BB22: PGA Tournament Delays East Coast Episode - 08/09

As Julie mentioned in the show's closing Wednesday, some areas may have the Sunday show on a delay. Well, that seems to be all of the East Coast. Due to the PGA tournament, Big Brother isn't even scheduled until 10pm EDT. I'm assuming that PDT should be the normal time; not sure of Mountain and Central. Check your local listings!

I will have a blog party post up for the 10pm EDT show as it's scheduled here.

They still don't have the yard.

Big Brother 15: Live Eviction Show Schedule/Programming Changes - August 29

Due to football tonight, many CBS stations in the Eastern and Central Time Zones are delaying the live show tonight or airing it on an alternative station. I will be putting up the blog party post tonight at 9pm ET and updating it in real time (and, yes, the party will be AWN).

However, I thought it would be good to get a post going pre-show with any scheduling news we know in our areas to share with others. If you see the show is delayed where you live, post the city/state area and the time it will start. If it's going to be aired on a sister station, post what station and time.

I'll start off with my own area:
NEW YORK CITY METRO AREA:
9pm ET on sister station WLNY 10/55 (Check your listings -- usually on either channel 10 or 55)
2:07am ET on WCBS2

Your turn ...

TV Tidbits and Stuff

My season premiere review of The Big Bang Theory is up over on CliqueClack TV. Sheldon had a date with Blossom ... er, Amy (played by Mayim Bialik). After the horrible skit on last night's The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, it's good to see they weren't tainted. I was so happy when Jim Parsons won the Emmy for his role. Although I do think it comes easy -- he seems quite Sheldon-ish himself.

If Tim Curry is going to have nasty funky teeth, he should just be Pennywise the Dancing Clown (from Stephen King's It). Last night's Criminal Minds finished off the storyline we left off with at the beginning of the summer. Curry, although a very twisted "unsub" who became "knownsub," was creepy ... but nowhere near the performance as Pennywise.

I loved the flashbacks in time with the mother and son (Curry) as a child, all playing Leonard Cohen tunes. The music just so fit into it all. Cohen's poetry and songs have intrigued me for decades. The best video for "Dance Me to the End of Love" (one of the songs featured in Criminal Minds) is this one. Trust me, it's very beautiful and touching.

In other show talk, I fear the new show The Defenders didn't keep my attention. I was looking forward to it as I've always liked Jerry O'Connell. But it just didn't do it for me. Sigh. Perhaps if they brought back the original The Defenders from the early 1960s with the Brady Bunch father Robert Reed and E.G. Marshall, I might watch.

Tomorrow night, besides getting the rest of The Amazing Race teams up, I plan on watching CSI:NY and Blue Bloods. I'll admit being a bit partial to NYC-based shows as it's cool to see places I've actually seen! I'm a cop show buff, so I do have high hopes for Blue Bloods. We'll see.

Don't forget ... only two nights left of dancing animals on The Late Show with David Letterman!

We all float down here ...

Monday Night TV Notes - June 7, 2010

I'm not coming up with anything regular on Monday evenings. I recorded The Good Guys on FOX and probably will give that a watch before long. I don't know why I watched what I did watch for two hours, though. It's two hours of my life that I'll never get back.

Yes, I watched The Last Comic Standing. I've only watched that one season before and only because I personally wanted to support someone I know. I'm talking know, like in see at my day job on occasion or sometimes just out and about. I'm not talking "have seen that comic before." So I watched the season with local Plainfield dude Rich Vos. I've seen him since. He's gotten a tan.

But it all comes back to me as I watch the show. Many of these folks just aren't funny. They're weird, some are retreads. I'm not saying I don't like comedians. I was a big fan of George Carlin, Steve Martin, Cheech and Chong (heh, they qualify), Richard Pryor, Steven Wright and even Jerry Seinfeld. But most of those were firsts and very unique. I'm watching this group of wannabes and thinking it can't be them. It must be me. I've gone and lost my sense of humor somewhere along the highway of life. Yeah, that's it.

