'Big Brother 8' - Season Premiere and East Coast Spoilers

Jackie's TV Blog, BB8, Big Brother 8

Although I'm not so keen on such a young cast, I think we have a lot of promise here.

I'm still getting the names straight, but here's a brief lowdown on the happenings...

Only eleven people entered the house first. Carol, Joe, Mike, and Amber went in as the first group to choose beds. Then it was Nick, Daniele, and Jameka. Then Kail, Jen, Eric, and Zach.

Notably missing were Dick, Dustin, and Jessica. Now we knew Daniele is Dick'c estranged daughter. I had guessed it right that Dustin and Joe are a "pair." They're ex-boyfriends with a horrible break-up in their past. Jessica and Carol are high school friends turned rivals.

The three were hidden away upstairs, able to watch the eleven's every move from the HOH room. They were brought down after the HOH competition, but Julie told the larger group about them with no specifics. All three are safe from eviction this week.

Once Julie told them about the "unfinished business, enemies, rivals, the last person you want to be with" bit, Joe immediately guessed Dustin and blamed him for a bout with an STD. Meanwhile Dustin was upstairs denying it was true to Dick and Jessica. A few who don't have the "enemy" in the house were imagining enemies. Daniele told the Diary Room she thought it would be her father, but didn't tell the Eleven. Carol couldn't think of anyone since junior high or high school.

The beds are too short, too tall, and simply not enough. Some will have to share beds.

The HOH comp was neat -- the Eleven had to pair up, leaving Nick unable to take part in the competition. One had to kneel on a spinning mushroom while the other answered questions about the houseguests. The questions were ones posed to them before entering the house, things like "would you give up your bus seat to a pregnant woman?" They only give True or False to a number of how many said they wouldn't, not specifically who may or may not. Every wrong answer made the mushroom spin faster and muck would spurt on on them occasionally.

In the end, Kail and Eric won. Julie let the three upstairs decide which of the two would be HOH. They chose Kail as she was the one to endure the spinning and muck. Eric didn't want to win the first HOH anyway, so he was very happy. He wanted to throw the comp but kept accidentally answering the questions right.

When the three were brought down to the eleven... Joe went from good-going to miserable and nasty. Daniele went to the bathroom and cried. Carol and Jessica seemed to just stare at each other.

Eric is our America's Player. Starting Sunday, we can be the puppetmasters! I knew it couldn't be anyone tied to another in the house and I think he's a good choice. He's a big fan of the show and seems to fit in fine... for now.

I have to see what's wrong with my RealPlayer feeds... today of all days, they've gone awry. The feeds start tonight!

Your impression of the season premiere?

ooh...I'm so excited, and I'm glad Eric is America's player -- he seems to be one of the least narcissitic of them all. I'm feeling bad for Dick, and am hoping Jen (she's the one with the dark hair, right?) goes away soon. ~SharonS

Joe is too over the top for me! I thought Marcellas was flamboyhant, but Joe takes the cake!!

I already don't like Evil Dick. Why would a grown man call himself that? I hope he turns out to be a nice guy because I'd like to root for the older people. Kail doesn't seem like my type of folk, so that leaves Dick. Did anyone else notice how Kail mentioned being a "multiple business owner" several times? Get over yourself already!

Glad Eric is our player. He seems like a fun, goofy person!

Yes, Joe is already on my nerves. IF he did really catch an STD from Dustin, why in the world would he announce it on national TV? I think we know which of the two must have the most sense. Also, I'm thinking of signing up for Showtime after hearing about Big Brother After Dark; I'd love to see that and it's EVERY night!!!

This should be interesting with Eric as AP. Hope we get to direct him in the direction we want him to go. I am not sure about Dick, but think he will be a character in the house. Joe needs to GO, I do not think I can stand him, Marcellas was fun.

I would have taken the round bed. I do not care for the house decor, hope it grows on me. If patterned after Alice in Wonderland, we can name guests after those characters: Mad Hatter-Queen of Hearts-Chestershire(?)Cat, etc. IMAO

Here we go friends...it is on!!!

I can hardly wait to see it, I'm on the west coast.

I think it would have been great to make the HOH be the America's Player...that way they cannot get in their and do what they want but what WE want muahahahah!

Thanks so much for this forum, Jackie! I've been reading for a while and enjoy everyone's take on things.

