time.
Also Most celebrities must be booked well in advanced. You just can't just say oh, we'll have a celebrity guest this week and not plan out who it would be...unless of course at the last minute after hearing Adam yap about her all week you decide to give her a call and hope she's available.
I am also aware of how the DRs work, but that does not explain why Rachel was discussing Pandora, which is supposed to be a surprise. Unless it told her to do it on the card
My point is that the show is manipulated. Not necc. Fixed but what you see is no where near the truth of things. And we have to ask ourselves if they are willing to manipulate the show for ratings via editing, diary rooms, and Pandora gimmicks what other things are they doing to alter the show. Do you think they tell themselves, "Yes sure, we'll edit things out of context, coach the DR confessions and alter the assumed scheduled pandora box with prizes that favor certain houseguests, but nah, we won't also throw together veto and hoh comps that are "favor" to specific houseguests or other Pandora's that favor one side (i.e. the vets) over another
~~~

meb said...

Joe... Jeff had just been sucker-punched by being eliminated in a double eviction... he was still trying to heal from that with Dani sitting there with jabs all the way. He was just upset for losing and I'm sure for leaving Jordon since this was supposed to be their summer together.'

Cut the guy a break please...

Now having said all that... I simply hate the word as you used it to describe Jeff in the jury house... Caused a response, but I still meant it. : )

Joe in NY said...

Actually, Tilda, the really classic case of The Edit is Lex on Survivor:Africa. It came down to Lex, Ethan (the eventual winner) and the older woman whose name escapes me. The older woman had the right to pick who she took to final 2. She took Ethan who was the friendly, hard-working nice guy and sent Lex home. Lex had been portrayed as the rough-edged lying game player who was doing all the backstabbing etc. that everyone hated.

After Ethan won, the woman was interviewed and asked why she didn't take Lex instead. She said she knew she'd lose to either one because they were both so popular. The interviewer asked with shock "Lex was popular?" The woman said, "I know how he was portrayed on the show but everyone in Africa LOVED Lex."

Just goes to show you how an edit can change the entire perception of events by the viewing public. What the edit doesn't do (on Survivor) is change the outcome because no one sees it until after they've voted. That's probably why they don't let the jury see the show. They give them a completely different DVD that is probably much less edited and carefully constructed to stay true to facts.

Anonymous said...

clarify:

"but nah, we won't also throw together veto and hoh comps that also "favor" specific houseguests or a Pandora's box that favors one side (i.e. the vets) over another,"

The fact that this Pandora was designed specifically for Adam supports, not proves, the argument that the last pandora was also designed to favor certain people. and was not scheduled before the show.

Tilda, we all know what we see is manipulated. We suspect DR may be manipulative. You really aren't telling us anything we don't know. That is very different from the kind of rigging your suggesting.

Your suggesting they must have kept Adam in the game to be here for Tori Spelling. That kind of fixing would be completely illegal. Do I have to say it, Section 47 Chapter 5 Subchapter V..

And by the way, it wasn't Brad Pitt. I'm pretty sure I can get Tori Spelling for my Birthday party on Tuesday if I call tomorrow.

NOOOO THAT is not what I am suggesting.

The reason I prefaced my post with "not to open a can of worms" was because I was bringing up the argument that the show is manipulated. I clearly stated in one of my posts that I think the show is manipulated, not fixed, (that is, rigged).

We are agreeing and not agreeing at the same time. But I think you are misreading my posts because I don't really understand how any of your responses relate. My point is that this episode further supports the theory that the show and outcome can be manipulated, Specifically the whole random FIRST Pandora's Box that completely changed the game that would have sent the biggest stars home for sure. After that event, that is when all the fixed, rigged, manipulation rumors started.

This episode only supported the theory. (Read previous posts to understand why, now that I've hopefully clarified.)

~~~, I don't know about this year, but in the past hgs have talked of how BB films comps, etc. They need cheering and happy hgs to introduce a product like a new movie, etc. Sometimes there are several 'takes' before the hgs show enough enthusiasm for the product. I am sure I read that in hg post show interviews. It was the same with Pandora's box, I think. They have to have a good clear camera angle, reading, etc of it, so might ask the hg to read it more than once. Belle
Joe you are incorrigible, but you made me LOL! And he wasn't acting like that either. Poor Jeffy! So picked upon!
Anonymous said...
