Survivor: Nicaragua - Season Premiere Blog Party

survivor,jackiestvblog

The season premiere is about to start here on the East Coast. For the premiere, I'll be posting the major events here in this entry as it airs. Since I won't be writing up the episodes for TV Squad this season, I might play around with live-blogging the show itself or another format down the road. Not to worry -- we'll always have the blog party going on! All the real fun is in the comments section -- everyone is invited to join in! Just treat each other with respect ... feel free to mock castaways who might deserve mocking!
;-)

Zoetawny has made a new show blog logo for us to rock in the new season. That's because she herself rocks. But we know that.

Margo has set up the blog pool. If you didn't make the cut, feel free to cheer on the castaway of your choice! Here's her list (remember, it's MARGO calling 'em "oldies," not ME).

Espada Tribe: (Oldies but Goodies)
Dan Lembo - Sydney
Holly Hoffman - Merrilee
James “Jimmy T” Tarantino - SueGee
Jane Bright - PDXGranny, Big Ed
Jill Behm - Delee, Monty924
Jimmy Johnson - Ben
Marty Piombo - Jackie
Tyrone Davis - SharonS
Wendy DeSmidt-Kohloff - Gaylos, Auntie Leigh
Yve Rojas - Jennasmom

La Flor Tribe: (Young-uns)
Alina Wilson - Lisanne
Ben “Benny” Henry - Laurie, Dusty
Brenda Lowe - Lynn1, Margo's Mom
Chase Rice - Terry in PA
Judson “Jud” Birza - ML, Zoetawny
Kelly Bruno - Catonine, Rbennie
Kelly Shinn - MEB
Matthew “Sash” Lenahan - Nana in NW, Donna in FL
NaOnka Mixon - Margo, Donna in AL
Shannon Elkins - JoyN, Becky

Survivors ready?

Brenda (La Flor) found the medallion of power (new) and they're dividing the tribes by age. It would mean power down the line for her tribe or they can take flame and fishing equipment instead. What they don't choose, the other tribe gets. Probably a wise decision, they chose the fishing gear.

Espada made their own fire.

Kelly B. with her prosthetic leg is already a target on her tribe. They're worried about sympathy votes at the end and her ability in challenges.

After the first night, Jimmy Johnson isn't feeling so hot and says it's harder than he thought.

There are hidden idols once again -- two girls on La Flor found a clue.

If Espada uses the medallion of power, they can have an advantage in the immunity challenge. If they use it, then it goes to the other tribe. They're confident they won't need it in this challenge -- filling buckets of water from gutters, puzzle.

La Flor won immunity. Uh-oh. Wendy was voted out. Good, I think she would have driven me crazy and I'm not even in Nicaragua!

Olivia is SOOOOO excited about Survivor! Can you believe a 7 year old is so into this show? She wasn't even born when it started!! :-)

monty924 said...

Ready here!!!

Becky said...

(Executing a perfect swan dive) I am here! I brought fried chicken, potato salad, balloons and party hats. I am certain someone will bring a cake so we can all celebrate Jackie's birthday.

Margo said...

Welcome pool players as always the rules are:

Bathing suits are NOT optional
No Running
No Spitting
No Horseplay
No Name Calling of fellow posters

There are plenty of floaties around so relax and have fun.

Margo aka The Lifeguard

Joe in NY said...

Hi folks.

It's nice to actually have some older people, but why nobody in their 30s?

joyn said...

Finally! YAY Survivor!

Merrilee said...

Happy Birthday Jackie!!

Joe in NY said...

Happy Birthday, Jackie! From one Virgo to another.

Merrilee said...

Go holly!! My pool pick

Becky said...

I will be rooting for Shannon, but am also pulling for the Oldies but Goodies.

Cha Cha said...

Good luck you guys on your pool and happy birthday again Jackie

monty924 said...

Oh, slam from Jeff!

Merrilee said...

1st blind side of the season

joyn said...

Me, too, Becky!

Merrilee said...

ahhh tough choice! What to do what to do

Joe in NY said...

Interesting choice. I would think "power" is good, but the biggest problem people usually have early is food and water. I think I'd take the gear...anyone?

monty924 said...

Aww, I miss Russell! Wonder if any of them will pull some of his tricks this season?

