Off Topic - That Was the Week It Was - March 11, 2012

It's Sunday morning, time for my weekly off television topic photo post chronicling the week gone by in both words and photos I've taken along the way. I have to say this ... I want my hour back. I don't care about the extra hour of sunshine. I want my hour back NOW.

Oh my. I've had such a week here. With my apartment still not put together from the painting and renovation work, last Sunday I got a notice that there would be a city inspection on Tuesday. Gah. I had to move everything back, go into panic cleaning mode (mopped and waxed all my hardwood floors, cleaned closets, cleaned EVERYTHING). Then I ended up with a really long day at work Monday, getting home several hours later than usual. (There have been work issues all week long, too.)

All pretty much for naught.

The city inspector came in with his list of things to check from the last inspection -- painting done, new bathroom ceiling, bathroom sink faucet fixed (although it's a whole new sink, vanity and medicine cabinet), new kitchen floor. It took him about a minute and a half. I felt like screaming, "LOOK AT HOW MY FLOORS SHINE! WANT TO CHECK MY CLOSETS?!?"

But I didn't. I napped.

I'm just glad it's all over. I really don't like interference in my home life. I'm quite the private person and when I get home from work, I don't want to have to worry about workmen, inspectors, property managers, etc. I want to be left alone. I'll call them if I need them. That said, the building itself (and my apartment) look better than they have since I've lived here.

Now if they'd stop renting to riff-raff in the front of the building -- folks who let their children run wild in the hallways or, worse yet, the idiot father boy who plays ball in the hall with his toddlers letting them run, thump and scream in our section where he doesn't live! I pointed out to the property manager where he's already scuffed the newly-painted hallways with the ball. My own wing and floor of the building is fine. We all respect each other, have consideration for others and don't have children running the hallways.

At work, my computer software is still all messed up. It's a nightmare. I don't want to talk about it.

Onto the photos -- clicking on an image will open a larger view.

Sunset train

I realize the sun will be setting even later tonight, but it's been a good month since I left work on a weekday at sunset anyway. But I worked late Monday and caught these great skies as I waited for my train home. The white trailers to the right are part of the Big Apple Circus entourage. I still haven't spotted stallions outside!

Sunrise reflected

These are the row homes on East Second Street in Plainfield. Last week I posted their rather dismal courtyard. Yet the way the early morning sun reflected in some of the windows caught my eye on the way to work one morning. I edited the shot to leave only the windows in color.

Pretty skies

Sunset in Bridgewater

And yet again. You can't beat a beautiful sunrise or sunset in my book. Well, unless you're napping. Napping is good, too.

Hmmm ...

The flags have been at half-staff and bunting has been over the Plainfield Police Department entrance since Monday. I've been watching obituaries, but haven't noticed any Plainfield Police folks listed. Of course, if it were an in the line of duty death, it would be all over the news. I'm guessing a retiree. I don't know.

The Worm Moon

Technically it's almost the Worm Moon. I took this from East Second Street in Plainfield early Wednesday evening. No, I didn't name the moon. It just is.

Pink dawn

I'll have dark walks to the train station in the early mornings again starting tomorrow. I was just getting used to daylight. I took this shot as I was leaving my apartment building, looking towards the homes on the street in back of me.

Grocery y Restaurante now

Even though now they're both a grocery store and a restaurant ... and they comida para todos los gusto (roughly: something for all tastes) ... they're still undependable in the early morning hours. One day not open yet as I got to the train station, another day opening the gates at 6:35am when my train is due at 6:38. One day they were open, but I didn't need anything as I couldn't depend on them to open early enough. North Avenue, Plainfield.

I see dead people

I so wish people wouldn't sleep with their heads and/or hands all over the windows. Some of us like to see out the windows without annoying smudges.

Crocus

The daffodils are looking even better this week and I caught the arrival of the YWCA crocuses. East Front Street, Plainfield.

Crocuses!

YWCA crocuses again. :-) I love spring!

Chotola pigeons

Th temperature was chilly on Saturday morning forcing the pigeons on the Chotola apartment building to try to snag some rays. North Avenue, Plainfield.

Lamped

This is one of the lamps by the TD Bank Ball Park adjacent to the Bridgewater Train Station. I messed with the editing using the "edge detect" filter on my GIMP program.

Sweet and innocent Vincent

Aww, so cute. So sweet. So innocent.

Under the influence

That is, until he gets some catnip in him. Rolling around the floor, running from room to room! Don't worry. I took the car keys away. I don't allow him to drive in this condition!

Stop on back for tonight's Amazing Race blog party!

Your sunrise/sunset photos are great! There's such beauty in nature. I should make it a point to be away from home more at sunset, as a row of towering pine trees blocks my western view at home. And I just don't get up early enough to see sunrises.

Your work situation sounds very aggravating, especially since you know the huge amount of work that'll be needed once the system is fixed. It would be lovely if your employer found really good ways to make up for all the hassle.

I haven't been watching The Amazing Race this season. I just couldn't take any more Rachel and Brendon. Like nails on a chalkboard!
