'Big Brother 9' Newsy Bits

jackie's tv blog, Big Brother, BB9

As I write this, the new hamsters should be in the house to gather fodder for Tuesday's season premiere.

The live feeds aren't on yet -- probably won't be until after Tuesday's show. But that doesn't mean there isn't any BB9 news out and about!

I scouted about the Internet and I'm here to give you the latest scuttlebutt on our own dirty little secret -- we're Big Brother fans!

  • Big Brother Updates has an interview with houseguest Alex Coladonato's (did I say Donato in there? Yikes!) best friend and co-applicant to get on the show. The friend didn't make it in and when they schemed of strategies, the soulmates bit was an unknown. It's still an interesting read and a bit of insight into Alex.
  • The rumor mill is going strong for the new cast. Apparently houseguests Jen and Ryan are already dating (or were before the show), and Jacob and Sharon were childhood sweethearts. Will they be paired with each other or will the show shake things up? The plot thickens.
  • The Sun Sentinel out of Florida has an article about the house itself which has some interesting quotes from Allison Grodner about this year. An excerpt: The 16 guests, including a public relations professional from Delray Beach named Adam, will be paired off as couples. They will compete as couples, strategize as couples and, at least in the beginning, be voted off as couples.

They also will sleep in the same bed, which they were not told until they entered the house. (Grodner would not specify precisely when this happened.) She allowed that this might not sit well with all of the guests. Her reaction: too bad for them, great for the show. "If everyone accepts this, it wouldn't be interesting."

Big Brother consulted with a match-making service to arrange the couples, although there is a possibility some incompatibles will be paired for the sake of theater.
  • In the article above, I think it addresses speculation on the length of the season. Supposedly we have a full nearly three month season, but if 8 couples are voted off weekly, that's obviously only eight weeks. The key phrase is "at least in the beginning." The whole article is worth the read, so check it out!
  • The Idol Thoughts site has the skinny on Jen and Ryan's MySpace friends links. Hometown sweethearts, eh? I predict BB isn't going to let that go on!
  • The Herald Tribune site has the goods on drifting crazy boy James Zinkland. It seems that James might have exaggerated his circumstances just a bit.
  • As I predicted in my introduction to the houseguests post, TMZ is delighted with their cast representative in the house -- paparazzo Parker! You can bet that we'll see a bit more TMZ coverage this season.
  • According to this blurb, Joshuah's name is Joshuah Welch, the better for scouting around for Internet gossip on him since last names aren't listed on the CBS releases or website.
  • Are you in Oregon? I actually had the chance to go to this via an invitation for my TV Squad work, but at my own expense going across country to Oregon just isn't in the cards.
  • The Big Brother 9 Gossip blog has found some rather sexy photos of houseguest (and religious bikini barista) Natalie Cunial online.
  • Evel Dick Donato will be co-hosting the online show House Calls twice a week. Love him or hate him, I bet he'll ask some good questions!
Today's musical non-sequitur:
I'll keep you my dirty little secret

Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret

Sounds like it's going to be a very interesting season.

Natalie's starting to sound a little schizo to me.

Orkmommy, saw your comment over at TV Squad in re 14 Things That Only Happen On TV. Funny article.

" Til death do you part, perhaps referring to each " couple ' I've met Parker before, he's a character. I originally heard there were two houseguest's from Dallas TX, although it appears one is Dallas GA, however many of the local news Back in Texas have continued to announce there's two individuals who are on BB, along with an individual who is on Survivor who resides in Austin TX, She's back in Austin and has kept mum, We had casting call for the next Survivor in Austin about 2 weeks ago, I heard there is a summer BB, of course its all speculation, perhaps one of the reasons couples could be evicted.. I felt current BB HG's were handed picked pretty much surrounding media mainstream outlets, unlike your Amber type personas, OIMO these HG's all have that pretty image package called " sells on TV " ( with the exception of only one HG ) however its what BB wanted for this quick Winter insert of BB.

Great update! I saw on Fox News that the writers have come to a tentative 3 year agreement. Good - maybe TV will return to normal soon.

I live in Dallas, I haven't heard any reports of any HG's being from the DFW area. And believe me we hear every other day about Jessica and Tony's romance.