The evidence:
BB manipulates everything else (editing, Pandora, DR, etc.) why wouldn't they manipulate comps (that is, choose comps that favor the stregnths of certain people)
Pandora's box this week suggests that it was NOT scheduled before the show because it was clearly designed for Adam who producers couldn't have predicted would A- still be in the game at this time and B- be talking about Tori so much. Therefore it is not so bizarre to suggest that the last Pandora, the one many accused of being a stunt by producers to keep the stars on the show, was indeed a ploy to keep Jordan and Rachel on the show.
~~~

Anonymous said...

Thank you Anon 9:18,

I think that really helps explain the Rachel's thinking out loud bit.

But my other point (about manipulation) remains.

~~~
Joe in NY said...
Tilda,
Your logic evades me:
Your original post said that Tori Spelling/Adam connection proves that Pandora's Box isn't planned out in advance. I responded that you can plan having a Pandora's Box without knowing who was going to be in it. You said that you can't do that because celebrities are so hard to book unless you just called at the last minute to see if she's there.
So either you are agreeing with me that they have an empty Pandora planned and shoved Tori into it OR you are saying that they couldn't put a megastar (er...Tori Spelling) into it at the last minute.
If you are agreeing with me, what's the big deal. There is no manipulation.
By the way, when duos ended the first time Julie said that we weren't done with duos. Doesn't that suggest that the 1st Pandora's Box was planned? You may argue "planned for what week?" but it does mean it was planned earlier and we have no evidence to suggest it wasn't always planned for final 6.
Joe in NY said...
By the way, we don't agree on manipulation. I have specifically said that they manipulate for dramatic effect for us but have to be careful not to manipulate anything that affects the outcome. You are suggesting they manipulate outcomes...which is only barely different than "fixing"
Joe in NY said...
Tilda,
Not that we can't just agree to disagree. I'm not yelling, just discussing.
Since Tori is not pimping some new project, I'm quite certain they threw her in there for Adam's benefit. I'm just not sure what THAT proves other than they threw Tori in there for Adam's benefit.
Anonymous said...
My original post said that Tori Spelling/Adam connection proves that Pandora's Box isn't planned out in advance. You responded that you can plan having a Pandora's Box without knowing who was going to be in it. I said that you can't do that because celebrities are so hard to book unless you just called at the last minute to see if she's there.
Which means that it would not be smart for producers to plan for an empty celebrity box. Tori's appearance could have been luck. The producers saw that Adam was in the house and that he couldn't stop talking about Tori and said, hey let's call her up and see if she's available. They could have gotten lucky. But I don't think a TV show would plan months in advance to have any celebrity who they'd wait to book a couple weeks before their appearance. They may have had a pandora's box planned, but not the prize. I think they decide the prize closer to the air date of pandora based on what's going on in the game.
That's the problem. That means, while the first Pandora could have been planned, the prize (duo) could have been chosen based on the happenings of the house. But I don't remember Julie saying the duo twist would return and I don't remember hearing the hgs ever talking about it or planning it.
And suppose Porshe didn't open the box. No duo twist. So how would it have returned?
This had to be the funniest episode this season. All those Jesse pictures, cups, hair gel and stuff cracked me up. I hate to say it but I too am liking Rachael more and more and really hoping for a R/J finale. I think Adam will stick with R/J for now and not use the veto. However, I'm thinking since Rachael can't play HOH , Porsce has a good chance of beating Jordon and Adam unless if it's questions, Jordon can be pretty good at them. As for ED and Dani's estrangment.... I think on the very first episode ED said in the diary room that they haven't seen each in a couple of years and that they got along better inside the house than outside the house. I even remember looking at Dani's face walking in with her dad, it looked like a face of contempt.
Ed in Ohio said...
@~~~And suppose Porshe didn't open the box. No duo twist. So how would it have returned?
Good Question? And therein lies the conundrum.
~~~ Remember the engagement Pandora's box...I forget who and what year (LOL) that one was obviously geared for the HOH and spur of the moment. I don't see that as fixing. Belle

monty924 said...

The entire Tori argument is flawed for this reason: He's been talking non-stop Tori Spelling/90210 since the feeds came on week one. All that Tori talking didn't occur within the last week. As a matter of fact, he's barely mentioned her as of late. It's a silly argument to be making and does not support manipulation.

