Survivor Tocantins -- Season Premiere

jackie's tv blog, survivor

Welcome one! Welcome all! It's the season premiere of Survivor Tocantins! Zoetawny has made us another rockin' blog logo for the show and ORKMommy will once again be running the blog pool in the comments area.

While my more extensive show review will be posted later at TV Squad, this post will be updated with events and my thoughts as the show airs here on the East Coast. Everyone is invited to party in the comments -- just remember, if you make a mess in there, you have to clean it up.

Survivors ready? It's ON!

Yikes ... Sierra and Sandy voted off? They won't go on "this adventure." This adventure turns out to be the four-hour trek to camp. They get to fly. We've been had. So, two are NOT voted out right away!

Timbira wins fire and immunity! Sandy better find that idol or, they might go for weak Carolina. Hmm.

Yep, they voted out Carolina! (I know I will have some more comments about her on TV Squad!)

  1. Great graphics today, Zoetawny.

    Here we GOOOOOOoooooooooooo!

  2. Looks more pink to me than red

    ReplyDelete
  3. Hey, these are normal-looking women - not stick figures. Cool!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Looks like we're off to the races right away. Teams formed, wearing colors and buffs.

And it also looks like everyone had a pre-prepared bundle of supplies aleady sitting at their feet in getting off the truck.

Why do they look surprised that it's a 4 hour trek.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Delee --Looks orange to me, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Nic, Grammy and I are what closer in age? She looks like she's going to cry,

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ugh sorry Sandy peeps! Is there a twist?

    ReplyDelete
  8. This vote is bait...there'll be a twist, right?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Stay away from me with your STREP THROAT!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sierra really should do home; she could spread her illness all over camp!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wow called it they do not have to trek, HAHA they get to fly!

  25. darn, the older woman is hurt. I hope she's not broken already!

    ReplyDelete
  26. :::sniffle::: I'm Sandy's age.

    Coach is obnoxious!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Petals, I'm 30 miles north of Birmingham. I don't know where Samson is but I sure know Auburn where Debbie is from!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey guys -- Yay I have Sydney! THought I am rooting for the older woman. But STOP CRYING!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Samson is near Dothan near the FL border

    ReplyDelete
  30. Okay, I'm going to have to call one of you and let you tell me if my accent is that bad!! I don't think it is.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Auburn - cool! One of my husbands alma mater.

Jackie - Don't sniffle. You know "older" on this show means anyone over 30! Kids these days - geesh!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sydney you are not rooting for Sydney are ya...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  33. Would love to see the II come out tonight. I'm not sure she would know how to work it though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. WOw she's PALE!

She also looks just loke my niece, who has that kind of Drew Barrymore crooked-cute mouth.

Both choose to do a different thing -- we shall see, will the tribe like that she set up camp or not like it like the older woman said?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do not call me Donna, after 12 yrs there I do not hear it...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, "Sayndee" has a thick twaaaannng.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Zoetawny, great logo! Looking forward to seeing my person.

They should not let the girl with strip throat even near the camp!

I'm afraid the orange team will be like the losing tribe last year. I can't believe they did not grab food and water. That means the black team gets double rations.

I have already decided I don't think Sandy will last past the first vote, the second if she wins the idol.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sayndee is a smoker - what'll she do without her cigs?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I do believe Sandy has false teeth..

    ReplyDelete
  40. Syd - you're right - I see Drew there.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Monty good to see you!

    ReplyDelete
  42. She'll be a big biotch unless she finds a way to smoke all that grass...heehee

    ReplyDelete
  43. First impressions: Coach is a pompous horse's ass.

Sandy talks too much and is vindictive.

    ReplyDelete
  44. With all the camera time they are giving Sandy, do you think she will leave tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh man, I just went back thru the clips and discovered that my Debbie is "Boom-Boom" or bubbles or something. I hope she keeps her twins tied-up for a while. hehea

    ReplyDelete
  46. Slow beginning so far, or at least thats me. I don't have a clue who to root for, lol. Hi Back Delee... and all!

    ReplyDelete
  47. THey may not have gotten water, but watermelons are 80% water. So they did not do that bad.

