OFF TOPIC: Roofus the Cat

Despite heavy winds, Roofus returned this morning. I took this quick series of shots as the wind gusted near 50 MPH. He's sheltered from the wind there, I wasn't. You can click on the images to see them larger.

Yay, Roofus, looking like he's all curled up keeping warm and perhaps waiting for the wind to die down a bit before something tasty looking flies by. It's been a cold winter. God bless 'em!

Good grief Jackie -- I guess I didn't really realize he is so far away when you shoot him. You always show us zoom shots... or I just realized you do once I saw just how tiny he looks sitting in the middle picture. How you ever saw him to begin with is beyond me. Excellent powers of photo-stomping vision girl!

Is the building he lives in/on/near abandoned? In this series, it looks like there are shades on the windows and I wondered if maybe he belongs to someone in there who lets him out on the fire escape or the roof skirt there. He sure looks nice and healthy.

I know we've all adopted him in our minds but the fact that he might belong to someone does not interfere with that at all (speaking for myself at least)

Thanks Jackie for giving us an update on Roofus! He/she looks healthy so wherever Roofus was hiding - Roofus was eating.

Sydney - He's across the street from the train station. It's a two lane street with those odd diagonal parking spots, so it's equivalent to six lanes or more wide.

All of the buildings he roams on the roofs are occupied except the condemned building with its back roof and wall crumbling down from the top. Where he sleeps on thebay window roof, it's an apartment building with a hair salon and some sort of "Rapido Expresso" mailing store on the first floor. The tenants in the building change with the season (it was a grand building probably around the turn of the century) and the windows are rarely open -- never in winter. I've seen the feral cats on the roof of the garage in back of the condemned building. They can get to the fire escapes there, then through the open windows and up the broken edge of the building.

Loved seeing Roofus again. It's a good thing you or your camera didn't blow away. ;) Roofus is one survivor all right. I wondering if Sydney might be right about Roofus having an owner close by if not in that building. What do you think?

Sydney...

OMG! I just realized I've been spelling your name wrong (Sidney) all this time. Feel free to bonk me on the head. Sorry. :(

Just so you know, I might be somewhat absent this week. I'll be reading whenever I can but may not comment frequently. Getting ready for our Easter bash here.

Sure hope you and Josie are a bit better today.

Glad to see our blog buddy safe and sound. The pics of Roofus always brings a huge smile to my face. She has no idea how many people peek in on her and think of her. I've decided Roofus is a she (since my kitty is a she). :) Thanks once again Jackie!

So happy to see Roofus once again. Thanks Jackie. We worry about him when he's missing for so long.

nana in the nw... any information on Josie?

Wonderful news! That is one smart, lucky kitty.

I agree with you, Sydney. I think we have all adopted him.... as you say -- in our minds.

It would be wonderful if he had a real home, though.

Jackie-Thanks so much for the update on Roofus. It is great knowing he made it through another winter.

If only he knew how popular he was with us. We will have to refer to any of the news on him in the "Roofus Report".

I am glad to see Roofus is okay. I have four cats and three out of my four were adopted as strays. One strayed as a 6 week old or so into a friend's yard. She is now 14-years old. One strayed into my yard about three years ago. It is clear that he was either left behind (he had already been neutered when he came into my life)or ran off. My fourth cat strayed into my yard when she was about four months old. She was semi-feral. I had to work for her trust. She is now two-years old. They now get everything they want: a warm house, food, plenty of toys, a cat tree and lots and lots of love. I just hope Roofus always has a warm place to go on those cold nights and food when he needs it.

Dammit, Jackie. I love you, but now you've gotten me all hooked on the plight, lifes & perils of lil Roofus. I'm animal-psycho enough without another to fret over. hehehe... please just don't report any bad news of lil Roofus, OK?

P.S. If you do discover that lil Roofus doesn't have adequate food/water, please let me know, & I will PayPal you $$ for him.

Roofus, you make us smile! Thanks,Jackie for showing us pix of him. It's hard to know that an animal doesn't have somebody to pet and love and care for them in this bad weather. He does seem to be a survivor.

Okay, guys,I've got news.Doctor says I have a growth on my thyroid. He tells me that they are almost always benign, but if not,it is easily treatable.I need a needle biopsy and they made me an appointment with another specialist, and the first available appointment is .......June 23rd!! So I'm not going anywhere,it's not urgent or dire or life threatening. The worst case scenario would be having to have my thyroid removed and people live without them just fine.Thank you all so much for the good wishes and prayers. I have to say I feel like a 500 pound monkey just jumped off my back!

Nana, hope tonight is a better night for you both and it gets easier every day hence.

can someone call the aspca to rescue this poor kitty?

rufusx holds my interest more than this season's BB.

Sharon, congratulations! So happy to hear your great news! How very relieved you must be. Nothing like the power of prayer.
