Big Brother 12 - HOH/Nominations Show Blog Party - August 15

big brother,jackiestvblog

The show is delayed here on the East Coast due to golf. Once it starts, I'll post important updates in this entry. But the real fun is in the comments section. Everyone is invited to join in with your thoughts! Later tonight (or, worst case scenario, early in the morning), my full show review will be posted over on TV Squad.

Golf is still on at 8 PM ET. We still have to go through 60 Minutes.
Grr.

9:24 PM ET and it's finally starting.

Brendon won HOH, named Britney, Matt and Ragan Have Nots. The bell rang when he rang it, but it must have been reenacted because he slammed it about five times with no result on the feeds.

He nominated Lane and Ragan for eviction.

  1. so glad you posted this, as big brother seems to be my favorite show lately, I was stoked to watch it, then I see this golf on, and tv guide doesn't even show golf should be on, so I was confused. I do hope they just skip 60 minutes & go right to it...

  2. I grilled some chicken & apple sausages so dig in gang while we wait for our show to start.

  6. It is now 8:15pm and still golf. Geez, I hope it ends soon, or BB is going to be on past my bedtime.

  10. RyzandShyn, I buy them at Whole Foods. I believe you can get them at Sams too.
    They really are delicious.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Give us a break, CBS. Skip 60 Minutes for once.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, golf is over but if you have to go through 60 minutes, too, you may be watching it the same time we are in the west coast.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's gonna be a late night for us easterners!

    ReplyDelete
  14. They tease us with that commercial and then, tick, tick, tick......

    ReplyDelete
  15. Argh... it will be 9:25 here in the east. :(

I better sit out beside the pool for now.

    ReplyDelete

  20. haha this is totally cbs's way of making us pay for live feed!

    ReplyDelete
  21. joyn... exactly... I actually sat down when I saw the teaser... thinking it was starting! Well, we have another hour to lounge around in the pool. JimmyB, quit splashing.. I don't want to get my hair wet!

  22. Thanks, Lynn 1. There is a Whole Foods near me. I probably sound like a weirdo, but I went there and looked around a few times. So much of it is so foreign to me I wouldn't even know what to do with it. That which isn't foreign seems just so darn expensive. I have purchased some stuff there to try, they have killer pineapple salsa.

  23. Well, at least golf is over and we're part way thru 60 minutes. God forbid they EVER cancel it and just get to the program we want to watch.

    No skipping 60 Minutes. Ever.

Back in the '60s, when 60 Minutes started making the weekly Nielsen ratings' top ten, CBS instituted a policy that the show would "push the network." That is, if something else like live sports ended after 7PM ET, 60 Minutes would be pushed back to start at the end of the event and would be seen in its entirety, every week. The term comes from how it pushes the entire network's lineup later into the evening, so even the local news starts late.

Due to programming commitments and ad sales, CBS does not cancel any Sunday night shows scheduled to air, even if they're reruns. They will occasionally do so on Saturday nights, but not on Sundays.

This is what makes The Amazing Race so frustrating to watch on a DVR: it can begin anywhere from 8PM to 9:30PM ET due to NFL Football in the fall, and DVR owners really can't plan for it. CBS said last fall it was rolling out a new service to send text messages when the network was pushed for just that reason. I signed up on day one. I never got one message from them. Ever. Giant FAIL.

Fox works around this by scheduling either reruns (animation) or low-rated shows (Till Death) in the 7PM ET Sunday hour. If football runs long, you're not missing anything. In recent years, actually, they've started listing NFL post-game shows to run until 7PM ET. It doesn't always work on days when they have a single game, because some markets get a 1PM ET kickoff and some get a 4:15PM ET kickoff. The former games are done and they see the Fox schedule; the latter markets are not done and do not see any 7PM ET shows.

However, The Simpsons pushes the network on Fox at 8PM. A new Simpsons episode always starts as soon after 8PM as possible, and all the remaining shows air after it with the same delay. The 7PM ET reruns do not push Fox, but the 8PM ET shows do.

Anyway, I cancelled my recording and set a new manual one for 9:25 PM to 10:30 PM, and that should cover it. This time.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It looks like they decided to air 60 minutes first so the show may be delayed until 9:30 pm eastern time.

