'Survivor 14: Fiji' - Ep. 2 -or- "Pineapple Power Goes Against Well-Fed and Well-Rested"

No, tonight wasn't a thrill a minute, but I think I'm going to really enjoy this season. I've already picked a few favorites to cheer on - Earl and Yau-Man. And, one I thought might be tough, but may talk her way into an early boot... did so. The attitude will get you every time.

It's easy for me to say that. But I know I couldn't mesh well out there with the others. I'd be better off stranded all alone on an island.

18 are left. Who will be voted out tonight?
Survivor 14: Fiji - Dehydrated James
As the show opened, they spent a lot of time focusing on how well Moto was doing living in the lap of luxury while Ravu members were licking leaves hoping for a few drops of water. Moto is comfy with their couch, pillows, silverware, dinnerware, and an abundance of food to the point where their tummies are full. Over at Ravu, they're hacking open coconuts to gather water and spent a very long and fruitless session trying to make fire.

Boo turns out to be accident-prone. He somehow managed to jab himself in the eye with a stick or something. Then he hit his hand with an axe which continued on to strike his leg. Then, as Dreamz (Dre) was saying, "Boo will hurt himself out of the game" - the hammock in which Boo was resting broke loose and slammed him to the ground. I'm sure the bits were edited to be sequenced that way, but it was funny.

When Sylv
Survivor 14: Fiji - Sylviaia (sent off to Exile Island and doomed to join last week's losing tribe, Ravu) arrived, Yau-Man hugged her with ulterior motives. Sure enough, he sneaked a peek in her shoulder bag looking to see if she had the hidden Immunity Idol. Of course, we know her clue was that it's hidden at the camp.

Once again, she rubbed some folks wrong. I said last week that she came across as bossy to me. Perhaps not "dictating" as James/Boston/Rocky calls
it, but definitely bossy. She's treading thin ice here. She already is an outsider, best not to be a bossy outsider. Some of the tribe members talked and it was decided that if they lose the next challenge, Sylvia would be voted off.

Although Ravu had explored several places looking for fruit or anything edible, Erica found a pineapple patch (perhaps not the proper terminology, but you understand) right near the camp. I thought Earl's reaction was priceless - "I have to marry her now. She saved my life." Pumped up on pineapple power,
they thought they were invincible.

The Immunity and Reward Challenge were combined into one. The tribes had to row out to their tribe's flag, turn around, gather four crates and clasp them to their boats, then return to shore. Once there, they had to assemble a flagpole puzzle (what's with all the puzzles?) and raise their flag. Not only was Immunity up for grabs, but Reward for Moto would be fishing gear. Since Ravu still didn't have fire, their Reward would be flint. The winning tribe also would choose a member from the other tribe to send to Exile Island.
Survivor 14: Fiji - Alex

For the longest time, it looked like Ravu had their act together and would win. Although it hasn't been specifically mentioned (that I caught), they're under the belief that if they win, they would get the good camp. I believe that could be the case.

But we didn't find out tonight. They had been leading all through the water, but when it came to assembling the puzzle pole, all their teamwork fell to the wayside. Erica freaked out and started yelling while Sylvia was the target of her dagger-eyes. The team ended up focusing on Erica as much as the task at hand. Moto won it and chose to send Earl to Exile Island.

Then, back at the Ravu camp, it became a funky Bizarro world, as Anthony put it. Oh, I kind of like him, too. James/Rocky (whatever) had declared an alliance with Erica last week, but now that he was angry with her... under the bus! He and Mookie decided that Sylvia can go next, but Erica must go now. I love how those who believe they have power make these decisions. They went all around the camp seeking support for their plan.

Anthony balked a bit, but then seemed to go along with the plan. Or, at least to their faces, he did. Sylvia, who considered herself toast, loved the plan. I personally thought she got a bit too eager and should have played it a bit more laid-back, but that may just be me.

Over on Exile Island, Earl read the first clue to the hidden Immunity Idol and then his own. His clue indicated that the Idol is in a high spot. Oh... and he killed one of the poisonous sea snakes which slithered near him. He said that he doesn't like to kill animals and that snakes are misunderstood creatures. But then he mentioned that by leaving it be, that could be the one which kills him. So he killed it with a machete. "We now have come to an understanding."
Survivor 14: Fiji - Erica
In the end, the Ravu members all betrayed their buddy Erica except for Anthony and Earl because he wasn't there. Anthony and Erica voted for Sylvia to go.

Now, I foresee problems the longer Ravu stays in the deprived camp. They still don't have fire. James/Rocky seems to call the shots while I think Earl's call would be much better thought out. In the promo blurb for next week, they mention a Moto member in serious trouble. Could it be Boo hurting himself off the show? I don't know.

Uh not quite the way I saw it Jackie. Had Ravu won, their reward would have been the fishing gear and flint to start a fire.

