'Survivor 14: Fiji' - Ep. 11 -or- "Snakes and Rats Run Amok in Mud"

Ah, the show is fresh once again. Of course, it's not too cool if you're named Alex or Mookie, but it's all in the game. Last week was one of the best episodes in years and this one wasn't too shabby, either. New and different challenges, too.

Eight are left. Who will be voted out tonight?

Picking up on the return to camp from the last Tribal Council, Mookie and Alex think Dreamz burnt them -- double-crossed their alliance. (And, yes... he did.) Meanwhile, the six are happy with the way their strategy worked at Tribal. Edgardo was totally blindsided, the hidden Immunity Idol of the "Four Horsemen" was brought out and wasted, and the opposing alliance lost a member. Life is good if you're on Earl and Yau-Man's side.

Stacy was the real shocker. For someone who had been toyed with by the Horsemen for their own purposes, yet was disposable to them, she's turned full force to the bigger alliance. She's really turned against Alex and Mookie. "They'll be lucky if they get fed."

In the morning of Day 28, Mookie and Alex were still down on Dreamz. When they talked to him, he gave some odd excuse although admitting he voted for Mookie. He played dumb saying that "we all got outwitted." Dreamz told them that he had no clue how the vote was going. He confused the two Horsemen and they weren't as mad, but the trust certainly isn't there. They seem to know it's them against the six.

The Reward Challenge saw the tribe split into teams of two once again. The split was random. On the Orange Team, there was Yau-Man, Boo, Cassandra, and Mookie. On the Green Team, it was Stacy, Dreamz, Earl, and Alex.

There was a big muddy field and two platforms with slingshot devices to fling balls. Stacy and Yau-Man were chosen to be the ball-slingers for their respective teams. Out in the field, the other members had a catching device with a basket. Each ball caught counted for the team who caught it no matter who slung it. (Are you following me?) The first team to catch five balls would win.
Survivor 14 Fiji - Muddy Reward Challenge
It got down and dirty... and way too muddy. People played dirty, but they were in mud, so it seemed fitting. At one point Boo went down and medics had to be called. The others heard something pop in his knee and we heard when he popped it again while putting weight on it. Well, the sound may have been edited in. Despite the injury, he kept on playing. He may regret that later as knees tend to blow up, but we'll see.

In the end, the green Team won. They chose to send Boo to Exile Island because he has been living pretty much the life of luxury since the start of the show. The winning team won a seaplane trip to a luxury spa with lots of Olay product placement. As they were showering with it, they kept repeating the brand name. And, gee... yes, they're a sponsor of the show. Go figure.

Alex thought he may have a chance to try to wiggle into the Alliance of Six, but his talk with Earl seemed to go nowhere. Earl was basically just evasive in the talk. Alex switched strategies and tried to get a clue whether he was the more immediate target. He planted the seed that Mookie was growing tired of the game. Earl just nodded and didn't really say much at all.

On Exile Island, Boo found the new clue for the re-hidden Immunity Idol. It said that the Idol was back on their beach, a singular tree, and in reach. His knee was hurting and he was dehydrated, so he was happy to rest knowing the Idol wasn't on Exile Island.
Survivor 14 Fiji - Dreamz
On Day 29, Mookie told Dreamz that he thought Yau-Man had the other hidden Immunity Idol. Then Mookie and Alex went to the camp and searched Yau-Man's bag. They found the Idol in it. Dreamz had no part in the search, nor did they tell him they were going to do it. After all, they don't trust him.

As Mookie and Alex were talking about how they were going to expose Yau-Man to his alliance at Tribal Council, then force either the use of the Idol or, at the very least, ruin Yau-Man's trust within his team... Cassandra and Stacy were eavesdropping on their conversation. I love it! While Alex and Mookie thought they were ruining Yau-Man, they were digging a deeper hole for themselves. You don't go through the personal belongings of others!

Mookie and Alex heard the girls and ran to confront Yau-Man. They told him that either he told his alliance or they would. Yau-Man told them to do whatever they felt they had to do, it wouldn't change anything. In confessional, he told us it would change his own personal strategy and may affect things down the line. But he feels safe with his alliance.

When Yau-Man reported the confrontation to his alliance, they all freaked out. No, not mad at Yau-Man. Although Earl was the only one who knew he had the Idol before this, the rest were mad that Mookie and Alex went into personal bags and they all seemed very protective of Yau-Man. It was as if Mookie and Alex had punched him or something. So, their little plan totally backfired and made the bonds of the Alliance of Six even stronger. Heh.

No one seemed upset that Yau-Man had the Idol or that he hadn't told them. In confessional, Dreamz thought it might be worth something down the road for flipping folks. But that can wait. He knows he's not a target right now. Yau-Man is a bit worried that Dreamz or Boo may flip, but not right now, either.
Survivor 14 Fiji - Immunity Challenge
The Immunity Challenge was a thinking one and not a puzzle (thankfully). Each tribe member was given a three-square (diagonally, horizontally, vertically) row on a grid. They knew their own, but no one else's. This photo shows the grid lighted up to show the audience Stacy's row.

