The Amazing Race - Season Finale Show Post

jackie's tv blog, the amazing race

Yes, the show is starting only about two minutes late here in the NYC area. I'll be putting the major updates here and my full show review will be posted over on TV Squad later tonight. But the real fun is in the comments and you're all invited to join in! Who will win the million? Nick and Starr? Dandrew? Tina and Ken? We'll know soon!

In Portland, OR -- Nick and Starr in the lead, Tina scared of heights and slowing herself and Ken down, Dandrew stuck in a bad cab.

UPDATE: Nick and Starr leading, Tina snarling, Dandrew dragging.

UPDATE: Dandrew SO out of the running. Tina and Ken and Nick and Starr tied at this point, both teams looking for a taxi to the finish line.

NICK AND STARR HAVE WON THE AMAZING RACE!

Do not care who wins since my team is gone...

Just call me "Anybody But Dandrew"...

joy n said...

Totally rooting for Nick and Starr. With six first place pit stops, they've shown how well they can play in this race.

What a disappointment it would be to see the stumblebums win now.

I really don't want to see Tina win either.

Joy and Clementine, I am with you.

Delee said...

Yuck Ken talked to her like she was a puppy...you are a good girl and patted her head!

Donna in Alabama said...

Nana and I have the stumblebums but.... Can Ken win without Tina winning? ha ha I wish!

Anonymous said...

The Bumblebutts luck is running the same, isn't it?

Let's see how Tina does on the climbing and swinging.

Petals said...

okay. I stand alone, quitely rooting for an upset by the underdogs. hehe

Unknown said...

I hate heights! There's no way I could do that.

I hope the Frats choose the log roll. I just want to see someone do it.

Donna in Alabama said...

Petals, I think it would be funny if they did win! I haven't care much for either of the other two teams left. I wanted mom and son to win but they didn't...

joy n said...

What a sweet wifey Tina is. I think if she won the money, she'd dump ol' Ken.

Petals said...

uhoh..I don't think Dandrew will fare very well in this task. They can't even walk on land, let alone logroll!! (it'll be funny to watch, tho)

Delee said...

I think Tina would use the money for more botox or p surgery!

Petals said...

grrrr - foreign cab drivers...GRRRR

Delee said...

I guess Dandrew did ok on the detour or course we did not get to see the whole thing...grrrr

joy n said...

It would kill me if Tina and Ken won this because of the luck of the cab drivers.

Delee said...

Petals they are in the USA....

Petals, I confess that if Nick and Starr don't win, I wouldn't mind the Bumblebutts winning. I just can't "get into the groove" with a Ken and Tina win. For one thing, he is a former pro football player and they should have plenty of money. For another, I just don't like them. I liked Ken until he becomes so condescending. He is also a show off.

Petals said...

yah, but the cab driver isn't FROM THE USA!!!!!!

Unknown said...

Hmmm... I think I would be scared to death of walking across the log in the trees, but the zipline looks like fun... maybe because it's over water?

Delee said...

I never remember these things that they have to do by legs

Delee said...

Picky Picky Petals...LOL

Unknown said...

CONCENTRATION!!

No way the frats will get through that one quickly.

Petals said...

Becky, I keep forgetting that Ken was a pro athlete. I guess they are just doing the race for the "adventure" and to "see if they can make it as a couple", and not for the money.

Petals said...

Zipline would be fun, yeah.

Unknown said...

Wow, this is difficult.

joy n said...

Nick and Starr are GOOD!

Unknown said...

Nick and Starr are good because they don't waste all their breath arguing!

Petals said...

Nick & Starr are like the Wondertwins from the 70s cartoon, remember them? And they were brunette, too!

joy n said...

Seems like Tina is the one treating Kenny like a child now.

Delee said...

Dandrew is out of it, darn Dallas leaving his stuff in the cab...

Unknown said...

Wondertwin powers: Activate!

Shape of.. One Million Dollars! :)

Too funny, Petals!

Delee said...

Survivor finale SUNDAY

joy n said...

Now that would have been a great race...Dallas and Toni vs Nick and Starr!

Petals said...

I gotta hand it to Dandrew - if I were in that guy's cab, I'd have jumped out in moving traffic & flagged down another driver - anyone - to get me where I needed to go.

