Project Runway Talk - Season 8

Is anyone else watching?

Becky, I am watching. I am not fond of Heidi's new hair color.

Sydney said...

Thank you Jackie!!!

Sydney said...

I've been saying to my husband, something is not looking right on Heidi.

I am thinking she is finally looking *gasp* mature

Sydney said...

Oh, this outspoken ego-girl, the asian designer who did the black adn white pants gave me a hint at the top of the show that she might be argumentative with the judges, which is a surefire way to PISS THEM OFF.... well see if they keep her.

Sydney said...

what, is Heidi the new Simon C? I'm used to Nina being a itch, but Heidi is being really uberbitchy.

Sydney said...

As sung to the Billy Idol song... commenting with my se-e-lf

Semi-Spoiler alert:

So I was sorry to see who went home. And it probably felt doubly terrible that after that person was ousted, that person had to see the others come in after her high five-ing people that they made it. That had to suck.

Sydney said...

After Project Runway, the show with two former winners, the FABULOUS Austen Scarlett and Santino do a half hour road trip show.... I love Ms. Scarlett even though I may be spelling both names wrong, lol. Let me know if any of you watched it.

Delee said...

The bottom six, sure were the bottom. Surprised only one was sent home. HUH, they kept Casanova? That whatever you call it belonged more on a Vegas Showgirl stage than on PR. I watched the show afterwards, but was bored by it. Except for it cutting off any hour show at 10, doubt will watch again. Like the 2 guys, S and A, but yawn!

meb said...

Casanova is a train wreck... not waiting to happen... it already happened. How could you put together what he did on that model, and not have time to complete it. There was nothing to it. And yet he stayed??? Only for people to talk about so the show gets some coverage, cause he was terrible.

I also thought the little girl they let go..can't remember names yet, wasn't THAT bad to be the one sent home. I agree the outfit didn't fit the model, but Casanova's did???

Is it Andrew who designed the long dress (I hesitate to call it a gown)??? He is so cute... not in looks but in actions. I like him and hope he does better.

meb said...

delee... it gets much better... you need to stay.

I'll probably comment after the fact since I don't watch in real time, but I love hearing what everyone has to say about the episode.

Sydney...I agree that the one who went home had to feel bad when the others come in happy that they made it. Didn't it usually work out that the one who didn't make it was last to come into the room, thus she didn't have to see all that happiness.

I hope they don't do that again!

lynn1 said...

I agreed with the judges on the winner. I would love to wear that dress.
I totally disagreed with the the one they sent home. I thought her dress looked better than several other designers outfits. I would have sent home Casanova and Ivy (Capri pants and gray frilly top) before the one they chose.
I did watch Austin & Santino. I wasn't real Wowed by the dress they designed but I enjoyed watching them interact.

lynn1 said...

P.S.
I also thought the guy who did the backwards Kimono and used staples to hold it together was worse than the girl who left.

Margo said...

Thanks Jackie!!

Hi everyone - I have not watched yet but I looked to see who went home.

Sydney said...

I have Andy in the pool. I like several designers but I do really like him... and apparently so does most of the world who took the time to "like" him under his picture on this link. He has by far the most votes of approval.

lynn1 said...

Did anyone else watch tonight?
I 100% agreed with who went home. I also liked the winning outfit.

meb said...

Wow... can you imagine having your design up on that billboard... that would be fantastic. I'd be standing under it, grabbing everyone who went by and telling them that it was my design...

I'm glad Jason went home/ He was too sure of himself and couldn't take the criticism. I did feel bad for I think it was Andrew... he was sort of cute in his actions, but this last design was way, way, bad news. And he did copy the winner's back of the blouse from the week before, and he didn't do a good job of it at that.

I liked the little guy's outfit too, and loved the way he posed his model in the shoot. I hope he now will make some friends.

meb said...

Sydney... where are you... thought you wanted to talk over here.

Casanova is my guy, and he's still there.

The right person went home last episode. Her dress was ridiculous. It was buckled in the front and the back inserts of color were off center... the dress definitely didn't flow.