    ReplyDelete
  48. She's a loon. Doesn't know what a pace is?????

    ReplyDelete
  49. She's gonna need that idol... that stick in the sand has more brains.

    ReplyDelete
  50. ugh too soon for nudity

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hey Monty! Good to see you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm not liking naked boy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sierra worked her butt off making a camp and that coach says she has to go? Jeeze, I sure am glad I don't have HIS name!

Hey, Petals! Who is Debra and what tame is she on?

Sandy does not know what a pace is? Just because she is older is no excuse!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Looked like Sandy did not know what a palm tree was either!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ty can cover his junk with (blech) "exotic furs and a man tiara". Ok. He's a Mormon pimp.

    ReplyDelete
  56. 120... I'd die out there! Have to give them some props.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Deb is on the blue team. Blonde - in a gray sack dress/thing.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hope Sandy found the idol, but I doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Loved the maze... something different. I can't imagine a campfire with the temp at 120. I know they need it for boiling water, but... Anyone know how cold it gets at night in Brazil?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Night temps no, but if temps drop 20 degrees at night you would feel chilled.

    ReplyDelete
  61. wow -- you can't win no matter what. I fyou build the camp, you weren't there to share the 4 hour journey of bonding. If you don't do the camp so no one is pissed off,t hey are pissed off!

    ReplyDelete
  62. woops that comment above posted late.

I got a new battery in my laptop.. LIVE BLOGGING RETURNS!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sydney is a pretty girl! And so is the Sydney on Survivor. hehe *wink*

    ReplyDelete
  64. Gee, a young person who's THINKING. Just cuz she's older it's not a shoe in to vote her off.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sandy may make it pretty far. I remember seeing Ty saying that the "old lady" bugged him or something like that. He could have been talking about the older blond on his tribe, but you never know. Hmmm

    ReplyDelete
  66. Donna in AL said... Okay, I'm going to have to call one of you and let you tell me if my accent is that bad!! I don't think it is.

Donna, some of the BB say I have an accent. I don't think so, everyone around here talks just like me! LOLOLOL

One of the girls from NYC had to change planes in Houston. She called me when she got to her gate and told me, "You were right, they all DO sound like you!"

Petals I noticed I said tame and not team.

Looks like they may vote out Caroline.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Caroline must think she is Britney Spears with the cowboy boots. But seriously in that heat boots!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Does she or doesn't she have it????

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm liking me some JT...mmm hmmm

    ReplyDelete
  70. I say she doesn't have it... based on what she said with her vote.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Is it too late to get into the pool?

    ReplyDelete
  72. How old IS Sandy anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Taj looks like Bernie Mac.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Amazing, Sandy lives for a another day.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Dusty, ORKMommy is the one doing the poll, hopefully she will see you want in.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh man not again, Laurie and I are out! I was out second on the last Survivor!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Regardless of my earlier comment about the fire, I'm glad they give the losing tribe fire at council now. It was brutal watching tribes on other seasons struggle to earn their fire.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Orkmommy, thank you for doing the pool.

Laurie and Donna, would you like to join Petals and I. I still don't know who Debra is, but you are welcome to come with us.

The tribe made the right choice. My Momma is 90 and in a lot of ways she can outwork me! Sandy did work hard on the challange.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Donna - do you want to take one of mine? I am twice in the pool, by accident. I have Brendan & Debbie - you so you take one of those, if you like.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Sandy is 53, wow that is ancient LOL

    ReplyDelete
  81. Sydney - Sandy is 53. I'm SO not her 53

    ReplyDelete
  82. Sydney said... How old IS Sandy anyway?

Someone said 53. Still a baby in MY book.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Ms Jackie - YOU know what a pace is.

    ReplyDelete
  84. No you are NOT, Jackie! :) I thought tonight moved along a little slow tonight. Looks like next week could be better. Here's to a fun season.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'll take you up on that Becky especially since she's a bama girl.

