Tonight's 'Amazing Race 12' East Coast Updates 11/25

Jackie's TV Blog, Amazing Race, TAR

Football ran into overtime and 60 Minutes started nearly an hour late. When The Amazing Race finally gets here, this post will be updated with the major events. A full review of the show will be posted over on TV Squad later tonight.

UPDATE 8:54 PM ET -- 60 Minutes just ended, the show will start soon. Finally.

The U-Turn was introduced. How it works is that it's after a Detour. A team can U-Turn another team to send them back to do the other choice on the Detour. There are two if I caught it right and a team can only use it once during the race.

Shana and Jennifer U-Turned Lorena and Jason thinking they were right behind them. However, the team in back of them was Rachel and TK. Lorena and Jason were already behind everyone else.

Pit Stop --
1. Hendekea and Azaria -- each won a motor scooter
2. Jennifer and Nathan on their heels.
3. Christina and Ronald
4. Nicolas and Donald
5. Vyxsin and Kynt
6. Shana and Jennifer
7. TK and Rachel
8. Lorena and Jason -- Philiminated

Thank you for carrying on, Jackie. No one would blame you if you hadn't.

Just in case, there are other Eagles (band) fans out there, they'll be coming up on 60 Minutes in an exclusive interview.

Thanks Jackie for updating TAR even though your are still grieving. Karen

Well, that was interesting. Shana uses the U-Turn thinking Jason and Lorena were right behind them when they weren't. It's too bad cause I liked Lorena and Jason more than I like Shana and Jennifer. At least Jennifer was against the idea.

Jennifer (with Nathan) acted like an idiot at the Pit Stop. Did she forget this is a competition? Why should Azaria and Hendekea "let" them go first? Sometimes blondes earn their reputation.

Vyxsin got to me with the crying. Those are terrible conditions for kids or anyone to live in. I took a moment to count my blessings. The USA ain't perfect, but we are so lucky compared to lots of other places.

I do wish Azaria and Hendekea would stop acting so "better than everyone else". It grates on my nerves.

All in all, it was another good episode, but I hope that Shana and Jennifer come in last next week. It's time for Karma to step up again.

I too, hope the blondes go next week. I know it's a game, but I just don't like them.

But, since I couldn't stand Lorena's crying last week "over spilt milk" (sorry, had to do it) I felt worse for the sister's who were eliminated last week because they helped Jason and Lorena with the camels. One of the sister's told Lorena to go to one who had a baby so she could get the rest of her milk. Then J&L end up beating the sisters out at the end.

It was J&L's time to go this week. I have to admit I liked him, but he definitely has no plans for marriage between the two, what with his free spirit speech. Not sure she feels the same way.

Papa takes a fall next week. That with his hernia can't be good.

Did I miss something about Azaria and Hendekea ... he keeps telling her to keep up and she keeps saying she's doing the best she can. Is she injured in some way?

Ratings wise, going up against Desperate Housewives didn't exactly help The Amazing Race but it was still healthy. According to Media Week's David Berman:

Amazing Race: 12.17 million viewers (3rd), A18-49: #4, 3.6/8
Desperate Housewives: 18.54 million viewers (2nd); A18-49: #2, 6.9/15

And just for comparison, Cold Case, which followed TAR:

Cold Case: 12.28 million viewers (3rd); A18-49: #3, 3.1/7

In terms of total viewers and percentage/rating in the vital 18-49 demographic, The Amazing Race beat Cold Case which it doesn't normally.

meb, I had remembered Lorena's crying jag last week but thought she had acted so much better this week, (less drama) so I kind of forgave her this week. Somehow, my selective memory had forgotten what happened at the end of the last episode with the sisters. I guess karma did visit. Just still hoping for the same results for S&J next time around.

I caught Jason's little speech, too, and wondered if Lorena felt the same way.

I recall Hendekea saying something about her "gimp leg" but she didn't seem serious. I can't remember anything happening to her. Truthfully, when Azaria said she was weak, I just thought he was being sexist.

Did you see that bus coming at Shana and Jennifer in the previews? I wonder if it hits them? Not that I want it to, but it sure looked like it was going to.

I like the football delays, it means I can actually watch the show in peace! The little one doesn't go to bed until at least 8:30, so an 8 p.m. show is hard for me to catch!

The blondes annoy the heck out of me (and I was a HUGE Dustin and Candace fan - they do not compare in any way except for their hair color), but I don't frown on their use of the U-Turn. I just don't understand why one of the earlier teams didn't use it? You never know how much farther or how many more tasks you have in a leg before an elimination and it seems that any way that you can handicap your competition would be good to do! It's a game and the U-Turn is a strategy that is part of the game (unlike cab-stealing or down right being mean or rude). Use it!

