Tuesday's Crime TV Night for Me

Nah, this isn't a television image. It's a sign at the NJ Transit Train Station near my workplace. Perhaps it's decorated for the holidays? I just thought it was fitting for an entry about crime TV.

I haven't been watching The Mentalist, but I know that's on tonight. What I will be watching in the 9 PM hour is the new The First 48 on A&E. You have to remember, I'm the one whose guilty pleasure (other than reality television) has been Cops since its inception. The First 48 goes so much further with the investigation of actual homicides. I'm so there. But if I were ever a suspect, I'd surely lawyer up! Not that I will ever be a murder suspect, mind you. I hold the limit to killing insects. And, even then, only when they need to die. You know ... like mosquitoes on my arm, moths in my apartment, and houseflies. Sometimes they just need killing.

Then, at 10 PM, I have a minor dilemma. I want to watch Leverage on TNT, but I'll be recording Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force on A&E. I went from nothing in that time slot I want to watch to two shows this week.

How about you? What are you watching (or did you watch) tonight?

You forgot "roaches", Jackie. One pest I detest after living in AL.

House/Dirty Jobs/Real Housewives of Orange County...my Tues viewing.

Delee said...

oops taping Leverage as I did Sunday and have not watched it yet.

Jackie S. said...

I don't have roaches. But, yes. They need dying!

Delee said...

I was just adding something to your list besides a mosquito-moth-etc that needs snuffed out. LOL

ewww What an interesting topic - roaches!! LOL

Well, as promised, I finally got some pictures I took of Bridge of the Gods posted on my blog. Take a peek when you get a chance.

Hi Jackie -

I watched my credit card balance go up as I went out and shopped the sales. lol Seems there was nothing on tonight.

And I like your take on the bug situation. I am taking these classes on world religions and it gets you to thinking about the value of life -- ALL life, and I thought oh no.... Am I going to be unable to swat a mosquito? It's a dilemma I've mulled over here and there, but it was very satisfying to read your post and comment to Delee. Hey, in the animal kingdom they kill each other... (why do I feel this is getting into dangerous waters?) Please, I mean no offense to anyone!

I have the good luck to have and Eastern and Pacific time zone feeds on my cable, so I watch both "The Mentalist" and "Fringe." "The Mentalist" is an enjoyable show in the mold of "Numb3rs" and "Eleventh Hour." Still, I'm really enjoying "Fringe" largely because of the performance of John Noble as Walter Bishop, the slightly insane "mad scientist" on the good guys side. It's a great and well nuanced performance.

I am enjoying The Mentalist but I like Eleventh Hour even more.
Although I have never dealt with homocide victims being a Public Health worker many many years ago I love to see the Epidemiology techniques used to solve some of the crimes on Eleventh Hour.

lynn1...like Mentalist first, then Eleventh Hour... Last night's Mentalist was a repeat. I had it recorded, ready to watch...ticked me off. I love Jane... he's gorgeous. (That sounds funny... Jane..he's)...

Jackie... Leverage repeats at 11 or 11:30 if you can tape it for later. Don't know if they'll do it all the time, but right now they are. Loved the first episode... it'll definitely be one I watch.

Morning all... gotta go for now...

dla - you went against Ed's wish to send his wife to the finals? I didn't like his game plan, so I agree with your vote. Michelle was amaaazing last night. Have you noticed she has the same mannerisms as Jillian when she talks? I think she always had that tho and it's not something she just picked up. I just don't like how they now make Vickey all sweet and nice now. ugh.

Jackie - Since you're a big COPS fan, have you seen the promos for the new show based on the Homeland Security folks? I can't remember what channel or when it starts, but I thought of you when I saw the first commercial...

Tuesday is my "NCIS" night. I love that show! The cast is excellent and the characters have great chemistry. It's the only show I tape if I'm not around to watch.

When I read certain post on here that occasionally pop up.. "MULTIPLY PERSONALITIES DISORDER" comes to mind.

