'American Idol 6' - Idol Gives Back Results Show - East Coast Updates

Tune back to this entry throughout the evening for updates as the show airs here in the NYC area. Over 70 million votes last night.

Simon is in a suit with a 70s look open white shirt. Ryan shaved.

Earth, Wind, and Fire did a medley of their hits. Ben Stiller keeps singing badly. The final six sang "Time to Care" all dressed in white and looking great. Lots of bits about Africa, New Orleans, California for the cause. Il Divo is performing now.

Only one contestant has been told she's safe so far... Melinda Doolittle is safe. Supposedly we're in for the biggest voting shock in the show's history.

Jack Black did a bit. Paula told him the School of Rock Called and wants their diploma back. Simon declared it better than Sanjaya... cut to Sanjaya cracking up in the audience.

VOTING UPDATE: Now Blake is safe. So, Blake and Melinda can breathe easy for the rest of the show.

A Carrie Underwood taped video is playing now - "I'll Stand By You" - obviously created solely for the show and the cause.

Rascal Flats is singing "My Wish."

An unusual version of "Staying Alive" will air soon... 36 superstars if I heard right. Now another telethon kind of moment from the Appalachia area.

Ford video, now "Staying Alive" - celebrities lip-synch and dance. It can be downloaded on Itunes later. David Schwimmer, House, Blue Man Group, Shaq, more and more. Oh, and Miss Piggy, too.

VOTING UPDATE: Now Phil Stacey is safe. On the chopping block, LaKisha, Chris, and Jordin remain.

Ellen DeGeneres is personally donating $100,000. Josh Grobin is now performing backed by an African Childrens Choir.

Ohhh... Kelly Clarkson accompanied by JEFF BECK! (I'm an old-time Jeff Beck guitar freak.)

VOTING UPDATE: LaKisha is safe! So, only Jordin and Chris remain on the block. These aren't in a top to bottom order this week.

Who wants to bet Chris is going home? (Out of those two, it better be him!)

Celine Dion is singing a duet with Elvis Presley. Yes, you heard me. I thought it was an Internet joke, but there they are. Shades of Forrest Gump.

Now an Annie Lenox performance. (Oh, give me the days of "Sweet Dreams are Made of This" but she's singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water.")

VOTING UPDATE: Chris is SAFE. Jordin is also SAFE.

NO ONE is voted off this week. This week's votes will be added to next week's votes and next week TWO will go home.

Jackie-You wrote that Blake was safe earlier but then said that LaKisha, Chris and Blake were remaining on the block. Is it Jordin or Blake in the bottom three? I'm two hours behind you, it just started here, and can't wait to find out on my own. ;)

I've got a feeling the shock will be Lakisha going home.

OOPS. Blake is safe. Jordin, LaKisha and Chris are in limbo still. I fixed that.

Oh, no bottom three -- they said the announcements aren't in any particular order (other than they're sure to announce the boot last).

It wouldn't shock me if LaKisha went (see last night's entry). Now, if JORDIN went, THAT would be a shock. But I bet she won't.

Have they said that group of Lakisha, Jordin and Chris are the BOTTOM 3?? I find it impossible to believe Jordin would be in the bottom 3 after blowing it out last night.

OOPS... you posted before I did. Whew... so Jordin is not BOTTOM 3. (sigh) She is so fantastic and beautiful. She is my fav of all time. LOL

Thank you so much for the updating Jackie. Like I said before, I'm two hours behind you and since I don't have the patience to actually wait until they show who gets kicked off, you're the only way I can figure out what's going on. btw-I do this with AR and Survivor too. I really hope Jordin doesn't go home. Jordin and Melinda are my final two and I would buy either of their cds in a heartbeat.

Please, please, please don't let it be Jordin!!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone is going home. Their votes is what raised the money so the "shock" is that there is nobody going home! That's what I think anyway...

Ryan mentioned a "shock" last night and they couldn't have known who was being voted off, so I think it makes sense...

Shoulda been that Stutter lookalike

Orkmommy, man do I hope that you're right. Jordin leaving would be so WRONG!

Anonymous said...

orkmommy is correct once again! :D I'm so glad Jordin wasn't voted off!

Thank Goodness! Thanks for that ray of hope, Orkmommy.

I have a knack for guessing "shockers" on reality shows :)

It's a gift...and I'm glad I was able to share it with all of you!

I think charity is important, and it's nice that there was a vehicle for such a thing to occur. But this show was really tacky, IMHO. I felt like I was watching a mid-Sunday telethon.

The judges always talk about this being a singing show. I am not so sure any more (But at least the producers and sponsors can look at themselves a bit easier tomorrow morning in the mirror).