Then I watched Persons Unknown. Oh my. I don't know what to say. It's very odd. I can never watch Jason Wiles without thinking Bosco (Third Watch) will run amok and get into a police chase. Okay, they're all abducted and put into a hotel. Then a Chinese restaurant with a large staff of men who don't speak English opens. Um. With all the cameras it's like Big Brother gone psycho and scripted. I'll be watching next week.

Later on, Letterman is going to have Lee DeWyze, the winner of American Idol, on. I'm sort of surprised he actually got the winner this time. I figured all he'd get would be the losers.

What did you watch?

It's Midseason or 2010 Winter Season TV Time - Premiere Dates

Yep, the winter season of television is here! I feel old. Y'see, I remember the old days when television shows ran about forty episodes a year and just went from fall to summer. I've gathered some of the dates of the premieres for you -- a few already started this week, my apologies. At work, my computer system had its 2000 breakdown ten years later. All of the programs I use there went kerflooey when it changed to 2010. So my work days have been manually entering tons of data using adding machines, then re-entering it into the computer after days of manual stuff. Argh! A nightmare indeed and, that's my excuse for not getting this to you earlier.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Without further ado --

I liked Southland on NBC and felt they canceled it without letting it find its audience. It's kind of like Third Watch done Los Angeles. I'm a sucker for cop shows done well. TNT took the ball and ran with it, thus new Southland will make its premiere next Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Leverage with Timothy Hutton returns to TNT. Yay!

Here's a whole bunch of new and returning shows coming up this month and next:

Monday, Jan. 4 -- The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love (ABC)
Monday, Jan. 4 -- Heroes (NBC)
Tuesday, Jan. 5 -- True Beauty (ABC)
Tuesday, Jan. 5 -- The Biggest Loser (NBC)
Sunday, Jan. 10 -- Big Love (HBO)
Sunday, Jan. 10 -- Chuck (NBC)
Thursday, Jan. 14 -- Project Runway (Lifetime)
Sunday, Jan. 17 -- 24 (Fox)
Sunday, Jan. 17 -- Human Target (Fox) new
Monday, Jan. 18 -- Life UneXpected (The CW) new
Thursday, Jan. 21 -- Deep End (ABC) new
Friday, Jan. 22 -- Caprica (Syfy) new
Friday, Jan. 22 -- Spartacus: Blood and Sand (Starz) new
Monday, Jan. 25 -- Damages (FX)
Monday, Jan. 25 -- Secret Diary of a Call Girl (Showtime)
Friday, Jan. 29 -- Kitchen Nightmares (Fox)

Monday, Feb. 1 -- Kell on Earth (Bravo) new
Tuesday, Feb. 2 -- Lost (ABC)
Thursday, Feb. 11 -- Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains (CBS)
Sunday, Feb. 14 -- The Amazing Race (CBS)

And, of course, we cannot forget --

I won't be writing in-depth reviews on many of the shows. However, I'll probably be posting periodically on some. If you want me to create a blog entry for comments on a show that I might not watch (Bachelor, for example), let me know and I'll get one up for you to hang out in!

So, What's New on TV Tonight?

A feral cat poses for my camera near the Plainfield (NJ) Train Station.

Ah, it's dilemma time. Although I do really consider I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here to be shoddy entertainment at its best, tonight is the finale. Add in the fact that America's Got Talent is airing its second show of the season after it ... and there's a block I kind of sort of would like to watch.

But, So You Think You Can Dance is on FOX opposite of those two NBC shows. Yes, it's two hours. Since this is the show I'm most likely to follow until the end of the season, it wins my live in person viewing time. I'll record the other two and may peek in on the first one to catch the winner.

Hmm ... then there's the 10 PM (ET) hour. Now, The Philanthropist on NBC is new but the whole premise of the show isn't quite grabbing me. ABC is having a health care question and answer Primetime with President Obama. I realize that's probably what I SHOULD watch. There's a new Real World on MTV. A&E has two new episodes of Tattoo Highway. Bravo has a new Top Chef Masters.

Decisions, decisions. What will you be watching?

