Off Topic: That Was the Week It Was - May 8, 2016

I hope all of the mothers out there have a day full of love and family!

Since it's a Sunday morning, that means it's time for my weekly off television topic reflection on the week gone by in both words and photos I've taken along the way. Please stop by on show nights for east coast live blogging (and blog parties) for both The Amazing Race and Survivor!

I really don't have much for you this week. It was dreary, chilly, rainy, misty and grey for most of the week here. That's not very conducive to taking photos!

My new neighbor(s) moved in downstairs. I'm thinking it might be a middle-aged couple. Or, possibly one person. I saw a man moving in boxes last Sunday. But I don't know if he was the one moving in or was just helping the move. Other than some moving in noises, I really haven't heard anything from downstairs. Obviously, no kids. (Yay!) Chances are that I might not ever really meet them -- different floors, different halls used, etc. Heck, we won't even be sharing the elevator!

I invested two dollars, yet did not win the Powerball.

Onto this week's photos -- clicking on an image will open a larger version.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

I really don't know how quickly the luxury apartments in that new building and in the rehabbed old Miron Warehouse (in the backgrount) will rent out. The rental prices are a bit high for the neighborhood in its current state. As the Transit Village near the train station gets more underway, these downtown changes are definitely welcome. East Second Street, Plainfield.

I'll try not to be cynical

This post on the lawn of the Friends Meeting House (Quakers) on Watchung Avenue is a bit more optimistic about the state of the world than I am.

Rain, rain and more rain

Alarming

Yes, I'm in NJ Transit train car 7270 and that notice in gold means that someone tried to open a door while the train was moving. It wasn't me. I'm on the upper level. I can only try to open an emergency exit window.

They need to go away

This group, including the two in the shelter on the platform, just hang out and drink all day every day (and night) at the Plainfield Train Station. They litter the grounds. They recently broke out one of the windows in that shelter. I pity anyone who wants to walk to Park Avenue on the North Avenue side of the train station -- they have to go through this bunch. The Plainfield Police regularly move along the bums on the other side of the station, but don't attend to this. I swear the station could use an armed guard to move along people who aren't train passengers 24/7. It was never this bad.

My good fortune

Cookies, but not fortune cookies. A friend went home for a visit to China and brought me cookies. Very nice of her and very tasty indeed.

Well, it's boarded up.

I'm not sure if they let the apartment tenants from the upper floors return or not.

But ... but ...

... I don't WANT a huge kid! Do you know how much they eat?

Just a wet pigeon

And more rain

And more rain

And more rain

Vincent's all ears at this angle!

Beautiful, though wet flower shots this week... Also, however unrealistic, I have always appreciated the sentiments of the Quakers...
On a different note, What is Vincent doing for you this Mothers' Day?

Thank you. The Quakers are generally a peaceful intended group -- I recall some years back they regularly held protests against the war. As for Vincent, thankfully he didn't bring me a breakfast mouse in bed.