Unknown said...

They should call PDX Granny! Bet she knows where to find the dinosaur :)

joy n said...

Tina keeps dictating. And she's wrong a lot.

Petals said...

I think my show is a few minutes behind you guys'.

joy n said...

How unfair is that? That lady told N and S to look it up in a phonebook and then gives T and K shortcut directions!

Anonymous said...

Darn woman! Why didn't she just eat her food and keep her mouth shut!

TAXI!!! Nick and Starr need a taxi.

Delee said...

I was thinking of PDXGranny and bet she will recognize a lot of those places!

Anonymous said...

Tina is soooooo annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!

Delee said...

That was very strange indeed, JoyN

joy n said...

Fifteen minutes left! Almost there!

Laurie said...

As predicted, I am not waiting until the show airs here to see who wins. I would like to see the brother/sister combo win over the other two choices. They really have played very well and as a team most of the time. Next would be the bumbling frat boys just because I don't think they can help being who they are. Last would be the couple trying to save their marriage. They get on my last nerve and deserve each other. How they lasted this long is beyond me ... in the race and as a married couple.

I can't wait to see what they show of Portland. Maybe I'll recognize something, too!

Unknown said...

Joyn, was that the same lady?

Ken and Tina spew an endless stream of negativity. They really do belong together.

Go Nick and Starr!!

And I want my name to be Starr, so people can call me "Rock Star" like Nick does! :)

joy n said...

YES! Same lady!

Anonymous said...

ACK! ANYONE who brings God into a game/race, doesn't deserve squat!

Unknown said...

I guess they let Dandrew run it to the end, because the previews showed the bribing the taxi driver.

Yea, Nick and Starr!!!!

Well deserved!

joy n said...

That lady told Tina and Ken the others had gone the long way.

Petals said...

wow - did you notice the price of gas? $4.11 !!!

joy n said...

HIP-HIP-HOORAY! Nick and Starr won the million. And they deserved it!

Anonymous said...

Yeah!!!!! They won! Let's see how Tina takes the loss.

Petals said...

yeah, you guys are way ahead of me. I can watch Rock of Love Charm School now, thanks.

joy n said...

Tina will never appreciate that man.

Anonymous said...

omg, here's comes God into the race again this year.

i DO NOT want tina winning. she will win, divorce the dude and then get him for all the money.

where are the boys?

joy n said...

At least Dandrew didn't get lost!

Anonymous said...

Wonder if the Bumblebutts even did the rest of the tasks or if they just radioed to bring them in.

joy n said...

Now on to DEXTER!

Unknown said...

Aww, the finale always makes me cry! I sincerely wish Ken and Tina the best with their marriage. Hopefully, they will see some behavior that they'd like to change, when they watch this.

Guess Toni and Dallas didn't make it out of Russia in time to get to the finish line.

Anyone remember, how old are Nick and Starr? What a wonderful life experience at that age. Difficult to appreciate your siblings when you're young, but I think that really helped them connect.

Anonymous said...

i didn't see dallas and toni in the crowd

Anonymous said...

Toni and Dallas had to wait in Russia until he got his passport back. I was sorry they missed the finale.

Tina never stops talking, even her helmet tried to make a quick get away from her voice.

meb said...

WAHOO!!! We won! I mean Nick and Starr won! And well they should have! They ran an Amazing Race! Is that redundant! I just finished watching it without commercials, so I didn't start until it was half way through!

My heart was in my throat when they couldn't get the cab. And that woman heard the guy tell Nick and Starr where the Voodoo Donut shop was and that's how she knew to tell Tina and Ken. Who the heck did she think she was telling them to go the shorter way. Didn't seem to work tho did it.

joy n said...

Off topic: Miguel Prado is dead.

Dexter did what he had to do.

I'm going to miss you, Jimmy.

joy n said...

A lot of people would have been really p'o'd at that woman if Tina and Ken had won.

meb said...

I thought that just maybe this was a dream, since the episode was called "I Had A Dream". But the previews show Miguel dead, so either he really is, or they're going to make us think he is until next season. Then Dexter will wake up. I mean, since when did Dex choke his victim? He was all ready for the blood with the plastic placed... I don't know... has anyone read anywhere where this was Smits last night on the show??? Or will he come back as a ghost?