I think that Dick is going to be a royal pain. He seems to be the kind of guy that never grew up and then blames the world for his problems. I felt so bad for Danielle because of him. I think it is way too early for a favorite yet, though tonight I was rooting for Danielle. -- Lucy

First impressions? I didn't like Jen,Danielle, and most of all....JOE!! And then when we met the other three,I didn't care for Jessica. I kind of liked Carol before we met the three others.Of the two of the "enemies",I tend to like Dick,Dustin and Carol. If I have to hear JEN talk through her nose for very long,I will scream. She should have bought herself a nose job instead of the "enormous boobs",as somebody called them...lol.Now,I loved Marcellas, and my brother is gay,but JOE is so gay it's not funny AND he's a Bit#*,as well. That thing about the STD....tacky! Evil Dick may live up to his name, but think he may be hoping to mend some fences. I'm not overly fond of KAIL,she's real stuck on herself and her "success".I like ERIC(my son's name) and I think this may be fun. Let's do it!!

Joe is not for me and neither is Jen. This is my first year with the live feeds and I am looking forward to it.

Thanks Jackie for all you do.

I have to agree with Sharon S. The girl with the long dark hair has to go soon. She is most annoying as every other word out of mouth is "like". Is she from California by chance? I also think Joe has to go. He needs all eyes on him. He needs to be the center of attention. I just don't like him. I also don't like Daniele's father. I don't care if he is estranged from her. He says bad things about her. I am estranged from my father but my sister told me that he never says a bad word about me. That's how Daniele's father should be. I don't blame her for not talking to him for the past 2 years if this is how he is in real life. He has to go also.

Now my big question. Did I turn my head and miss something? How did Eric become America's player? Was it pre-determined before they entered the house? Was there a competition or was it because he was the other half of the HOH comp team that won? He WAS part of that team or am I delusional LOL. Would love some answers to this one!q

I like Eric. I liked Kail until she mentioned for the 80th time how succsessful she is. -Jessiesgirl

First and foremost... so excited to return to your blog Jackie... you did such a fabulous job last year!

My thoughts of this season... well, definitely different from BB-Allstars (which was the 1st season I had watched since season 1), but I am excited to see the catfights and backstabbing that might occur... and how the "frenemies" will react to each other over the weeks. Seems like a promising semi-entertaining cast.

Maybe Will can make an appearence at a HOH competition or something. hee hee

I'm not liking Joe either and have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of his dark side in months to come. Kail and Jen both seem full of themselves. There must be more to it than a $5.00 IOU, but Jessica is already getting an airhead nod from me. NICK IS CUTE!!!! I'm also liking Eric as AP. Thinking they picked the right guy. Hope that somehow, Dick and Danielle work out their differences and not just for an alliance. Mike, Amber, Zach and Jameka, will have to reserve any opinions on until next time. They seem okay so far. Dustin, I have a feeling will have his own side of the story to tell as the weeks roll by. Can't wait!!!

All righty then...
Missing Will already!!!
I Don't Like
Joe hopes he goes soon, Carol as well, Amber seems alright and Hope Jamala or however you spell it stays for awhile. Dick seems like an intresting character and I hope He and his daughter can get over the past. don't have much on the others but I hope it gets a little juicy thinking of getting Showtime 2 would had been nice to had like that last year!!!Jackie's thanks again for all you do you got me stuck like chuck on your blog last year keep it comin girl.......,

Dick is such a jerk. He was putting his daughter down and happy that she lost the competition. What a loser.

Anonymous said...

A little too much eye candy. It would be nice to have a bit more "real" people on the show. And a bit older. Some people that maybe have a bit a wisdom and a bit of brains.

Anonymous said...

Hi Guys! I like Carol, and Jameka(?). I also like the single mom from Vegas, but can't remember her name. The blonde who is the rival of Carol, seems as though she is the whiny sort. Five dollars, from six or seven years ago, come on! And the real estate agent? Who really gives a rats tail about how many business she has. And to say she owned the whole town. Get over it, woman. She has to go. So does Joe. Not a Marcy, that's for sure. Hope that Dick and his daughter work things out and not just for the show. Am looking forward to the next few months. Thanks so much for this place. Gen

i agree with anonymous, too much skin, & too little brains - i was hoping to see a more diverse age group, as i think it makes it more interesting - young female airheads have such a wierd way of looking at things, & i just end up wanting to slap them !!

barb

i like eric, he was a good pic for america's player, no matter how they picked him.