The girl who made the shorts came close to going home and if they had sent two of them, she should have... the back didn't fit and that big black zipper looked terrible on the white... What was she thinking.

RyzandShyn said...

There are many reasons why I adore Tim Gunn. When he made his comment about Gretchen manipulating, controlling, and bullying the team, he gave me one more huge reason.
How great was that? When has Tim EVER done something like that? That Gretchen had it coming and I'm so glad it was Tim who gave it to her. She should be mortified.

lynn1 said...

Gretchen and Ivy are real harpies aren't they?

RyzandShyn said...

You got it right, Lynn1!
Ivy is driving me crazy with her negative comments and attitude. I haven't seen her make anything that looked good or was well constructed. And still she thinks she's all that and a bag of chips. UGH...I feel a nerd herd moment coming on!
I'm giving Michael C and Mondo my fan favorite votes.

meb said...

While Casanova is my guy in the pool and he does pretty good work, I like Mondo. He really does exceptional designs... I love how he does that little extra to make it stand out, whatever 'it' is. He appears to be able to do anything.

I'm so glad he has earned the respect of the other designers and he's no longer alone.

Gretchen is a pain and will continue to be one. She does pretty good designs usually. She certainly did her team a disservice.

I also glad Michael C. came out a winner again. I don't know that he really is that good... I think he lucked out both times.

dla said...

Hello everyone!! I watch the show religiously every week at some point, and always forget to come here to read your comments!

RyzandShyn, I could not agree with you MORE about Tim's comments re: Gretchen!! That was must see TV!! I

I don't have a true favorite yet, and I do like Gretchen's designs most of the time, but I really don't like her superior attitude and the way she continually trashes a couple of the other designers... Clearly, her opinion is not aligned with the judges based on Michael C's wins the last couple of weeks! ;)

I will try to remember to stop in next week to see what you are thinking! Have a wonderful weekend!

lynn1 said...

I liked Michael C.'s little black dress alot but I'm not sure I would have given him the win over Mondo's design.
I wonder if the judges were influnced at all by last weeks tirade against Micheal C.and hoped to give Ivy, Gretchen a few others a little wake up call.
Gretchen has made a few comments about the judges and the show in general that make me wonder about her making through the season. She is a talented designer but if she doesn't get her emotions and opinions under control she might be asked to leave or just quit.

OT
Do any of you watch Top Chef? I was so disappointed that Tiffany was voted off. I think she is an excellent chef, far better than some of the ones still left.

Sydney said...

too have been watching religiously as usual but like Dla, have forgotten to come here to comment. How nuts am I when I think I was the one to ask Jackie to set it up.

I think it's because I am not usually watching in real time, but on TIVO. I usually think to come to Jackies to comment WHILE the show is on because we all live blog on so many of the other shows.

I will jump off the couch when and if Gretchen goes. She is talented and I think the judges think she's one of the best there but I think they're astonished that she talks to them the way she does. I wonder about her up-brining or her place in her family... whatever made her that way.

Casanova cracks me up and at the same time I can barely look when he 's on, lol, And I love Mondo.

I like Michael C, at least as far as I've seen. I do think it was a drag that no one could muster a congrats -- not the ones who think they're the more talented or the ones who haven't won any challenges. Just mean spirited.

lynn1, I don't watch any of the cooking shows at all... I would bet that there are some posters who do watch, however!

Syd, in total agreement with you re: curiosity about Gretchen's history... She is just a pill. And also agree on the mean spirited nature re: Michael C... Love him or hate him, but professional courtesy calls for a congrats!

meb said...

Lynn1.. I do watch Top Chef and love it. I was sad to see Sandy go, but of those left, I do believe she was probably the logical one. Her cooking always seemed to be a type of stew or vegetable offering. Those can really have flavor, but I don't think that's up to par for a Top Chef.

I also watch Network Food Star... that's entertaining as well.

Where oh where are we going to talk about Bachelor Pad?????

meb said...

I meant Tiffany.. who the heck is Sandy??? LOL

Becky said...

I will be so glad when Gretchen goes. She is a good designer, but hard to work with. Casanova is so funny about her drawing LARGE pictures.