Merrilee said...

Joe-
I would take the gear in a heart beat!

monty924 said...

I think the gear and fire is the most important at this point.

ML said...

Woooooot wooooot! Happy Birthday Jackie!

All I have to say so far is hot hot hot. The young men and the older guys!
ML

joyn said...

I'd take the gear too, this early in the game. You need fire!

Donna in FL said...

Wow ORK can't beleive your daughter is 7 already!

Merrilee said...

I wonder if they are going to sit around talking football all day?

Merrilee said...

this team isn't struggling for fire!

monty924 said...

Yay, oldies. I love it when they make fire without flint!

Sydney said...

WOAH, I was expecting BB to be on first. IT's SURVIVOR NIGHT EVERYBODY!!!

Merrilee said...

That is because we have more life experience

Joe in NY said...

The biggest advantage the old people should have is work ethic. If those youngsters are anything like most of my students.

monty924 said...

Sash is a cutie... lots of them on the young tribe.

Becky said...

From what I have seen of Shannon --I don't like him very much.

Merrilee said...

don't you just LOVE guys in ther briefs??

Joe in NY said...

Why are these 2 guys in their underwear already.

monty924 said...

I agree, Joe.

PlaidChick said...

LOL they're blurring out the boys' packages?!

Merrilee said...

plaidchick-

I thought that was my tv. glad to see it wasn't. lol

Elizabeth Beetschen said...

Oh no a guy alliance already. I wonder if they'll call themselves the brigade?

joyn said...

The girl with one leg has some great abs!

Anonymous said...

Good thing I'm not in YOUR pool Margo! Cuz I'm not wearing a bathing suit!!!!!!!!! :-)

Merrilee said...

Lisanne said...
Oh no a guy alliance already. I wonder if they'll call themselves the brigade?

wouldn't that be a hoot!

Joe in NY said...

Lisanne! I'd LMAO if they called themselves the Brigade. How funny would that be? Since this was back in June, they would actually be the Original Brigade!

By the way, if I were on survivor, I would not wear cotton boxer-briefs. I'd wear nylon briefs: easy to wash, dries quickly, virtually doubles as a swimsuit. Those cotton briefs are gonna be RANK by day 3.

Anonymous said...

Donna - I know, right! She just started 2nd grade and will be 8 in December! I keep forbidding her to get any bigger but she just says "Mom, I can't help it!"

Becky said...

I agree about taking the gear. The oldies have fire now, but will they be able to catch anything to eat? The young 'uns have a better chance for food since they have fishing gear.

BTW, Happy Birthday again, Jackie. Did anyone bring the BD cake?

Merrilee said...

I will remember that if I ever try out for survivor.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Joe! Now I'm picturing you in your briefs! Rawr!!

Joe in NY said...

the one-legged girl is cute. BUT, she just doesn't have a strategy here and she's too paranoid about the leg. There was little point in trying to hide it at all. And she should be aware that it makes her a target either because: A) they think she's weak or B) they think she's too sympathetic. She needed to go in their with a strategy to neutralize that.

Joe in NY said...

I think I'm going to go with Fabio...he's so dumb he makes me laugh.

monty924 said...

Whoa, Jimmy's sick already. Not good!

Sydney said...

Ork, I can't believe she's 7 already either.

Joe,maybe 30's are too boraderline. Just starting to mature and then no enough conflict with the elders?

Margo -- suits optional!

meb said...

Happy Birthday Jackie! Hope it was and is a good one!

Gotta look for Kelly Shinn... she's my pool pick.

Jimmy seems a little too jovial, wonder how long that will last.

Anonymous said...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACKIE!!
Well, already I do not like Marty on the old tribe and Shannon on the young tribe.

Marty because he's already said he doesn't want Jimmy Johnson there; and I am NOT a huge fan of him, but I think it's interesting he's participating.

Shannon because he's already targeting the women. What a sexist. Geesh.

Sydney said...

gee, everyone on his team looked real sympathetic (not) to his story of the last 24 hours.

Merrilee said...

looks like our first showmance

Sydney said...

Did I detect a little misogeny from the pretty brunette boy in the red skivvies?

Becky said...

Oh, oh. Jimmy is in trouble. Close you mouth and stop talking, Cowboy.