I have a suspicion that no matter what happens next week Ravu will end up with flint, although they may not actually need it if the previews are accurate

I'm not crazy about having everyone built a luxury camp and then having a team who won a challenge "own" it. They have good food, water, shelter and are at a resort competiting with a team with no water, fire, etc. Yes, Ravu needs to get its act together and work harder it is pretty hard when you are dehydrated..as they get weaker and weaker they will never win anything so that makes the show a bit boring because you know whose going to triumph. Also while Sylvia may be a bit bossy, she designed the luxury camp...and then she doesn't even get to live in it. Somehow this season is not off the to the best start. In their struggle to add something new I think they took a wrong turn.

I thought the sequence with Boo was hysterical. I actually laughed out loud. He really is a doofus (sp)and to think he was my original pick to win. Hmmmm... what does that make me.

Erica got on my nerves too, so I'm glad she's out. I didn't see anything that Sylvia did that was too blatant...making suggestions and being bossy are two different things.

I just think the camp had bonded and she just came in from Exile Island as an outsider. Too bad. She'd probably be a motivator so they could get some things done around camp. I hope she just starts looking for the Idol and let them get over it during this week. At least, if she found it, she could save herself (if they end up at Tribal Council again this week).

What's with all the puzzles, you ask? My guess is to throw a monkey wrench into "the physically strong team always wins the early rounds." Puzzles give the less physically coordinated team a chance to win with brain power.

It's a totally unfair competition with one team in the lap of luxury and the other starving. Also sending one person to Exile the first week is a sure fire way to have them eliminated and doesn't give the person a change to integrate with the tribes. Does Ravu not remember it was Sylvia that chose each of them for the team? Give her a break...who wants to spend the first night alone with deadly snakes...only to return and in one day be treated like an outcast.

Coconuts almost gone no fire to purify water they in BIG trouble!!!!

I do not like reward and immunity lumped together...

Seems to be modeled after Apprentice...tent camp vs luxury...where is the orginality??? How long can they expect that tribe to do without water???? Food is one thing but water.....seems dangerous to me

Oh,Delee, you took the words right out of my mouth. I hate the Survivors where the people are starving! They can't let them go much longer with no water. And I,too, think this makes the competitions lopsided and, therefore,BORING!

We are so caught up in RAVU,because they are the only ones making any drama. The others are just lying around stuffing themselves and having a high ole time. Why do these always start off so badly?

RAVU was wrong for all of them to pile around and try to ALL put that pole together. They should have designated 3 or 4 to put it together. Sure,ERICA was freaking out,but she didn't want to lose again.I can't believe the audacity of those men on RAVU who think they rule the roost, but then, everybody goes along with them(well almost everyone).

ER was sooo good,it just keeps getting better and better. I LOVE John Stamos on there!!

Burnett is bleeding over to Trump Land. If you watch this and Apprentice, the similarities with the "winning" camp are obvious. I usually don't feel that way about these shows. although, Apprentice is so bad this season.

I didn't watch the first episode last week, but I do like the idea of having the immunity idol at camp. Syvia will be real inconspicuous looking for that thing right under everyone's nose. So far, I am liking this season.

have you thought about the production team putting the pineapples in that location. They looked all over the place for food and then all of a sudden Erica finds pineapple. I am a little suspicous on that one.

I was surprised that a tribe got to keep the luxury camp. When I watched them building it, I figured they'd find out they'd built it for the production crew....

I wonder about the water thing...people can only go so long without water and then they die. Maybe it hasn't been as long as we think because of editing. At any rate the lopsided comps are truly boring; and the Survivors where one team totally dominated were always boring. You need to have some real competition.

This U.S. Forestry Service survival training guide [MS Word .doc file] suggests 3 days without water is a serious threat to survival.

............and this was day 6 of the comps. I don't think it makes for good TV when there are starving people. I hated that about Guatamala, and these people seem to develop intestinal problem that last well after the shows. I just don't know how,in good concience,Burnett can make them go without water that long, and then expect them to compete in strenous comps.Don't like it,no,I don't!

As you're growing up as a teenager, there are a number of things that you look forward to; getting your drivers

license, graduating from high school, going to your senior prom, having your first date and having your first beer.

The problem with this last one is that the drinking age and the thing you want make it something that you just can't

have yet. And still, you want it and will go to any lengths to get it.

Underage beer drinking is certainly no secret and to try to sweep it under the carpet isn't going to make it go

away. But the most odd thing about underage drinking when it comes to beer is that even after kids sneak their first

beer, they still want to have another one. If you're wondering why that sounds so strange then you need to think

back to when YOU had your first beer. It was pretty nasty tasting. Let's be honest, beer is bitter and is an

acquired taste. Very few people, if any at all, enjoyed their first beer. Many even get sick after it because of the

taste or the fact that they're not used to the alcohol yet.

Huh?

Huh and double huh??? Did you wander into the wrong room by any chance???? I swear I am WAY over the legal age to drink, and I swear I never drank until I was an adult!! Again...I say HUH!!!

I like root beer, but I have no clue what that comment is all about.

Seems like the guy or gal had a few beers too many...this is Survivor dude! We're worried about water here.