  26. PGA championship is a big event and it went much longer than expected is what I am hearing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. RyzandShyn, Whole foods is more expensive than the local grocery store here but I do buy a few things there. The quality is so much better an worth the extra cost. Plus they have some things I simply can't find anywhere else like the speciality sausages and certain cheeses. I love their Sour Dough bread and also their Pico de Gallo.

    ReplyDelete
  28. And 60 minutes is a rerun in the summer most of the time. But CBS always airs it as it is high rated show. Apparently it is always high in the ratings for decades now.

  29. Matt,
That's interesting. I hate when CBS pushes BB to the wee morning hours. I think football is what has precipitated that happening.

    ReplyDelete
  30. This is why except for Amazing Race and Big Brother and the Bing Bang Theory, I do not watch CBS. It is frustrating to record and besides, I do not like a lot of their programming.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I wish we had a Whole Foods here in Central PA..but I have never even seen one and I travel around the entire state a lot.

I think there are more on the West coast.

    S.E.

  32. Lynn1,
Thanks for the tips. I agree...their produce and their meat are a much higher quality.
I'll pick a rainy summer afternoon and go poking around again after work, hoping I find those sausages.

  33. Non-Hamster Matt8/15/2010 9:00 PM

@RyzandShyn: There's two separate things going on there. When BB aired on Saturdays, Jackie would often post that it was delayed in her market for Jets pre-season football or the like. That's the local station doing that, airing non-network programming of local interest instead. They then record the network programming and air it in the wee hours of the morning, but it's listed in your TV guide that way.

Pushing the network because an earlier live event runs long is outside the local stations' control.

I hate it when the local stations replace programming here, because not one of them can record and play back HD content. This doesn't matter for TAR or BB yet, but shows in HD wind up in washed-out SD with black bars on all four sides of the picture. It's 2010 and these companies haven't yet spent the money to do it. Because of this, we don't see syndicated HD programming either. Everything syndicated from Jeopardy to Entertainment Tonight is in SD. Only one newscast is in HD, and when they replay it in the wee hours, the replay is in SD. It's really quite pathetic.

    I blame Rachel.

  40. Yay.... splish splashing away!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. S.E. -- have you Googled Whole Foods locations? I'm surprised they aren't in PA when they made it to NY and Boston. Maybe one is planned to come soon?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with my Pool Boy... when will the other Brigade members start pulling their share?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Was that a Brendon girdle?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Brendon looks like he's wearing purple socks with his tennis shoes. He's such a "cool guy" but cool guys do not wear slouch socks.....purple ones at that. lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why does brendan have a waist band on? Do they get to prepare for the comps like that? Guess he needs it the way he threw himself over the ropes at the end of last ep. I know he's driven but I thought, you don't have to dive over the ropes and land in the mud on your back like that! SO DRAMATIC!

I didn notice someone always does them with gloved on.... who is it...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sydney
    Enzo has the gloves

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow, Hayden looks hot. I know, hair and mouth, but I still like him and so far he's been my favorite player along with Brittany.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It is pretty extraordinary, what Brendan is doing.

    ReplyDelete
  49. When do they record the DR's where they talk like they don't know what's happening next? The Brendon one where he was talking about how he HAS to win HOH because they voted Rachel out even though they knew he wanted to go...blah, blah, blah. He had to have known he was the new HOH when that was recorded.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's Enzo with the gloves.

And is Kathy for real? What does she do as Sheriff if she's in a dire situation?

    ReplyDelete
  51. After what Lane said about being in mud is an everyday thing for him, I hope he bathes well and often.

Brendon's measly H.S. swim coach salary won't keep Rachel around for long in the "real" world.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Merilee- Thanks. Of course I wasn't able to read comments before I typed mine in. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. They all have waistbands on for their mics.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Is it me....or does anyone else hate Brit and Ragan more than Rachel?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm probably the only one, but I'm glad the show started late. Spent the day celebrating a friend's recent birthday, and was afraid I'd miss the whole show. Thanks PGA, and that foggy WI golf course that made the tournament run late!