Til Death do you part? I can see this lasting 8 weeks or 12, but with the news of the strike being over, I don't know if this season is salvagable?

OHHH the first eviction is WEDNESDAY night!!

It will take awhile, I'm sure, to get TV straightened out again, but there is, at long last, a light at the end of the tunnel. Myself and a couple of others are longing for CANE to come back to find out what happens next. Hope the writers got a good deal.

Thanks Jackie for the great bunch 'o tidbits you found! Good stuff.

I agree. The agreement reached between the writers and the studios will not resolve any issues with our programs in the short term, but programs should resume to normal soon. Soon might not be tomorrow, next week, or even next month, but they will be back. I miss a lot of my favorite shows.

Did anyone catch Extreme Makeover Home Edition tonight? Wow, what an awesome episode. It makes you proud to be an American and know the dedication that our troops have to our country, and to us by extension. God Bless them all.

Peace, ~M

Another update...

Silly Hampters has the new full cast picture up on the site. Full cast in the hot tub.

http://sillyhamsters.film.com/

James looks like a hoot to me. He'll turn out to be the Joe of BB9. I'm guessing, lol. :)

This is a timeline I have heard about NEW shows with the strike being over:

Comedy's etc 4 weeks

Drama's 6-8 weeks

The agreement has not been signed yet so hold your breath!

Joshuah age 25
Advertising media buyer is from Dallas TX
Jachob age 23 is from Dallas GA, I'm currently in Austin - Lake Travis Area, we have a segment on our local news which includes inside Austin who's who on reality TV, there are several VH1 TV shows in post production which were filmed/ produced in Westlake Austin area that's how I generally hear most of the reality news.

Haha I suspected writers would end their strike prior March, Kudos to Amy Whinehouse..

Just some tidbits from behind the scenes (for Jackie :)

The first couple evicted will have the shortest stay in the house in BB history. HoH competition was last Thursday and they :::cough::: hung in till around 1:30 AM.

Sheila was FURIOUS about the person they matched her with. What part of 'tall dark and handsome didn't they get?' Hint, her match IS tall.

Parker is a behind the walls fave to win or at least stick around for the long haul.

One male couple comprised of a gay and a bi.

This could possibly be the sleaziest BB in history.

Is big brother only on Tuesdays and Weds

It figures....the writer's strike ends just when Survivor, Amer. Idol and BB9 are starting!!!! My DVR and VCR is going to be working overtime!

Yes, joy n I want Cane to come back and I hope Friday Night Lights will have some new episodes. Both were left with too many loose ends.

Survivor is going to get hot and steamy very quickly--they must think they need to be a good "lead in" for BB9 on Thurs. LOL

Monty--I watched Ex. Home Makeover last night--you are right, it makes you proud to be an American and realize the sacrifice these young men(and women) are making for freedom.

plaidchick--good to see you back commenting. I love seeing some of the old BB regulars. Do you think Joe in NY will be around to stir things up?
I hope so....

I'm still watching Dance Wars, but only because nothing better is on. The singing part of this show has failed miserably!

Nobody on Survivor has jumped out at me as an early favorite yet. I LOVED that the favs. got beat last week. It seems that last season Amanda played for the money and now she's back for a man!
James/Pavarti???UGH!!!
Yes, to all the previous commenters--Jeff P. is looking quite cute!

I'm really glad Amer. Idol has moved to Hollywood. Now the show really begins for me. There are many people that need to be weeded out of that group of 164.

Jackie--THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all you do here. We love you articles and re-caps of our fav. shows. Get lots of rest--there's a TV storm headed your way!!!

Jackie, hope you had good news about your knee today.

Okay I am like the HUGEST BB fan ever. I've watched every season but I WILL NOT WATCH THIS SEASON....

A. Once again....NO COLORED PEOPLE what's up with that? (I know there's one) but CBS has big issues with that....

B. Way too early.... I am in school right now and I don't have time to watch. BB takes TIME and Dedication. I cannot check Jackie's Blog, watch the show, join in on all of the gossip and go to school at the same time

SIGH CBS Why CBS!!! WHY?