RyzandShyn said...

Did anyone take a look at the 10 who presented at Fashion Week?
I liked Mondo's collection. It's too hard to tell who the real finalists are from looking at it online, but something about Andy's collection makes me think he is one of the real finalists.

OT...I read that the next Top chef is an All Star version, running the same as a regular season, not short like the last All Stars. I read Tiffany is in it as well as Angelo. Two of my favorites Tre and Dale from Season 3 were also seen with film crews in NYC. fun stuff!

Sydney said...

OK, I DO NOT understand the judges, who liked what Gretched did tonight. The velbet and feathers bad old chenille robe look with the uneven keyhole back with r-stones? Then the cocktail outfit that had none of the same colors and was one more drapey, shapeless top with a belt. UGH.

And they hated Michaels... I mean, it was well constructed, even if the train was too long and there was a hoop. His dressed looked very much like the kid who did the alien warrior look (which I thought should have won, as much as I like Mondo). Mondo won doing another plaid and stripes outfit. The cocktail dress did make her look slim and was striking, but the patent leather palquet with buttons at the neckline took away from it for me.

I don't understand those judges.

lynn1 said...

Sydney I was so glad to see your post. I have been wondering if my sense of style is really very awful or if I just am not getting the judges' point of view. ( I have wondered if Heidi, Michael, & Nina are on crack! LOL)

I thought Gretchen's designs last night were frumpy and outdated. I actually thought of the TV shows Rhoda,Mary Tyler Moore and the Golden Girls. Those coats, dusters, long vest or whatever you call them that Gretchen favors are awful to me.
I did like Andy's, Mondo's and April's designs.
A few weeks ago when they did the resort wear, I was so surprised at how the judges trashed Cassanova's design. He had a off the shoulders peasant style blouse with wide leg trousers. I thought it was a classic and timeless look. The judges said it looked like something a 70 year old grandma would wear to the Mall. I am neither a Grandma nor 70 years old and I would definitely have worn it.
Maybe it wasn't an outfit a 20 something year old size zero startlet would wear but it didn't look frumpy to me.
I think they chose the right person to be out. I have not like Ivy or her designs. I think she has been hanging on by a thread(pun intended) for several weeks.

meb said...

LYNN 1 I agree with you about some of the things the judges like or dislike. I thought Casanova's outfit was gorgeous, and if he had made it for the Jackie O segment (he was gone already), he could have won it. Jackie O would definitely have worn something like that. I haven't seen the last episode, so I'm anxious to get a look at it. I'll comment when I finish.

Sydney, all of Gretchen's designs look alike to me. She can't get off the beige's and camel's. I thought in the beginning she was a contender, but not anymore.

ML I didn't see Fashion Week. I watched the one NPHarris hosted, and thought it was boring... It was Fashion Night Out... something like that.

meb said...

RyznShyn... I can't read... you're the one who asked about Fashion Week. Sorry. Anyway, I didn't see it.

Sydney said...

RYZ -- I am wondering how you looked up who presented at Fashion Week -- is it on the PR website or did you google it? Must see, if you can share a link.

I do think that Mondo will go. And Meb, I too thought Gretchen would be a contender and don't now at all. But that girl thinks she's going to be...

Lynn1, thanks for keeping me company then! I watch closely to see if they are willing to disagree with each other -- or if the star says it's not good, will the judges say that too. It seems rare that someone speaks up with a different opinion, and it's often the guest. And then it's rather mild.

Michael Kors is getting more and more outrageous with his comments, and it's more entertaining (for those of us who love trashy humor, like I do) but it's also starting to be unnecessarily crushing and not even that helpful or constructive to the contestants, so it's boarderline cruel. Simon Cowell may have made his mark that way but I don't think it's actually will serve Michael well in the long run.

But in the world of cutthroat fashion where almost everyone is that way and value is placed on only the MOST superficial aspects, he will be very popular as long as he's doing a hit show.

I follow Una Lamarche in the Huffington Post because her PR summaries crack me up. Above is the Fashion Week article from her.
SOOOOO glad Ivy is gone, especially when Michael C. is still there..hee hee on her. I didn't like her attitude and didn't like her taste level or construction, although her Jackie look was ok.
Mondo all the way!

