Off Topic: That Was the Week It Was - October 7, 2012

To start things off this morning, how about some action?

The 007 of Plainfield, NJ? Cool. Apparently the John McClane character is from Plainfield, NJ. Bruce Willis is most certainly not. He's a Jersey boy after spending his first few years in Germany. But he's from the northeast corner of the state. McClane wouldn't have been from there! He's definitely more of a Plainfield kind of guy. Mind you, the movie is set in Russia ... not NJ or NYC.

Anyway, it's Sunday morning. Welcome to my weekly off television topic post. I usually reflect on the week gone by in both words and photographs I've taken. I really don't have a heck of a lot to say this week. I've been ill. I'm feeling somewhat better. I worked. I slept. Vincent still thinks I'm his own personal sofa. I guess, without further ado, it's onto the photos I took.

Clicking on an image will open it on a new page, clicking again will make it larger. Then just close out that page to return here!

Waning moon
Waning moon

It's as dark as night when I leave for work most mornings. This is the (slightly) waning moon Monday morning as I walked out the door. I always think photographing the moon is a challenge. Challenge met this time; I got detail!

Carpenter bee 3
Carpenter at work

Carpenter BEE, that is! Although almost the size of small flying mice, these bees are quite docile and make for good photo fodder. Bridgewater, NJ

Carpenter bee 2
Hiding behind a blossom

Like the moon shots, bugs and bees are a good challenge for me -- they're usually small and they move unexpectedly. Of course, the carpenter bees are larger than most of the insects I shoot. But they don't like to sit still long!

Hanging in there

Armored police
Yikes! The emergency?

The Union County Emergency Response team arrives at North Avenue, coming off of Watchung (Plainfield). Oh my, whatever can it be?

Sparkie's Playhouse
Oh! It's the fire safety fair!

Safety fair
Setting it up

I see this fire safety fair set up each year as I wait for the train. Alas, I've never seen the actual fair in action as I work every Saturday. North Avenue by the Plainfield Train Station.

spider
I met yet another spider

Isn't he cute? I mean ... as long as he's not in your bed or anything!

Spider 2
Right side up

I turned the photo around since I couldn't convince the spider to stop hanging upside down. I had to use a flash and it makes his eyes glow. Look! He has little ears and all! He looks kind of like a bat, doesn't he?

Stinkhorn trio
Stinkhorn trio

Speaking of waning ... the cool weather will shut down the stinkhorn mushrooms before long.

Shadow
Shadow

This is a photo I took for the October Photo A Day Challenge I'm doing on my Facebook page. A theme is set for each day of the month. This, obviously, was "Shadow." East Front Street near Roosevelt, Plainfield.

Insect on a twig
Gnat on a twig

Now, this was a REAL challenge as I was taking it without a macro lens! Bridgewater, NJ

Red and green
Fall colors seeping in

Along the fence at the Bridgewater Train Station. I used a touch of the "cartoon" filter on GIMP (photo editing program) to define it more.

Burning bush
Burning bush?

Yep, those bushes which go from green to red are in action now. Again, I used the "cartoon" filter for effect.

Vincent watches TV
The REAL 007 of Plainfield, NJ

Vincent wants to complain about the lack of good cat shows on Animal Planet. Plus, who's this John McClane character when everyone KNOWS Vincent is the 007 of Plainfield, NJ! What do you think he does all day while I'm at work? Nap? Huh!

My TV schedule has AR starting at 830! Has CBS actually decided to post a close to correct start time vs a guessing game?

Poor flowers and bugs will be under attack from frost soon! Not a spider fan but a great pic!

Thanks for the weekly update! I like new spider, but mourn the loss of Venus. :( Guess I should learn to not get too attached to anything with a limited lifespan.

Frost on the pumpkin in KCMO area today - and I love it!

Hope everyone has a great week xoxo

I am always amazed at your detail and perfect focus in your photos, especially of insects. (I'm not a photographer, so I don't know the right words to use, but I know craftsmanship when I see it.)

I love checking in to see your week in photos. They're all beautiful as always.

There's a chill in the air here as well. I love it. I also love the change in time for TAR. Maybe CBS has finally taken the hint.

Will still be late to the party so everyone have fun and behave tonight. :)