At least the Oldies have a fisherman on their team.

Merrilee said...

Meb said Gotta look for Kelly Shinn... she's my pool pick.

She is the girl in the coral bra with the youngun's

Donnain FL said...

I posted in the last BB comments that Kelly (girl with one leg) is from my home town. Her father was a professor at Lynn University. He was killed in the earthquake in Hati. Very sad....

Joe in NY said...

Do you think if Russell had one leg he would have gotten more votes?

I mean, the people voting are the same morons who want to vote her out NOW so they don't feel the need to give her a million later. LMAO. Where's the sympathy NOW?

Jackie S. said...

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Anonymous said...

Ooooo...a survivor shomance already!

Sydney said...

Donna in FL -- Wow, that's really sad.

Sydney said...

Still looking for Dan from the older tribe. Right now I'm glad it's not Jimmy -- but interesting speech from him just now.

Anonymous said...

Seriously...I would be laughing at those young'uns too!

Merrilee said...

ok? what was that??

Sydney said...

I love that Jeff is not amused. He;s a producer, doesn't have to fake anything anymore.

Joe in NY said...

Now that was a pretty good strategy by Jimmy: tell them that he has no interest in winning and he'll help them. He helps neutralize his celebrity. Nice.

How weird was that entrance by the youth?

Anonymous said...

Come on old farts!!! You can beat those kiddos!

Merrilee said...

I wonder if that was a good choice to keep the mediallion?

Sydney said...

boy the blue pourer sucks at the top. Do it a tad more slowly and don;t drop so much at the top.

Merrilee said...

Go older tribe!

Anonymous said...

This is hilarious! Olivia is rooting for the young yellow team and I'm rooting for the old blue team!

monty924 said...

Haha, I was just getting ready to post on the Medallion of Power.

I'm not sure I like it, and my brother just called and said he's loving it! :)

Merrilee said...

hopefully the oldies are faster at puzzle solving

Joe in NY said...

I think the medallion adds an interesting twist and an added layer of strategy.

Sydney said...

Wait, there's a younger in white heels? How many times do we have to do this show to have contestants know that they may be wearing what they have on for promo shots/travel or whatever. I'd be in a bathing suit and tennis shoes with those light waterproof pants that zip off at the knee to make shorts, a tee and a sweater tied around my waist for a month before we went and never get out of it, lol.

Merrilee said...

let's see if Jimmy's speech was successful.

Elizabeth Beetschen said...

Hmmm. no mention of a hidden idol at the older camp

Joe in NY said...

I think they were right not to use the medallion. Wasn't a contest where youth much mattered and, using hindsight, they were right behind them on the water, they lost it on the puzzle.

Sydney said...

Joe in NY said...

Now that was a pretty good strategy by Jimmy: tell them that he has no interest in winning and he'll help them. He helps neutralize his celebrity. Nice.

ITA Joe

meb said...

I think it was a smart move to keep the Medallion... the problem was they could have won this challenge and needed to.

Even tho I have a youngun' in the pool, I'm going to have to root for the oldies but goodies gang.

Joe in NY said...

I agree Sydney. There's no excuse for not being dressed properly. So many options in synthetic materials. Even if you want to wear an evening gown you make sure it is nylon or kevlar or something useful. And convertible clothing would be the best as it gives you options as the temperature changes.

Merrilee said...

Sidney-

I would be wearing 5 bathing suits 4 nylon sweat pants and 5 tank tops. lol

Joe in NY said...

would be funny if Jimmy Johnson was the first one voted out after they used him in all those promos.

Merrilee said...

anybody going to be watching the new hawaii 5-0?

Joe in NY said...

Does anyone think the Hawaii 5-0 has a chance to actually be better than the original? They seem to have a sense of humor about the whole thing.

SueGee said...

I am soooo ready!! SPLASH

Go Jimmy T

SueGee on the Left Coast

Sydney said...

Geeze, he's 48? He looks older...

Joe in NY said...

lol, Merrilee, great minds think alike. I'm in for 5-0

meb said...

Lisanne... no mention of the hidden idol makes you think that Jimmy just might have it since it appeared he came in with the tree mail.

Anonymous said...

That scraggly haired old guy is very annoying!