    ReplyDelete
  86. You asked for it:

A pace (or double-pace) is a measure of distance used in Ancient Rome. It is the measure of a full stride from the position of the heel when it is raised from the ground to the point the same heel is set down again at the end of the step.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I believe I knew what a pace was when I was about six.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thank you Delee! If only someone could get that info to Sandy.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Delee - Well, I couldn't have expressed a pace that way when I was six ... but I knew paces -- they're part of games.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Not really a measurement as people of different heights would have different lenghts of strides.

Enjoyed it all, now till Sunday and AR!!!

    Thanks Jackie

    ReplyDelete
  91. When you have an older brother who wants to have a dual with cap guns, you learn what a pace is. And you learn not to take the last one!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Got that from Wikipedia. Paces were used in duels too. Ten paces turn and shoot! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Donna, you and I think alike!!!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thank you Ms Jackie, and to Ork for re-opening the pool. I'm jumping in the deep end!

Becky & Donna - I'll take myself off from Debbie and just with Brendan as Jodie. So now it's all even again. Cool?

G'nite all. Stress & early-rising make ME the "old lady" here. xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  95. Donna in AL said... I'll take you up on that Becky especially since she's a bama girl.

A girl from the South, what's not to like?

I went to the Survivor site and looked up Debra. She is the blond middle school principal. That should come in handy when some start acting like a couple of teenagers! She sure doesn't look like she has had five kids!

It gets hot in Texas, but I don't think I could do 120.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Maybe the humidity is low and the 120 degrees doesn't feel like it. Yeah right, I'd be collapsing.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jackie -- I KNOW you're so not her 53. Geeze, you don't have a line on your face! And you're a pop culture goddess, on top of things.

Unfair to say granny when you're like 30 though. I could understand MOM... MAYBE I mean, I'm 3 years younger than her and guys his age were asking me out last I was dating, lol. YEESH!

PS: Has anyone taken a look at the spring-like google logo today? Pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Oh My - Stephen the muppet?? ROFL (The last time I was in a pool I won)

Can't wait to watch the show here on the West Coast

    Sue

    ReplyDelete
  99. I have Sydney in the pool, and she is a pretty girl...but I think i will have to re-watch the show as I don't really remember anything she did tonight. Sandy did have a lot of face time, so I was sure she was going.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Becky, thanks for the offer to join you. I'll take you up on that.

A friend in Toronto said tonight was a big *yawn*. I'll judge that for myself in about 12 minutes!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hi Leslie -- We've both got Sydney and we're both in Houston? What a coincidence!

THey didn't show much of our girl at all, til the very end. I liked what I saw of her in the little video Jackie posted.

Tonight the TV guide channel did have their usual Survivor warm up and I chuckled at Jeff's assessment of Carolina (the girl who was voted out first). He said he thought she would go far. Doh!

    ReplyDelete
  102. This is my first time reading your blog in this new time zone I live in. Here the show ends in ten or fifteen minutes Now I know what is going to happen over the next ten minutes and i can see it coming. I don't mind knowing the answers ahead of time, it makes me feel a little prophetic, truth be told.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I mean...it is not my first time reading your blog since I moved here - it is my first time reading your blog during a show we all love since I moved here. The first three months we lived here we did not have internet access.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Orkmommy--I am listed in the pool twice, also....unless you have a Joyce and a Nana in the NW. I will give up my spot for Sandy since that's where I was listed second. If no one else wants in then I will root for her and Joe. Your the lifeguard at this pool so let me know. :)

I would say everyone was READY for Survivor....109 posts the first night! I did think it moved slow, and Sandy isn't the brightest....what is a pace and where is a lone palm tree??? There was nobody that jumped out at me as really likeable or an early favorite....although, JT is pretty cute in a roughneck sort of way.

I am going to re-watch the show when my hubby isn't in the room adding his "opinions" about people!

    Bring on Amazing Race!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Orkmommy -
There is a request from Jeannemarie on the Joaquin Phoenix/Letterman post late tonight wanting to know if it was too late for her to get in on the Survivor pool. Don't know if you saw it or not.

I have Brandon. Was he even on the show tonight? LOL Don't remember seeing him - or he didn't make much of an impression.