My heart almost stopped when he said Chris was safe which left Jordin. I truly wanted to cry when he said she was safe also. The good thing is that this didn't mean she was in the bottom 2, it was just the order in which he chose to do it.

Orkmommy, how did you guess that. No way did I see that coming. You are good!

The song with Celine and Elvis was awesome.

I'm with you, meb,I thought the Elvis and Celine thing was grest(and a little bit creepy, too). But it made me sad to think of how long Elvis has been gone and what an amazing career he would have had,had he lived!

In a way, that was a rotten thing to do,to not knock somebody off tonight. And they intentionally made it seem as if Jordin was the one going! Not nice, not nice at all! I hope next week we get some killer songs and killer performances. I guess Bon Jovi will be on,so who knows what they will come up with.

GO JORDIN....all the way to the end!!!!!

I didn't really care for this show at all. And, like Orkmommy, I guessed pretty early on that no one was going home. It just didn't seem that sending someone home would be the right thing to do on their big "telethon" night. Still, I was relieved when Jordin was safe.

The Elvis thing? That was creepy.

Good cause...lame show. Jump the shark lame. Wasted 2 hours of my life lame.

Well, OK, I did enjoy Kelly Clarkson and Annie Lenox. And Josh Groban and the African Children's Choir. Jack Black cracks me up. And after Jackie identified Jeff Beck, I googled him and the experience was therefore, I guess, educational.

Celine and Elvis scared me. Not impressed with random celebrity pop-ups. Had to mute "We are the World" wannabe song. Not happy with the "shocking" ending. NOT HAPPY! Jumped the shark for me, dawg.

p.s orkmommy, great prediction! Do you get future flashes like Desmond on Lost? Even if your psychic powers are limited to reality shows, you could still clean up in Vegas! Very cool!

p.p.s. Forgot to mention...

If I were producing the show, I would have had Chris Sligh out there singing with Jack Black. (And maybe Sanjaya with Celine and Elvis!)

AWESOME show tonight! The best episode of American Idol ever. M

What was the deal with Elvis? Hologram or lip syncing Elvis impersonator? Celine was great as always...

Annie lennox ruined "bridge over troubled waters" for me - how awful !! they should have gotten art garfunkel to sing it !!
I think the show was awesome - they should do it every year, i love the way ryan introduced the whole thing a few weeks ago - saying they all got rich from the show & they want to give back, that was great !!
I kind of liked the celine / elvis thing - it was kind of nice to see elvis perform again :)
orkmommy is my daughter, & she called me early in the show to tell me her prediction, & i agreed - the only thing more shocking than no one getting voted off, would have been jordin getting voted off !!
thanks, jackie, i love your writing !!

At least Ellen Degeneres told what she was giving. Some might say that is showboating, but I don't appreciate a bunch of rich celebs standing up there, telling everyone else to give money without ponying up themselves. I'm sure they do give, but if you're going to make a public plea on public TV, then go public with your donation too. Otherwise, really don't care about your celebrity-ness.

Just like them all going political. Why the heck do I care what Julia Roberts or Barbra Striesand think about any of it?

Boring, boring show.

I don't think it needed to be a two hour show. And the fact they had the youngest contestant last to be told and watching her cry was hard. I too thought it would be odd for them to vote someone out at the end of a feel good show. Next week will be interesting.

Anon 9:08 -- I totally agree! I wanted to know what everyone was giving. Randy, Simon, Paula, & Ryan were the ones backing this whole thing and they never mentioned their personal donation. And when they showed them with the poor children in Africa and here at home I kept thinking "SO...DO SOMETHING...YOU'RE STANDING RIGHT THERE AND YOU HAVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!"

Clementine -- Unfortunately my psychic reality show premonitions happen too late for me to bet on anything. I'll have to work on getting it to kick in earlier ;)

My personal opinion on the whole Idol Gives Back thing is that it should be just that - Idol should be doing the giving. With the kind of money that show is making, they should be opening hospitals, schools, building homes, etc. - with the help of all their millionaire celebrity friends. It just feels really weird to me to have a telethon going on in the middle of a competition. And what they did to poor Jordin was unforgiveable. Of course they left her for last just to drag out their "most shocking results ever" theme a little longer. I am getting progressively more disillusioned with AI.

It may all have been for a worthy cause, but the "most shocking elimination ever thing" was so bogus and a rip off of viewers. When I want to watch a telethon I'll watch a telethon. I agree with whoever said...what did the principals give...Simon dodged the question. This is a singing show...they should stick to the singing. To me it seemed more "look how great we are" than really all about the aids/poor victims.

I have the perfect way for Sanjaya to eke out every last second of his 15 minutes of fame...he can portray Stitch in the live action movie of "Lilo and Stitch." I SWEAR that boy looks just like Stitch when he smiles! :)