TV Doings This Week

Yikes! What a TV week ahead of us, starting tonight! Before I get into some of my viewing plans, just a quick mention on the photo. I took this one a while back as the stereo sign lined up nicely with the double "stereo" lamp post. I liked the way it turned out messing around with a photo editor above. The original shot is at the bottom of the post and was taken in North Plainfield, NJ. And, no. That has nothing to do with television.

Sunday: Argh. I have to write up two shows tonight -- The Amazing Race for TV Squad and Cold Case for CliqueClack TV. Barring any sports delays, TAR begins at 8 PM ET and my other shows schedule is clear. Good. Then comes 9 PM ET -- Cold Case starts, but there's also a two-hour Celebrity Apprentice starting at 9 PM. Waah! I know CA will be available online tomorrow and rerun on Saturday night, but I'd really rather watch that than CC! Throw into the mix that A&E has a Sopranos episode I want to see on at 10 PM (repeated at 11) -- what a night I have!

So, my plan is: Get my Reality Clack column for CliqueClack TV out of the way this afternoon except for the TAR bit. Watch TAR with a post going here as is my standard. Take notes on TAR and Cold Case as they air. I'll write up both reviews at 10 PM, hopefully to be done by 11 PM so I can catch the second airing of The Sopranos episode. As I write, I'll have the second hour of Celebrity Apprentice on in the background. I guess I can catch up with the first hour online. Sunday nights didn't used to be this complicated!

Monday: In the 8 PM (ET) prime time hour, I'll watch The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. I will have to write up a review of TBBT for CliqueClack TV. But I probably won't do that until after I've watched Heroes. My 10 PM hour has lots of possibilities for background as I write -- Saving Grace on TNT or maybe the new Animal Cops Phoenix on Animal Planet.

But then, later on, I have to absolutely positively see Letterman! He has two (not one, but TWO) of my all-time favorite guests on! First, Jack Hanna and animals. Those segments are priceless. Not only are the animals always fantastic, but I love the banter between Jack and Dave. Then, he also has Russell Brand on. That guy's a trip to a delightfully quirky place.

Tuesday: Ah, a relatively easy TV night. Two hours of American Idol, then I want to catch Trust Me (which I haven't seen) on TNT. Letterman has Stupid Pet Tricks, always a must see segment for me.

Wednesday: I plan to check out the new cooking reality show, The Chopping Block, on NBC in the 8 PM hour. Then it's American Idol and Criminal Minds on during the second hour. I'll record CM. LOST is a repeat. Even though I know it's going to be canceled, since they promise answers at the end of the season, I'm sticking with Life on Mars in the 10 PM hour. Letterman has on Tom Brokaw, another guest I enjoy. So I'm staying up.

Thursday: Gee, I think I'll watch Survivor for a change! Heh. Of course, I'll be writing that episode up for TV Squad. I see Bones is also a new episode running up against Survivor, but I'll catch it on the FOX website. In the second hour of the night, I'll probably catch Hell's Kitchen ... a show I've been keeping up with on the FOX website for the most part this season.

Friday: I sleep. Er, I watch shows I've recorded or shows on the Internet. Or, I catch up with my Bonnie Hunts recorded all week. Or I read. I sometimes catch Wife Swap. I'm not proud.

What are your TV plans for the week?

Tonight, Tonight ... on TV

We're back to a dilemma for me tonight. First off, have I ever mentioned how I hate this fall/winter season with an extended break in between programming bit? Heroes returns tonight (9 PM ET/PT) and I can't remember what was happening in the last episode. It seems like it was a good six years ago or so!

I'll be watching the new episodes of The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother in the 8 PM hour. I'll be writing up the BBT episode for CliqueClack TV, but not before I watch Heroes.

NBC has a new Chuck on at 8 PM ET/PT and a new Medium on at 10 PM ET/PT. The CBS line-up is all new episodes tonight. FOX has a new House followed by a new 24. ABC has a new 2-hour The Bachelor followed by a new True Beauty. TNT has The Closer (new - 9 PM ET/PT), then a new Trust Me.