I voted for Ed to come back 5 times. Didn't like Heba's game play in the begining. Too much like Vickies.

Amy P is now a size 4 and Phil has reached his goal weight. They both voted for Heba to be in the finals because they thought they could beat Ed easier for the 100,000.

Was very surprised to hear on last nights show that Season One's winner, Ryan, has gained all is weight back.

RealityTVWorld says: that Bachelor Jason is engaged. No details, of course.

Also: Trista and Ryan have announced their expected baby is a girl.

And it says that Vicky of Housewives OC is considering not returning next season. After her husband received ribbing at work for her dissing him about the "depleted love tank", she apologized to him and said they need to get past this. He should tell her it's a little late for that. What a selfish shrew she is.

Also watched Bonnie Hunt Show this AM. Phil, Nick and Starr of TAR were on. Funny piece at the end of their segment where Phil gave Bonnie the mat he's used at pit stops and offered to "philiminate" her on it and said it would be "quick".

On the next segment with Neil Sedaka, Bonnie sang along with him at the piano. She sings very well.

Missed this until today. I will watch my favorite "crime show" tonight. I love Criminal Minds. I miss Mandy Pankin but the rest of the cast is good too.

I did watch Leverage Sunday night and taped last night's show. I see what you meant by the subtle humor.

Looking forward to Survivor tonight.

Roaches -- or the death of them -- is something we fight constantly on the coast. Hate them, hate them, hate them.

I like this show too. I did watch Biggest Loser last night instead. I had a phone call and missed the last minutes.... right after they said that America would decide. Who are the ones who made it, do they know yet?

And who are the trolls who are posting? One sounds like directions for a drug drop!

Karen, I am still giggling about using Vicky + sweet ane nice in the same sentence! lol

Yes, I went against Ed's game plan... Ridiculous. His mentality is one of the only reasons that I do not like when family is involved on this show. And what about Heba stating that she has had to work harder than anyone on the ranch?!? I laughed out loud at that one, and had a few choice words for the TV. (and for Heba!)

I would love to see Michelle take the finals, and have Amy or Phil take the prize for the at home winner....

Actually, I will be happy as long as Vicky, Brady, Heba and Ed do not win. I just have not cared for the way they played the game at all.

JoyN, I would be happy to see Vicky leave OC. Some of the things that she has said on air this season have been so inappropriate, as well as disrespectful to her family. (Especially Don!) I was sad to see Laurie go last night, but not surprised. I also read online that Gretchen's Jeff passed away in September from his leukemia. That made me sad, as he seemed like a very talented and nice man.

As for The Bachelor, I sure hope Jason found a nice girl!!

I just started watching Criminal Minds and The Unit this season. I didn't think I would like either, then finally gave them a chance and they are two of my favorites now. I have a question for those of you who have watched those shows from the beginning. They have changed a little, do you think they are as good as the first shows or are the newer episodes better? I only saw one CM with Mandy P., but have always liked him.

meb said...

Sizzie... I watch both CM and the Unit and I think they get better each year. The unit really involved the women this year and that even makes it better.

Criminal Minds is simply the BEST! No matter who is in it Potamkin or Montagna (sp). I don't particularly like either one of them, but they don't disrupt the show by being there. I love the kid (name?) as the genius, and I hope he has found a girlfriend which is what it looked like from last episode.

I don't watch the Unit, but I have watched Criminal Minds from the beginning. I think the quality of the show has remained high. Mandy P. was perfect in the show. Of course he was perfect in Princess Bride (one of our favorite movies) too. The man has an incredible singing voice. I didn't realize until after the movie that he was a well known actor on Broadway.

I agree with everyone's assessment of Vicky. Very smug and thinks too highly of herself. A million $ yacht, get real. I feel for Don, the vacation to Mexico and Chicago and he was not invited whether he would go or not, he should have been asked.

Sorry to hear that Jeff passed away, but he had not been looking to good.