I agree about marcellas, he was a bit flamboyant, but he had a personality, & sense of humor - almost like he was laughing at himself sometimes - these 2 jerks are just caricatures of gay men

evil dick - i can think of some other nick names for him - can you ?? _____ dick, or ______ dick, etc

jackie, thank you so much for this blog - it makes BB so much more fun to watch !!

I am so mad! I missed it. We had just gotten back from vacation and I forgot to DVR it. Does anyone know if they are going to show the premiere again or if there is a place I can go to rewatch it?

Please someone? Anyone?

Anonymous said...

Does our America's player remind anyone of Rob Cesternino on Survivor Amazon? I loved him--I enjoy watching a smart, funny person who has a strategy and is knowledgable about people.

Looks like a good season, although I dislike the beginning before I get to know anyone and can't keep them all straight.....

Anonymous said...

I don't love or hate anybody yet, it's just too soon. I guess at this early stage I'm rooting for Eric only because he is our guy, sort of. My favorite line so far was something along the lines of "the bitch owes me 5.oo bucks"! Too funny that that is one of her chief complaints about her ex-friend.

I'm kind of glad there aren't any older folks (37 ain't old people) cuz I'm so tired of the inevitable Young Vs Not Young dynamic. I predict this season it will be the other inevitable Men Vs Women dynamic. Looks like an interesting group this year, I like the fairy tale look of the place. So here's to season 8, may it be memorable!

Hello Fellow BB Fans
Enjoyed the show tonight but I'm always disappointed that CBS doesn't allow more time for the first night. It is hard to get to know the house guests in one hour.

My first impressions are few but here they are:

Kail made a statement about being upset if one of her children "chose" a gay lifestyle which rubbed me the wrong way. First of all one does not "choose" to be gay. Second, a mother should love their children unconditonally. Another strike against her is her constant reminders about her "multiple businesses."

Dick and Joe both need to grow up. Dick is a Tommy Lee wanna be and Joe should not be so vocal about his private life.

Eric seems like a good choice for America's Player as he already knew it wasn't a great idea to be the first head of household as you really don't know the other house guests that well yet.

I will have more to say on other guests as I get to "know" them. Looking forward to another great summer.

Thank you Jackie for the opportunity to connect with fellow BB fans.

Season premiere was OK, don't know much about them yet.

I thought it was a good move to have those three in the HOH room-- I liked Dustin and Dick-- they were all cheering their "rivals" would lose!

Can't stand Joe, he needs to go.

I kind of like Dick-- probably I am more curious about anything why he "kicked his daughter out"

Like Eric as the AP-- should be good once we start telling him what to do.

Time for BBAD comes on at 11 PM central time.

Hello everybody!!!!

Lucy I agree with your take on Dick. he seemed completely childish and very aware he was on TV and loving it. I was not so impressed at first with the duaghter, as most of the girls early on showed off their bods and she was one of them. But during the competition, I saw that she wa sserious and quite composed, which was only confirmed later when the enemy concept was introduced. I think she's my current fave in the house at the moment. I thought Eric was kind of goofy in his diary sessions before he was announced as AP, but I think he could turn out to be interesting. First impressions after all. I too want Joe to go and his old BF to stay. And of the two gradeschool enemies, I am dreading that the uptight girl who was upstairs will end up staying like Alison. Ugh. Don't need to listen that all season. My hope is that she goes along with Joe and Dick. Buh bye.

So far I dont hate anyone..but I really think Dick needs to humble himself before his daughter, thats a hard load to carry that they dont talk..and he is the adult (or is he?)
I love Americans Player idea...sort of like when we got to vote Janelle the 50,000..love it.
Paricipation.
Looking forward to this season Jackie, as always you ROCK!!!

Alright- Joe needs to go...dirty laundry...uggg. Dustin seems to be a good guy! And the showtime feeds are not bad. Not getting the live feeds....Showtime + dvr= the good life. Early choices- Amber and Nick hopefully go far..and get rid of Joe and Jen- TOO MUCH.

Hi everyone!

Happy Thursday!! I liked it! Not long enough to get much, but still entertaining.

Took an immediate dislike to Joe. I don't see that changing. Kail was a big question for me even when the HG's were first announced on CBS, and she did nothing tonight to dispel my concerns. And, finally, JEN-ius (aka Chill Town) is on my hitlist.

I thought Danielle held herself together well under the circumstances, especially for such a young girl. Her Dad seems like trouble, and I am not sure that even she should trust him.

Eric seems a good choice for AP! This will be a blast!!!