Our TV listing indicates BB will be shown on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday of this week, with Survivor on Thursday at 7 P.M. followed by CSI @ 8 P.M. ~ Without a Trace at 9 P.M. Joy thanks for the info, I'll keep a eye, in the event our programming is off, Nana, I agree in regards to recording, I generally view American Idol, however I prefer BB, along with any other VH1 reality shows, my family and I were discussing which TV programming we preferred, wow I realized Prison Break is the only non - Reality show we watch, besides several soaps ( I rarely watch soaps ) except to add my input on Spoilers/Scoops for CBS soaps ) Jackie, Thanks for all your hard work you provide for us all, Jackie ~ we donated to your blog, hope it helps, Jackie, your the best. You Rock.. Thanks,

Actually Tina, CBS shows in general, ( besides non - cable networks ) have various races more than any other network, I realize your referring to BB, however in CBS daytime, Y & R is condidered to have more blacks than any other soap combined.

joy n said...

Tom S., now my cable program guide is reading (EST) BB on Tues. at 9pm and Wed. and Sun. at 8pm. On the east coast Survivor is on Thurs. at 8pm as always.

I agree in daytime. There are lots of people of color when no one is at home to watch them, but in terms of comedy, reality and crime shows, it lacks especially compared to other stations such as fox or CW which have shows like ANTM, everybody hates chris, the black UPN shows, Bernie Mac etc... But now that I think about it, those are mostly black shows. All stations forget about the latinos and especially Asians. I mean Julie Chen is one out of what...1?

Realitytvworld.com has an interview with Jonny Fairplay. In it, he states that he left because of the baby coming and a horrendous toothache caused by Yau-man slamming his jaw into the boat while they fought over the idol. He says it was a new injury of his jaw that was originally broken by Danny Bonoduce.

He also talks about how great a reality player he is, how much he was liked in Micronesia, and about how he and Jeff Probst are now friends.

Also, he states that before he left, he took Ozzie aside for thirty minutes and told him how "to play the game". In other words, if Ozzie listened to him, Ozzie will win and Jonny takes the credit. If Ozzie doesn't listen to what Jonny "told" him, then Ozzie will, of course lose, I guess, for not listening to JF. (JERK-FACE)!

What planet does this egotistical neanderthall come from?

Anonymous said...

joy n--horrible news for us--cbs news just reported that Cane will not be coming back after the writer's strike!! :(
They could, at least, finish up the storylines.

Anonymous said...

Tina, do you watch Flavor of love? I know its Flav's 3rd VH1 reality show, however I find his show hilarious, I actually prefer New York, over that a shot at love with Tina Tequilla whatever her name was on MTV,
*******
I mean Julie Chen is one out of what...1?
2/11/2008 7:50 PM

Hmmmm Julie at times is on a whole different planet..I prefer CBS over ABC, ABC daytime writers tend to copy CBS..

Anonymous said...

lol tom... I've watched the first Flavor of Love and decided not to fall for Vh1's scam. They're not really looking for love. But New York is definitely better (lesser of two bads)....I prefer ABC over CBS in primetime...

I mean come on...

ABC---Ugly Betty...Desp Housewives...Lost

CBS---Big Brother...? Law and Order rip-offs

Nana in the NW: NO, NO. NO, NO!!!!! Say it isn't so. They have to bring CANE back. Maybe they'll wait until the fall season. I'll take ANY sliver of hope. Some networks are just going to finish up the popular shows seasons quickly after the strike. Maybe because its ratings were only so-so, they'll just wait longer to finish its season. I'm grasping at straws, I know. I've got to write to somebody! I want my CANE back!!!!!!

OMG----joy n----the comment made at 11:29 with my name IS NOT ME!!! I don't know why but someone felt compelled to write a comment and use my blogger name! I would NEVER make a rude reply(as this imposter did)to someone on this site. I'm not sure how to prevent this from happening again?!

Jackie S. said...

I removed that comment. I don't think something like that can proactively be stopped, but once I know about it ... POOF.

joy n said...

Nana in the NW: I didn't see the comment and am thinking I'm glad I didn't. If it was nasty or rude, I would have guessed that it couldn't have come from you. The regulars here don't write those kind of responses. Especially a fellow CANE lover. I'm assuming it had something to do with CANE since that's what my comment was all about.

Jackie, thank you for the monitoring of the occasional garbage that slimes through here. You're not only the best blogger around, you are also our protector. We all appreciate that.
