Sneak Peek: 'Saving Grace' on TNT

Saving Grace is a new original drama scheduled to make its debut on TNT next Monday night, July 23, following The Closer.

I think that TNT is going to be building itself a pretty powerful 2-hour block running these two series back-to-back.

Holly Hunter stars as Grace, a rather wild-child fast-living Oklahoma City detective who has attracted a bizarre guardian angel named Earl (Leon Rippy from Deadwood).

I've never been keen on guardian angel shows. I mean, no offense to Della Reese, but I guess I just like my television on the more gritty side of life. But I liked my screener of the Saving Grace pilot. Oh, no! I must be going to heck in a handbasket, eh? I like an angel kind of show? Yipes!

Oh, but this one is different. It's definitely for a more adult audience and parents might not want their children to watch. But I find the concept, the acting, and the characters engaging. Grace's irrational behavior kind of stretches the acceptability level for cops, but angel Earl saves the day... in just as unconventional sort of way. One of Earl's other "clients" is a murderer on Death Row? I love the quirk!

Give it a shot next Monday night at 10 PM. After all, Holly Hunter has won both Emmys and an Academy Award (for The Piano). Do you think she would have taken just any ol' TV job? Nope! Then there's Earl, destined to be the most quirky angel ever on television.

I am from Oklahoma City so I hope the show doesn't show us as country hill billys!!!

No at all, Lesa. The characters came across as a mix of urban and country/suburban type folks. The angel Earl is a bit of a redneck, but...!

Does anyone know if we get TNT in Canada? I have Shaw Digital cable and can't find it anywhere. Some of these shows you talk about sound interesting and I'd like to check them out.

AMEN Lesa..I hate that when Hollywood show's an "Okie" they make us look and sound like we like in the deep woods carring banjo's..waiting to make the next Ned Baty squill like a pig..and the accents that they "try" to pull off..come on..I have to yell at the TV.."WE DONT SOUND LIKE THAT!!!!"..

I thought this sounded like a winner when I read about it in TV Guide a few weeks ago. I really like Holly Hunter and so I will be sure to tune in,especially since there is NOTHING on Mondays to watch at 10PM. I have been catching up on a lot of my reading on Mondays, except for Hell's Kitchen,I can't find much to watch. Thank God for baseball! GO INDIANS!!!!!

Don't feel bad Lyss and Lesa, I live in Wisconsin and we get a bum rap too. Everyone thinks we all live on farms and talk with accents. "Hey dere" and "Ey...how's yous". While my daughter is a full fledged cheesehead, I just live here! ;)

Great show! Does anyone know who sings the acapella rendition of "Amazing Grace" used for the promos? It gave me chills.

I TiVo'd this and haven't had a chance to watch yet... but like April, I too got chills when I heard the rendition of "Amazing Grace". I've been unable to find the singer so far. Anyone?????

I gotta tell ya, I'm a bit disappointed with the show. I;m sticking with it but I thought it would be a lot better than it is. I think the main thing it's lacking is a storyling to tie each episode together. Granted you have the angel stuff that links each episode but there isn't some overarching mystery to it all. Sure we don't know exactly Earl's goal yet but I can't help but feel that each episode is just a random display of crimes and sex with no overall purpose.

I'll stick with it a bit longer but they need to give us more substance.
