TV Squad: Survivor Review, Kid Nation and More!

My review of tonight's Survivor China episode is up over at TV Squad. You can also check out my review of last night's Kid Nation, plus I wrote an article about foreign actors and actresses getting work on shows here using American accents.

Hey ... wasn't tonight Grey's Anatomy? It seems quiet!

Nobody has mentioned it,but I really, really liked "Pushing Daisies" last night. I liked seeing Chi McBride on there and Anna Friel(sp) is very good in her role,as is the lead actor(forgetting his name now). Think I am going to like this one.

CSI was good tonight, back to it's usual strange cases and all I can say is.......buh bye Sarah! Also loving this new season of ER,but don't like Sam with her new dark hair, she seems like a different person. The little boy genius who was dying was heartbreaking, too.

GO INDIANS!!!!!!!

I watched Kid Nation even though I wasn't going to.

Jared reminds me of a mini geek contestant from Beauty and the Geek..one of my favorite reality shows. What a great kid.

I also fell in love with the "when the wind blows your face off" girl.

The crying over being homesick got to me as badly as I thought it would, but the empathy and compassion shown to those who were crying by the other kids was wonderful.

Thurs night is CBS night so I tape Ugly Betty/Greys/ER to watch later, by the time I watch those comments over and done here.

Jackie, How sad was Meerkats last week??? I was like nooooooo not Flower.

Where are all the Grey's fans? Ok, Bailey vs. Callie. What do we think of this situation? A friend of mine thinks Bailey is being totally unreasonable and completely unprofessional. That she needs to help Callie however she can and just accept the way things are. I feel differently. I think if Callie received the promotion over Bailey, than it shouldn't be Bailey's responsibility to help Callie with rebellious residents. If Callie wants the residents to respect her, than she needs to earn that respect. It shouldn't be Bailey's responsibility to bail her out just because she's in over her head. I shouldn't have to tell my supervisor how to do her job, so neither should Bailey. What do you guys think?

delee, I was heartbroken by Flower's fate in last week's episode of Meerkat Manor.
I wasn't expecting it and it brought me to tears.

Jackie, Great articles over on TV squad. I think sometimes you are writing my thoughts exactly as if you were in our living room listenting to us scream at the TV. John-Robert makes my stomache crings. I want him gone so bad! His comments about Courtney were disgusting. The freexe frame thing was weird. At first, I thought it was a glitch in my DVR. I suppose they are trying to keep our attention or get artsy, who knows? I left my comments about Kid Nation at TV squad, but they have yet to post.
Keep up the good work!

i watched Daisies. I thought it was very charming and well written. The dialogue was so sparkling. It reminded me of Buffy back when it was at it's best.

Is it just me, or is every kid on Kid Nation from Indiana?

OMG!! I had to stop watching Meerkats when the charming Carlos was shown lying dead in the dust. Now Flower has been lost, too??? Way, way too sad. I still say if they can give radio collars, they could give antibiotics! What do some of the rest of you think? Leigh in Santa Cruz

A little off topic but I wanted to stop in and remind everyone that the new season of Friday Night Lights starts tonight. Can't wait. Hope you don't mind the shout out Jackie. I know it's not your cup of tea but if I remember correctly there are a few fellow commenters that love the show. Have a great weekend everyone.

I'll be watching Pickles!!! Let me know what you think when it's done.

Auntie Leigh, I know what you mean about the radio collars but why not antibiotics. I have heard naturalists say over and over again how hard it is to follow animals and try not to become attached becasue to truly study them, and to truly not invade their natural order they have to let nature/natural selection take it's course. I don't know how I would be able to wrestle with that myself.

Think of all the little kids who watch asking their parents what happened...

Sydney- I can't watch it until my daughter gets home tommorrow, I gotta dvr it. I hope it's a great show. I'll check back tommorrow to see how you liked it. :)

I watched Grey's and have to ask, what has happened to the writers? Did the first season ones leave? It is still a good show, but there was none of the quick repartee that I loved about that first season. And...George and Izzie just don't fit. I can see the actors trying to make it work and when we can see that happening, it isn't. Then, the background music was that lighthearted comedy theme while they were (supposedly) trying not to kiss in the corrider of the hospital. Please. That was a painful moment since there was no comedy about destroying Callie's marriage. And suddenly Izzie isn't the brain she was, but the model/acting pretty/ girl she was trying to not be. I liked the wedding gifts and the bride's last scene with the apartment empty, though.

I liked seeing Mama Burke, but there was just none of the finesse about her appearance that I have come to expect from the show.

Sorry, about the rant.

Caroline, I think Bailey is being very human in her response to Callie. And we expect more than that from her. Bailey has been unerring in doing the right thing, even when it was uncomfortable. And letting her poutiness show is not the right thing. Did not getting the promotion send her over the edge and make her act out? Or has her basic character changed? That is what has been bothering me with the whole show. Everyone is acting differently from previous seasons. I like change, but give me a reason for that change. And the new interns, even Lexie, are just cardboard comedic elements right now. I would have liked a convo with them talking about the doctors and giving them nicknames like 'our' interns did on their first day.