Oh crap... I could come up with more and more and still know nothing!

joy n said...

Meb, I believe Miguel's goose is cooked. On Showtime.com there is a clip for next week of Dexter talking to Maria about Miguel's death and the fact that Miamu wants to name an Interstate after him. The one she travels on everyday and she's not happy, but Dexter tells her she has to live with it as she has no legal proof of Miguel killing her friend.

I was surprised by Dexter's choice of weapon, too.

joy n said...

That's Miami, not Miamu.

Before the season started, I read that Jimmy had done 12 of the 14 episodes that were filmed. This was episode 12, but the finale next week is only no. 13, so who knows.

My wv is twoot. Why does strike me as funny?

Laurie said...

The whole area of the final part of the show is exactly the area where I stayed when I was in Portland. In fact, the food carts are where I bought my lunch the fateful day I took my fall. Never did get to eat that lunch, by the way!

This show is much easier to watch when you know who wins!

Unknown said...

Here's Ken explaining why he brought out the rings at the end...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y-Zr6RuNBo

What a strange relationship they have.

PDX Granny said...

I'm just now watching, and haven't read any comments. I don't want to know anything ahead of time!!

I already don't the frat boys to win 'cause they can't pronounce Oregon. It's like Oregun NOT Oregone!!!

I was just at Bridge of the Gods a few weeks ago, and stood under it taking pictures!! I'll have to put them up on my blog.

I recorded the program, so I'm still watching, but my daughter called and said one of the clues was in my building!! A green dino. I took my grandson to see it when it was there!!

OK- back to the show . . . .

Jennasmom said...

Oh, well, Karen. We ALMOST made it! Yeah, while the rest of you were dissing Tina & Ken, Karen & I were rooting them on! Congrats to Starr & Nick. A good race. Congrats to MEB & Lynn1.

I wish Ken & Tina all the best in their marriage. And just because he was a former pro football player, doesn't mean they have money. Only the big names make the bucks. Teams are loaded with lots of players who never make it big. Many are only in the NFL a short time - really short time. Went to school with a couple of guys who went to the NFL. One lasted one season, the other a couple of seasons. Neither made much money at it. Both are back home working everyday jobs. One coaches jr. high. My husband is a football freak & he's never heard of Ken.

Survivor Finale on Sunday! Look out! Orkmommy & I are going to be pulling for Bob to win it all! (Fat chance....)

PDX Granny said...

I'm so over listening to Tina belittling Ken!

Nick and Star are working so well together, and being so encouraging to each other while going thru all the boxes and identifying the legs of the race. I really, really want them to win now!

VOODOO DONUTS!!! We get them for work as a treat! : )

PDX Granny said...

Yea!!! Nick & Star won!!

Laurie, it looks like I was wrong. The pit stop wasn't by your hotel. But wasn't the Russian cart close to where you went to lunch one day?

The pit stop was a the Pittock Mansion. It's not far from where we went to see the National Rose Test Gardens. It has the same view overlooking Portland and Mt. Hood.

Anonymous said...

i know why toni and dallas weren't there from following along with you guys...but i think it would've been nice to clue in the rest of the world and given some sort of footnote at the end of the show...
and do you suppose that lady felt important being able to tell ken and tina where to go since she was lacking in the first place? lol

joyzjenn

PDX Granny said...

Clementine - too funny! I just read your comment about me knowing where the green dino was. : )

It's amazing that I never heard a thing about them being in my building! Even the people working at Seattle's Best (the coffee shop by the escalators where they asked for directions to the food carts) didn't spill the beans. Pun intended!! LOL

PDX Granny said...

Petals, the gas isn't $4.11 anymore. I just paid $1.69. I think this was filmed last April or May, when gas prices were still going up.

Brent McKee said...

Ken in the NFL: Ken was the 19th pick in the first round of the 1978 draft. He played his college ball with the Washington State Cougars and didn't make it to a Bowl game in his college career. He played safety and spent four years with the St. Louis Cardinals (bunch of sad sacks) and two years with San Diego. His two years at San Diego weren't winners either.