I'll be watching the 8 PM CBS hour, then Heroes, then True Beauty as I write up TBBT. I don't really have to think for True Beauty. I'll record The Closer and Trust Me. Gack, too much TV and too little time to watch it all!

What are you watching?

TV Shows Continue the Return

Before I talk about TV, just a bit of off topic rambling! I found an ornamental kale not in my patch o' kale I've been photographing. This one is further along in the winter phase and to the point where it's often called snow cabbage. It has lost its color and is closing up like a cabbage. Also, I spotted Roofus the cat today. I was on the train home, but was going a few stops further to run some errands. So I didn't have my camera ready as I caught sight of him in his usual place just before sunset this evening.

Onto television!

I received a screener for the upcoming season premiere of The Closer (TNT) which I'll hopefully get to viewing on Sunday. It's set to air Monday, January 26 at 9 PM ET/PT. So if I don't get to it this week, next week will do. I also received another screener copy from TNT -- Gifted Hands, the Ben Carson Story. That one is a movie based on the life of Dr. Benjamin Carson, a man who became the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Childrens' Center. He also won the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It looks quite interesting. I have more time on that one as it will air on February 7.

Closer to date --
This coming Monday marks a big TV night. 24 returns to FOX in a two-hour premiere starting at 8 PM ET/PT. The CBS regular Monday primetime line-up is all new episodes. The Superstars of Dance (which didn't really rock my socks) is new and two hours starting at 8 PM ET/PT on NBC. Of course, The Bachelor (ABC) is also new as are all the network shows in the 10 PM ET/PT slot, too.

On Tuesday, the madness which is American Idol begins with a two-hour show on FOX starting at 8 PM ET/PT. The Biggest Loser also has its season premiere at the same time on NBC. All of the other network shows are brand-spanking new, too. I see we have back-to-back new Scrubs running head-to-head against The Mentalist.

Wednesday has the entire primetime block on ABC taken up with Lost. However, the season premiere isn't until the following week. On FOX, American Idol has another two-hour show. NBC has crammed an old L&O: SVU in between a new Knight Rider and a new Law and Order. The CBS primetime block is all new episodes of the usual Wednesday night suspects.

On Thursday, CBS starts of with a CSI repeat, but then into new episodes of CSI and Eleventh Hour. NBC has all new Thursday episodes of its regular line-up. FOX has a new Bones, then the season premiere of Kitchen Nightmares. ABC is all new, too! Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, and Private Practice.

I'm still finding Friday a bit disappointing, but will post more on that night later on. And, mind you ... I didn't even go into the cable listings. Perhaps on Friday, I can watch some of the stuff I recorded earlier in the week.

What will you be watching or recording?

TV Newsy Bits - Sunday, October 7, 2007

Jackie's TV Newsy BitsI want autumn. I want crisp cool nights, low humidity, and warm (not hot) days.

Make it happen before the snow is upon us, please. I've been resisting the urge to turn on the air conditioner here because it just seems so incongruous to even think of using it during what I consider the best weather times of the year. But I'll admit to running my fan.

In TV Newsy Bits:

TV Land is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Leave it to Beaver with a huge marathon all weekend. Now, of course I don't remember the show from when I was a toddler, but it was one of the earliest shows I can remember watching by the time I was five or so. Beaver, The Mickey Mouse Club (I had a child crush on Cubby and loved Spin and Marty), The Twilight Zone, Ed Sullivan, and the Lone Ranger were the TV mainstays of my really early childhood days. Alas, my mother never wore pearls around the house and my father, though he always sported a Ward Cleaver haircut, only wore a tie for social occasions. The Cleavers we were not.

Although I don't watch The Bachelor, a local contestant was ousted by the show this past week. So, of course, the local news is full of her. This Reality TV World interview shows she really wanted to win. I just don't get it. Perhaps because I'm an avowed spoiled single person, I just can't think people actually go on a show like The Bachelor for love. For money, for fame, but love?

I was looking over Evel Dick's (BB8) MySpace page. I'm not on the list of people he wants to meet. I'm so crushed.

