The Amazing Race - Season Premiere Blog Gathering

Jackie's TV Blog, Amazing Race, TAR

Yes, it's time for ... The Amazing Race! Yay! I'll be writing a more thorough review for TV Squad a bit later tonight, but this is the place for the party! I'll update the post here with important events and all are welcome to join us in the comments area. Margo is running the pool and may your team (or mine) win the first leg! Once again, Zoetawny has created yet another spiffy show logo for the blog. Have I mentioned that she rocks lately?

It's off to Switzerland. I don't like Preston and Jennifer and they're living up to my expectations.

  2. I recognize the gay Hollywood writer from The Good Girl and other lil movies. But I don't want him to win. I like the stunt men & the older, fit couple and Steve & Linda.

  7. stuntmen will LOVE this jump!

    ReplyDelete
  8. No fair the stuntmen have an edge in this...

    ReplyDelete
  9. I already dislike Preston! Don't care much for Steve either. I do not care for men who are disrespectful to their wife/girlfriend or women in general. Don't care for disrespectful women either.

  10. I am a little behind..i really like not having all the airport time shown. Hopefully it means more of the actual race being shown.

  11. When I grow up, I'd like to be like Bad & Victoria.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh, I can't wait to see it!! Two and half more hours for me!

  13. Interlocken is amazing, Samantha Brown went there.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'd LOVE to do that bungee jump!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nomad - is this ruining the show for you? I'll try not to give too much away.

Switzerland is like a dream/fantasy place for me. Not only is it cold & beautiful, but my love Roger Federer is from there. (Wonder if he's made that jump?)

  16. OK Jackie you can do it for the team...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jackie - me too! I actually said "amazing" as I was watching. Corny, huh?

  24. Major entertainment for the locals!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Found it on the internet...forget where. Sucker for animals

    ReplyDelete
  26. seems like just rolling the cheese wheels down is a much more effective way to move them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. D - it's so cute it looks like a puppet. Awww...

    ReplyDelete
  28. WOW we even get yodeling!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. The natives are loving the cheese haulers. Love the guy sliding down the hill.

The "little people made up some time.

I REALLY dislike Steve. I don't think I can stand him very long.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I really like your Marde Gras mask too and your V'day pic was sweet

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wobbles does that when he is cleaning his face, of course I would never get a pic of that myself. Wets his paws then cleans his ears.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Glad mother and son team hit the mat first.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, whoever it was that slip halfway down the hill on his butt - that was FUN-NY!

    ReplyDelete
  34. 2 of the 1st 3 teams have handicaps yet they did not let it affect them. Marvelous

    ReplyDelete
  35. OMG! I had no idea the stuntment were oompa loompas! WOW! Really, I couldn't tell 'til I saw them standing there. The jokes are too obvious, so I won't write them, cuz they're cool guys.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Those cheese carriers are garbage, no way are those the real thing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. WOW - most of the younger, "fit" teams are still hauling cheese.

    ReplyDelete
  38. this cheese thing is the funniest thing i have seen in a while!

    ReplyDelete
  39. WOW what a ending, thought the fly girls would be last. Editing kept us on edge.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That was an "amazing" first episode.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Great first episode, hope rest at same level.

Good night all hope some have off for Presidents Day.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I shoulda TiVo'd this; it's worth a re-watch.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great show! Catch you guys later. I think this will be a good season. For one thing Ken and his wife are not on it! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  44. Look for it at cbs.com and watch on your puter

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh yeah, D. Thanks!

Have a good Presidents Day, everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have the stunt guys with sydney and jennasmom... they were pretty good... of course the bungy jump would be nothing to either of them. they came in 3rd... good enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Poo- my team is out first leg. I thought they would last a while as Preston seems fairly athletic, but I know that is not the only factor. Oh well..I will have fun cheering on the others.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I watched and it was fun. Our team is still in it, lynn1 and Caroline. and they are darn good looking too. A dating couple.

Okay, I laughed during the cheese thing but felt bad, 'cause I could see it was difficult..almost impossible to do. And the falls looked painful.

The one flight girl who had to jump was interesting to watch. It will be good to see if she uses the same method for other parts of the race. She was frightened, calmed herself quitely, and then seemed to not make a sound when she jumped. Or did I miss a scream?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Steve was very smart with his cheese sled. But it doesn't look good for next week.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Didn't hear her scream but she sure had her eyes clenched tightly shut when she jumped off. More guts than I have.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah for Brad and Victoria! Orkmommy, we are in the middle of the pack! They seem to get along great.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm watching the cheese part now. I couldn't do this at all, so I feel bad about laughing at them, but it is funny to watch!

I'm not liking my Steve/Linda team much tonight. He is so rude to her and she seems too wimpy.

If I ever get to Switzerland, I want to relax and enjoy all the beauty!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well, that was a great show! It was a close finish and somehow my team is still in the game. I'm not at all sure Steve and Linda will make it one more week, though!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm still watching, but have to comment. There are already two teams I'm tired of. Preston & Jennifer and Steve & Linda. It's just too early in the game to be grinchy to each other!

OMGosh! The cheese! I feel so sorry for them all. Parts are so funny, but it's amazing that nobody is getting hurt.

    Yippee!! Jeannemarie, our guys won!

    ReplyDelete
  55. WOw, that was a great episode! I had to watch it late on TIvo due to other plans but my men are still in. The couple who got booted may love each other and get married but I sure was glad to lose the typcially cast "bickering couple" from the get go. Now if the Virginian couple can just not take up the mantle it'd be nice.

