Off Topic - That Was the Week It Was - October 23, 2011

It's Sunday morning once again -- time for my weekly off television topic  reflection on the week gone by in both words and photographs I've taken. I've had yet another quiet week on the home front. I seem to have picked up a cold. That or perhaps just really bad allergies. I'm congested and sneezy. But, no. I haven't been hanging around Snow White.

The weather here has really seemed to become fall-like this week. I don't mind that at all. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. I like temperatures in the high fifties, low sixties in the daytime. I enjoy wearing a sweater. I really enjoy not sweating while I'm walking!

Walking with leaves crunching under my feet or just shuffling (not like the Party Rock Anthem ... "every day I'm shuffle-in, I'm shuffle-in'" -- I mean really shuffling not dancing to the beat!) through accumulations of them. Pumpkins abound. I bought some apple cider which I'm mulling over mulling. Alas, I can't find any really local apple cider doughnuts. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we're going to have great foliage colors here this year, probably due to the severe rain totals over the summer. The winds are also blowing many leaves down before they even get the chance to go out with a blast of brilliance.

My knee is doing okay. I go back to work in less than two weeks, so it better be doing well! Weather permitting, I have been going for daily walks so it won't be a total shock for the knee when I walk back and forth to the train station daily. I had some unexpected pain one cold and rainy day this week. That needs to stop!

Those of you who only check in for the Sunday posts might (should) notice I've changed the format of the blog. I've updated it to the latest Blogger platform and I'm still experimenting around a bit. One of the things I'm doing with these photo posts is just having a few photos showing on the main page. Never fear, though! If you click the "read more" link, the full post will open before your very eyes.  By doing it this way, my main blog page isn't a huge long scroll to get though to the posts. So, here goes ...

Frost is yet to come
Some flowers are still sitting pretty on East Front Street in Plainfield.

Ahem ... fashion police, please!
But some fashions aren't sitting as pretty -- also on East Front Street. I thought wearing pajama pants was passe.

Inside the barbershop
I can't help but wonder about the barber's skills when everyone in the barbershop except a small child is wearing a baseball cap. East Front Street.

Going Up?
Whether 'tis nobler to risk the traffic or that crazy woman with a camera. East Front Street, too!

Colors in the 'hood
There are some pretty fall colors here and there in my neighborhood.

Now it's gray!
Oh my. This architect business has always been white. I went by on Saturday and a man was touching up the trim ... and it's gray! I like it. East Front Street.

Posing
Berckman Street, Plainfield

Victim of the season
Starting to shrivel a bit on East Front Street

Hanging in for now
Yet its pal is still growing strong. For now. Frost is expected later this week.

#@%&! bike on the sidewalk!
This [bleeping] idiot almost hit me with his bike. Jerk! There are laws that bicycles are not to be ridden on the sidewalks. I realize Plainfield has more serious issues, but I'd love it if these grown men on bikes on the sidewalks would get nailed by the cops every now and then. If I had still had my cane with me, I would have stuck in his back wheel spokes. Yes, I was that mad and he missed me by a few mere inches, not even calling out a warning that he was zooming up in back of me.

Horrible paint job
While I like the architect's new paint job, UHaul, not so much. Who paints over all the raised letters? What kind of color is that? East Front Street.

Conveniente?
One Spanish word amongst the English? Hmmm ... Watchung Avenue, Plainfield.

You are SO not putting that shot up!
I did! I did! Look at how fat Vincent's face is! :-)

Off topic - Did you hear Rupert is running for governor of Indiana? Yeah, "our" Rupert.

Yes. I saw that. I'm not sure what I think about it, though.

My furnace is emitting a lighter fluid fume after it runs. Called on Fri to have them come and clean it with a checkup. Can not come until Nov 7. So the colder weather is not funny. Will do something Monday and hope it does not cost an arm and a leg. Also Matthew and Kate will be here Fri-Sat-Sun and bet they will not be amused with only an electric heater! Grrrr

I have one maple in my yard that is pure green so far. So leaf raking will go on and on. At least the oaks are falling early this year. Get all the maples raked up and in Dec---here come the oaks!

There was frost on my windshield this morning, but it did not feel like 32 or below.

Not sure what Rupert's platform would be, but we know he is a charitable gentleman!

Going to Foxwoods CT on Weds/Thurs with Daddy and Conny. Room comped of course. Venturing to Rhode Island on Thurs to Providence and will travel back along the waterways. Hope I can find a lobster meal!

It's not any too warm in here this morning, for sure.

If you're shore-hugging from Providence, I'd recommend the U.S.S. Chowder Pot in Branford, CT. Great lobster (and other seafood, etc.) at fairly reasonable prices.

I usually get Apple Cider donuts from Chester but the lines are insanely long on the weekends. Got some good ones though from the new Shop Rite in downtown Somerville

As I read the caption about the bike rider, my heart started pounding. I really hate that kind of rude surprise and could feel your anger. Probably best you didn't have the cane.

Thanks for the pictures of the leaves. I love seeing that change. I hope you have some decorative cabbage in sight for the ice pictures!

J, my wv is coven. That made me laugh and I thought you would enjoy it too.

A whole new look for the blog! The changes are nice. I like having the comments show on the bottom of the blog/photos post.

Okay, my last comment never posted. Great pictures. I don't blame Vincent. He looks a bit ...huh... fluffy... yeah fluffy. Tell him Calvin and I think it was the camera angle.