I came here this early am to see what had gone on since I was hear last, and really have enjoyed hearing your comments PDXGranny as you watch the show! And could you tell us why it is there...does it go with one of the businesses?

I am so happy for Nick and Starr! meb and I were cheering for them from day one!
I don't want to be a poor loser but if Ken and Tina would have won I think I would have barfed. I don't care for Tina at all and I question Ken's mental stability wanted to be in a relationship with a person as bitchy and whiney as Tina.
Team Dandrew were the comic relief this season. They gave me lots of laughs. I applaud them for never giving up and for the most part not fighting or getting bent out of shape with each other.
I am sorry that Toni and Dallas weren't in this last leg of the race. They were easy to like and cheer for.
I have never been to Portland but it certainly looked liked a cool place.
I did not like how the woman who gave Tina and Ken help but didn't help starr and Nick. If I knew her personally I would give her a hard time about it! LOL
Jackie, thank you for giving us a forum to rant and rave about our favorite shows and contestants. I love your take on the shows we all watch both here and on TV Squad. You rock!

Well, They did run a great race, so I guess they deserved to win. I am still getting over that the hippies got booted first... lol, I would have liked to have seen them a little more (or maybe not, as they were so dottering it prolly would have gotten annoying quick.

Whatever Ken sees in Tina, good luck to them. Maybe he had a bossy mother?

Did you notice they didn;t show a spec of the Frat boys after the first 15 minutes? But the race between T/K, S/N was suspenseful. They really earned that million, both were trying their hardest.

Sorry I have been a bit MIA lately. There is a lot going on with my family here and also, my laptop battery is shot (My one year old costly laptop) so it's a big rpoduction if I want to live blog. I'll get it together in January....

Sydney said...

JOYN -- I felt your pain for you last night. Somehow I thought they wouldn't do it because JImmy is too big an actor and I figured it'd be good for the show to keep him on for another season, but I guess now his brother is going to be a pain in Dexter's arse instead. Ultimatley, guess he'll kill all the Prado brothers in the end.

Dex strangled him with the wire to make it look like that slicer guy did it.... but did not slice him, so I'm a little confused....

Sydney said...

Just reading comments now -- PDX -- I was thinking of you as we saw Portland. I have been once, years ago, have 2 friends living there -- it sure had some gorgeous nature.

joyzjen -- LOL about that woman being all into telling K/T about the donut shop when she had no idea for Nick and Starr. She was in her living room last night in front of the TV with all her friends, waiting for the big moment! :-)

I only saw gas at $3.98 on one sign. I like my cabdrivers to be foreign. I have far better conversations with them.

Am I the only one or did anyone get just a little crawly at all the I love you's and kisses between Nick and Star? I'm glad they are best buds and so close, but I've never seen sibs that huggy/kissy before.

Petals said...

SYDNEY ~ Yes! The Wondertwins are FAR TOO AFFECTIONATE! ewwwww. That is why they've skeeved me from day one.
And I also thought the same thing about Ken/Tina. It rang in my head last night: He LIKES being bossed. He must be a Pisces or Virgo, ha.

Petals said...

or Aquarius. Ken could be an Aquarius.

Sydney said...

I knew you would be with me on that one Petals....

ANd why do you guess Ken's Aquarian?

meb said...

Guys I have to disagree with you! I think the affection Nick and Starr show each other is something we could all aspire to. What's wrong with hugs and kisses. Most parents don't do it enough with their kids and they turn out to be non-affectionate, just like their parents.

The fact these two were clean, wholesome, kids says a lot and their love for each other does too.

Now, kisses to all of you! Kissy, Kissy, Kissy!

Well it was an awesome TAR, and I even got my husband to watch the last three episodes with me...thanks to Jackie and everyone here for making it so much fun.
When I lived in Portland (back in 1967) I never got to the downtown part at all, nice to see it.
I was thinking that they had to pick up Dandrew in a heliocopter cause they could never finish that last task...think?
Also I agree, some kind of mention of Toni and Dallas would have been nice...I so wanted them to win.
Hey LAURIE, tell Tim that zip line across the water is our next stop ok?

Anonymous said...