Now for Jason, did he get engaged on the Bachelor or otherwise? There was a petition circulating to get Jesse as the next B. Not sure I like the use a cast-off for the next in line for the show. Bring on new people.

Criminal Minds and Unit have always been high quality. For CM, I would not want to be in a dark alley with whoever writes the show. I can not imagine that stuff in real life. Maybe I do not want to believe that evil exists.

We are under a winter weather advisary 7a Thurs until 7a Fri, sleet and ice with some snow. Wish I could fly South for the winter.

Thanks for the answers. I have only seen one older CM and like the Brainy one better in the later shows where his hair is more unkempt. I have a lot of catching up to do, so maybe won't miss not having new shows to watch for a while. I came to Mad Men late, also. But, I bought the first season and am holding off watching until I can enjoy it quitely.

Delee said...

You are referring to Spencer Reid.
For a show I like I can never remember their names. I like Garcia and her similar character, Abby, on NCIS. Patinkin has a habit of leaving shows, he left Chicago Hope during the 2nd season to spend time with his family (?), huh.

NCIS is also run on USA from 4p to 8p during the week. 3 episodes Kate is still alive at this point of the re-runs.

On Tuesday night, I watched the last episode of Boston Legal (two hours). Kind of disappointing but I was compelled to watch. Alan Shor and Denny Crane got married as did Shirley schmitt and Carl Sack.

joy n said...

Delee, Jason did get engaged to one of the women on the new upcoming season of Bachelor. He stated he WAS in love with DeAnna, but moved on. He also stated he was surprised that she and Jesse broke up. He thought they would make it. I didn't.

It is sad to hear that Jeff had died. I wonder if he married Gretchen before he passed away. I kind of hope he didn't. I'm not sure I trusted her motives for being with him.

Donna in Alabama said...

I agree with you guys on Criminal Minds. It doesn't matter which of the two guys were in charge. Garcia and Reid are the unique ones I really like plus the guy that played Greg on Dharma and Greg. His character is so different my son had to tell me where I recognized him from.

I also have loved NCIS since season one. Mark Harmon is great as their leader. I love Abby, Ducky, Ziva, Tony and Proby all!
This show attracted me because of the relationship between the characters are much more real than the other "CSI" shows. They actually kid around, aggravate and sre sneaky in each others personal lives.

Delee, I don't think I would want to be in a LIGHTED alley with the writers. It IS very dark drama.

As far as South for the winter, our high yesterday was 86 degrees. It was 80 and 6 PM. A cold front came in and it dropped to 48 degrees overnight. High today was in the 50's. We are expecting a hard freeze tonight. Temps will be back in the 80's by Monday. A body just can't adjust to roller coaster temperatures like that.

Donna in Alabama said...

Hey Delee, come on back to Alabama!! ha ha Although, they are predicting "snow" here tomorrow also. You know it will not accumulate though. We had tornados and thunderstorms last night! Yuk!

I have not had a problem with roaches since I built my house in 1986 but I spray for them. I also do not collect boxes or junk because bugs especially roaches like to get in them. I had a mobile home once that had them infested in the walls. Needless to say I emptied everything out of it and had a pest company fumigate (no idea how to spell that) it before I would live in it!

I live in Corpus Christi, TX, which is on the Gulf coast. Did I ever tell you I hate hurricane season? LOL

How I wish i could find time to watch some of the shows but sadly I don't have enough time to watch.

Donna in Alabama said...

I don't live near the coast but I HATE hurricane season too. We get the tornados spawned from them. I HATE tornado season too which is now twice a year.

Has anyone seen Damages on FX with Glenn Close? That show is rivetting! They are playing 3 episodes back to back on Saturday night at 10pm CST but you need to start with episode one. The new season starts in January.

dla and Karen -- I too thought it was odd that suddenly they are painting Vicki as nice. Why do they do that? I'm answering my own question -- When it's early, any drama or villan ups ratings. When it gets close to the end, they have to make her look better so viewers can get behind her (and the show) if she wins.

Do you think that holds any water?

PDX Granny said...