Sydney said...

OK, so that's not my guy in the pool either.

Joe in NY said...

I'm thinking the guy campaigning against Jimmy is going home. He came off as unbalanced in that tirade.

Joe in NY said...

Nice one again by Jimmy Johnson. (BTW, I never liked him as a coach, I'm a Bills fan!) Nominate yourself as weakest, that actually makes your second choice seem reasonable.

Anonymous said...

So, Jimmy Johnson thinks he's the weakest link, along with Wendy. And, the guys don't want him there. Okay, we might lose him tonight. I think they would be crazy to vote him off. Uhmmmm.

Merrilee said...

i know it is usually a group decision on whom to vote out. come on people, do rock, paper sissors here and make a decision

Joe in NY said...

I think Jimmy did all he could do. Notice he managed to make it a two person race when it really seemed like most people were only thinking him first.

Joe in NY said...

SueGee said...

I got a cake and some ice cream...anyone bring some candles??

SueGee

Joe in NY said...

Thank GOD, someone actually practiced fire making!!!

Anonymous said...

Well, Marty...they won't give Jimmy Johnson the million dollars. Everyone is there to win the million. Why would they give it to a billion dollar former coach? They won't. It's a shame, but it's true. These men are too worried about who's getting ahead of them. Wow.

Merrilee said...

Maybe wendy just voted herself out?

Sydney said...

why announce you made an alliance right off the bat? Or say you didn't connect with people? I know Jeff asks, but you have a choice to answer in a way that doesn't hurt you.

Joe in NY said...

OMG, shut up woman!

Joe in NY said...

If there was anyone wavering, I think she just sunk herself.

Anonymous said...

Ok, Chatty Kathy would have my vote right now!

monty924 said...

Chatterbox just shot herself in the foot. Why would you let them know that you can't keep your mouth shut?

Anonymous said...

Okay, Wendy. Shut up any time now.

SueGee said...

Anyone also watching AGT's finale?
Gonna be a juggling act tonight...

SueGee

Sydney said...

Wow, editing is making this group and look like a bunch of jerks. People can be pretty unkind pretty quickly, no matter how old you get.

Merrilee said...

Jimmy is probably telling the truth. if the marty and the other jimmy make it to the merge, we all know they will be voted out so jus live the coach in and put your big girl panties on and deal with the outcome.

Anonymous said...

So you all know, the anon is me ...
Penny

Forgot to sign it.

Joe in NY said...

I hate to say it (as an old guy myself) but I think these guys are waaaaay too worried about the end game when they are 3 days in. Of course they aren't the first tribe to make that mistake, but you have plenty of opportunities to get anyone out, you just need to keep the tribe strong for as long as possible.

monty924 said...

I have candles for the cake. :)

Sydney said...

a graveyards?

Merrilee said...

she sunk herself

Becky said...

Joe, I don't like the guy pushing for Jimmy J to go home or his buddy either.

I think they sent the right person home.

Anonymous said...

Why one vote Eve? What did she do?

Wendy - Miss Chatterbox. LOL

That's right AGT is on tonight. Running to DVR it in another room.

Penny

monty924 said...

I agree, Joe. You need to survive until the merge and then the game really begins. They never learn. Sigh

Merrilee said...

BIG delimia here-
big brother or america's got talent?

SueGee said...

Great Monte - now Jackie has to tell us how many candles LOL

Joe in NY said...

Interesting first episode. Can't say as I have any real favorites. Fabio is good as comic relief. I am sympathetic to the old tribe but I find a couple of them unlikeable. And I'm getting really tired of young hot people thinking the world was made just for them! LOL

As for the first tribal, I think Jimmy actually worked the whole tribe pretty well. His name was the first one mentioned, even BEFORE the immunity challenge. He nominated himself and Wendy. Made the case that he can't win. And in the end he didn't get a single vote!

Sydney said...

Becky (and Jackie) I have a big cake with candles to celebrate Jackie's b-day. (thanks for bringing all the other things!) Guess she's forfeiting any other plans to be with us tonight. That deserves a loud round of the happy birthday song before BB ... Survivors ready?

Merrilee said...

can't wait for next weeks tribal council!

Merrilee said...

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear jackie, happy birthday to you!