Way to go Nick & Starr! I have to admit I was a big blob of slobbery crying at the end! Between the win and Ken & Tina with the rings my poor kid couldn't figure out why I was crying so hard. She was pulling for Nick & Starr too so there were a lot of high fives and arm pumping YES's!

Thanks to everyone who's volunteered to send postcards to my daughter's class. If you still want to get in on the action, read this.

My WV is 'paticult'. Is that when people follow someone named Patty blindly?

joy n said...

Petals, I'm a Pisces, and I don't like to be bossed at all. Ask my hubby. LOL!

Dan and Andrew must have been quite a bit behind the others last night. The sun was bright and the shadows short for N&S and T&K. The sun was almost setting and VERY long shadows were showing when The frat boys made it to the finish line.

Dallas and Toni should definitely have had at least a shout-out last night.

Syd, I will just wait until another role comes up for Jimmy. At least I taped this whole season so I can watch it again.

Hey, my wv is jackeyin!

THIS IS A SPOILER FOR LOST, so if you don't want to know... read no further!!!

Just read somewhere that in the filming of some new "stuff" from Lost, people have seen Jin in the mix. Now whether this is a flashback or a newbie and he's alive is still in question.

Also that Sawyer and Hurley (and somebody else) are wearing the DARHMA jumpsuit which happens in the 10th episode. What's with that I wonder.

OK... that was it.

Ken was born May 06,1956 so that makes him a Taurus. Here are some things I found about a Taurus:

Taureans are sometimes regarded as snobby, withdrawn, boring, or even sulky.
Some claim that trying to get your point across to a Taurean, should they not want to hear you, is rather similar to talking to the trees – they simply won't budge.

LOL my vw is: oxical Taurus=bull
how strange!

Wasn't it the Standard Building? And wasn't the logo for Standard Oil a diosaur? Just guessing.

I enjoyed this season of AR. It was good to see two family couples who have mutual respect toward each other (Nick/Starr & Toni/Dallas). Even the frat boys seem to get along most of the time. I guess Ken/Tina were the token bickers this year.

Becky,
I know Sinclair Oil used to use the green dinosaur. Used to have one in my front yard (the dinosaur, not the oil.... This IS Texas, but our oilwell isn't working right now. Haha!) Bought our house from a man who used to work for Sinclair & he left the dinosaur with us for awhile until he could move it. Was quite the conversation piece! All the kids loved it!

**

I have to agree 100% on that, Delee, I am a Taurus. As was Hitler...although Carol Burnett was, too. so quite a mix there. We are proudly stubborn and sure we are right in all ways. We like to nest. Ken might be stubborn enough to think he was failing (instead of Tina) if he didn't make the marriage work. I think I heard her say it was all his fault and he needed to change to make it work. I wonder what it was like for those two to sit together and watch the show. Did Tina's voice bother Tina as much as it did me?

Now we need to find out Tina's sign and see if they are compatible. I am betting she has some competition for Ken since the show aired.

One of my sons and my older brother is Taureans. They both fit but they are total different too.

I thought Nick and Starr were a little TOO huggy and kissy for siblings. I would like my brothers to at least give me a hug each time we see each other!

I kept watching the credits thinking they would mention why Toni and Dallas were missing...but nada!

I think they prolly told Dandrew to just make the run to the finish line instead of doing all the last task!

Do any of you remember the plastic dinosaurs they gave away when you got gas at Sinclair? The one we grew up knowing as a Brontasauras but now is something else.

I read online that Toni & Dallas could not make it back in time for the finale due to his passport getting lost in Russia...

Good finale, good season. Not great for me as I did not really care about the last three teams, but, overall, good entertainment. :)

sizzie & Becky - The green dino was for a special dinosaur exhibit that was going on at the zoo at the time. It's long gone now, but was kinda cool while it was there.

Standard Insurance is a sponsor of the zoo, which would explain why we had it in our building.

I was really surprised that nobody even mentioned it today at work. I asked a couple of people if they watch the show, but nobody that I asked did. I should have gone down to the coffee shop and checked with them, but it's on the wrong side of payday so I just had my tea.

Terry, you lived in Portland back in '67? What part of town? I think I can say with some conviction that it doesn't look the same today, no matter where you were!!