I am recording Daisies to watch later, because someone called and told me it was too good to miss.

I am in the middle of Life (he he he...the TV show, obviously I have no life, if I can dissect Grey's Anatomy )and I like Life so far.

Can't wait for Friday Nights. I was dissapointed Hung won Chef, but really did agree he knows his stuff and deserved it. I think Dave from Survivor looks like a young, slimmer Rich from Survivor 1...they can't be related can they?!!

I haven't been around any TV talking people for several days. I have been storing it all up. Thanks Jackie for letting me speak my piece. I'm going to TV Sq. to read about Survivor now. Sue

I'm also feeling a little disillusioned with Gray's. The characters do seem to have changed and the plots seem weighed down with spiraling unhappy issues for every character on the series.

Though I am not a big fan of Callie, I don't like what's happening with her and George's storyline and it's made me like Izzy less and less each week, along with George.

Meredith's personal problems with love and McDreamy seem overdone and drawn out. It's really getting old.

After this weeks episode, Bailey was so "off" her character that I felt like I was watching a poor imitation of Gray's.

The only one who seemed true to her character was Christina.

What has happened to the light-hearted repartee that was such a breath of fresh air in between all the dramatic catastrophies of this cast?

I stopped watching Desperate Housewives because I felt it got too soapy. Now Gray's Anatomy is getting predictable and boring and I'm beginning to dislike most of the charactors. They're all miserable in unhappy relationships. It's just no fun anymore. It started last season and is continuing its downward spiral in this one. What happened?

Caroline I left a post under Grey's Heading tonight(didn't finish watching it until tonight). I think Bailey will end up getting her position as Chief Resident back.

Sue & Joy n -

Didn't Grey's writers say that they were going to do something different with the show this season? I think I read that on Grey's website when it ended earlier this year. It does have a different tone than last season. I thought it was because they got rid of Dr. Burke and they had to do some quick rewriting.

I need to go back to Wed. night viewing......

Kid Nation--I'm really enjoying it(especially watching with my 8 yr. grandson). Jared IS a little geek, but sooo cute.
I'm glad Mallory won the gold star. Besides her BD she does work hard in a quiet way. Taylor is such a BRAT!! They need to vote her off the council! She reminds me of a mini-Danielle. Not everyone is from Indiana--Michael is from Washington(I only know that because that's my home state)! I was crying for Mallory, too. My husband was laughing at me---I'm such a sap!!

Criminal Minds--glad they didn't have Gideon commit suicide(they had sure set it up for that last week). The new director is such a b*tch!! Looks like another good season.

On to Thurs......

Survivor-- I read some comments written by a blogger called survivor...it sounded alot like joe in ny!!! Joe are you using another name??
Dave is yuck!! I do think he took his pants off thinking no one would touch him--WRONG! Glad to see the girls win. I sooo liked James and then he opened his mouth! :( He knew Todd and Courtney could hear why didn't he just not say anything.
Jean-Robert should have been gone the first week IMO. He may be strong but the rest of him is a disgrace--lazy, needing to "cuddle" with the girls, that rude mouth, etc. With Leslie gone now Todd is the only one in that tribe to know about the idol....things are looking good for him. I'm ready for some less brutal challenges. Some of those contestants were pretty banged up after the reward challenge!

CSI--good show and yes, Sharon they have gone back to some of those odd cases but with a little more humor.

Finally Friday--just watched FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!! It is so good and I thought they did a good job of skimming the summer and being at present time. Somehow Eric needs to come back home or I think his wife will be filing for a divorce. Looks like their daughter is going to be quite a little rebel this season. OMG--nothing like a dead body to bond two people!!! I'm just glad it's back and on Friday night!! It should do well between Deal or No Deal and Las Vegas.

I'll have to catch up on Vegas in a few days--I'm off to Las Vegas for 4 days of R & R.

I agree, Kid Nation's Taylor is a BRAT! For a child her age to have such a feeling of entitlement is sad. It must be coming from her parents. I'll bet that they have dreams and possibly plans for her to be an actress after this series. They've already got her going on the pageant circuit and now this show.

We may see another "Britney" in the news in a few more years.

I admit my heart tugged a little when I saw her tears, but I also realized she was only crying because she was "ganged up on" by the majority of the kids who were fed up with her "deal with it" attitude and she's obviously not used to being called on the carpet for her words and actions. There is a lot of doubt in my mind that she will follow through with her vow to start working "tomorrow".

I absolutely love Pushing Daisies! What a totally refreshing and entertaining show! BTW - Anna Friel who plays the female lead Charlotte Charles (Chuck) is also British. Her American accent is flawless and she and Lee Pace are just adorable together. Kristin Chenoweth is so incredibly talented I hope they find more ways for her to sing in the show.
