Yet, it is Sunday morning, time for my weekly off television topic reflection of the week gone by in both words and photographs I've taken along the way.
Um. Well. I don't have all that much of either words or photos this week. I took a week of vacation time in hopes to ease the sciatica pain I've had for nearly a month. While it's not really gone entirely, the week has definitely helped. But I didn't DO ANYTHING this week! I lazed about my apartment, walked to the local bodega a couple of times, read, watched television and did NOTHING. I slept a lot. I'm well-rested.
I guess it's onto the photos, few that there are, for this week along with a new photo endeavor. Vincent the Cat fans should like this post!
A little cooperation please |
Sheesh. Why don't you just turn your back on me? The squirrels are loving the recent lack of snow cover as they continue to find acorns on the local church lawn.
Vincent is having a ball |
Well, he has been since I've been pretty much just here inside with him all week! It was "Dress Up Your Pet Day" and the only outfit I have his size is his Santa suit and I don't know where I put it. So, I put one of his balls on him. (Insert tasteless neutered joke here.)

Is it spring? Is it spring? |
Huh. This rhododendron bush on Berckman Street in Plainfield looks like it wants to bloom! I've never noticed before if this is its normal winter state. While we've had some warm temperatures at times so far this winter, we've had bitter cold and snow, too. I've seen a few years that the weather actually fooled plant life, but I don't see any others looking springish.
Saturday surprise snow |
This wasn't forecast for yesterday. Yet it happened. All of a sudden the skies got dark and snow started coming down. I even heard one roll of thunder as the storm passed through. I took this shot out my window. I stayed in all day.
Claws of Death |
In this case, flinging a catnip mouse around isn't quite as much fun as the real thing. But Vincent will make do with it. I really need to trim his claws.
Things are looking up! |
Unfortunately, that's all the current photos I have for you this week. However, I've started a rather new photo project on my Photobucket website. I've always been attracted to black and white photos of New York City. Most of the ones I see are older. I decided to take some of my rather everyday photos and give them a black and white edit. Here are a few of them --
Couples |
I hope they checked the bench before they sat down.
Gates |
8th and 42nd |
Note the "Peep Show" sign near the middle. Yep, they do still exist despite the Disney Days of today. But, unlike decades ago, they're fewer and far between.
Outside Port Authority Bus Terminal |
The crowds outside the terminal are quite an eclectic mix. You have guys like this probably passing through, regular street hustlers and bums, folks from places like Kansas gawking at the skyscrapers surrounding the terminal, commuting crowds just coming and going, ladies in mink, men in mink ... you name it. It's a great place to people watch.
TV ads at subway entrances |
Like there isn't enough street theater in the area.
Everybody's going somewhere |
And, one is even being taken away by ambulance.

Great Photos. I especially like the black and white NYC photos. "The Gates" is my favorite. It almost looks industrial with all the conduit.
Glad to hear your Sciatica is improving.
I know Vincent was happy to have a playmate all week.
As far as TV I am enjoying the new season of Psych on USA. It is one of the few comedy shows I watch.
I forgot to say I may be off the computer for a couple of days. I am having Cataract surgery in the morning. I plan to have the 2nd eye done as soon as it is possible.
I am so excited that I will be able to see clearly again.
I will only have to wear reading glasses when we finish. I can't believe it since I have had to wear thick lens glasses since I was 14 years old.
The miracle of modern medicine! LOL
I had to enlarge the "peep show" photo in order to see the sign. So important, you know.
Good to see handsome Vincent with and without his balls. Ahem.
I'm quite struck with just how busy the peep show picture is. I keep looking at it and seeing more and more stuff in that small space. It reminds me of places I remember from downtown LA when I was a kid. Good memories, actually, but I never liked the city. Too much noise and too many people. I'm guessing I would feel that way about NYC, too.
Thanks for sharing your world with us and hope your restful week did some good for you!