Sydney said...

Merilee! BIG BROTHER!!!

meb said...

Wendy had to vote for somone... I think she was the Eve vote.

She talked herself right off that tribe, just what she said her husband said she'd do. She should have shut=up... maybe Jimmy would have gotten at least one of those votes.

Joe in NY said...

So GREAT to have Survivor back. Can't possibly live up to Heroes vs. Villains but there are some characters out there...

SueGee said...

Ok off to finish cooking dinner and go for a walk before Survivor and BB and AGT all come on...

SueGee (who did have a fire extinguisher ready for the candles if needed ROFL

monty924 said...

I think we will all get a few laughs out of Fabio this season. Good for us, LOL!

Sydney said...

Happy birthday to you.... And many mooooooooore!

Anonymous said...

Heading over to the BB post now... See most of you there!!

Sydney said...

argh, we have to go to another page, just as the party was going....

Anonymous said...

I can see Jimmy J. being a target for the next Tribal Council, too. Hopefully, they'll win the next one becuase I do think they'll vote Jimmy J. out next. It'll be too bad if they do.

ML said...

Joe in NY- 3days?!? They be rank NOW! I do, however, think it's hilarious that they fuzzy it out. Exactly what are they blurring? They're fully covered. They don't blur the women unless something is showing. What is up with that? Oh, I think I may have answered my own question...

SR, my parents use to sing Hippo birdie two ewe to me as a kid. I think it was originally a Boynton animal card. I'm sure I still have it somewhere.

It looks like a great season already, and I like my goofy pool guy, Jud, aka Fabio, who literally could probably be my pool guy. The previews looked like they showed him in trouble with some other woman from the young tribe already not liking him. I want him to stick around, because he seems entertaining. However, he also seems a bit of a clutz, so he may be medically evacuated before he gets a chance to be voted out, if this stuff continues.

I wish we didn't have to wait a whole week for another installment. I would like to see Jimmy J stay, too. He's got to find another expendable person to take the focus off of him.
ML

Brent McKee said...

I find it very annoying that Marty is leading the charge against Jimmy Johnson because he's rich and famous. Marty - aka Martin Piombo - is the VP for Latin America of Yahoo!

Anonymous said...

Marty is jealous of Jimmy J's charisma. They both got money, but Marty has no charm.
ML

ML said...

Sorry that anonymous is me.

ML -lol About Fabio literally being able to be your pool boy. That would be a lucky thing, if he didn't say much.

Great ep.! Random thoughts:

Brenda (ex-cheerleader) talks about being able to manipulate men. Probably true, but it's sounds ugly said out loud. Seems it's said about once a season by someone. Ah, youth! Notice nobody makes a stupid comment like that at the oldies camp!

The young guys made me laugh when they talked about their place in the tribe (young and strong), since we know 1) that the comps will be less physical this year and 2) that one is an idiot (having promptly run off and told of his alliance to the 'pretty girl').

Targeting the girl with one-leg reminds me of how the same thing was done to the deaf girl a few seasons back.

Some of these women are so thin! By the end of the season, they are going to look very scary! Like walking skeletons!

Jane making fire in the first half-hour! Bravo!

I have Jimmy in the pool, so I'm hoping he sticks around for a while, he's entertaining. Notice he's the only one who looks COMFORTABLE talking to either the camera or the group. Balance that against the 4 people who were afraid to be the first to speak about who they wanted to vote out.

Tyrone cutting eyes at Wendy in jury cracked me up.

The guys who want to target Jimmy are probably right. Jimmy is charismatic, and that could spell trouble unless you have a good relationship with the tribe which right now, no one seems to have forged any bonds.

Good idea to hold the Medallion for now.

Being a fisherman (commercial, I assume), and fishing here are very different. People in other occupations have found outside jobs don't necessarily help a lot in in these surroundings. (Chef, carpenter, contractor, athlete, etc.)

It looks like it will be a fun season!

-Ben

Tyrone Davis should be voted off next. He is actually being investigated by the fire department for assaulting his own firefighter, during a fire! Call LAFD @ (213) 485-6009 to verify

I want to like my pool guy, Shannon, (he's hot!) but he's coming off as very sexist. Very disappointing. My heart is with the oldies anyway.