Hey, I just turned 53. Hope I don't have that many wrinkles!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Happy Birthday Jennasmom! You're in good company.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hey all! I thought it was a good beginning though I do miss the old 2 hour premier! Someone's comment of the snap judgements....Sandy is "crazy" by her own admission. Both of the "isolated" ones worked hard in the challenge. I was glad for Sierra as I know now that I have her in the pool!

    ReplyDelete
  108. So Sydney has Sydney, perfect!
    I'm glad Sandy stayed; she's a character.g

    ReplyDelete
  109. Have a SAFE Friday 13th & Valentine's Day Eve, everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Happy Friday the 13th,
    make your own luck and
    make it good!!

Laurie, I saw your email last night and had to slap my own hands not to tell you we were voted out!! I am joining Becky in rooting for Debbie too.

    ReplyDelete
  111. hi guys, I am in PA right now, and I had to DVR it and watch it when everyone went to bed...so Im on Coach watch with Gayle?
I had hopes for him, but hmmmm not so sure.
Gosh a 4 hour trek is wore than a swim to land for sure....120 degree heat? I would wish I was voted off right away....
Thanks Zoetawny for the great graphic and for Jackie (did we tell you you rock?) and her great reporting!
    So glad its back on!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. rozee... we both have Sierra. Even as sick as she was, she did a lot of work at the camp and she was also pretty good in the challenge. I just hope they don't send her packing just because she didn't have a chance to "bond" with the "dead people walking". LOL

As for Sandy... not knowing what a pace is was ridiculous. I know it's not a perfect measure, but you walk it off and take your chances.

I don't remember Jeff asking if anyone had the idol before the vote. It was possible that Sandy did have it and may have needed it? Did I just miss him asking the question. I know everyone except Sandy wouldn't know what he meant since they didn't see the tree mail, but it just made me curious.

Whoever it was who took his clothes off,was a jerk. What was the point? I can enjoy a naked man as well as the next person, but only if that's my choice. He would not have been my choice.

The youngest of the group had the brains to convince the group to get rid of Carolina instead of Sandy. He saw the value in Sandy (even tho she can get on your nerves and still probably won't last much longer), but he knew she did well in the challenge where Carolina just got in the way.

Did you notice Carolina, when they were trying to get the stepping boards up to the steps to build the stairs, she was in front of the innnertubes and they were pushing her along slowing them down. No wonder they lost the challenge. I'm glad she's gone, sorry to those who had her in the pool.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Meb! You crack me up! Which man do you want to see disrobe?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Does anyone know how team colors were chosen? Seems like a disadvantage getting stuck in black for a hike in 120 degree with sun.

    Kathy in NC

    ReplyDelete
  115. I guess they must have known their team colors, etc. before they got there since they were all kind of dressed in the colors. I, too, was thinking about who was dumb enough to pick black for a hot place like that!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Hi guys. I thought the show was pretty good last night. I have Jerry and like what I see so far. I hope that the teams are more well matched than last season. I was a little surprised that Carolina went first, but she did come on a little too strong way too early. I don't think Sandy should get too comfortable though. Frankly, I'm amazed she found the stick in the sand. I don't think there's much hope she will find the next clue, LOL. Does anyone know if there will be an exile island this season? I already don't like that Coach guy.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Petals...being the dirty ole lady (DOL) that I am... no... not really going there. If anyone is going to be naked, they should be in front of me in person... no on the tv.

Rbennie..."amazed Sandy found the stick"... absolutely the funniest comment ever... where do you come up with them?

Zoetawny... kudos on all the new graphics. You are so talented.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Oh I should have pointed out my wv for Petals re who would I want to disrobe.... wv: noodo No do that!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Hope your Friday 13th was uneventful, Ms Jackie (as in BAD or UNLUCKY events, that is).

    Any sight of Roofus?

  123. Margo said: Should I add Zoetawny and PDX Granny even though they have not responded? Your thoughts please.

    ***
Good question, Margo. PDX Granny is paired with me on the Survivor list (I haven't been able to watch yet and haven't seen 'our girl'), and Zoetawny checks in when she can and gifts us with the graphics. I would put them in until you hear differently, but that is just my opinion. I am so happy you are doing the pool. It makes the show fun to have someone to root for, even if I don't much like the team I have. If that made sense.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Margo...