Until Sunday...

Welcome back Jackie's BB Blog!

Look forward to a fun summer with you, Jackie.

Game on!

I wish they had a more diverse group of "real" people.

I don't care for Joe at all. So far I like Dustin and Dick.

This should be an interesting season.

((((Jackie)))) Here we go!!
I should be in bed but had to read your blog.
It's so good to see some of our friends back here again and I'm sure there will be many new friends stopping by when they see what a great BB blog you write.
Although, I'm already feeling for your loosing sleep for the next few months. ;)

I'm going to have to watch my tape again to get more familiar with the cast. I had company when BB started.

I can already say Joe is NOT going to be someone I like for the same reasons everyone mentioned. I don't care much for Dick especially after his cheering when his daughter lost the comp. I'll reserve my opinion of Danielle until I find out why she hasn't talked to her dad for two years.

Eric is the perfect "America's Player". He seems to have a great personality and isn't full of himself. Guess we won't have to fly a plane over the house to give them a clue. LOL

Is Jen our new "Holly"? Just her voice alone is going to be irritating. (Hope I got the name right.)

Shout out to Delee...what a great idea to give them "Alice in Wonderland" names. I'm not sure if I remember all the characters so will have to brush up.

Thanks Jackie for giving up so much to keep us updated on the feeds.

See everyone soon!

who was the senator's daughter?

AlbGlinka said...

Arrghh: "Flamboyant" is a word that drives me crazy. Liberace was flamboyant. Joe is just a typical young gay man. Those dramas happen all the time: "He said, HE said!" I'm sure both he and Dustin had equal parts in their break-up.

I'm hoping that someone comes out as having some brains. Hoping one of the pretty ones, male or female, is another Janelle....

Anonymous said...

That would be Carol.

Anonymous said...

Carol, being the senator's daughter, that is.

Anonymous said...

Dick only cheered when Danielle lost because he didn't want her to win HOH and probably nominate him to leave. Hope you heard wrong about Nick. He's so cute!

Liz @ The Shrinking Owl said...

I would like to punch Kail in the mouth. She seems like a stuck-up b!tch. "Half the town works for me! I can't let people know I'm rich! But I will talk about it every time I get a chance to in the diary room!"

That woman needs a big, fat slice of humble pie.

Glad to be back Jackie,,, If it weren't for you, my in between BB8 days I would lose what little hair I have,,,

This season is going to be very different. I am yearning for a Jannelle or Will even. Think the boys are going to run all over the girls in physically comps. Well, almost all of the boys.

The girls with exception to Jameka and the single mom from Las Vegas, seem like they are stuck in high school or for 2 at least middle school.

Nanny Jen is so full of herself, I hope this is all an act for the sake of the kids she watches.

Kali is going to be gone soon, she will rub people the wrong way, remember she is use to running and owning her town, and I don't think BB8 is big enough for her.

Danielle, well, there is a issue of her & her father, but, this might play to her advantage, Maybe evil Dick will be a instigator leaving the door open for his daughter.

All and all I wish for a Kaysar or Janelle or Will, Marcellas. Don't know if I am going to like this season yet.

Melody said...

Great recap, as always, Jackie. I read all the sites but enjoy yours the most. I don't know how I feel about the house or players yet but I will be watching Showtime after dark. And BTW anonymous, not only Califorians say "like" and not all Californians say "like". So please don't sterotype us.

Sydney said...

Hmmmm Joy -- That's an interesting interpretation of why Dick cheered for Daniele losing. I hope it's that, though what explains how badly he spoke of her on the Hammock with Amber on AfterDark? Did you just interpret it that way or was there something I missed?

And I was hoping a bit for Daniele to maybe be a bit like Janelle this year. Besides how well she dealt with her father coming in while emenies where being introduced, in watching the After Dark stuff she seems to keep her mouth shut and watch a lot, which says good things to me at this early stage. There is definitely more to her than meets the eye, just not sure what it IS yet.

Anonymous said...

Sidney, I'd swear I heard one of the three (thought it was Dick) at the beginning of the HOH challenge say "If she wins, I'm gone". I thought that's why they're all rooting for their enemies to lose the HOH. None of them wanted to be nominated. As for what he said later, I just figured it had to do with whatever their issues are.

Anonymous said...

It wasn't until after the HOH comp that Julie told them the three were exempt from the noms.

Anonymous said...

Besides, wasn't Dick "recruited" because of Daniele?