Not.

TV Newsy Bits and Bloggy Stuff

Jackie's TV Newsy BitsThe link to my TV Squad review of last night's Kid Nation is right here -- it hadn't posted yet when I mentioned it in my last entry.

As for tonight's Survivor 15: China blogging -- I'll be doing East Coast Updates on important events in the show (immunity and the boot), then my review will be posted over on TV Squad later in the evening. If you wish to discuss the show while it's airing, of course you can feel free to jump in the comments of the East Coast updates! I'll be listening ... er ... reading.

Don't forget, fans of Grey's Anatomy, there is a discussion post for you to talk about tonight's episode with your friends right here.

Someone asked in comments if I'll be deleting the build-up of comments in the DWTS discussion post. I don't like to delete comments because once gone, they can't be retrieved, plus some folks get upset when I do. Plus, it's very time-consuming on this end for me to delete tons of comments one by one. We'll see how things go. If it looks like things are getting unwieldy, I might post a new discussion post weekly or something.

Now to the real TV Newsy Bits!

I'm sure there are some folks out there who watch the NBC Thursday primetime block -- My Name is Earl, The Office, and E.R., right? If you're a fan of those shows, NBC has some big doings going on tonight online for them.

For My Name is Earl, after the special one hour episode 8-9 ET, there will be a 30 minute live blog chat with executive producer Greg Garcia.
For The Office, after the special one hour episode 9-10 ET, there will be a 30 minute live blog chat with executive producer Greg Daniels starting at 10 PM ET.

ER airs from 10-11 ET, then is followed by a 30 minute live blog chat with star Parminder Nagra and writer/co-executive producer Dr. Joe Sachs starting at 11 PM ET.

Whatever Will I Watch Tonight? - Friday, Sept. 21, 2007

Now that the Big Brother feeds are over, it's time to get back to normal on the blog! Well, as normal as I get, anyway.

While it's relaxing not to have Big Brother constantly taking over my blog, it does put me in a quandary as to what I should watch tonight. Unless I want to watch repeated live feeds, I have no live feeds! Yeah, I know I could read -- I have plenty of novels in my To Read pile. And, I really should spend some time on a work project I've been putting off.

But I wanna watch my TV! Here are some of the slim pickings at hand this evening:
  • CBS has an entire block of reruns for its primetime hours -- Ghost Whisperer, The Unit, and Numb3rs. Bleh.
  • NBC has a rerun block, too -- 1 vs. 100, Las Vegas, Law and Order: SVU. Feh. The only show I watch out of those is the L&O one and that episode's much too recent for me to watch again. Feh.
  • FOX actually has a new Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader on at 8 PM ET/PT, but I just don't like that show. I know I'm smarter than when I was in fifth grade and that's all that matters. At 9 PM ET/PT, they have a new Nashville on. Never saw it, don't want to. Meh.
  • ABC has a repeat America's Funniest Home Videos on at 8 PM ET/PT, then two new back-to-back 20/20 episodes to fill out the evening. Eh.
The cable listings aren't much better (in my opinion) with the only thing catching my interest being a new Meerkat Manor on at 8:30 PM ET/PT on Animal Planet. I don't have premium channels, so I couldn't tell you what's on HBO or Showtime.

So, with Letterman in repeats, I have a whole half-hour of TV I want to watch tonight.

Or, do I?

My birthday was recently and, amongst other things, my brother gave me a gift certificate for Amazon. com. My order arrived today. And, guess what? It's TV on DVD! Yay!

Since I don't have HBO yet got hooked on The Wire (after missing the first episode) on BET, I wanted the real thing without all the horrible BET ads -- so, I bought the first season of The Wire. Woohoo!

The other thing I bought is something I want to see whether it lives up to my childhood memories or not. Y'see, I was a rather strange young child and my parents really didn't monitor my television watching habits (nor my reading ones, nor my movie-watching) much at all. When I was five, my favorite show was The Twilight Zone even though it gave me nightmares. By the time I was nine, I was hooked on The Fugitive -- the original with David Janssen. I had watched it on and off since I was eight or so, often from the top of the stairs as my parents watched and I was supposed to be in bed. The Twilight Zone has been rerun for decades, but I've never seen the original The Fugitive in reruns anywhere. Now I have the first season of the show on DVD! Super YAY!