Each one would give coordinates to "bomb." The game depended on memory and strategy. When all of a person's squares were eliminated, so were they. It came down to Stacy and Yau-Man at the end. Then it was Stacy alone -- the winner of individual Immunity. And, of course, a strong member of the Alliance of Six. Since she's been away from Lisi, I'm sure admiring her game a lot more.

Then Mookie and Alex knew one of them would have to be a goner. They tried the "Yau-Man can't be trusted card" but it fell on deaf ears. Boo thought that it might be possible that one of them had the second round of hidden Immunity Idol as the clue made it sound very easy to find. So, the Alliance of Six decided to split their vote -- half voting for Alex, the other half voting for Mookie. That way it would be a tie and either gone would be okay. Earl wasn't too thrilled about the split, but went with it.
Survivor 14 Fiji - Alex
At Tribal Council, Alex decided he'd talk about snakes and rats. But then Jeff called both him and Mookie about going through the private property of others when Mookie admitted to searching Yau-Man's pack. That's the snakiest and rattiest, according to Jeff.

The vote went down as planned with one flip... Alex betrayed Mookie to save his own butt in the game. Yes, he voted Mookie, thus tipping the scales. Mookie, knowing he was throwing a vote away, voted Boo and didn't betray Alex.

Mookie was voted out. He actually took it pretty well.

Oh, this is getting good.

Mookie and Alex had a perfect time to really throw the game in a different direction...and blew it! When Mookie found the idol in Yauman's bag...why oh why didn't he steal it????? It's survivor....out wit ...out last!! Since Earl was the only one that knew Yauman had the idol, if they had stolen it,that would leave 6 people that COULD have stolen it. No telling what that would have done to the Big Six!
As for Alex voting for Mookie...pure genius, still using his noodle. Poor Mookie, he's not going to like that Alex outwitted him. Can't wait to read y'alls comments on tonights show.
Thanks for all you do Jackie.

Excellent show tonight. Alex was smart to vote for Mookie, and it does now come down to the fact that he is the wild card with those 6 who are left. Some of them would be smart to go into an alliance with him because lets face it...once the 6 are left it just means getting rid of each other, one by one.

I still don't understand why they don't vote for the person who has the idol to go home, tell him he's being voted for, so he has to use it to save himself, and then they're all on the same playing field again. I said that all last season. Once you know someone has the idol, make them use it!!!!!

I thought the girls hiding and trying to listen to Mookie and Alex was classic. All I could see in my head was their camerman hiding with them and it just struck me funny.

I too wondered why Alex & Mookie didnt stoop low enough to actually steal the Idol. I mean they already crossed a line by going through someones personal belongings, why not steal as well. Maybe they arent as bad as we thought... Now, would be a good time for Alex to make new friends and form a seperate alliance within the big alliance. Ive always liked Alex since the beginning, but did not care for him so much in this episode. Just goes to show what a bad influence Mookie was on him, cuz with each nasty thing they did or talked about, it was Mookie who was coming up with it first and leading Alex on...

Finally this Survivor is getting to the good stuff... I cant wait to see how things will play out now. Hmmmmmm........ :)

Great show tonight! That is two in a row!! I love when things heat up, and it actually gets interesting.

I believe Mookie and Alex sunk to an all-time low when they searched Wow Man's bag. And then they think they are all cool, and running the game... Yikes!

Very strong strategic move on the part of Alex to vote for Mookie, and it paid off for the moment, but I imagine Mookie is not having kind thoughts toward Alex right now. He has to know how he was ousted. I had somewhat enjoyed Alex at the beginning of the game, but I am really not feeling him now.

Still want to see Earl or Wow Man take the whole thing. Much deserved for either of them! I can't wait for next week!

When Alex voted for Mookie... I was shocked. Question..."How did Alex know the vote would be split between the six?" 3-3? Who told Alex or was it a guess? BUT since Yau has the Idol and the new one was just placed and Boo went to Exile Island(only one clue)...how could A/M have had it hence the 3-3 vote. The could not have had it!!!

Steff, I know Rupert would have taken the idol. Alex and Mookie not the brightest bulbs!!!

Jackie...Thought the end of CSI was absurd and hysterical. How many suspects...how many near fatal injuries? Happy wasn't happy at the end. IMAO.

I agree, another good episode tonight.I was tickled pink that Alex and Mookie sat down to discuss their "outing" of Wow and right where the girls had been sitting and chatting. Man,those two can't pull off anything the right way! Classic looks when they realized they had been listened in on!!!

I also loved Wow's reaction when they confronted him and he said,"I'm okay with that and I'll just take my chances". He is such a cool dude and nothing seems to rattle him. He's also a very, very smart man! Way to go,Wow!

Loved the game of "Battleship" for the immunity challenge. I'm not sure how much was good picks or just dumb luck, but Stacy has sure stepped up her game! I was yelling at the screen,"anybody but Alex"!!!

