OFF TOPIC: Roofus on the Flip Side

I'm awaiting my latest BB9 live feeds post to go up over at TV Squad. It's been kind of boring in the house today. The big news there is they now have outside toys. Woohoo.

If you click on the image below, it should go larger. This is the back of the buildings where I catch Roofus the cat in the front. I was right about him going to the old ex-car rental place where the elderly man feeds the feral cats. Today I caught him going down the lower roofs to the car tops, then the ground.

Jackie, when you know that Roofus is more interesting to us than BB, you know that things have gotten really bad on the show!

Is there any way the Roofus could win the money? Now that would be terrific!

Heh. Roofus for the win!

Well, that makes three jury votes for Roofus! Thanks for showing us the other side of the building. He really is a 'trooper'. Hang in there Roofus! We want to see you on the blog for a long, long time to come.

Make that 4 and Roofus can throw a party for all his fellow friends. Thank you for the update, Jackie!

Roofus has almost made it to better weather. Bless the gentleman that looks out for these homeless ones.

Make it four votes for Roofus! Jackie, how long have you been photographing him?

Jackie, one more question. Can you get any information on the elderly gentleman? Like a snail address. I think it would be something if those who could afford it would send $5 to him. It would blow his mind to realize that people all across America are aware of his kindness.

When our dog Maggie went into liver failure and the vet bills climbed sky high, my vets began receiving checks from my Beagle Buddies across America to help out with Maggie's bill. My buddies knew if they sent the money to me I would not accept it. So they put things I had said in the past together and found out the correct vet. The bill was so high that Maggie now has an exam room named after her. My vets were blown away, they had never had something like that happen. I told them it wasn't unusual for us to help out when one of the fur babies were ill and bills were high.

Becky, your post brought me to tears. I love hearing about the kindness of people and virtual friends (familes) are just the best. Thanks for sharing that with all of us.

I like the idea of helping with the feeding of Roofus and the other feral cats. I totally believe in caring for and adopting those who have no homes. My fur babies are both rescues and they are the best!

Laurie, I love your name! Hummm, think because it is my daughter's name also. She was born in 1961 and the name wasn't popular. The only time I had heard the name was Piper Laurie, Peter Laurie (but didn't he spell his name differently) and the male character in Little Women. Which is where I chose mine from.... could be the continuation of a family tradition. I was named after Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.

I was watching some clips on youtube. James was in the red robe of Chelsia's. I must say the first thing that came to my mind was he looks like "Little Red Riding Hood".

I guess that must mean the rest of them are the "Big Bad Wolves".

Good night!

becky--- that is a great story. I love that you guys are all animal peepers. I feel less insane to be such a mess about Clooney's untimely passing.

I have tons of vet stories and tons of money went to save my "beebies." Okay that word is becoming addicting to me.

Fats-- big ole black cat with Garfield attitude got bit by some tick, almost died and had to have a blood transfusion. I lost count how many cat fights he'd get into with "Kitty" next door and the bite would abcess.

Emma-- lost her hind right leg to some SOB shooting her, and shattering her hip. We don't live in the sticks kids. I cried for them to save her leg, but she is a happy albeit has cat attitude 11 year old gray mut kitty.

And then our neighbors as I tell Emma as she hisses at the boys who come by... Mama, Jack, Gandalph, PC, and Mr. Bo Jangles (he has a collar with tags and a bell) they all get fed by me.

Donna-- did you make the list yourself of all us bloggers, or did you make a place to go, because I didn't see it!

Since the geek in pink is going, I vote for Roofus to win. That's a lot of tuna cans.

Add my vote for Roofus to win. Jackie, he looks like he turned around to pose for you. Hope they don't condemn that building. None of us would want to lose sight of him. He does look like he survived the winter well with probably much help from the old guy. Thanks for keeping tabs on him when you can. He's sort of become our community pet. Really love seeing the pix.

Speaking of cats, I copied this 2 days ago to send to my girls - Jackie, you'll pull this if I'm breaking the rules?

NEW YORK (AP) -- When a construction crane collapsed, wrecking a Manhattan brownstone and killing a woman inside, there was scant hope any life would emerge from the rubble. Six other people died. But somehow, two cats survived.

Mr. Gloves was found the day of the collapse, huddled near a church door and coated in brick dust; Gooksie turned up 10 days later in an old coal chute under a nearby brownstone.

The creatures, whose owners, Jean Squeri and Kerry Walker, lived on the top floor of the demolished building, are now staying with the couple in the apartment of Squeri's son.

''It's a miracle,'' said Gini Otway, a neighbor who led the search for the animals.

Otway lived two buildings away from the town house, not far from the United Nations, that was reduced to rubble March 15.

A towering crane at a construction site a block away came crashing down, hitting the top of a high-rise, then somersaulting across a block and demolishing the home.

Later that afternoon, Otway's doorbell rang.