So, it's a good thing there isn't anything on TV which interests me tonight. I think I have to start a search for a one-armed man.

Make My Pants Purple! - This Week on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' - July 30-Aug. 3, 2007

Late Show with David Letterman What's this? Yet another week of fresh pants ahead of us?

Why, yes it is! I know Dave will probably take another week off soon, but it's not this one. Cool, I say.

Here are the scheduled guests this week as listed on the CBS website:

  • Monday, July 30: Andy Samberg promoting Hot Rod, musical guests The Bravery (CD is The Sun and the Moon), and (get this) PBA bowling on 53rd Street! I think the bowling will be the hit of this show.
  • Tuesday, July 31: Senator Joe Biden (author of Promises to Keep), actor Seth Rogen promoting Superbad, musical guest Gogol Bordello (CD is Super Taranta!). Um. Okay.
  • Wednesday, August 1: Matt Damon (The Bourne Ultimatum), comedian Jeff Altman, musical guest Angelique Kidjo whose CD is Djin Djin. Djokay, djokay.
  • Thursday, August 2: Al Franken, Jackie Chan promoting Rush Hour 3 and Michael Buble. Sorry, I'm not on the Buble train. Give me the real deal, please.
  • Friday, August 3: Glenn Close (Damages), Judd Apatow (Superbad) and musical guests Chris and Rich Robinson (from the Black Crowes) whose CD is Brothers of a Feather: Live at the Roxy.

Well. I don't think this week is going to be one for the records for me. Thankfully, the Top Ten lists and general Dave tomfoolery will save the week.

It Must be the Pants! - This Week on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' - July 23-27

Late Show with David Letterman
It's gotta be the pants! I'm talking Worldwide Pants, of course. We have another week of all new shows ahead of us. One of these years I'm going to take a count of how many weeks off Dave actually takes. Of course, when he started out, the show only aired four days a week. Now it's on for five, but if memory serves, they double up on the filming one day a week, so he still really works only the four days a week.

Here are the guests we can expect to see this week on the show:
  • Monday, July 23: Drew Carey (Power of 10), Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray, the new version. Musical guests are Grinderman with a self-titled CD out on the market.
  • Tuesday, July 24: Paul Rudd (The Ten - not to be confused with The Power of ...), Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy, musical guests The National whose CD is Boxer.
  • Wednesday, July 25: Catherine Zeta Jones promoting No Reservations, comedian Bob Sarlatte, musical guest Porter Wagoner (CD is Wagonmaster).
  • Thursday, July 26: Sharon Osbourne lately of America's Got Talent and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
  • Friday, July 27: Anne Hathaway (Becoming Jane), Jim Gaffigan of My Boys, musical guest Buffalo Tom (CD is Three Easy Pieces).

In an unrelated trivia note -- On Thursday, July 26, Mick Jagger will be 64 years old. Oh, my. That's scary.

Sneak Peek: 'Saving Grace' on TNT

Saving Grace is a new original drama scheduled to make its debut on TNT next Monday night, July 23, following The Closer.

I think that TNT is going to be building itself a pretty powerful 2-hour block running these two series back-to-back.

Holly Hunter stars as Grace, a rather wild-child fast-living Oklahoma City detective who has attracted a bizarre guardian angel named Earl (Leon Rippy from Deadwood).

I've never been keen on guardian angel shows. I mean, no offense to Della Reese, but I guess I just like my television on the more gritty side of life. But I liked my screener of the Saving Grace pilot. Oh, no! I must be going to heck in a handbasket, eh? I like an angel kind of show? Yipes!

Oh, but this one is different. It's definitely for a more adult audience and parents might not want their children to watch. But I find the concept, the acting, and the characters engaging. Grace's irrational behavior kind of stretches the acceptability level for cops, but angel Earl saves the day... in just as unconventional sort of way. One of Earl's other "clients" is a murderer on Death Row? I love the quirk!