Here's another link to full coverage of the 10 PR designers who showed at Fashion Week.
Be sure to click on Spring 2011 or you'll get other years/ohter designers.

I agree Sydney that the snarky remarks have hit an all time high, not just from Michael but from Heidi and Nina too. I'd like to see some more helpful hints thrown in with the harsh comments. I know they do that, but not to the level that one would expect. Maybe it's Lifetime, maybe the longer show, or maybe because many in this group just aren't progressing very well.

Sorry...otherlink was broken, this one will get you to Christopher. Then click under spring 2011 and look under P for Project runway and you can see each designer's collection.

Sydney said...

Thx Ryz. I am confused how they had so many make runway collections when I thought that was a reward for winning the show... can you 'splain to your slow friend?

Sydney said...

and furthermore, lol, why are there collections from booted contestants like Ivy and Cassanova?

I love Mondo but I didn't like his collection -I mean, is it wearable? And I like wierd. Maybe he's like Pucci or McQueen -- it will be a collectors item for the very rich perhaps....

Sydney said...

shockingly, I thought Michael C's was the most gorgeous and wearable.Who did you like best?

Toni said...

Just found your blog and I love it! As for Project Runway....I nthink if Gretchen stays she should shut up!!!

Sydney said...

Welcome Observer! We have a great community here -- we comment on lots of TV shows... don't know if you just found this one show or explored more of Jackie's site.

RyzandShyn said...

Hi Sydney!
The show is not in real time, so when real NY Fashion Week started, all 10 designers were still on the show. They don't want to give the ending away, so they have all the designers still on the show do collections for the Project Runway Fashion Week show. In other years they were closer to the finale in real time but did the same thing for the Fashion Week show, so there would be maybe 6/7 designers showing, never 10! The real final 3are in there, we just don't know who they are. It's fun to see all the collections and try and figure out who they are.
From looking at the collections shown I think Mondo and Andy are real finalists, but can't figure out who the third is. I figure Gretchen is, but hope she's not, I hope it's Michael C.
I'm excited to see the show tonight and see what all the "cheating" talk is about.

lynn1 said...

Boy this was a very emotional show. I cried a lot. If you have not watched it yet get your tissues ready.
Still no answer as to who was accused of cheating.
I thought the right person was sent home.
I thought the right person won.
I did like April's design alot too.
I was underwhelmed by all the others.
I hope that next season they will go back to the one hour format. I am not enjoying the 90 minutes show. Last night was the first time this season that there was enough drama to keep me entertained.

Was Mondo's story not absolutely heart-breaking this week? I cried.
I was so afraid it was going to be the mother episode where they have to design for someone else's mother. I hope they retired that idea permanently.
Val's outfit did deserve to get ouft. I've liked her stuff less and less as the show progressed.
I'm guessing the cheating allegations don't come until the finale. Probably something like the time Kara got the expensive shoes at a discount or something like that, something someone did to get their fashion week runway show together that bent or broke the rules.

RyzandShyn said...

I took this from the Blogging Project Runway website:
"Laura Bennett says it very well this morning on her blog:
"Mondo's brave revelation of his sexuality and his HIV status sheds light on many things about him — his fragile nature, his initial trouble connecting with the other designers, his eventual bond with the outcast Michael C., but most of all it sheds light on his clothing design. It was screaming to us the entire time. "I am colorful!" "I am young!" "I am alive!" It is a message more to him than the rest of us. If he can believe those things, he can overcome HIV. And he will. And we will all be rooting for him."

lynn1 said...