I was worried about my team, but I knew they'd be fearless on that jump. WOW, Have you ever seen a bungee that went so far down?

Definitely a few impressive teams, from just their introductions. The airline gals, the harvard sibs, the "older" couple from Ohio, and I have a soft spot for the Gay dad and son. I know they prolly won't make it to the end but what a great experience to share. And I never assume my hearing impaired fellow man was any less than. I'm glad they won the first round, but I hope his hearing isn't made into an issue every ep. They're very capable.

Siz, I picked up on the airline stewardess who got her sh*t together and did that jump without a peep or a grimace. It was just downright maturity. Very impressed!

  57. Great show last night. I'm loving my team so far (Tammy & Victor). I hope you like them too Delee. I'll try to blog along next week, but it gets a little hectic for me trying to watch and type at the same time, LOL. I'm surprised to see Preston & Jennifer go so early, but I can't say I'm sad about it. I don't see Steve and Linda lasting very long. She really seems to have no stamina at all.

    ReplyDelete
  58. RBennie -- this show is even harder to blog live than Survivor. You could just wait til the commercials and type stuff in then, and read later worst case!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Leslie -- If you want to join Meb and Jennas mom and I to cheer on Mark and Mike, you're welcome... since we share Sydney on Survivor, it only seems right! Meband Jennasmom rock too.

Jackie -- I can;'t believe you said you'd want to do that Bunbgee! Cool. It would leave you feeling like you could do anything if you did but it would not be my first choice...

    ReplyDelete
  60. I did not get to watch last night because of a death in the family, great-uncle.

Our team did alright with Nana and Monty cheering them on though. A co-worker of mine has a deaf son attending Rochester!! I will have a find out if he knows this guy on TAR.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I wonder if Jackie could bungie jump with the new knee and the bad knee? Since tying to the legs are involved.

rBennie, all I can say is we will see.

I hope 1st place finishes are more spread out this season. Got tired of the same ones winnning and winning the trips and prizes.

Makes ya wonder, do not some watch the show and see how phyically fit you must be and there is always running...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Happy President's Day!

What a great beginning to a new season of TAR! I watched not knowing who I had in our pool but had to jump on the pc to find out if I had already been philiminated. Whew! Sugee, we made it.

I was afraid I might have gotten "Linda" and Steve in our pool. I didn't like the way he was treating her but he mellowed a bit as the show went on. We'll have to see more episodes to see if he encourages her or invalidates her efforts.

    Jackie...

I'm happy you don't dislike (my team) Christie and Jodi. Jodi, who is the older one, seems to have a lot of determination and was encouraging Christie to never give up. I glad they're not just a couple of "dumb blondes". I would have a hard time cheering them on.

    Jackie...

I can't imagine wanting to bungee jump. You must have been more of an athlete than me. ;) I think I would jump much the same as Jodi, eyes closed, too scared to death to even scream out loud.

The cheese challenge even had my (unwilling to watch TAR) hub laughing his head off. The cheese carriers were a joke. Did they really use those contraptions to carry cheese? But, I'm sure it must not have been up and down a huge hill. I think I might have sat on one of those cheese rounds and slid my way down that hill. :D

    Catch up with you later!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sydney- I will happily join you in rooting for Mark and Mike! I like (mostly) all of the teams, although Steve and his wife were a bit annoying. He did kick but on the cheese hill! Next week looks like it will be every bit as good as the premire!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am sorry my team was philiminated. Now I will just cheer on other teams. I like the mother and son and also the brother and sister.

    Karen

  65. Zoetawny,

I couldn't figure out why the rest of the teams didn't just roll the cheese down the hill. No got penalized when the first teams accidentally dropped them and they rolled down the hill. They just retrieved them at the bottom and put the cheese on the stacks. It seemed like a much faster way to get the cheese to the bottom.

  66. I am telling you I practically fell off the couch laughing so much at the cheese carriers breaking. Thinking, thank God it wasn't me and no one seemed to be hurt badly. But you are right about not having to REALLY carry the cheese the correct way. The Virgian guy took three and rigged them like a sled while she slid down with the 4th. MY team had nothing on their rears, so I wonder how they made it without sliding? The editing did not show them. See you next Sunday!

  67. Leslie -- OK! It's awwn!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Finally got to watch the show. I never get to watch anything live! Thank goodness for Tivo! Glad our stunt boys are still in it. Leslie, welcome aboard the Michael & Mark team!

And I don't think I could do that bungee jump for even a million dollars as I would die from a heart attack and not be here to collect it!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm a little behind in my Tv this week, my friend from N. Carolina is up for a week's vacation. But now that I watched the ep, I have to say it was awesome.

Sizzie, Lynn1...I love our team. They were my fav from the intro videos Jackie posted and I look forward to rooting them on. And since we didn't see much footage this week, I'll take it as a good sign that they worked together and had very little drama.

The cheese wheel challenge was hysterical. I would have loved to see how that one team made it without getting their butts dirty. I never could have done the bungee jump and I know things like that are the main reason I could never be on this show.

And I also agree that in the beginning of the season I hope we see lots of different teams come in first...it'll keep it more exciting towards the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Welcome to our team Leslie... I really like Mark and Michael... they are short, so don't run as fast, but they are stunt men, so probably strong and will be good in most of the challenges.

I didn't really see any team that I didn't like except the one that went home.

The older couple (the husband) needs to encourage his wife which I think he was trying to do in the end. But in the beginning, he was not very kind. She can't run... he'll have to accept that. Didn't he know that before they applied for the show? Wouldn't you try to get physically fit before applying to be on a show like this?