Please DO add me to the TAR pool unless it's too late. I'm sorry I forgot to let you know. Thanks!

Looks like an interesting outspoken group this season. I'll have to get their names straight. It usually takes me a couple of episodes. ;)

Sandy was a hoot after she stopped sniveling. It's hard to take her seriously but her determination is strong and she might surprise us.

I'm not that surprised that Caroline was voted off, but thought the younger pier group would have voted off Sandy. I have to give them credit for not judging someone's ability by their age. If these people have watched Survivor before why don't they know that if you act domineering and take control too soon you will be going home soon.

Spencer is the youngest of the group but his reasoning last night showed more maturity than I would have surmised. I could change my mind but I'm not liking (coach)Benjamin so much...cocky attitude. His attitude reminds me of Robert from last season. Jerry seems pretty cool, likeable and is playing it low key.

    Sydney...

Sydney is quite attractive and hopefully she plays smart. It will be fun reading you rooting her on.

Is Tyson going to be the younger version of Richard Hatch? I have to admit that the in-your-face nudity would embarrass me. I wouldn't know where to look if I were talking to him. Just read that his fav movie is "The Jerk".

    Orkmommy...

Thanks for all your work getting us organized. I'll have to go read Erinn's bio again...ok...just read it. She seems level headed at least in her bio. I wouldn't mind having a hairdresser around to help put my hair in a French braid. Her social skills dealing with salon clients may help her in this game. Hopefully Erinn doesn't ally with coach.

Age is just a number, Jackie. It's all in the attitude. Coach IS obnoxious. Does his attitude remind you of someone from last season?

Off Topic... Jackie, sorry to hear the cortisone shot isn't helping much with the knee pain. Maybe when your weather warms up a bit it won't be so bad. Have you tried any anti-inflammatory drugs?

I wasn't sure either. Everyone's pace is different and I didn't know if there is a standard rule...like 2'-3'. I do tend to overthink and make things too complicated. I asked my hub, "What's a pace?" and he said it was salsa, which he doesn't like, btw.

Good to see everyone here again. I asked on a previous entry about not seeing "joy n" here for a while. I probably have missed something but hope she's ok.

    Thanks for everything, Jackie.

    Ciao!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Margo -I second Sizzie's thoughts. I think they'd want to be included. I think they both watch it. Not sure.

Zoe, that last American Idol graphic was incredible! Best yet!

MEb - good point, that they didn't show Jeff asking for the Idol. I think the producers saw the vote was for Caroline and that Sandy would stay, told him not to ask for it (because no one knows there would be one) and that will allow Sandy's sotryline of looking to keep going. AND ROFLMAO about the naked man stuff.

What I don't know is if Sierra (flu girl) who also arrived early got a chance for an idol. Seems not. None of these things occurred to me while watching.

And I didn't notice a "slow" opening. I guess when live blogging it all seems to go so fast and I miss parts too.

Donna - -cap gun story, lol.

Hi Brent! Even Jeff Probst sais he thought coach was a conceited guy -but possibly "the most fascinating player" so far on the show. He said he's almost "Richard Hatch conceited"... for what that's worth.

  126. Sydney, Sierra had the same choice that Sandy had--look for the idol or set up camp. She said everyone would probably think she was crazy but she was choosing to set up camp because first impressions are long lasting. I think she thought that would be more valuable than one-shot to use an idol if she even found it.

  128. Margo, I saw that you counted me in on the TAR pool! Thanks! I've been way too busy at work lately to make it to Jackie's, so I've been missing a lot. In fact, last night was the first time I've had a chance to visit in about a month. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Sizzie, we're together for Survivor. I forgot our gals name, Chantrel, or something like that. But I'm still not sure which one she is. I just might have to start my catching up with the bios that Jackie posts. Have you been able to make any observations about her yet? I'm going to take it as a good thing that she wasn't focused on. That must mean she's not too much of a strong player. They don't seem to last long.