I am hoping Alex gets the boot next time. I have not liked his superior attitude right from the get-go. He's believed he was clearly in control of everything, and it's good to see him taken down a notch by the others. And I disagree that Mookie was calling the shots,it was Alex all the way and I was not surprised that he turned on Mookie at the end. If he thought they were all going for Mookie,he probably thought that might buy him some cred with the others.Wow and Earl had better keep their eyes on Stacy, she may turn out to be a worthy opponent!

I totally agree with Sharon's comments. All of them. And Meb, I think they would be a little nervous about voting for Yauman and forcing him to use the idol because, if he uses it to save himself, then the person with the greatest number of votes would go. So even if all voted for Yauman, then whoever Yauman voted for would have to leave and no one would want to take that chance. That's one of the reasons the idol is so powerful. Have I got that right, commenters?

I also thought since they had bothered to search the bag, they should have just taken the idol. They "found" it...just in Yau's bag.

I like the way the 6 are thinking...they're not just going gut, they're strategizing, such as splitting the vote at tribal, just to be sure.

And Alex was smart too with his vote for Mookie...not a real politically correct/alliance building move, but it kept him there an extra week.

Maybe for once people will give up the "I'm BFF forever with someone I just me 30 days ago, even if it means giving up a million dollars mentality" and play the game! You're here to win a million, not "Miss Congeniality!"

I am rooting for Wow-man. Earl, and Cassandra! I still want Cassandra & Dreamz to have their revenge on Stacy for her earlier VERY POOR treatment of C and D! Will it happen? Stacey has become a more prominent player, but for how long? I agree with everyone - the last 2 shows have been FANTASTIC!
Question: Are the players allowed to steal the idol? And if they are wouldn't that lead to possibly forcibly removing it from someone???? I would agree to stealing but not taking it off of someone's person. Patty Q

Mookie and Alex were dumb, and not about the Yao-Man thing.

They were dumb for not figuring out who the majority of the alliance wants to get rid of after they get rid of Mookie and Alex.

Mookie and Alex should realize that Alliances should never accomplish their mission, because the first people off from the alliance should always be ready to jump ship because they will last longer.

For example, let's assume Earl/Yao-man are the leaders of this alliance. Let's say they want Boo and Dreamz out after Mookie and Alex are gone.

Mookie and Alex then should go up to Boo and Dreamz and say "If you just vote us off, you guys are the first to go from your alliance. If you switch over to us, you'll last longer (which is true)."

Mookie and Alex didn't try it and they are dumb for it.

Now Alex has to try it, but he needs to get more people to come over, which is a difficult task.

"
Steff, I know Rupert would have taken the idol."

Rupert is one of the worst players in Survivor history. He doesn't understand the game one bit. He doesn't lie, cheat, or even the simple stuff: make alliances, politick for votes, etc. He wouldn't have taken the idol.

Regarding stealing the idol from Yau..John Powell from Canoe Jam states "According to the rules, you cannot break the law playing Survivor. You can lie and cheat but you cannot steal. The producers would probably step in if you tried to do something of that nature. Rooting through someone's possessions isn't nice but it ain't against the law." So there you have it! It would have been interesting to see them try to take it.

Actually Anon-8:07... Rupert might have stolen the idol, since in his first go round on Survivor he stole the other teams shoes and bartered for supplies for his tribe in the very beginning of the game. As for the rules stating that a person cannot steal seems doubtful to me since Rupert did steal all those shoes and gave them to the locals for supplies.

Im just glad they didnt steal, it was something they didnt earn. Actually they didnt earn the right to get the 1st idol they found, but snuck behind Lisi's back and found it. But that was her own fault for blabbing the clues to them. Mookie and Alex are bottom feeders and both deserve to be gone soon.... Play fair...Win Fair!

I never mentioned Rupert in response to this show...don't get your panties in a wad. Since you brought him up I'll say this...I don't think he would have gone thru Yau's bag to steal it. Mookie and Alex had huge targets on their backs, they wanted to really stir things up, stealing the idol would have done that. Pity they weren't smart enough to realize that.

Brilliant Steff, hadn't thought of that.

You got it right Joy...

I found watching this repetitive cycle of Mookie and Alex gloating, then completely screwing it up, and with egg on their faces quickly thinking of the next plan, that then backfires, then blusing crimson as they go for the next cockamamie plot, etc resembled a"2 Stooges" skit. Speed it up, make it in grainy black and white and instead of sound put in a live piano player and THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

Anonymous said...

You said cockamamie! I haven't heard that one in YEARS!!!

I wonder if the distinction between Rupert taking the shoes is that they were just lying there on the ground, abandoned, in plain sight. One might stretch to make the arguement that they were discarded, therefore, not breaking a law by just picking them up?

But Mookie & Alex went into Yau's "home" and rooted through his personal possessions to find something that was hidden. Different scenario maybe?

Anonymous said...

If I remember correctly, the other team "dropped" their shoes off to Rupert. I don't know if they mistaked him for one of their teammates or just assummed (ass-u-me) since he was just sitting their babysitting stuff that he would babysit their stuff too. Nonetheless, dumb move on their part, and I think that's why Rupert didn't steal.