    ReplyDelete
  56. The waistbands are what the rope is attached to. I'm watching them wrestle with loose rope, and thinking, "Become one with the rope!"

I'd wrap it around me as I go - over the right shoulder, across the left hip, and every six loops or so a turn around the waist. That way the rope and I go together through knot loops.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Is that the Rocky theme?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Brendon, all YOU wanted was to be happy and be in love. Rachel wanted to be a beyotch and make enemies for both of you. Maybe when you grow up and get your head out of her "parts" you'll see that.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh SHUT UP Brendan. They all know it's huge and that it sucks for them. It would be unbelievably cool if he had just not said a thing!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Brendon is remarkably immature and petty. ...And he's a coach?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Maybe Brendon and Rachel will be happy together. They're both obnoxious and delusional.

    ReplyDelete
  62. From your lips (Lane) to the BB gods' ears!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Is that an engagement ring on Brit's finger? I heard she had a boyfriend but a fiance?

    ReplyDelete
  64. "Suck butt"!! I love it! I have a new saying!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow, I thought I missed the whole show and turns out I got home just in time. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  66. Brendon had a support/girdle/band on under his clothes inside before the HoH. I think he has back problems. This was in addition to the black waistband that the rope was clipped to.

Oh yeah, Brendon is a wuss!

    ReplyDelete
  67. ORK, Yep, she's engaged. On the first show, Brit mentioned that she was "recently engaged," and I thought it was strange for her to leave town for the summer right after getting engaged.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sally said...

Only happens if he wins the big money. Otherwise, Rachel will be like: "Brendon who?"

    ReplyDelete
  69. Fred, it's just you! Rachel is the pebble in my shoe. She is rotten, disgusting and I hate looking at her ugly as$ face! Her mouth and nose are just too annoying to look at as she talks and her eyes shift way over to the right ALL THE TIME! I wish I didn't ever have to see her weird as$ face again.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Orkmommy,

Britney is engaged. Remember once when she was negotiating with (I think) Rachel she swore "on my engagement" that she was telling the truth. LOL. Worst oath ever. I mean swear on your life or your mother or your children or your immortal soul...but your engagement?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Let's see, Lane doesn't know what's in Raisin BRAN besides raisins....another effing genius in the house!

    ReplyDelete
  72. What is the brigade gonna do if they actually get to the final four? Have they talked about it at all? Are they planning on turning on each other and imploding?

    ReplyDelete
  73. The Brigade seems to think their entire role in the house is to break up couples. The went after Brenchel because they were Brenchel. They wanted Kristen out to refocus Hayden and now they want Britney out to refocus Lane. I'm surprised they aren't praying for Matt's wife to die of her imaginary illness...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anon 952,

If you never want to see Rachel again, brace yourself for Wednesday's show!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Joe - At least Lane doesn't claim to be smart. He knows he a big dumb guy! Oh, and he's totally hot! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. And why aren't they trying to get rid of Ragan? He's tight with Matt...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Atheletes and competitors yet he's in an alliance with Enzo and he's protecting kathy this week. Duh!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Brendon wants only "athletes and competitors". Isn't it the other ones who kept wuppin' his a$$?

    ReplyDelete
  79. If I was in the house and heard that message I'd immediately think of Brit and Lane! They're not a showmance and they act like they've known each other forever. Like close family friends who have grown up together!

    ReplyDelete
  80. That smug look on Matt's face. I would think HE was the sabutor if I was in the house.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I got so involved in the show when it came on, I forgot to comment. Lane was hysterical after Enzo told him Brendon wanted to put him. He was so made he said he wanted to "Go to a bar, find the hottest girl there and get in a fight with her boyfriend"

I think the suggestions by the public to the Saboteur are stupid. Poor Ragan has nothing to use to really sabotage anything.

And yes Orkmommy, they all have to go in after the fact and act like they haven't just gone through a competition. They know who has won when they are doing that. It must be difficult to keep a straight face.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Good point Jimmy.

And Ork, I always think of you when I see Lane -- from the first time you mentioned it, which I think was the first few shows, lol

    ReplyDelete
  83. not a good angle for Matt

    ReplyDelete
  84. Matt's bein' a good guy here.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ragan was exactly right--a brilliant move.