A neighbor who knew she was a volunteer for the animal rescue group City Critters reported that she had spotted a black-and-white cat at a nearby church. Otway grabbed a carrying case and went down to see the young tuxedo cat.

''When I picked him up, he was rigid, totally traumatized,'' she said. ''He must have been just blown out of the building. It was like picking up a piece of wood.''

She took the animal to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where it had to be tranquilized before a veterinarian could examine it.

Otway suspected the cat belonged to Squeri and Walker, who she had heard owned two tuxedo cats -- the 8-month-old male, Mr. Gloves, and a 6-year-old female, Gooksie.

After calls to neighbors and friends, Otway learned that the couple were alive; they had been out of the house at the time.

They picked up Mr. Gloves at the ASPCA the next day. ''It was tears all over,'' Otway said.

But Gooksie was still missing.

Otway asked everyone in the neighborhood whether they had seen the cat, including firefighters and police on 24-hour duty at the scene. She put up posters with an image of a black-and-white cat.

Ten days later, a woman who lives in a nearby brownstone was sorting through belongings stored in the coal chute when she noticed something scooting by.

''I peered under a work table, and I saw some eyes starting back at me,'' said Joy Brown.

Otway was again summoned, and feeling fairly certain it was Gooksie, she called the couple's son, John Viscardi. When he arrived, both he and Otway started crying.

Squeri and Walker are still too traumatized to talk about the experience, Viscardi said.

Otway said the 74-year-old Squeri was on her way to a drugstore when she saw the building owned by her family for 80 years disappear in a cloud of smoke and dust.

Amid the destruction, neighbors involved in the rescue have been heartened by the story of the rescued cats.

''It was all so horrendous, and yet, people were concerned and united to try to find these cats they didn't even know -- policemen, firefighters, neighbors, the Red Cross,'' Otway said. ''As St. Paul said, this is about how to overcome evil with good.''

Besides, with my Roofus Too picture I found, I had to post on this topic about Roofus.

joyn, if you don't like my name for my little beebie, you could rename him/her for me. He just looks like a little beebie Roofus tho doesn't he?

That would be great to be able to contribute to the guy who's feeding the cats. Jackie, you could take a picture of him and post it too. It woud be a great human interest story as well. You could notify the newspapers, have them cover it, get your name out there so more and more people would join "our" blog. You'd have the biggest blog out there (cause it's already the best)! And, you'd be more famous! Well, it's true.

PLEASE continue to keep us updated on Roofus! THANK YOU so much for keeping us aware of his where-abouts!!

I'm not sure I can get an address. The ex-car rental place has the "Budget" painted out and I don't recall seeing a number on the building. I haven't seen the man himself in a while. But I'll see what I can do.

Becky, I love my name, too. I grew up in the during the fifties and sixties and never knew anyone with my name until I was an adult. I always had to tell people "yes it's my real name, and no it's isn't short for anything else." I still have to correct people when they call me Laura.

I'm glad to know your daughter shares my name and bet she fights the same battles! Yes, it was Peter Lorre. Oh yeah, that's the other battle, having people spell my name wrong. At 60, I have finally quit correcting people unless they are part of my life.

My daughter's middle name is Anne after Anne of Green Gables. What a literary group we are!

I am so glad for the Roofus update! Every day I wonder if Jackie will have an update on his whereabouts and how "he" is faring.I,too, would love to send the old gentleman some money to help with feeding those furry babies out on the streets. Will watch for any info you can find,Jackie.

Speaking of names,I hated mine when I went to school. I never knew another Sharon until I was in high school and I thought it a very uncool, old fashion name. I was named after another little girl my parents knew in Texas before I was born, and they liked the name, soooooo. Still don't think it a very popular name, and only famous ones I know are Sharon Tate(that poor girl)and Sharon Stone, and her,I don't like. But I like the name Laurie, and loved Little Womane when I was growing up. One of my favorites to this day. I love name stories! My brother named my little sister. When she was born,he was in love with Eve Arden on "Our Miss Brooks" and so he wanted to name her "Miss Connie" after her. My Mom asked him if it was okay to call her Connie Sue and drop the "Miss" and he said okay.

Great photo Jackie! Roofus is our official blog mascot. :) How is your Scherzo (sp?) doing?

I loved all your cat stories here. Now I know why we are such a cool group, we're all animal lovers.

Thank you for keeping us updated on Roofus. I work with cats and there are so many people that I know who give up their lives to help care for cats both strays and ferrels. I have four and I love them dearly. They rule my world and my house. I have an almost 11-year old cat named Scarlett (I adopted her from a shelter)and she is such a diva. She has a favorite chair she loves to sleep on. If anyone else sits on her seat, she circles the chair until we get up. She then immediately gets on it and falls asleep. When she is in a bad mood, she does not want any of our other three cats anywhere near her. If they come near her, she chases them away. She is my little diva, and I would not have her any other way.