Donna, I love Damages! I'm glad to hear they have some episodes playing this weekend. I'll have to set my DVR! I didn't miss any of them, but it's been so long since it's been on that I'm needing a refresher!

It's so frustrating when good shows like this have such a long time between seasons. They just did the same thing with Life on Mars.

I'm too old to try to remember what went on months previously!!!

dla said...

Sydney, I think you nailed the motivation to paint her as being a bit more likable in the last two eps.... I don't buy it for a minute, and I think this one is way too little way too late. I would have a very hard time getting behind Vicky if she pulled out the WIN. @@

(eyeroll in honor of Jackie)

It is rare that I really really dislike these characters on reality TV (typically I just ignore them if I don't care for them), but there have been a few this season that bring it out in me...

Vicky & Heba on TBL
Corinne & Randy on Survivor
Divorcees on TAR

Am I leaving anyone out?? lol

dla said...

JoyN, I do not believe that Jeff marries Gretchen before he passed away... I agree with the questions you have about motivation. :)

I, too, believe that the million dollar yacht is just silly. Shades of the silliness of the Atlanta crew.

meb said...

I too can't wait for Damages to come back... It's a great show!

A couple of shows that I really like they didn't or aren't coming back are Journeyman which was riveting..kept me on the edge of my seat, and they canceled it. They just don't give shows a chance.

Same thing with My Own Worst Enemy. I heard they were canceling this as well. While I'm not a Chris Slater fan, he does a credible job in this and I love the concept. He plays two people who are in one body. He's not a dual personality by choice, the Government (shades of Big Brother)has done this to him and when he's Edward, he's a Government Agent, but when he's Henry, he's a married man with children. The problem is that something has gone terribly wrong and he can turn into the other personality without warning. His family is unaware of his personality changes. Even he was unaware until it happened to him the first time and he was somewhere as Edward and in dangerous territory. Just a good show, and of course it'll be gone soon. Bummer!

Anonymous said...

I liked Journeyman, too. And I thought the house where the couple lived was one of the best on TV. I don't recognize the star of Journeyman in his new Grey's Anatomy role. I know he is an actor and it is a different role, but he really looks different, too, I think. Unless I am wrong and it isn't him. That would just be too funny.

Totally different subject, but I just have to say this.

Patty (who lurks but doesn't comment often) sent two postcards to my daughter's class from SD. Not only did she send the cards, but she wrote a full page letter with SD facts FROM the Gingerbread Man! My baby was soooo excited to get the mail and all of the kids were psyched to 'hear' from the Gingerbread Man.

Anybody who says blog communities are weird or are for psycho's can just kiss my A$$ because some of the best people I know hang out here!

(If you guys don't know what I'm talking about, read this.

meb said...

OMGosh Sizzie... I never even put it together... is that really him... now I have to go look it up. I'll be back and let you know.

meb said...

Kevin McKidd... and yep, Sizzie, it's him. I never even recognized him as the same person. Amazing!

Sydney said...

Sizzie and Meb - I knew that actor as a sullen roman gladiator in Rome, so it was hard for me to put him into Journeyman... but I got used to it and now he's on something else!

And in real life, he has a very thick accent. It's even more surreal to hear him speak in his natural voice after hearing him with an american accent -- amazing people can learn to speak that way WHILE losing themselves in a character. I could never do it!

meb said...

Sydney you just told me something else I didn't know... that he has an accent... from where? It boggles my mind as well that these people can do an American accent. When in theater, I couldn't conquer the New York jewish accent for plays I wanted to try out for. I can do British and a little Greek accent but that's pretty much it.

The two stars in Without A Trace, main guy and black detective, both have heavy accents, yet do the American quite well. Amazes me.

Sydney said...

meb -- I want to say it's a thick scottish brogue, but it sounds a little more street Irish than Sean Connery... Maybe you can find an interview of him talking on YouTube to hear it. You'd be amazed!

Donna - That's Hugh Laurie and he's even hotter when he speaks with his native English!
