The weather this week was almost early summer-like from Thursday through yesterday. It was all capped off with a very vivid and violent thunderstorm last night. And, yes, it's February. Global warming? I don't know. Unless something changes a lot in the next few days, it should be declared the warmest February on record for this area. While I personally enjoyed the warmer temperatures, it's probably not good for nature overall. It's back to seasonal today. However, nature might have already fallen for the ruse of warmer temperatures. Spring growth seems to want to burst through and a gazillion geese are heading north. I saw a mosquito yesterday.
As for me myself, I'm not doing all that well. I went to the hospital for some tests needed to proceed with the vascular surgery. It was a glorious day in Somerville. In normal circumstance, I'd roam the town I don't go to much and take photographs. Instead, all I want to do is be home elevating my legs to ease the pain. I'm not sleeping well, either. Overall, I just don't feel well at all. My blood pressure is high and has never been high before and more. I'm gaining weight because walking hurts so much. Gah. But, mind you, the knee replacements are both doing well. People keep asking if my knees are feeling any better. It's not the knees. It's the rest of me!
I also seem to have shrunk two inches from my normal height somehow. It's been years since anyone measured my height and I'm two inches shorter! That's just weird. Perhaps a combination of the knee replacements and poor posture due to pain? Age? I don't know.
Enough woe is me ...
Onto the photos I took this past week -- clicking on an image will open it in a larger version.
Wheels |
I was once again at the Somerville Train Station on Friday. This is another shot of the train wheels/smoke-stack sculpture.
Early morning on North Avenue |
On Friday, I took my old regular train to work at 6:40am -- the train I took for several years before work decided to mess with my schedule. (Yes, I'm still ticked about that. I HATE getting home at 7pm!) I took this shot looking towards the north over North Avenue from Track One of the Plainfield Train Station a few minutes before the actual sunrise.
Bird on a wire |
Not quite like a cat on a hot tin roof.

Fenced beauty |
Thursday's sunset as seen through the fence at the Bridgewater Train Station. I ended up getting closer to the fence and shooting through it. But I also like this shot.
Must be time to eat! |
The Field of Geese at the Bridgewater Train Station is living up to the name I bestowed upon it. With little to no snow cover all winter, it's popular with Canada Geese throughout the area. Many stayed for the winter; others are just passing through.
Pretty sunset skies |
Taken at the Bridgewater Train Station on Thursday.
Sunset at Bridgewater |
I shot a lot of photos of the sunset that day -- Thursday.
Stunning scenery |
The train from Bridgewater to Somerville boasts lots of abandoned factories and graffiti. But it was indeed a beautiful day out there on Friday! I took this shot from the train window.
Sigh |
I don't like hospitals. No offense to those who work in hospitals, but I really don't like them. I took this shot on Friday as I sat in the waiting room for them to call me to take the tests needed on my legs. To add insult to injury, the television was set to the FOX News station. I don't ever watch that. The only FOX News show I watch is Good Day New York with Greg Kelly, Rosanna Scotto and Mike Woods (voted Most Sexy Anchorman in the USA by Buzzfeed). That's more entertainment than news, per se.
Geese and more geese |
The early morning skies have been chock-full of geese and their resulting cacophony of honks. On Friday morning, within the space of fifteen minutes, I saw at least five huge Vs of geese flying north. I'm thinking at least a few hundred geese, maybe around five hundred. That's a whole lotta honking going on!
Early Thursday evening in Plainfield |
The temperatures hit the mid-70s on both Friday and Saturday ... in February! Today, it's back to winter. But it's not all that bad. The highs will be in the 40s. We're not talking snow, ice or sub-freezing temps. I can take that. I wouldn't mind spring, though. Not at all.
NJ Transit Police |
Three NJ Transit cops in two vehicles at the Plainfield Train Station yesterday morning. Yet they let Wheelchair Dude and his buddy remain taking up one of the platform shelters with a bench while passengers ready to actually take the train stood. If they came about more often or with any sort of regularity, they would realize that Wheelchair Dude practically lives at the station and attracts a drug and alcohol bunch 24/7. Regular patrols are needed at the station. The riff-raff is way out of control once again.
Showing his cattitude |
Vincent absolutely would not cooperate this week each time I tried to photograph him. So, this is a shot I took a while back.

My fave is the bird on a wire. I still have your dove on a barbed wire image on a tshirt (it's too small, wish I could get it larger).
Wheels is amazing, too.
You are so talented, Ms J.
Love the sunsets! I do hope you get the relief you need for your knees.
Somerville has done a great deal to revitalize in a good and interesting way. Their new restaurants are great; the art is interesting; it is a place you want to visit......why do we not have this imagination alive in Plainfield? I know we have the talent.....
I am a week behind here. Your photos are amazing. You do great work with your camera. Beautiful shots here.
I hope you have some relief by now.
I'm on to today's post.