Competitions are planned out, as Jackie has confirmed, before casting is even complete. Pandora's box is not a competition. PB is simply a twist that can effect either side of the house or no one in the house based on the fact that the HoH does NOT have to open it. If Porsche hadn't opened PB, Rachel would have won veto and Jordan would have went home. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand in that. JMO

monty924 said...

... just to add:

The luxury within PB could very well have been planned out well in advance and Tori thrown in there for fans/viewers at the last minute. She has reasons to go on the show as well. Publicity in any form for her own business.

They could have easily come up with another enticement for Rachel to open it, or any other HoH for that matter. It doesn't effect the game IMO, it's just fluff for ratings.

Anonymous said...

@Monty: about Tori: "It's a silly argument to be making and does not support manipulation."

Uh,, not really because even if Adam's been talking about her all season it still shows that the prizes and or punishments in Pandora can be designed to favor specific hgs. Suppose Adam had been evicted week one. Are you saying Tori Spelling of all people (no show, no cbs project, nothing to sell--because she didn't even mention it while on) would have still been the prize?

Even if you say yes to that, as someone else mentioned, past Pandora's boxes have been designed for the opener, such as Natalie and her boyfriend's proposal... pretty sure that was not planned in advanced.

"Competitions are planned out, as Jackie has confirmed, before casting is even complete."

Well I like Jackie and her blog, but I also watch Dick at Nite, which stars actual past contestants who are in very well with current producers--especially Dick. And they have also been saying that they think the comps are and have been geared toward certain people and not necessarily planned in advanced. Plus Jessie was recently on D.A.N and never even hinted that he'd be on the show, which means that his appearance was also last minute. You may say well suggest that maybe he had to stay quiet about it, but if you watch the show (D.A.N.) you know they talk about and drop hints about returning all the time. For instance Dick mentioned he'd have a BB Finale after-show in the backyard of the new house before it was confirmed.

"It doesn't effect the game IMO"

Yes, I am not saying that the Tori Spelling PB affects the game outcome. I am using it to suggest that the LAST pandora box before this one in FACT changed the game (intentionally done by BB), keeping the two biggest stars in the house (Jordan and Rachel) who would have definitely been gone by now. They knew it, Rachel & Jordan knew it (which is why they had several pity parties about it) and we knew it. There would not have been a show if that were the case so BB stepped in and kept their stars on the show using the guise of a Pandora twist.

OMG! am i the only one who doesn't care if it's rigged/manipulated/coerced/scripted etc? it's tv. it's entertainment. and every good story must have a protagonist and an antagonist. if it really bothers you so much to dissect it and not enjoy it for its pure entertainment value then why do you watch it? or is the dissecting the entertainment? (and the question is directed to no one in particular)

Not going to argue a point to death. Porsche did NOT have to open Pandora's Box. That effected the game. If she hadn't, CBS and BB would have went on with one vet and four newbies. It would have been like season 6 all over again, but the show would have gone on. I maintain that fixed/rigged theories are just that - theories!

You believe the show is manipulated, I do too. You hint that you believe it is rigged, I do not. Peace!

IMNSHO, it is in both Rachel and Jordan's best interest that Jordan NOT win HOH this week. The POV holder (unless it is the HOH) holds all the power and would be the sole vote to evict (unless it is the HOH) IF (big IF I know) Jordan were to win HOH, she'd more than likely have to win the POV as well to insure that Rachel was safe. Both of these things happening are slim to none. Therefore it is best that Rachel or Jordan win the POV, be the sole vote(r) and therefore evict, either Adam or Porsche.

I have been watching BB since season one and have watched it evolve to what it has become. Yes it is for entertainment. Just because I am critical of the show doesn't mean that I don't like to watch it.

monty924 said...

The only person absolutely safe in this next week is the HoH. The only person who has any power is the veto holder. They have the only vote to evict regardless of who is on the block out of the other three.

Anyone of J/A/P could win HoH and it comes down to Jordan or Rachel to make sure that they are in final 3. A Jordan HoH would guarantee herself and then Rachel or Jordan would have to win the veto. Adam, if he's true to his word, would also make it a J/R/A final three.

The only way they (J/R/A) don't make final 3 is if Porsche wins HoH or POV.

not exactly true
if for example rachel is hoh and wins the veto
and adam and porshe are on the block
jordan would be the only one voting.
so the veto holder is the one vote provided the veto holder is not the hoh also

~~Silk said...

