Hi Jackie, I just read your article at TV Squad. Glad you're finally getting paid to do some of this!
This is the first BB that I don't know who to root for! I can;t stand EvelDick anymore, and I think he's just awful to women. I don't know how he got away with pouring tea over Jen's head -- that's assault!
Anyway, thanx for your insights,

Susan from MA

I made this comment on the previous post, but it was probably too late to be read. So I'm repeating it here. "Assault" and "battery" are legal terms. They're not ncessarily what you think they are.

"Assault" does NOT require physical contact (that's "battery".). Assault is any action that alarms the recipient and causes him/her to fear for their physical safety. Jen was not alarmed or fearful. Therefore it is NOT assault.

On the other hand, ED's verbal attacks clearly alarm and cause fear. His hot tub attack on Eric, for example, was clearly assault. There was a clear threat of physical harm.

I wonder how often ED has attacked his daughter in like fashion. I wonder what awful things he has said to her and called her in a rage.

Silk, just cause you wonder about it doesn't make it so. You're really stretching your point.

Silk -

I knew someone like ED once. He said he just dealt with anger differently than some, said "I get hot, it comes out and then it's over, no big deal." I think he thougth it was a virtue, that he was being "real", when others were NOT if they were meaured with their bigger emotions. What he didn't grok was the damage it caused in his relationships (as also, each time he blew, he'd go a little deeper below the belt). He was estranged from his only son for that reason. And he lost me from his life, and others before me.

They say if all you have to work with is a hammer, everything becomes a nail. Dick has a few more tools, but by his own admission, is who he is so... it stands to reason that Daniele's probably heard quite a bit of like comments and rants from him in her short lifetime. Doesn't mean he doesn't also regret that and really loves her and wants to mend things. But that unfortunately does not always repair damage done. Let's hope so though.

Well, I guess I wasn't speaking "legally", but you got the
point. Dick is a bully. I don't like him anymore. He probably did treat Daniele like that.

Taken from the dictionary:

Assault is a crime of violence against another person. In some jurisdictions, including Australia and New Zealand assault refers to an act that causes another to apprehend immediate and personal violence, while in other jurisdictions, such as the United States, assault refers only to the threat of violence caused by an immediate show of force.

Pouring a drink over ones head is not assault, unless in doing so he threatened to drown her.