    Brendon is a huge idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Brittany is not giving a very compelling argument. She was much smarter when she was manipulating Rachel when she was HOH. Maybe it's the weeks of slop. She's losing the edge.

    ReplyDelete
  87. In my dream world, all three of them would be safe after this week, but I think Brittany's days are numbered. :(

    ReplyDelete
  88. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Brendon's "if you hurt the girl I love when she's at her lowest...." has become his verions of "if you come between me and my man..."

(But he does look good in that seafoam green color.)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Syd - They're not showing the full story. Just before this he told Brit he was nominating her. BB yelled at him for telling her and he had to talk to her again. This is the second time. She came in all rattled.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I would throw the most competive up. Britney and Matt. If one of them won POV then I would backdoor Hayden. The rest of the house has proved they can't win crap!

    Can't wait for Hawaii five-0!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Brendon's knees and shins are pretty badly chewed up.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thought the same thing Sydney when R was back in the house and she called Britt out on saying that Brendon thought Enzo was the Saboteur (BBAD). Britt couldn't hold her own. If you're going to lie, you better be ready to back it up and make it appear the other person is the one lieing. Man... do they need me in that house so I can show them how it's done!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Merilee--Matt already has the POV for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  95. That's not such a huge decision Brendon. You gave up your life for the summer to play a stupid game for a lot of money. YOU PLAY FOR YOURSELF!!!!

I think we should start using DAB for Brendon!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  96. OMG JAckie- thanks for letting me know. I am only watching the show this year and have not been able to catch much of anything else but your blog posts and then not all. What a difference! REALITY??

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jimmy-
If I was in the house, I wouldn't know that.

    ReplyDelete
  98. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Duh...Ragan's been one of the strongest competitors.

    ReplyDelete
  100. What? Well, it would be nice to have someone who deserves the $$ win.

    ReplyDelete
  101. DING DONG? Did you hear that ding dong at the end? As in ding dong the witch is back.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sorry, Merilee--misunderstood.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Brittany's only hope will be if Matt goes up and he renom's Kathy. The brigade want Brittany gone, so he'll probably put Brittany up in his place. This is all if Brendon doesn't put Brit up himself. :(

    ReplyDelete
  104. meb - go get 'em girl! You would be GREAT on this show.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Brendon's nomination speech made no sense. He wants to get rid of floaters, so he nominates Ragan instead of Kathy?

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'm going to keep saying it. I think someone from the Brigade is going home this week. There are just too many odd circumstances from Brendon having no true alliance to the DPOV to Rachel coming back to the Brigades suspicion of Matt to the possibility of there being a double eviction. Someone from the Brigade's going home soon!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Fred it's not just you, I don't care for Brit and Regan!
I expected Brit to say she had no plans on keeping her word to Brendon.
Although it's a game, It's my own belief anytime someone mentions the amount of money they'd profit vs keeping their word, that'll always be their first love.

    ReplyDelete
  108. This has to be the worse BB, I mean who casted these boring, non competing, clueless people

    ReplyDelete
  109. All of them have to wear the ace bandage thing around their waists under their clothes for the mic pack when they are doing competitions. You only saw Brendon's because he was the only one they showed changing his clothes.

Personally I think Rachel should win the Saboteur 20k as she did more damage in the 1 day back in the house than Ragan has done in the 9 days he has been the Saboteur.

Please, anybody could do 6 videos behind closed doors, electronically disguised. For that he will get 20k? So lame. American's Player had to work so much harder, only got what $2500 or so per task and each and every task put their game at risk.

Ragan is a doofus, a whiner, and constantly makes himself out to be a victim. He claims to be pratically a BB scholar, yet he states again and again that Brenchel is/was the sole alliance in the house. Because this is the season of friendships, not alliances. Clueless doofus, hope he goes home next week.

A week ago I thought Matt had the most successful gameplay (even tho I hate the wife disease angle) but as of this week I think Hayden has postioned himself as strongest in the house. Hayden has two alliances, neither of which wants to vote him out, he plays a great social game, can easily hide his emotions, can lie with a straight face, does pretty well in the comps and everyone in the house likes him. Impressive.