There's another possibility (note it's improbable, just possible): One of the people on the block wins veto, and then is confident enough of the vote to not use it, thereby getting rid of the other person without "getting dirty". Well, not too dirty.

The discussion on this board about whether BB is fixed has been intersting and also a thought provoking way to fill some time when there isn't much going on with the hgs. Little of it is new to me, all of it having been talked about since the beginning of BB and Survivor and other reality shows. I thought about it long ago and decided none of it factored into my enjoyment (or lack ) of any particular series. That must indicate that I, for one, am in it for the watchability and not interested in its rules and/or whether they are followed. I think the courts at some time will have to make a decision on it, though.Maybe they will create a new addition to the quiz bowl laws that involve what I think reality shows are. That is a hybrid of entertainment and game show. If that happened, then our discussion here would change slightly as we decided which challenge/event in the house was quiz show type and which was entertainment. Pandora might be entertainment only, even though it removed players from eviction. Belle

If I were him I would go off and tell her that I wasn't going to use it period and to leave me alone.

The whole Tori Spelling / Adam fan boy thing was stupid.

How could anyone ever be that enthused over "her". lmao

Jesse,yeah we needed to see him yet AGAIN!
Jeez, had enough of him first time out.
No need to bring him back a 3rd time.

"Jordan is just the cutest! Do you think she is really that naive?"

Nah, it's most likely played up.
Most of the more popular players play up certain aspects of their "T.V.characters".

Rachel(was,until the recent "retooling" i.e. image overall) the ambitious bitch etc.

Whatever the producers throw out @ America and it "sticks" they run with.
Playing up the "parts"

"Okaaaay not to open up a can of worms, but I find it very very very odd that"

Yeah, I caught that as well.
It's more transparent than the producers seem to think.

The whole Rachel contemplating aloud was very obvious.
Again, most likely to help establish her as a much nicer person than prev. portrayed.

Aww,that Rachel does have a sweet side, see knowing Adam is such a Tori fanboy she risked opening Pandorea's box just so he could meet her.
How sweet.

She's going to win this season, I'm almost 95% certain.
She couldn't stand that America "didn't like her".

It's all "damage control".

I think it would be funny if and I say if the producers threw a final twist, and that would be if on the final three just before the "winner" announces who they want to "vote out" that BB tells them we're going to have a final comp for POV, the winner is safe and the loser is out! That could ruin anyone's game due to the fact that the winner of that POV might not be the one the winner wants to take, thereby ruining the chance of a sweep by one or the other. It would be a REAL TWIST especially if they kept it a secret till the end which would blow everyone's mind not to mention ruin the game play... Just my thought, but it would make things so much more interesting at the end.... LOL

Monty924 said : The only way they (J/R/A) don't make final 3 is if Porsche wins HoH or POV.

***********************************

Yes and no, LOL. It is IF she wins HoH AND/OR POV. IF she only wins HoH, she will nominate J & R.... IF R wins PoV, she saves herself, Porsche has to put up Adam and Rachel, as the sole vote, would vote out Adam. And the same would apply if J were to win the PoV. The worst case scenario for J & R would be Adam or Porsche winning HoH and then the other winning PoV

I guess the short answer is Adam or Porsche winning HoH is not a death knoll for either Jordan and/or Rachel. PoV is the power holder this week NOT the HoH. HoH ONLY guarantees their own safety.

Has it been discussed why the house is more gung-ho to get rid of Kalia rather than Porsche? Personally, I think Porsche is a bigger threat than Kalia. Or do they think she'd garner more jury votes than Porsche?

I am a big Rachel fan this year. I think she's playing a great game. I understand her alliance with Jordan; what I don't understand is JORDAN. Did she really ask if "Broadway was in L.A." (showtime feed the other night) This vacuous act goes just so far - and is hardly entertaining. I guess Jeff likes the whole 'package' and thinks it's cute. I think it would get old.

Sorry I missed the party last night, it looks like a fun discussion!
I was at another party. You guys would not believe it: A buncha 30-40-ish people dancing to the BeeGees. It was awesome, like a high school sock hop.
I am so hungover. Watching tennis and recovering.
Wish my BF Joe could have joined me. hehe
Now I will watch last night's show...
(I am excited to see Jessie. I love him)

I think it's ant act to a degree.
Jeff is like 10 yrs. older than Jordon, maybe if she acts that way in real life as well he just enjoys playing the smarter elder. lol