I think the earlier teams didn't want to use it because they knew they probably weren't in much danger of coming in last. In which case, using it may cause hard feelings that might come back to haunt them, i.e. no one wanting to help them, or using the other U-turn that's out there to get them back in the future. That, plus the fact, that on just about every episode, they all catch up to each other and lose their leads at an airport or at a gate waiting for something to open up so they can continue the game. In that case, what have they gained? Hard feelings from whomever they U-turned and the friends those who were U-turned have made. I can see why Shana & Jennifer used it, but I think the others were smart not to.

I couldn't believe it when Jennifer made such an assinine comment about A&H letting them have first place! If she really wanted first place, she should have ran a little faster. What sense of accomplishment do you get if somebody just hands the prize to you? I think A&H did the right thing. They earned first place and they took it.

I was actually liking Lorena and Jason last night. They were very sweet with each other. They might have grown on me if they stuck around longer. It would have been smart of the blonds to use the U-turn if they had used it on the right team, LOL. I guess they don't all know eachother too well yet.

AARRRGG,I don't like these blonds! And it must go with the territory with these blonds, because then Jennifer made an ass of herself at the pit stop! What nerve! Not that I like the first place team all that much,he is insufferable! How much taller is he than his sister, thus longer legs that take wider steps. Does he even have a clue how hard that is to keep up with? He,too, acts like an ass at times. Besides,it makes for a boring race to have one team come in first every single week.

I was touched by Vyxsin's crying. It truly shows not to judge a book by it's cover! I learned long ago, with my two boys, that it doesn't matter much what they wear, how long their hair is or how weird you think the things they do,as long as they are good hearted, obey your rules and treat other people with respect, that just doesn't merit sweating the small stuff. The two "Goths" are good people and they seem to be getting so much from this trip. I wish they could win it all.

meb said...

I guess we can be thankful that the blondes used up their u-turn option now, so if they stay longer in the game (and I hope they don't) but if they do, they can't use that again the next time it's available and maybe that's what will come back to bite them you know where.

And yes...the brother/sister aren't my favorite either. The Goth couple are my choice for the moment. As they say, you can't judge a book by its cover.

Meb -- The goths are my faves for the moment as well. I VERY much dislike at least one half of the blondes, and that's just from seeing only this one episode (I was gone for the previous ones). Enough that I wouldn't mind seeing them go.

Anyone know what's up with the one woman (paired with a man) who keeps kind of tooting their horn very much for each decision they make or action they take as if it will help the viewers to appreciate them... It seems so obvious she is trying to manipulate our opinion of her motivations. Anyone know who I mean from that description? That's irritating to watch.

And I agree about the one who was whining about coming in second... couldn't believe she was running to the mat and trying to convince the couple who beat them to let her team get first place! I didn't think it was strategy to get ahead but something she thought was rational to ask for. Uh, NOT. Is this team the same as I was asking about?

meb said...

To be honest Sydney,I'm not too sure who's who yet either. I know the brother/sister team who came in first last night do have a tendency to act like they are better than anybody else in the race.

There are two Jennifers and you may mean the one with Nathan who came in second. She's a little much sometimes.

joy n... I did see the previews where the bus is coming at Shana and Jennifer. They must be stalled or something. The bus is coming to a screeching halt, so if it hits, it'll probably barely touch them. Scare the crap out of them I bet.

And right Jennifer(Nathan), the group in front of you are going to give you first place cause they've gotten it before. Unhuh! Right... Did you forget this is a RACE... How dumb was that!

nana in the nw, I hope you got to see that CANE episode from last week. I hoped what info I gave you helped you out. I had a very hectic week here with the kids and grandkids for the holiday, (and loved every minute of it) but it didn't leave me much time for anything else.

I had heard there were thirteen episodes of this show made and this will be the ninth. I had also heard the producers ordered four more episodes to be done for this season, but that was before the writer's strike. Of course, they may have already had the scripts ready before the strike. If you hear any news on the subject, let me know. I'm in seventh heaven with this series.

nana in the nw, I was wrong, this is the tenth episode tonight.

Joy N, according to TVGuide.com there are 2 episodes of Cane left to air. The air dates list 12/11 for both episodes - that's probably a typo. They probably meant 12/4 & 12/11. I really like Cane too!

joy n said...

Gayle, glad to know there's another CANE fan out there.

I guess you can't always count on what you read.

There was no preview shots for an episode next week, so maybe that wasn't a typo after all.

Arrrrgh! We'll have to wait two weeks to watch again. But then again, I'll love having two hours to enjoy on the 11th.

I taped this episode to watch the finale of DWTS. But then, I've taped all the episodes so far. I love this show!

Joy N, welcome to the taping club! I tape all of my shows too. I'm usually distracted by something (cooking, telephone call or a neighbor knocking at the door) and miss crucial parts so I just tape them and don't worry about unexpected distractions and watch them at my leisure!

joy n said...

Gayle, I tape for the exact same reasons you mentioned plus one. My husband. He watches something else and drives me crazy during the breaks. So taping means I can go back and enjoy every minute. I know where you're coming from.