Well well well Ms. "Poison" Ivy comes back and starts where she left off with her attacks on Micheal C.
I just can't come up with words to express how much I dislike her. I noticed that April and some of the others jumped right on the band wagon with her.
It may have been editing but it seemed like Gretchen didn't join in on the Michael C. bashing.
I thought it was funny how Ivy talked about Karma and then she got something in her eye. That girl/woman is a real piece of work.
I found it curious that in the workroom Heidi was loving Michael's oversized hoodie poncho but when the same piece hit the runway it was too big and not right for her collection.
I liked Andy's designs OK. After Nina said it looked kind of like Halloween, all I could see was a Halloween Skeleton costume.
I personally liked Mondo's designs the best. I guess at this point he is my personal favorite designer and who I am cheeering for to win it all.
I saw on the promos for next week's show that Gretchen asked to go home. That would be fine with me.

meb said...

RyznShyn.. I agree with you... I wish Gretchen would just go away, but I don't think it's going to happen until she gets eliminated. That's probably why she wants to go...she's afraid she'll be next because "Heidi doesn't like" her. Balogny... she has gone down hill from the beginning. All her designs look like variations of the ones before... I think she's a one trick pony!

Love Mondo.. not sure I'd wear all his designs but in my day I would have be the one wearing most of them. I always preferred 'different'.

I like Andie as well. He did a great job with Heidi's collection, although I too saw the skeleton costume.

I hope Michael C gets the 3rd spot in the finale, just because I would like Gretchen and April to get their 'come uppance'. :)

Hi there lynn1 and meb and sydney!
I agree with Ivy being poison for sure. She stooped so low while going after Michael C. LOVED the needle shooting off at her after she mentioned karma getting Michael. Also appreciated Tim going after her. Tim has his game face on this season! I adore that man.
I hope Gretchen gets ouft soon, but I think I'm asking for too much. She's such an egomaniac.
I love Mondo's looks and his fabric choices, not to wear myself, but as fashion. Andy's stuff is also well thought out and fashion-forward. I didn't like the skeletor look either, but there wasn't much they could do since Heidi's line was mucho blah. His was the best of the bunch.

lynn1 said...

If anyone saw the show tonight 10/14 would you please let me know who won and who was aufed.
We are on the road. I missed tonight's show and won't be able to actually watch it until next week.
Thanks!

ryzandshyn said...

Hi Lynn1,
They loved Michael C.'s this week, he's in first, then Mondo, then Andy. They thought April does the same thing over and over and that Gretchen lost her steam. They ouft April. The four left are still competing for 3 Fashion Week spots. They will go home and Tim will visit next week.
Happy and safe road trip home.

lynn1 said...

Thanks ryzandshyn.
I am so happy for Michael C. I don't think he is necessarily the best designer but he has been treated so poorly by some of the other designers It is nice to see he is still in the competition and the mean ones are mostly gone.

meb said...

I love Michael C...probably because everyone treated him so badly in the beginning, but I have to say, I didn't think his dress was ALL that. I guess he held true to his inspiration of the 'The Statue of Liberty', but it was so plain and the back almost showed her butt cleavage (LOL), and he didn't know what fabric he used??? BUT... it worked for him and I'm so glad.

I'm glad April went home and I'll be even more thrilled when Gretchen doesn't make it to the final 3... PLEASE!

RyzandShyn said...

Yes, meb, I agree, that dress he made has been made for a million years already and I think the judges went a bit overboard in their praise. That slit was way too high and the back a too low.
I am hoping Gretchen blows it and doesn't get a finalist spot for Fashion Week.
I hope we get to vote fan favorite because I hope Michael C. wins and rubs it in Ivy's face. Actually, I'd vote for Mondo, but I think he'll win the show.

lynn1 said...

SPOILER ALERT

I am very disaapointed with the judges decision on the final 3. I really wanted Michael C to be in the final 3. I know I am prejudiced against Gretchen and for Michael C and I know I am not all that knowledgeable about fashion and design but I really thought Gretchen's designs in the final runway show were not that good.
To be fair I was not a fan of Michael C's use of festhers on the cocktail dress but his other 2 designs were much better than Gretchen's IMHO.
I wasn't too wowed by Andy's Bikini outfit either.
I personally love Mondo but thought his polka dot gown was freakish. I felt like the model should have had a skelton mask on to complete her look.
Maybe it is just me but it has seemed like the judges have gotten off being bullies this year.
My husband who never watches Project Runway saw the judges critiques last night and he commented on how harsh they were and how they seemed to get off being mean spirited and not giving supportive and constructive critism.
I hope Micheal C will recover from his emotional breakdown and go on to have a wonderful career.
I will be cheering for Mondo to take it all.

