  13. Dee - you are right! Japanese have already figured out that SUVs are gas-suckers! Gas is $3.35/gallon here!

  14. I like my SUV and will never drive a small vehicle no matter the price. Need the room for travel.

  15. Petals, my friend know that I need the Me Days to rejuvenate myself. I have a lot of the care of my almost 93 year old mother and my DH and his brother had the care of their ill brother.

I try and go out to lunch, get my nails done or just do something like sit and read a book from cover to cover every other week at least.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Aww, NO! I love Mel & Mike.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sad to see Mel and Mike go, but they were freezing and that is dangerous!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, I hate to see Mel and Mike go.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think it's probably a good thing that Mel and Mike gave up. They both seemed weaker this season.

  41. Petals, sorry I didn't get back to you with the dryer story. It's a local story. A couple with two children (5 and 18 months) were in a laundromat. One of them got the bright idea to take a "funny picture" with the 5 year old in a dryer. Apparently the kid was scared and crying but they put him in anyway and took the picture with Dad's holding a coin near the coin slot. They never turned on the dryer nor intended to and supposedly the kid quieted right down when they gave him the quarter afterwards.

Well, the whole thing was caught on video surveillance. Now, my position is that it was silly and a little mean since the kid was afraid, but in no way was the kid ever in danger. Nonetheless, they arrested both parents for endangering the welfare of a minor. They could lose the kids, etc. And it just seemed to me to be such an abuse of the system. By their logic, any mother using a cell phone with a kid in the car should be charged with the same thing (or worse). Heck, any mother caught speeding or running a stop sign with a kid in the car could be charged the same way.

Am I crazy here? I mean where is the threat to the kid. It was maybe dumb and possibly a little mean (they should have given the kid the quarter first! LOL), but criminal????

  42. Gonna get ready for ni-night. I have 11 pillows on my bed, so it takes as much time to turn it down as it does to to make it! G'nite guys!
    G'nite boyfriend. xxx

    ReplyDelete
  43. Joe, that happened in the laundromat in my town here.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Joe - OMG. Ca-RAZY that they arrested the parents. That is more damaging to the kid than the dryer!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Richard Hatch on Celeb. Apprent.!

    ReplyDelete
  46. The D & C paper says that the father held the door shut as the child cried. The woman was not the child's mother.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi joy n,

Yes, the 18 month old was theirs, the 5 year old was his.

Again, I'm not saying it was nice or even right. But criminal?

My family has a picture of the 4 of us kids taken at Letchworth with us on the wrong side of the stone wall near the gorge. My father shot it from an angle so it looks like we're dangling over the gorge but we're standing on a strip of earth about 4 feet wide. Now, if you ask me we were in much greater danger than the kid in the dryer. And I'm pretty sure everyone has done something stupid with their kids at some point from drinking while they are sleeping to leaving candles burning by mistake, to speeding, biking without helmets, eating while driving, turning to yell at the kids while driving, etc.

It's all a little dumb and a little risky but it shouldn't (IMHO) be criminalized.

  48. I agree, thw authorities seem to have gone overboard on this. Criminal charges seem far-fetched. But the 5 year old had to be a bit scared. They said he cried for his dad to stop. Maybe one class of safer parenting.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well, Richard Hatch is still in prime a-hole mode on Celebrity Apprentice, isn't he?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree, joyn. Glad to see prison didn't mellow him out any. :)

    Rooting for the cowboys, anyway!

  53. I was sad to see Mel and Mike eliminated. I was hoping it was the girls instead. That penalty against the Globetrotters seemed a bit harsh, I thought. It seemed like they got a penalty because the father/daughter whined and were upset. I thought it was much to do about nothing.