Give it a shot next Monday night at 10 PM. After all, Holly Hunter has won both Emmys and an Academy Award (for The Piano). Do you think she would have taken just any ol' TV job? Nope! Then there's Earl, destined to be the most quirky angel ever on television.

Pants Mania - This Week on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' - July 16-20, 2007

Late Show with David Letterman Even I need a respite from the Big Brother house, right?

Make mine pants!

Here are the guests we can expect to see this week on The Late Show with David Letterman:

  • Monday, July 16: Michelle Pfeiffer promoting Hairspray, Jonah Hill talking about Superbad, Michele Lauziere (Master of the Unusual)
  • Tuesday, July 17: Adam Sandler pimping I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and musical guest Mute Math (CD is Mute Math).
  • Wednesday, July 18: John Travolta (Hairspray), Paula Abdul promoting her new reality series (which I've managed to not see yet) Hey Paula, musical guest Teddy Thompson whose CD is Upfront and Down Low.
  • Thursday, July 19: Kevin James (I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry), musical guest White Rabbits - CD is Fort Nightly.
  • Friday, July 20: Julia Stiles of The Bourne Ultimatum and comedian Nick Griffith.
Yes, all fresh shows this week! Hairspray is getting a lot of hype. I think I'll have to go see it when it arrives at the theaters. I always like quirky John Waters things. I don't know how keen I am on a chubby female John Travolta, though. Vinnie Barbarino would take a bruising from the sweathogs on that!

Where's Your Pants? - This Week on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' - July 9-13, 2007

Late Show with David Letterman Apparently CBS doesn't know where their pants are! As I write this, the entire guest list for the week at the official Late Show website is entirely blank... just an empty box. Grr. I'll have to peruse AOL TV Listings for my info, huh? It seems that CBS and the Late Show could hire someone who would actually keep their site in a timely fashion.
  • Monday, July 9: Don Cheadle, a summer toys demonstration, musical guests The Smashing Pumpkins. This one sounds like a keeper to me. I love when Dave does toys!
  • Tuesday, July 10: Sienna Miller, Michael era, musical guest Interpol. Um, okay. I guess.
  • Wednesday, July 11: Actress Emma Watson, musical guest Spoon. I'm not really excited.
  • Thursday, July 12: Actress Vera Farmiga is the only guest listed. I'm sure there's more to the show than that!
  • Friday, July 13: Queen Latifah, author Alan Zweibel, and The Smashing Pumpkins. That can't be right... Smashing Pumpkins on both Monday and Friday? I doubt it!

Anyhow, there are the discombobulated guests for the week. CBS should get their site updated!

Phone Your Pants - This Week on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' - July 2-6, 2007

Late Show with David LettermanYes, use your new iPhone to phone those pants! While I won't be getting an iPhone, I'll probably be watching Letterman this week. Heck, I don't have to pay over $600 for him and I can touch the screen if I want to! But the thought is kind of weird and then I'd have fingerprints all over my TV.

If you like Ryan Adams, take a peek at the Late Show website. He appeared on the show last week and sang one song, but they have him singing another in a video on the site. I looked through the clips they have and don't see the Julie Chen appearance. I'm not surprised. There wasn't much to it.

Who will be on the big shoe this week? Well, I'm glad you asked... we're in for another week of reruns.
  • Monday, July 2: Kid Scientists, Luke Wilson, Rufus Wainwright and the Top Ten from Homer Simpson. This was a good show -- Luke Wilson was a hoot and the kids are always fun.
  • Tuesday, July 3: Nicole Ritchie, Artie Lange, Chrisette Michele. Dave put Nicole on the spot as he talked about Paris.
  • Wednesday, July 4: Stupid Pet Tricks, Rosie Perez, Dr. Dog. We need more CATS on Stupid Pet Tricks!
  • Thursday, July 5: Jane Fonda, Tom Ruprecht, Kelly Clarkson.
  • Friday, July 6: Teri Hatcher, Jonah Hill, Elvis Costello.