RyzandShyn said...

UGH, the Finale Part 1 was a disappointing. I think Michael C.'s outfits were more Fashion Week worthy than Gretchen's. She's getting more depressed as time goes on and it shows. A fan favorite always seems to get brought along to the end like this.
Maybe Lifetime HAD to have a woman there just because it's Lifetime?
No denying Mondo and Andy deserved to be there.

meb said...

Well Michael C was definitely over the top. I, too, liked his designs better than Gretchen's RyznShyn.

And when Tim was giving them their instructions to design something that went with their collection, I might have thought the same color scheme.

The judges WERE mean and they seemed to take pleasure in doing it. I think the four of designers didn't get the memo that said this is the final time you're showing, so give us your best. What was that about. They all said they had surprises for the runway??? Dumb!

They did 'warn' Mondo that the mixing of patterns was his thing but to be careful of getting too costume-y. I agreed with that. He is getting a little too outlandish.

I watched Fashion Week on my computer, and I must say, I liked Ivy's best, considering that I didn't like Ivy at all. Her designs were more of something one would wear.

I didn't care for Mondo's or Andy's and Gretchen's were simply Gretchen. Michael's were also wearable.

Sydney said...

The judges raved this was teh best PR ever -- yes, this from the king of creative insults Mr. Koors and the cold Nina Garcia and the even colder Heidi. Hmmmm.

Did you all think that about this season? I was fairly bored. I like Mondo, Andy and Peach, I guess.

I thought Michael's crying was immature and manipulative, and at the same time, I was aghast that the other three contestants just sat on the couch and watched him crumple against the wall - this group who had just been hugging.

I thought Gretchen's collection looked really good -- stepped up the styling so much more it was amazing. Yes, it's the Joni Mitchel 2010, Santa Fe, boho polished look (I thought the jewelry looked very cheap but if Heidi loved it it must look better in person) BUT I didn't think she should have won. I thought Mondo's was too over the top but he clearly knows how to cut fabric like a master and sew it to make the figure below look BEYOND amazing... and I love him. All of that said, I wouldn't be interested in ONE piece. There is a place for both, Gretchen did have a mix of ready to wear separates.... Andy is very talented but had the most boring collection. I don't love Michael but I loved his to bits.

Go figure. What did you think?

lynn1 said...

After all the drama and fights this season I shouldn't have been surprised (but was) at how the judges fought over who would win.
I was very disappointed with Gretchen winning. I haven't made it a secret that for the most part I didn't like her or her designs.
One of the things I have loved about Project Runway in the past is that the designers created over the top show stopper clothes for the runway. I knew I would not be able to go to Macy's to buy them.
I thought Gretchen's designs looked like something I could find at JC Penney's.
I absolutely could not believe the judges didn't call her out on the Rompers. I think they looked more like Granny panties! Who on earth would wear those??????
I think it is possible that Gretchen won becuase it fed the judges egos that she listened to them and made changes. It may have cost Mondo the win that he showed the Polka Dot gown after Nina and Michael trashed it. He was asked why did he keep it in his collection to show on the runway. I personally did not care for the gown but it was very Mondo.
Through out the season I liked Michael C.'s and Mondo's designs best. I would actually wear some of Mondo's bold crazy plaids. I would not ever consider wearing his Polka Dot gown even if I had the figure to do it.
I hope that next season the show will go back to the 1 hour format. The 90 minute show was just too long to keep me entertained.
I would give this season a grade of C- .

I gave the television whiplash when I clicked it off after they announced GRETCHEN. I moaned, groaned and carried on like a big baby. I should have realized how it was going to end when I realized I was cheering for Heidi.
I call bs.
I look forward to what's next for Mondo.

meb said...

Gretchen??? Who would have thunk? I do think Mondo was WAY OVER THE TOP, but his finished product was so polished, he or even Andy should have won just for that.

I too thought it rather boring this year.