There's your Pants for the week. Wear them well!

Share Those Pants! - This Week on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' - June 25-29, 2007

Late Show with David Letterman Dave had his week off, but he'll be back full-force on Monday. Hopefully, his broken nose is feeling up to snuff and he's learned a lesson about rough-housing with a three-year-old. The kid always wins against the "old guy."

Here's the guest list for the upcoming week:
  • Monday, June 25: This is the show of the week for me. Bruce Willis (always a lot of fun when he's on with Dave), diving dogs out on 53rd Street, Morrissey, and... although I don't see her name listed on the official show website, Julie Chen (the host of Big Brother 8) was originally scheduled for the show.
  • Tuseday, June 26: Paula Abdul, John Krasinski promoting License to Wed, and Bryan Ferry.
  • Wednesday, June 27: Claire Danes (Evening), Keith Obermann & Dan Patrick, and Ryan Adams.
  • Thursday, June 28: Robin Williams also promoting License to Wed
  • Friday, June 29: Senator Dennis Kucinich, Shia LeBoeuf (Transformers), and comedian Brian Kiley.

Uh-oh... we have a big discrepancy here! I see on the Yahoo TV Listings that they have Julie Chen listed for Thursday night with Robin Williams. For some odd reason, I can't get AOL TV Listings to show after Wednesday night, so I can't confirm it there. Onto the TVGuide.com listings... yep, they also have Julie Chen listed for Thursday night. The official Late Show website only has Robin Williams listed, but he can't be the only guest on the show.

So, it should be Thursday night for Julie Chen instead of Monday. Oh, well... what's a few more days, eh?

Argh.

The TV Weekend

Well, isn't this weekend just ducky for television viewers?

Um, no. It's not. It's a good thing the weather is gorgeous here in the NYC/NJ area. Watching the ducks and geese at the park could be better than the television. I took this photo in nearby Westfield at the park often featured in the show Ed.

Thankfully, I have a screener of the pilot episode of the new TNT series Saving Grace which I'll watch over the weekend. I should be reporting back to you on that sometime tomorrow. I'm also playing FedEx tag with a package which I suspect is from either TBS or TNT, so I'll have to see what that is during the week ahead.

We're at the calm before the storm on the Big Brother 8 front. Things should kick off in the week ahead starting with Julie Chen's appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman this Monday evening. I've noticed new commercials almost daily for the show, all featuring past houseguests (of course). The new hamsters should have been "kidnapped" by now and held in sequester. We should be seeing some new faces on commercials perhaps by the end of the week. It's almost here!

But, then there's this weekend on television. Oh, my... perhaps it's time to check out some movie rentals!

If we're talking new episodes, there isn't much happening. There's a new Cops on tonight at 8 PM ET/PT and then a new America's Most Wanted at 9 PM ET/PT. The Cartoon Network has new programming on starting at 9 PM ET/PT. Oh... Bravo has not-so-new Pulp Fiction! Ah, but I have that on DVD. AMC is airing Braveheart, but I'm not sure my attention span will be up for that tonight. Zoolander is on Comedy Central.

Tomorrow night, Sunday, isn't much better. I see FOX has new episodes of The Loop on at 8:30 and 9:30 PM ET/PT with a repeat The Family Guy sandwiched in the middle. In this area, WNET (PBS) has a new Mystery! starting at 9 PM ET/PT. TBS is airing Men in Black II back to back through the evening. WGN has an American Idol Rewind on at 8 PM ET... I may check that out to see what season they're into on the show these days. The History Channel has a new Ice Road Truckers on at 10 PM ET/PT.

Oh, heck. I may just end up either reading a book or watching old Law and Order: Criminal Intent reruns on Bravo all evening. Or, maybe I'll turn to my DVD collection -- watch a movie or rewatch some Homicide: Life on the Street.

Folks can say what they want about Big Brother. But when the feeds are live, I always have some sort of background entertainment.

What are your plans for the weekend?
